Igor Ivantoe |
Igor quickly renews his Mage Armor spell on himself and Tiny Pebble from a pair of scrolls in a case at his waist.
@GM Fuzzfoot - If it has been actually been five hours since our encounter at the church then it is time for this. :)
GM Fuzzfoot |
The doors to both stairwells hang open, and chained to each landing at the top of the stairs within is a single lunatic. As with those in area D1, they begin shrieking as soon as they see you approach.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor scans the room for anything of interest.
(Perception of 31 with a Take 10)
"The interesting stuff must be underground but we should keep looking anyways."
Tiny Pebble |
Tiny Pebble is at his master's side.
(Tremor Sense 60')
Pai Shecks |
"Ugh. I hate places like this. No matter what we do, there's still a section where people can sneak up on you. <sigh> Well, I'll follow where y'all lead. Good thing we have Pebble. You'll let us know if anyone's coming up behind us, right Pebble?"
This sorta-OCD player wants to clear this level first, but Pai recognizes they kinda have to hurry. Downstairs works for me.
Nectanebo the Vulture |
As a player I have no problem with waiting ten minutes however it really does not make any sense in game with the sense of unease most of our characters are experiencing with the lunatics wailing away. It is not the time for an occult ritual. :)
"Nectanebo take the sword from Pai's haversack. It might come in handy. We need to ... get out of here. Is everyone ready to move?"
Nectanebo seems to have already appropriated the sword somewhere along the way. He gives the screaming meemies on the ground one last look before moving on with a hunch of his coat-laden shoulders (again showcasing but one of the reasons for his "title"), his coat either tightening or being tightened around himself once more as he does so.
false life: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
grimdog73's pregen character |
Yeah...let's get this over with...this place is making me cranky...not a good thing... Lini says her brow furrowing.
But I'm shutting these guys up...gonna drive me nutty...and wind up in here... she says as she gags the inmates.
[b]downstairs works for me too[/ooc]
Borax Bulan |
Borax also consumes one of his false life extracts.
False LIfe: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Tiny Pebble |
Tiny Pebble gives Pai a thumbs up and a wink after a quick conversation with Igor in Terran.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor nods as the other prepare for the action ahead.
"Not to worry Pai. We have our eyes open here and our feelers to the ground so to speak. The action is all downstairs but I feel that there is something important that we need to find here. Call it a hunch."
"We should move on and clear the ground floor as soon as we can."
GM Fuzzfoot |
D6. Storage: This room, as well as two of its three closets, are used to store all manner of mundane equipment used in the asylum (primarily leather, buckles, chains, ropes, and tools). The westernmost closet is a toilet. This room serves as a hideout for 2 lunatics who have recently murdered a third and are playing (imaginary) cards over his body and using
pieces of him as gambling chits.
They look up at Raynard as he opens the door, scream, and attack. The first graps a mop, and the second has decided to fight with a bottle of something, perhaps a disinfectant.
Borax: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Igor & Pebble: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Lini & Droogami: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Nectanebo: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Pai: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Raynard: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Others: 1d20 ⇒ 2
@Nectanebo - how long does your buddy last? I am sure you could have dug up another on the way, but you should not that if it was not for the constant rain and gloom, someone likely would have noticed and been rather upset at grave desecration.
Pai Shecks |
Who's up next in combat?
Igor Ivantoe |
I think that we are all up before the crazies if you look at the initiative scores. Normally I would consider non-lethal methods but considering what they did to the other inmate you can cut loose if you like. You are doing them a favour. Really. :)
Generally I like to blow my Heightened Awareness for Initiative in combat but against mops and spray bottles I think I will keep it and stick with my current Initiative score. They are unworthy of the use of a 1st level spell. :)
@GM Fuzzfoot - I am not seeing them on the map.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Sorry - I think I was mid-setup when work took over my attention. The map is updated with the live inmates. I suppose Nectanebo might want to use the dead one...
Round 1: (bold may take actions)
Igor & Pebble
Raynard
Nectanebo
Lini & Droogami (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, poisoned)
Pai
Borax
Red Lunatic
Blue Lunatic
Pai Shecks |
@GM Fuzzfoot: How high are the ceilings?
