GM Fuzzfoot |
The room is a bedroom, with a cot and a reading lamp.
Nectanboe - where did you get a body?
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor motions at Pai to try another door.
Pai Shecks |
After checking the open bedroom for anything that might help them find the erstwhile occupant...
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
...Pai tries the door across the hall, if no one else has yet.
Nectanebo the Vulture |
Nectanboe - where did you get a body?
Like I said, 'the garden' - what old churchyard doesn't have one out front?
Nectanebo sends his half-moldering, half-petrified companion up to do likewise.
grimdog73's pregen character |
Yeah...that's not creepy...not at all... Lini as her nose wrinkles in disgust. Could you at least get a...servant that isn't as ripe as this one? I've smelled some horrible things in my few years as an agent...but yikes!
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor gestures focusing his minor magics on the walking corpse. He attempts to clean it up as much as is possible.
(Prestidigitation is still up from before and now seems like a good time to make use of it)
"I guess formal balls and parties are out with this one."
Pai Shecks |
As soon as she notices the walking corpse, Pai turns pale and flies up into the corner of the ceiling, barely managing to stop herself from blasting the walking dead with electricity. The skeleton from yesterday was one thing; she can handle skeletons. They're creepy, but they don't do anything weird to you (in her experience). This thing, though, with all the flesh on it--it looks too much like some of the undead that can really mess you up in ways only a cleric can fix. And she's had really bad experiences with some of those ones. Pai hovers in the upper corner, curled into a fetal position, trembling and hyperventilating, pale green eyes bulging in fear, with her hand outstretched toward the animated corpse.
"W-w-what t-the f-f-fudge is-- Why--?! You're all okay with this?!" Tiny white sparks arc off her palm, a sign that she isn't convinced that this undead creature is an ally that doesn't deserve to be immediately annihilated.
Nectanebo the Vulture |
Whoah, hold on - this is a skeleton, just like yesterday's. I just decided it's just so old that it's partially fossilized, and might have some fungus growing out of it, too. Did nobody else get that, somehow?
GM Fuzzfoot |
The was a church very long ago. I am not too sure you could salvage a skeleton... but I am not going to press the point.
This storage room contains food, water, lamp oil, ink, paper, and other supplies.
The room beyond is abandoned, as the roof above leaks terribly. The recent storm has left the western 5 feet of the room in a 4-inch-deep pool of water that drains through a crack in the southwest to the alley beyond.
The last door is locked, and pretty well.
Nectanebo the Vulture |
We should ascertain whether Borax is still with us.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
GM Fuzzfoot |
Borax: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Neither Nectanebo nor Borax seems able to open this lock quickly. DC 30 - so one of you can take 20. And we should probably remove Borax from the ranks - I was holding out because of the login troubles last week, but still no word from him.
The room beyond is empty, save for a wooden trap door set in the floor, obviously a relatively recent addition to the building’s older architecture. Beyond the trap door, a wooden ladder descends 20 feet into darkness.
Pai Shecks |
Whoah, hold on - this is a skeleton, just like yesterday's. I just decided it's just so old that it's partially fossilized, and might have some fungus growing out of it, too. Did nobody else get that, somehow?
Ah. When you said "half moldering" earlier it sounded like there was moldy flesh on it.
Feeling extraordinarily foolish for her overreaction (despite the fact that Nectanebo's taste in "friends" is totally creepy and probably evil!), Pai blushes furiously as she tags along behind everyone. She flies up by the ceiling so they are less likely to give her pitying glances.
Once they have the trap door open, she shakes her head as if to clear it and announces with a determined enthusiasm that only seems a little bit forced: "I'll go down first. Back me up with some light. These won't last long." She casts Dancing Lights and sends the lantern-like lights down the hole, then flies down after them. At the bottom, the lights fan out as much as they are able, and she takes stock of her surroundings.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor glances at the ladder and wonders if it is stable. He creates magical light on his dagger which is half-sheathed.
(Perception 31 and K-Engineering 20 to determine if the ladder looks solid enough to support their weight.)
"Perhaps throwing down a rope would be wise."
Repelling down a wall with a rope is incredibly easy (DC 5) with a Take 10. You can never trust an old wooden ladder. :)
GM Fuzzfoot |
Pai:
This large, low-ceilinged chamber may once have been part of an extensive basement or subcellar, but the worked stone walls have long since crumbled to reveal uneven stone beyond. A sunken area in the center of the room contains a small pond of stagnant water that reaches around a single pillar of rock supporting the ceiling. A slick-looking circular tunnel extends south. To the southwest and northeast, several tables cluttered with what appears to be alchemical equipment stand around two more stone pillars. A man seems to be frantically mixing reagents together, and doesn't notice you flying in silently.
