Game Master S |
The computer isn't locked at all. It's a simple matter to download what's here. It amounts to a lot of personal information, but there does seem to be some evidence. It'll take time to digest. Meanwhile, Datch simply sighs.
Since someone mentioned traps, just a request, make sure the map is updated if you're checking for any.
Patrick Messier |
Another to the South Patrick says as he downloads the lot into a datapad. Unfortunately this machine doesn't have access to the main system. So, logically, we should make our way out of here as quickly as possible
He then shoots Datch a glare while muttering It's females like you that ... He then stops remembering there is another in the room.
Trusty Trashbot |
"Watch it, bud." Trusty says to Patrick. "Datch isn't bad because she's female. She's bad because she's not wired right. This whole gender thing you organics get into just isn't worth it." As Trusty approaches the northern door, he glances at the rat statue in the corner.
A worn brass statue of a rat perched on its hind legs adorns the northwestern corner. Offerings of fruit, crackers, and cakes are heaped at the base of the statue, and its outstretched paw seems to beckon for more.
"Before we go... Desha, do you want to look at this? When I went to visit Silent Shrike, there were shrines to some kind of rat god all over the place, and ignoring them was a bad idea."
Patrick Messier |
If that's the case Patrick says to Trusty Then either I've met a lot that aren't wired right .. or more likely ... I'm not wired right. Bad experiences.
mysticism: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
He then looks on the statue. Lao Sha Po? Or something like that.
Desha Doash |
Desha rolls her eyes at Patrick’s misplaced distrust of females. She ignores it for the moment, though, there being more pressing matters at hand. Following Trusty’s suggestion, she investigates the statue.
Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21

Reaper maintains a watch of Datch. He suspects that she has more tricks to pull.

"Good eyes everyone. I never would have spotted those doors. Let's see if there aren't any additional surprises on these doors..."
While others are examining the statue, Arratoi will check out the secret doors for traps.
Perception, north: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Perception, south: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
"Wait, where are those doors again?"
Game Master S |
With eyes on Datch, the party looks around the room, trying to discern the best (or any) way out of here.
It is indeed Lao Shu Po. The party checks out the statue. A worn brass statue of a
rat perched on its hind legs adorns the northwestern corner.
Offerings of fruit, crackers, and cakes are heaped at the base of
the statue, and its outstretched paw seems to beckon for more..
No one spies any releases to any of the three doors. Datch gives a quiet chuckle.
Desha Doash |
"Datch, be reasonable and point us in the right direction for how to open these doors, would you? Certainly you don't really want to destroy yourself after all the work you've put in."
Diplomacy w/Empathy bonus: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 16 + 2 = 19
Trusty Trashbot |
"That outstretched paw." Trusty glances at the offerings and the outstretched paw, and thinks for a moment of all the treats Charli serves with Poshkettle tea. "Any of you organics got some rations? No, wait. Maybe I have something." Trusty opens up a door in his can, and pulls a teapot out of a sterile chamber, along with some Poshkettle tea. "Think Lao Shu Po will accept a tea bag?"
Trusty hands it to one of the mystical types.
Dr. Mech Coy |
"Tea does seem to be a tradition when commencing various meetings. Sorry, I don't carry food with me."
Desha Doash |
Desha takes the tea bag and offers it to the statue with a customary prayer of offering she remembers from an old case she was on, following a cult of the deity in the slums of Akiton.
Patrick Messier |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Patrick reaches into a pocket, pulls out a slab of dark chocolate, breaks off two squares, and places one on the outstretched paw of the statue while sucking on the other.
There is now a chocolate square balanced on top of the tea bag.
Dr. Mech Coy |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Dr. Mech Coy watches Patrick with interest, then seems lost in thought for a few seconds.
I really should carry some sort of treats with me. I bet it would help when dealing with organic patients, especially the young. Going to be tough to find something with nutritional value that is safe for a broad selection of biologicals and considered tasty by them. I wonder who I can ask for advice on this?
Game Master S |
Skipping the food around the statue, Trashbot places a bag of Harsk Brand tea on the palm.
Datch chuckles, "See, don't worry Desha, Trusty Trashbot has become skilled through my efforts."
A tiny console appears, it appears it's a door lock. There's no log in, it's all mechanical. With a push of the button you all hear a trio of locks and forcefields disengaging. The doors are open.
Trusty Trashbot |
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
"Time to draw weapons, folks." Trusty draws his and then walks through the Northern door, checking for traps.
Game Master S |
Trusty marches north to find a corridor with a few door options. The red force field is down.