Pai flies into the room and up to the ceiling, balling up to protect her stomach from swinging or jabbing mop handles. With a grimace that indicates her disgust with this entire situation, she sends a blast of lightening toward the one with the mop.
Electric blast vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 3 = 123d6 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) + 2 + 5 = 14
Includes Point Blank Shot and Elemental Overflow
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor hustles past Raynard. He fires off a bolt of pure force at a Lunatic (Red).
Force Missile,Intense Spell: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tiny Pebble |
Tiny Pebble runs into the room and attempts to slam the closest crazy (Blue) back down to the ground.
Attack,Earth Mastery,Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 8
Damage,Earth Master,Power Attack: 1d6 + 4 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 + 3 = 11
Raynard Milton |
Raynard enters the room and attacks the red one.
+1 Scimitar cold iron: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
GM Fuzzfoot |
Ceilings are about 10' high.
@Pai - do you have access to the map? You don't even have line of sight on either of the foes.
Igor moves in, but misses his target. Igor slams red with a blast of energy, and then Raynard easily cuts him down. Red falls with a grunt.
Round 1: (bold may take actions)
Igor & Pebble
Raynard
Nectanebo
Lini & Droogami (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, poisoned)
Pai
Borax
Blue Lunatic
Borax Bulan |
Borax moves closer to the doorway, but there is little he can do and he goes into a defensive stance.
Pai Shecks |
Ceilings are about 10' high.
@Pai - do you have access to the map? You don't even have line of sight on either of the foes.
My mistake. I forgot to move my token when I indicated that Pai flew into the room. That's fixed now.
GM Fuzzfoot |
In that case, Pai's electroshock is more than the remaining inmate can handle, and as his eyes roll into the back of his head, he drops like a bag of wet goo.
There is nothing of real value in here.
Pai Shecks |
Pai's all conflicted for a moment. Sure, that was a grisly murder that just happened in there, but...that statement could apply to what she just did, too. To be better than them, I have to have better reasons. Is that enough? Quietly, she flies out of the room and asks: "Where to next? Surely we don't have to kill everyone here, but they're all bound to be confused and angry and unreasonable. They weren't already executed for reasons."
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor shakes his head in resignation at Pai's comments.
"Leaving people in that state in worse than death. I am not saying that we should be aiming at eliminating these crazy people but we have the right to defend ourselves at the very least."
"We need to be here to help save the city. We have little choice in the matter."
grimdog73's pregen character |
We should just bind them so they can't hurt themselves or others. then when we're done here, we can send in the city officials and they can deal with the poor souls. I'm not having any blood spilled because of someone's madness unless necessary.
Igor Ivantoe |
@Grimdog - If they are not dead then Lini should be able to stabilise them with a take 10 of her Heal skill.
Igor nods.
"By all means try to bind their wounds if you can. I am no healer."
GM Fuzzfoot |
If anyone wants to make a Heal check, you might get a little more insight.
Igor checks the inmates, and one is dead but the other may yet survive. Applying bandages and ropes, he is now secure.
Igor Ivantoe |
"Lini, what exactly is wrong with these people? Do you know?"
It makes more sense for people actually trained in the skill to try first. :)
@Grimdog - It is a DC 15 Heal check to stabilise.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Lini notices that while she doesn't have the time or skill to truly understand these lunatics' psychoses, there seems to be more at work here than is typically natural. Perhaps some may have been docile before they were committed, but she guesses that the treatments they endured have resulted in violent temperaments and a universal disregard for safety.
Pai Shecks |
Her brow darkening, Pai growls: "So Keeper Crove is abusing people until they turn into monsters? Now I don't feel so bad about what we have to do to him. Let's get moving, before the slug shows up."
Sounds kinda like Scarecrow.
grimdog73's pregen character |
Lini's face turns a bit dark after examining the inmates.
Someone needs to have a reckoning and pay for his misdeeds. Droogi, we have a real bad man to go see...you ready, pal? she says to her companion. Droogi growls in acknowledgement.
Let's go.. she implores the others as she heads to the west.let's clear one side and work our way around...
Pai Shecks |
Pai flies sort of above Lini's head, making sure to keep her feet curled up behind her. She keeps her eyes and ears peeled for the sign of anyone in the hallways as they go, then listens at the door before them while the talk folks catch up.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor and Tiny Pebble move right behind Raynard.