Pai Shecks |
Pai silently flies back up with her lights and whispers what she saw to the group. "I only saw the one man. Can you guys get down there quietly? Oh! I can fly over there with my rope all ready and just drop it over his head, like a lasso, once we're ready! He'd be tied up in a jiffy!"
Borax Bulan |
Borax suddenly stirs and blinks several times, "Apologies, I seemed to have let myself get distracted elsewhere. How can I be of service?"
GM Fuzzfoot |
If you are all trying to sneak up on him, show me your path, and make stealth roles. Using the rope as Igor suggests should work fine, although not strictly necessary. Also, Pebble can meld into the earth once down a few feet.
Pai Shecks |
@Lini: We could lower Droogi on a rope. It would be more convenient if someone else has another rope.
@GM Fuzzfoot: I've put Pai's assumed route on the map. I am assuming that he's facing the wall to the east. If he's facing another direction, she'll adjust her trajectory to approach from his rear, if possible.
Once everyone is ready, Pai flies silently forward with her lasso in her hands. She holds her breath as she gets close, and tries to drop the lasso over the man's head and pull it tight in one smooth move.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Lasso the alchemist: 1d20 ⇒ 5
This roll doesn't include a modifier because I'm not sure which one to use. (Edit: Not that it'll matter with that roll.)
GM Fuzzfoot |
@Lini - Lowering the cat via ropes is possible, but it is unlikely to be very stealthy. Jumping down is probably ok, but again he is probably going to make a thud. Still, I suspect that will be quieter than some of the more armored folks trying to climb down.
@Pai - are you waiting for all to get down first? If so, let's wait for the stealth rolls to come in.
grimdog73's pregen character |
i'll have Droogi jump down...his stealth and acrobatics rolls are fairly good...i have faith...so with Pai flying down and Droogi jumping, that should be a good start if hostilities start...then we come in like the cavalry...
Lini gets out a wand and taps Droogi with it.magic fang on his claws...if on;y one claw is affected, will go on his bite...
Protect her, okay pal? I'll be right behind you...
assuming Pai is flying down, of course...will have Droogi jump down after she heads down...
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
acrobatics: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
Igor Ivantoe |
Pai's plan seems inventive but a little impractical considering the party composition.
"Catching the Alchemist by surprise is going to be tricky with this group. Also what exactly are you going to do once you lasso him? Are you strong enough to fly him back up here."
The Wizard shrugs and grins as he expects no less from the party Gnome. Who else would come up with a crazy and fun plan that is likely not going to work out as planned.
Pai Shecks |
"Uh... No. I'm not. Aaaand he'll probably start shouting, which'll alert the other guy. Oh! And we don't even know if he's one of our marks! Gosh dang it! Well, let's all at least try to get down quietly and head over to him together so we can talk as a group in case he tries to run or something." Pai is initially bummed that her totally awesome idea won't work, but quickly pivots to offer another solution, albeit another half-baked one.
GM Fuzzfoot |
The rest of you barely hear anything as Raynard, Lini and Droogi work their way down. The man continues to be unaware of your presence.
Pai Shecks |
Pai flies after them and hovers near the ceiling above her pals.
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor and Tiny Pebble make their way down the stairs.
(They will remain at the base of the stairs for now. I will roll stealth for both if you feel it is relevant.)
GM Fuzzfoot |
OK, I am going to go with what's been posted, which leaves Borax and Nectanebo still up top for now.
The rest of you get in close to see the man frantically working on creating some sort of toxin, it seems.
You surprise him, so you can take an action or introduce yourself. If you decide on aggressive actions, each of you near the man gets 1 standard or move action - not a full round.
Pai Shecks |
Pai mulls over the situation as she sneaks up on the man, starting at ceiling height, but dropping down later so that her eyes are at the same elevation as his. We don't know who he is. He looks up to no good, but he may be someone else. So talk first, shoot later.
She puts on her most innocent, adorable face and begins: "Um. Hi! Sorry! Didn't mean to startle you. Can we ask you some questions? My name's Pai, by the way."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
The smile she finishes with could melt a glacier.
