FYI: I forgot your CP adjustment on Nashaxian's attack.
@ Ezaki: While it seems like it should be affected by the curse, conceptually, stabilize does not restore HP so it is not affected.

Ezaki shuts death's door to Zelphari, providing Elfino time to switch places with Elsha and tend to the sorcerer's grievous wound. Zelphari regains consciousness, but the dark pus quickly seeps through the applied bandages.

"So nice that you worry about your fri--Ow!" the devil is cut short as the elf fires an arrow into the devil's arm. Nashaxian growls and breaks off the shaft. "Fine! You all die then!"

Brunwulf charges across the hall. He is forced to pass over the grates if he is to make it there swiftly, and, predictably, the coals flare and blast the hunter with a painful sirocco. Blisters begin to form on his exposed skin. His reprieve is brief, though, as he finds the area near the throne is as hot as the grate and more skin blisters. He thrusts at the devil's heart, but the blade is slowed as it passes through his iron-like beard. He is rewarded with a wince from the devil, at least (hit).

The devil inhales to gloat when he is buffeted by Ikta's force missiles. The assault knocks him back half of a step, and his eyes flare with angry fire. "I am going--!" he starts before Elsha splashes a vial at the foot of the throne (miss). The fluid splashes over the devil and Brunwulf, who may find the cold a welcome reprieve.

"Really?" the devil asks as he deflects Zelphari's ray of energy with an offhand sweep of his glaive (miss). He swings the glaive back down toward Brunwulf and cuts deeply into the man's shoulder. Blood, black pus, and fire spray across the wall as the force of the blow drives Brunwulf's body to the ground.

"Now you!" he says, looking directly into Ikta's eyes. He charges down the steps of the dais and onto the grate. The glaive slams into Ikta painfully, and the wound begins to suppurate like Zelphari's and Brunwulf's, but perhaps to her surprise, she endures the blow. Nashaxian roars in rage at the half-orc's refusal to succumb.

Note: I couldn't tell if Elsha has the Bomber research field because the website is bugging on me when I try to open profiles. However, the presence or absence of that 1 HP has no effect on this round's end result.

I was kind of hoping that Brünwulf would stay upright for more than one round against the devil, but I guess playing with fire tends to shorten one's life expectancy somewhat. Let's see if I can recycle my last turn post and get similar results.

He looks on in dismay as Brünwulf goes down under the blows of the devil, and realizing that the ranger will probably die if someone didn't patch him up soon, Elfino moves quickly to his side.

Please note: Elfino can move 35 feet which allows him to get to the lower-left (south-east by the compass rose of the map) square adjacent to Brünwulf in one Stride without having to step onto a grate.

Action 1: Stride (35 feet)

Sorry for the late post. Had a busy Saturday. Hmm, with all the hints that the GM is dropping, starting to feel that an electric arc with (more-or-less) guaranteed damage is better than striking with the devil's high AC to finish him home. But that would be so meta-gamey... :)

Zelphari takes a quick glance at how badly wounded much of the party is, and he lets out a loud roar of frustration, very uncharacteristic of the usually collected Zelphari, causing the winds to surge briefly around him.

Sweet! Thanks. I'll probably be using it pretty quickly, what with all the healing coming up.

By the way, since the devil is the subject of one of Elfino's Pursue a Lead investigations, does he get a +1 on his counteract rolls against the devil's magic to use a healing potion? How about Administer First Aid on the infernal persistent damage?

Elfino is a little surprised when the devil turns to Ezaki and sweeps him off his feet. When the fiend's Halberd then comes down on the prone boy, Elfino can't help but flinch and look away momentarily. Turning back to see the results of the blow, his first feeling is that of relief, but it is with some small guilt that the relief is that it wasn't himself at the receiving end of that strike. "That blow would have killed me for sure."

Expecting to see the mangled corpse of Ezaki, he is astonished to find that the boy is not only alive, but still conscious. "He still lives! How remarkable; he must have used some protective magic, or maybe the voices in his head are more useful than they appear."

Elfino casts a trained eye over Ezaki. He notices the black pus oozing from the strange lad's wounds, and realizes that without immediate assistance, he would soon succumb to it. He knew that Itka wasn't doing that well herself, but the black pus of her wounds seemed to have cleared up; she was no longer at death's door like Ezaki. "Itka, the boy needs my help more than you right now. I'll be back, but if you feel yourself about to pass out, then drink Elsha's elixirs."

The elf waits a few moments to let Zelphari engage the devil.

Free Action: Delay until the end of Zelphari's turn.

He watches with satisfaction as the fiend is finally taken down and the body dissipates. "Good job, Zelphari! I thought we were done for." He then carefully weaves his way around the grates and falls to his knees next to Ezaki.

Action 1: Stride (35 feet) to the square down-right/NE of Ezaki

Once again, he whips out his bandages and ointments and dresses Ezaki's wounds.

Action 2: Battle Medicine (Forensic Medicine) on Ezaki

Battle Medicine (Medicine): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Oh, now I get a crit! Where was that roll last round when we needed it.

