I am leaning towards saying you just kill the rest of them, because I think this combat is dull and has dragged on too long. I believe this will be the last such infuriating combat in this Adventure, and if not, I will look to fixing the ones that might prove equally frustrating.
The Raven |
I'm going to give it a few more hours before batting Aisling.
I never beheld such abuse.
Kintargo GM |
I was trying to pretend that hadn't happened. :P
Anyways, thoughts on the idea, Raven?
Vantine Roubanis |
Well, after 10 rounds those pulled teeth are permanently lost right? How many rounds in are we now?
Kintargo GM |
Halfway there. I'm not counting the round they were removed.
Kintargo GM |
If no one else has input within a few hours, I'm going to push us onwards.
Aisling Talbot |
Hwllo, sorry for wandeirng off. I'm back now and happy to rwrap up this fight which has served its point.
Let me know when I'm up again and I'lll start healing us.
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa |
Hmm...I somehow missed several posts in this discussion.
I actually enjoy fights like these. Jessibel feels she's got a lot to lose (her teeth and Charisma, and thus her beauty), and she's getting desperate.
In general, though, I'll go along with the majority who want to end such combats early when the outcome's no longer truly in doubt.
Kintargo GM |
Generally, I won't offer this, but as we've expressed frustration with the tiny flying DR creatures in the past, I am willing to do this at least this once.
The Raven |
I was trying to pretend that hadn't happened. :P

I think it's fine. Initially I was worried, but, annoying as they are, these obviously aren't a real threat to us outside of a surprise round + some lucky crits.
Kintargo GM |
It's mostly luck that's kept them alive thus far, and unlock on your part.

Oh, right. I nearly forgot.
Everyone is level 3 now.
You know the drill, add hp, new feats, skills, etc. in your posts here.
The Raven |
Everyone is level 3 now.
<3
Hmm. I'm tempted to take a level of fighter, just for the extra combat feat. I also need to take a level of something that grants trapfinding at some point - alchemist would be fitting - so the Raven can disable magical traps. I'd also like a level of Savage Technologist Barbarian at some point... But I don't want to delay progression on Vigilante stuff... decisions, decisions.

Yep, we're doing 1/2 HD+1, Vantine. Also, Greater Omens' augury is handy, no?
That said, I think it should only be 2/day, because the number of times you can use it is based on the mirror's Int score/bonus, which at level 3 is 13 (+1) - so, an additional 1/day.
Vantine Roubanis |
Oh right, I used Vantine's intelligence. At the very least it will help because I always hoard uses. The "if I use it now I won't have it when I need it more later" mindset, which means I never use it.
I've never used Augury or seen it used, but I can see it at least settling a few arguments about what to do next along the way. :)
Nyxra Ilphukiir |
Before I level up, one of my newest class features is Slashing Fury--it essentially gives my character Weapon Finesse with a single light or one-handed slashing weapon. I intend to apply it to my longsword. Would I be able to use my longsword two-handed and still gain the benefits of this feature?
The Raven |
I belive one of the main draws of the archetype is that you can finesse a decently 2-handable weapon like a longsword or scimitar.
Kintargo GM |
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, Nyxra. The way the text is worded doesn't indicate that you can't, unlike some swashbuckler features.
Nyxra Ilphukiir |
Alrighty!

I may be unable to post today. A few RL things have come up.
Kintargo GM |
The thought did occur to me.
Vantine Roubanis |
It occurred to me as well but I didn't figure Nocticula would be well-known enough in Kintargo even if the timeline worked, which I wasn't sure about either.
Kintargo GM |
She's not at the moment. There's maybe a dozen-odd followers exclusively in the Nursery, one priestess. She doesn't proselytize very much, either - most recruits are tieflings whose friends made mention of her.
Vantine Roubanis |
And Vantine certainly does NOT hang out in the Devil's Nursery with tieflings. She's way too glam for that sort of thing.
Kintargo GM |
If no one else has questions or thoughts for the nice old lady, I'll move us on within a few hours.
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa |
Yeah. I argued for and against it in my mind without ever coming to a decision. Jessibel still has resources left (being paralyzed for half the fight will do that) in case we ran into a CCG or dottari patrol, but her singing to inspire courage might bring down additional patrols on us.
One of my thoughts against staying: It'll give away The Magpie's secret identity.
Or she could sleep with her mask on, I suppose.
Kintargo GM |
Hmm, a good point. And the Raven might have similar concerns. I could tell you that she'll respect your privacy, but there's not a whole lot to be had - her sleeping area's where all the beds are, not just hers.
Kintargo GM |
If we're talking about Aisling, I did reach out to her a few days ago, but she hasn't gotten back to me since. During our last exchange (from 10 days ago, when I think she last posted here) she mentioned she was having a bit of a time IRL, so I suspect she might be fighting with the RL demons devils at the moment.
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa |
Thanks for the update, Wandering Wastrel. Please tell her that we all wish her the best, and are rooting for a quick and complete recovery.
If you want to torture her a bit, you can tell her that Jessibel promises to do her best to fill Aisling's role as the party's moral compass while she's out of action.
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa |
Game-Related Stuff for the Other Players: We might want to hold back on challenging the Red Jills 'til Aisling returns. Taking on a whole gang of thieves with only secondary healers sounds like a recipe for potential disaster.
Maybe the heavy rains have washed away enough of the snow cover that we can now investigate the sites of the Night of Ashes attacks?
Kintargo GM |
Hi all, just to let you know that Sarah (Aisling) has been in hospital: it's not Covid, she had an accident (I've got her permission to tell you this, btw). She's OK but I don't know when she'll post again - she's struggling with pain management and other dull RL things.
Oof, thanks for letting us know. Hope for her swift recovery.

I hope you have a fast and complete recovery Aisling!
I think we could slow walk things for a little while here to give Aisling some time couldn't we?

Oh, right, Raven, can you get your level 3 stats updated soon? I remember you were debating whether to grab a different class or not?
The Raven |
Feel better soon, Sarah <3
Level Up Summary
Vigilante
+7 HP
+1 BaB
+1 Fort Saves
Lvl 3 Feat: Shielded Gauntlet Style
Level 3 Social Talent: Safe House
Skills!
+1 Bluff, Diplo, Disable Device, Disguise, Stealth
Background Skills
+1 Linguistics (Strix), Sleight of Hand
Stuck with Vigilante, there's a talent at level 4 I want before I start multiclassing. Learned Strix, since it's come up a couple times. And now The Raven needs to find a Safe House...
Kintargo GM |
Strix is a good choice, yes. Where do you want the Safe House, given that you don't have an area of renown? You could make it a part of the Wasp's Nest, but that might be putting too many eggs in one basket - it's up to you.
(Personally, I don't think it would be putting too many eggs in one basket, but it's really up to you.)
Also, I'm not quite sure how to read Shielded Gauntlet Style, 'cause it seems like it only applies during rounds that you don't use your gauntlets to attack - which is fine, but I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for?
You know what you're looking for more than I do, so do you have any ideas how to read that?
The Raven |
You only lose the bonus if you attack with your off-hand. The Raven weareth two gauntlets, so he can attack with one and defend with the other.
There's a few options for the safe house. Could just be where he lives. Currently it is a small cottage because that's all the cost of living that could be afforded at level 1, but since we have more gold it could be upgraded. That would give the Ravens a base on that side of town. Or could do a business as a front for a secret base. So many options.