GM Fuzzfoot |
The man spins around, vials in hand, and looks shocked and fearful. He doesn't answer you, however, because there is something fused to his face covering his mouth.
He backs up moves into a combat stance.
Borax: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Igor & Pebble: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Lini & Droogami: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Nectanebo: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Pai: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Raynard: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Man: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Round 1: (bold may take actions)
Pai
Igor & Pebble
Man with Mouthguard
Raynard
Lini & Droogami
Nectanebo
Borax
Pai Shecks |
"Oh no! You can't talk! Would you like to write? I'm fresh out of parchment and charcoal, but I have some artist's tools here that you could use to write on the walls or something. Do you want them?" As she gestures to her pack, Pai continues to try to chat up the man like it's perfectly normal for a motley group of people (with a snow leopard) to sneak up on a man in a dank basement of a home that is not theirs.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Tiny Pebble |
Tiny Pebble can sense that something is wrong and moves towards the sound of Pai's voice. He glides right through the floor and is now travelling below the surface of the ground.
(Double Move - He is Earth Gliding 5' below the surface of the floor)
Igor Ivantoe |
Igor moves up taking cover behind the rock wall. He attempts to blind the man.
(Glitterdust Will DC 20 or be blinded)
Possible cover bonus is not included in his stats above
GM Fuzzfoot |
Pai, you can see diplomacy is not going to work here. He's going to throw something at you...
Pai Shecks |
I know that, but Pai's an eternal optimist.
GM Fuzzfoot |
OK, just wanted to make sure you had the chance to act!
The man tosses a vial at Lini, in the middle of you all.
Thrown Weapon, ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Str Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Con Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2
I need DC 13 Fort saves from Lini, Pai, Droogmi, and Raynard to avoid that poison damage.
He then draws a rapier and prepares to fight all of you.
Round 1: (bold may take actions)
Raynard (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, pending Save)
Lini (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, pending Save)
Droogami (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, pending Save)
Nectanebo
Borax
Round 2: (bold may take actions)
Pai (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, pending Save)
Igor & Pebble
Man with Mouthguard
grimdog73's pregen character |
Not nice! Lini says trying to shake off the effects of the bomb.
fort: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 1 = 20+1 from the animal friend ability...+1 when in 30' of an animal...
Droogi fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Get him, Droogi! Bite his face off! Lini yells as Lini pounces on the man, tearing at him with claws and his teeth.
bite: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 1 = 281d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
claw1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 221d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
claw2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 151d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
the bite includes a trip...is there a CMB roll? already factored in Droogi's Str penalty on the damage...the +1 on the bite is from Magic fang...
Lini hangs back, ready to heal Droogi or anyone that needs it.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Yes, the ability lets you roll a free CMB/Trip if you successfully hit with the bite attack, which you did. Remember to deduct for the Str damage.
Round 1: (bold may take actions)
Raynard (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, pending Save)
Lini
Droogami (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, poisoned)
Nectanebo
Borax
Round 2: (bold may take actions)
Pai (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, pending Save)
Igor & Pebble
Man with Mouthguard (7 dmg, pending trip attempt)
Igor Ivantoe |
@GM Fuzzfoot - Did the Alchemist save vs the Glitterdust cast last turn from my character? This would have occurred before his last action if you scroll up the thread.
Raynard Milton |
FORT: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Raynard moves closer and attacks.
+1 Scimitar cold iron: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Pai Shecks |
Fort save DC 13: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Really?! And we were trying to be nice to him! Arrgh! Pai flies up to the ceiling and tries to scare him into playing nice. She lets her Enveloping Winds appearance intensify for a moment: arcs of electricity snap and crack around her as she shouts in the deepest voice she can muster: "Stand down! NOW!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
GM Fuzzfoot |
Sorry Igor - I totally forgot about the glitterdust!
Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Due to blindness, he likely would have targeted a space instead of Lini directly, which would be a hit in any case. However, since there is a concealment miss chance, it could have landed in a different square...
50% miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 42
Direction: 1d8 ⇒ 2
That would have put the vial in Pai's square, removing Raynard from the splash zone.
More importantly, the third attack and trip attempt from the cat now both succeed, so the man is prone and bleeding a little more profusely.
Round 1: (bold may take actions)
Raynard
Lini
Droogami (2 Str & 2 Con dmg, poisoned)
Nectanebo
Borax
Round 2: (bold may take actions)
Pai
Igor & Pebble
Man with Mouthguard (22 dmg, blind, prone, shaken)