Dr. Mech Coy |
Dr. Mech Coy hesitates for a moment, then draws his static arc pistol before following the others down the hall.
Patrick Messier |
If it was not for your efforts Ms Datch .. we would not be in this predicament. I fail to understand your logic here. Patrick replies impassively, keeping his emotions well suppressed.
Think Spock or Sarek, or Avon from Blake's Seven
Reaper Sigma |
Reaper motions for Datch to go ahead of him. "They insist on taking you alive. Do not give me reason to override their choice." He keeps a pistol pointed at her head as he follows.
Arratoi |
Arratoi follows along with hand cannon drawn.
Shrugging his shoulders, he says to Datch, "Eh, dead or alive, I get inspiration either way for my next novel. I have no particular interest in trying to keep you alive nor the hostility to put you down on the spot. So I'd say you're lucky right now that my colleagues are willing to give you a reprieve from death. But know that the moment that changes, I'm not on your side..."
Game Master S |
Ready to go. To maintain progress, I suggest you (quickly) pick a door routine. There's one suggested in the Discussion thread. I ask only that the map be accurate when a door is breached.
Game Master S |
Finding nothing with the door, the party enters, cognizant of the countdown. Partial concrete walls divide this large office into several cubicle workstations. A statue in the northwest corner is the room’s most prominent feature: a brass rat crouching defensively over piles of antiquated metal coins, paper currency, and credsticks. The statue extends an empty paw, as if requesting payment.
Within is also a singular robot, large, humanoid, and armed to the teeth. Upon the door being opened, it charges weapons!

Game Master S |
Trusty Trashbot's feinting aim is just enough, as he strikes the robot with her Static Arc pistol. The electricity seems particularly effective, frying quite a few circuits!
The robot engages its combat protocols and instantly its movements become faster. It fires twice at Trusty Trashbot while backing up away from the doorway.
Plasma Rifle: 1d20 + 19 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 19 - 4 = 20
Plasma Rifle: 1d20 + 19 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 19 - 4 = 17
but its aiming reticle seems to need realignment.
Round 1:
Trusty Trashbot: Hit!
Hostile: Miss
Reaper: Go
Arratoi: Go
Dr. Mech Coy: Go
Patrick: Go
Desha: Go
Terminator: 48
Arratoi |
Arratoi moves into the room and yells, "Get that distended crystal-breaking pee soaked goblin!" while firing his pistol.
Improved get'em gives everyone +2 to attack the robot.
hand cannon vs KAC, get'em: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 2 = 24
P damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Reaper Sigma |
Reaper flows into the room and takes cover as he fires at the security-bot.
Trick Attack: flat-footed unless Trusty leaves it so, then off-target

Use Agent's Respite to Reroll that attack.
Fighter Handcoil, ghost killer, holy: get'em
To Hit: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 2 = 32 Electric: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Also try to identify it.
Engineering 1d20 + 13 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 13 + 3 = 17
Dr. Mech Coy |
Mech Coy moves into the room and takes cover in the far corner. They look at the robot, trying to figure out what the capabilities of this model likely is.
Engineering: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 13 + (4) + 1 = 29
Just barely a double move to get to where he is. Leaves a spot open with cover for Desha.
Patrick Messier |
Patrick isn't going to bother with a gun, Instead he creates three magical sigils in the air then flicks them at the robot. If necessary, he will magic hack one of them to make it more powerful.
mm: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) + 3 = 11
Game Master S |
Arratoi pushes the party into combat, and barely misses with a shot.
Dr. Mech Coy knows a terminator class robot when it sees one. You've already seen two of its nastier features, the accelleration chip and integrated weapons. It also comes with a limited mimetic polyalloy that allows it to repair itself. Ask any other question you'd like.
Reaper Sigma's approach is just a bit off, not fooling the terminator. Thankfully the shot is better. The electricity scrambling some circuits.
Patrick opts for the sure thing, drilling it with a trio of missiles.
Round 1:
Trusty Trashbot: Hit!
Hostile: Miss
Reaper:
Arratoi: Get'em!
Dr. Mech Coy: Move
Patrick: MM
Desha: Go
Terminator: 68
Dr. Mech Coy |
Interesting! I wonder if there is some way I could generalize those polyalloys to use in treatment?
"These have the same shoddy surge protection I've seen in many Pact Worlds robots, electricity tends to wreck their circuits. This class of robot also has an ability to self-repair, so take it down before it can use that!"
Which is more accurate, it's melee or ranged ability?