Battle Medicine Healing: 4d8 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 3) + 1 = 13 hit points healed.

That should keep Ezaki conscious long enough for him to get rid of that pesky persistent damage (fingers crossed).

Itka Biklest wrote:
It's only then that she realizes that the potion had no effect. Another bloom of panic swells within her as she gasps: "It didn't work! The potion failed!"

While working on Ezaki, Elfino hears Itka's warning about the healing potions not working. He realizes that there must be some malignant magical influence in the devil's wounds that has to be overcome before any magical healing will take effect. He makes a mental note to that effect.

Once Ezaki is looking healthier, Elfino looks at Itka and Brünwulf to see who needs his help more. Itka's wounds seemed to have stabilized and she was out of immediate danger; Brünwulf's wounds were still seeping black pus and it seemed to Elfino that he would soon fall victim to them if the black pus wasn't taken care of. He moves to be closer to Brünwulf so he can administer to his wounds some more.

Action 3: Stride (35 feet)

As he approaches Brünwulf, he calls out to the ranger with some urgency, "Brünwulf! Quick. The wayfinder. We must try to trap the devil in the throne before it's too late!"

I want to leave Elfino where he will be adjacent to Brünwulf when the ranger tries the wayfinder trick on the throne, but not so close that the throne burns Elfino. I don't know what that green square thing is. An altar? I can't see it described anywhere. Feel free to move Elfino closer to the throne if it is safe for him to do so; he has plenty of range left on his last Stride.

Ezaki feels bolstered and invigorate by Elfino's ministrations, even as the infected wound continues to eat away at his chest.

While the room itself remains uncomfortably hot despite your bodies producing sheets of sweat, the grates no longer flare with burning heat when crossed nor does the throne radiate any additional heat now that the devil has been subdued.

@Zelphari: Given that Ezaki's HP were improved to 17/18 before round 6 where you could have used the scroll, I'm going to negate your premature action and allow you to redo your turn when it comes up.

@The Green Rectangle: I don't know. I was calling it the throne. It's not the most accurate map as far as furniture goes.

Elfino glances back at Ezaki and sees that he's managed to stop the black pus in time. "That only leaves Brünwulf." He turns back towards the ranger and finds that the man has moved out of reach. Now that the throne seems less hot, he steps closer.

Action 1: Stride (35 feet)

Fortunately, Administer First Aid only takes 2 actions.

"Hold up there Brünwulf. Let's take care of that nasty looking black pus first." Elfino then goes to work. He takes off the old dressings; washes the wound as best he can; applies a heavy coat of his most powerful disinfectant ointment; and redresses the wound.

Looks like I may get to keep that Hero Point to the end after all.

Perhaps now would be a good time to point out that when it comes to Hero Points... you can't take them with you.

Elfino puts out his hand and stops Brünwulf from reaching for his potion. "Don't waste your time Brünwulf, the potion won't help you. You'll have to get through this with just my help."

By my count, Brünwulf just took another 2 hp and should be down to 7. Good enough for 3 more tries before we need to do something more serious.

Doctor Elfino examines the bandages and sees that Brünwulf's retching undid all the hard work he just completed. The elf looks over to Elsha and Itka and shouts, "Elsha! Bring over your elixirs. If Brünwulf doesn't get through this soon, he's going to need them."

He turns back to his patient and once again cleans and redresses the wound.

Okaaay. So much for my newly minted Hero Point. Here we go again.

Administer First Aid (Medicine): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Elfino looks over his work with some pride, but suspects that he'll be going through this again very soon. "Oh well. Practice makes perfect."

With Elfino's succesful Administer First Aid, the DC for Brünwulf to recover from his persistent damage drops to 10; that's a 55% chance of success; the same chance that Elfino now has of successfully doing another Administer First Aid.

Elfino pulls a minor healing potion from his bandolier and holds it loosely in his hand in case one of the spellcasters wants to take it and try feeding it to Brünwulf.

Then, indicating the Healing Potion in his hand, he adds, "Never thought these fellows would fail me, but you learn something new every day."

He tucks the potion back into his belt pouch and looks around at his friends. He sees that Itka, though no longer buying a ticket to Pharasma's Boneyard, isn't exactly looking her best. "Come here Itka, let's see if I can fix you up a little."

Through Elfino's persistent ministrations, the rot spreading from Brunwulf's wound slows in its crawl across his shoulder and eventually stops entirely. With the cursed wound abated, Zelphari's subsequent magical healing has its full effect, and the hunter begins to feel much better.

Concerned that the devil may reform sooner than you would like, you place the wayfinder upon the throne and form a circle around it to speak the words of sealing. As you begin the ritual, the throne flares as if illuminated from within, and you can almost make out what might be the devil's face across the back of the throne before the light fades. Diggin's instructions apparently proving true, you now must come to a consensus on whether to release Diggen from the wayfinder or leave him imprisoned and bring him back as a trophy (or throw Zelphari's wayfinder into a lake).