"We are right behind you in case they are armed with more than a spray bottle."
This module is just so creepy. :)
GM Fuzzfoot |
D7. Library: This room contains a wealth of books covering madness, its causes and treatments, and many other grisly topics like anatomy, necrology, and studies of deformity and disease. Many of the books here hint at the Old Gods and their cults, but none are specifically related to the troubles currently plaguing Carrion Hill.
A single lunatic hides under the northern table, ogling a well-illustrated book that catalogs methods of torture. He giggles with glee!
D11. Lecture Room: Five lunatics are here; one stands at the podium to the east end, whispering nonsense and gibberish to the other four who sit in rapt attention in the audience. All five lunatics shriek and rise to attack, producing homemade knives made from broken chair legs and sharpened bones when they do so.
Borax: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15
Igor & Pebble: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

@GM Fuzzfoot- Are these people behind a wall? This is how it appears on the map but I would like to confirm it with you.
grimdog73's pregen character |
looks like they're up a flight up stairs...could be wrong
We'll come back to this guy, Droogi...the others need us I think...come on! Lini says as eh heads in to deal with the room of inmates.
Watch that room though...there was one guy there...didn't want to leave you guys shorthanded.
double move for lini...Droogi will prepare a bite attack if one gets close enough.

Two sets of stairs lead up the sides of a stage. They are up on the stage.
Nectanebo the Vulture |
Sorry for going AWOL; seems all is well, though....
@Nectanebo - how long does your buddy last?
Up to 10 minutes/level, no more.
Slight flashback:
Her brow darkening, Pai growls: "So Keeper Crove is abusing people until they turn into monsters? Now I don't feel so bad about what we have to do to him. Let's get moving, before the slug shows up."
Sounds kinda like Scarecrow.
Nectanebo nods gravely once he catches up. "Well that's not very nice, is it? Not very sporting, either..." His gaze wanders over to the dismembered corpse the other two had been gambling over (and with parts of?), and the frayed ends of his long coat begin swaying in some otherworldly wind. "YOU THERE. We're off to get revenge. Want in...?"
Just like that, the dismembered corpse reassembles itself (however imperfectly), ravaged flesh sloughing off fresh, bloody white bone, and rises to the Vulture's side!
1 Focus spent, another Servant raised.
/flashback - assuming we started out from the "D7" area:
Nectanebo and his latest 'find' make their way to the library, prepared for battle but keeping a cautious distance to start with.
Just double-moves this round.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor thinks of sitting this one out but decides to go in shrugging his shoulders as he enters the room behind the others.
"Very well." He half mumbles to himself. It is clear that he is not pleased to be using his limited magical resources on these madmen as opposed to more worthy opponents.
He launches a force missile at a random madman (Yellow).
Force Missile,Intense Spell: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Many wizards overvalue the importance of their arcane resources. Igor is no exception to that rule. Personally I think that this is the perfect time for him to be using his force missile ability. :)
Tiny Pebble |
The elemental stays close to his master and is ready to pummel any of the crazed lunatics if they get into range.
Readied attack,PA,Earth Mastery: 1d20 + 6 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 1 + 1 = 11
Readied slam,PA,Earth Mastery: 1d6 + 4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 3 + 1 = 14
GM Fuzzfoot |
Igor drops one where he stands, not killing him, but the lunatic lies on the floor crying.
Pink and green both grab chair legs and move to attack. Droogi tries to react, but the haphazard movements of the man keep the cat confused.
Attack vs zombie: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Attack vs Droogi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Nectanebo's servitor takes a couple careful swipes at the nearest looney...

Guidingstar vs Purple People-Who-Eat-People-Eater, or if he's been taken out, 5 feet further and vs Red Menace: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Pai Shecks |
Leaving the maniacal man in the library, Pai flies down the hall to help her teammates. She enters at the top of the door, sees that there's an attacker *right there*--"Eeep! Yikes!"--and slowly backs away diagonally toward the ceiling, hoping to avoid getting hit. She stops in a good place to send an electric blast right in his (pink dude's) face.
Acrobatics to leave enemy square: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Electric blast vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 3 = 113d6 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (6, 2, 6) + 2 + 5 = 21