Game Master S |
The doctor knows it's even more accurate with its slam.
Dr. Mech Coy |
"Probably want to stay at range, these type of robots are optimized for hand to hand combat."
Desha Doash |
Desha moves up to support Reaper and fires a shot over his shoulder at the robot.
Staccato Rifle, IGE: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 2 = 21 Damage (So): 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Game Master S |
Desha moves up, but the shot goes a bit wide.
Round 2:
Trusty Trashbot: Go
Hostile: TBD
Reaper: TBD
Arratoi: TBD
Dr. Mech Coy: TBD
Patrick: TBD
Desha: TBD
Terminator: 68
Trusty Trashbot |
Trusty shoots again!
Bluff Trick Attack: 10 + 21 = 31
Pew Pew (Static Arc pistol): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Electrical Stun Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Trick Attack: 4d8 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 4) = 8
Game Master S |
Trusty's theatrics are great, but aim.... not so much.
With Reaper Sigma so close, the robot opts for a single shot:
ATL: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (18) + 19 = 37 for E & F DMG: 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (7, 2) + 10 = 19 It then closes with the android!
Round 2:
Trusty Trashbot: Miss
Hostile: Hit
Reaper: Go
Arratoi: Go
Dr. Mech Coy: Go
Patrick: Go
Desha: Go
Round 3:
Trusty Trashbot: Go
Terminator: 68
Trusty Trashbot |
"Let's try this again!"
Bluff Trick Attack: 10 + 21 = 31
Pew Pew (Static Arc pistol): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Electrical Stun Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Trick Attack: 4d8 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 4) = 16
Arratoi |
Arratoi yells to everyone, "Get that two-bit banshee-voiced web-foooted dim-witted rust-pile!" while firing his pistol again.
Spend 1 RP on Improved get'em gives everyone +2 to attack and +2 to damage on the robot.
hand cannon vs KAC, get'em: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 = 27
P damage, get 'em: 1d12 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 = 12
Arratoi then yells out to Reaper Sigma, "You know, your name backwards is 'Amgis Repaer,' which means 'Kick-Ass' in ysoki!!"
bluff: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Arratoi's inspiring boost statement not only heals Reaper Sigma for up to 20SP but also possibly comes off as plausible - maybe?!?
Dr. Mech Coy |
Dr. Mech Coy makes sure his static arc pistol is set for lethal damage, then peeks around the wall of the cubical and fires at the robot.
Ominous Static Arc Pistol vs EAC: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Lethal Electrical Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
No Git'Em bonus because SRO.
Reaper Sigma |
Reaper will wait for Arratoi to go before he acts. Want that Get'Em! bonus.
Reaper stays where he is, using the constructs's bulk and the furniture to conceal his actions.
Does not provoke due to shooting because of Uncanny Shooter ability.
Trick Attack: flat-footed unless Trusty leaves it so, then off-target
Stealth: 1d20 + 19 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 19 + 1 = 34 Damage: 4d8 ⇒ (8, 8, 1, 4) = 21
Fighter Handcoil, ghost killer, holy: get'em
To Hit: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 2 = 26 Electric: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Desha Doash |
Desha grips the bipod on her rifle and fires a shot into the security bot.
Staccato Rifle, IGE: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 2 = 21 Damage (So), IGE: 1d10 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 17
Game Master S |
Arratoi's encouragement is punctuated with a solid shot!
It's just what Reaper Sigma was hoping for. The blast fries a slew of circuits as the robot looks very out of sorts now.
Dr. Mech Coy is close behind with a light hit, but the electricity fries pretty well.
the magic missile never fails, and Patrick continues to pile it on as the robot rocks backwards.
Desha's rifle is off, but the Trusty Trashbot lives up to its namesake. The final shot leaves a sparking hunk of ruined circuits!
Out of combat. Room review:
Partial concrete walls divide this large office into several cubicle workstations. A statue in the northwest corner is the room’s most prominent feature: a brass rat crouching defensively over piles of antiquated metal coins, paper currency, and credsticks. The statue extends an empty paw, as if requesting payment.
Desha Doash |
Desha approaches the statue and drops a credstick loaded with a few hundred credits in the rat's paw.
Game Master S |
I was remiss the first time for skipping this step. It's more than simply making the offer, you've got to make the contraption work via Engineering checks.
Trusty steps up to the statue with the cred stick on it, and has little issue handling the contraption.
Engineering: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
Datch adds, "Of course, I wouldn't have expected anything different!"
The sounds of forcefields dropping fills the room for a moment.
