The Red Reverend
|
Start with the statue room, then move to the dusty one if nothing jumps out at us.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
| DM Carbide |
There is an inscription in the floor in front of the statue, in a language none of the party knows. Other than that, the priest finds nothing.
On returning to the dusty and curtained room, Red finds nothing but dust on the floor.
The Red Reverend
|
Thassilonian finally ran out of usefulness, huh?
Knowledge: Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
"Another Thassilonian god, and another one that isn't awful - this one for the aspects of mind, body and soul. It's strange to see them in a place like this."
Jianyu Tu
|
"I thought they were all awful?"
Jianyu looks puzzled, though this isn't unusual.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
"Sounds very monkish. I wonder how long it has been since someone worshipped here."
Obviously Tusk is not interested in anything of the sort as he follow up with...
"I guess we should move on to the next room."
And true to form he heads into the next room without waiting for anyone or anything.
Nitre
|
Nitre moves along with Tusk, trying to keep up. She pauses at the top of the stairs she thinks Tusk is heading to. "There was a trap down here, wasn't there? Is it safe now?"
| DM Carbide |
The language of the floor inscription is indeed Thassilonian.
As Tusk sweeps out of the curtained room, the breeze he kicks up rustles the heavy curtains. Jianyu, Mitsrandir, and Nitre notice that there's a door behind the curtain on the east wall.
Mitsrandir Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Nitre Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Tusk Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Nitre
|
"Whoa, Tusk!" Nitre calls. "It's your favorite thing, a door!"
She goes over to it, inspecting it for traps, hoping that the automaton will return.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
| DM Carbide |
Nitre doesn't see any traps on the door.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Tusk grumbles, thinking he does NOT like doors, just putzing around and searching every inch of a room.
He gives them a minute to look at a stupid door, growing ever more inpatient, and then moves in to open it.
"Aaack. You do know what a door is for, don't you?"
| DM Carbide |
Tusk flings open the door and is promptly hit by an arrow for 6 HP.

Tusk Two-Blade
|
Tusk looks affronted, as if the idea that someone would actually trap a door is offensive. I mean, it's a door. You are supposed to go through them.
"Hey, not fair!"
| DM Carbide |
The yellow creature is a skeleton, but there's something about it that seems a little more robust than the typical sort encountered. The other creature is a zombie, and seems likewise a little tougher than usual.

Jianyu dashes forward and his hand lashes out like a scorpion, aiming for the weak points (more out of habit than expecting it to work on a zombie).
Attack roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
However re remembers halfway through his strike and tries to just punch as hard as he can but this throws off his aim.
Nitre

"Hey, whoa! Something's happening! Tusk, are you okay?!?" Nitre darts into the room, looking for the trouble that there seems to be.
Double move: 40'
Tusk Two-Blade

Tusk pauses to yank the arrow out of his armpit.
"Unless it was poisoned, I'll be fine."

Having finished plucking the arrow, he follows the others in, feeling slightly buoyed by the sounds of the bard. Taking a two handed grip on the axe and taking advantage of the distraction provided by Red, he makes a wide overhead swing at the skeleton with the yellowed bones in front of him.

125 hits their AC, right? Once more without typos.
+1 Scythe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
| DM Carbide |
That would have been quite a hit, Red. You also forgot about Mitsrandir's inspire courage, so unless there's a reason you don't get a bonus from it you do 12 HP instead of 11. By an amazing coincidence....
Red follows up Jianyu's fruitless attack by stepping in and landing a devastating blow. The zombie falls.
Out of combat!
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Tusk does a little jig and dries out "One point for me!"
Did I just say that?
Then looks a little embarrassed and heads for the door.
"Um, shall we?"
Without waiting for an answer he reaches for the doorknob but halts.
"Do you think this one is trapped too? Maybe I better get healing first."
He hands his wand over to Red who, I assume, heals Tusk from his injuries.
CLW: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 = 13
Nitre
|
"Wait, points? Are we keeping points? How many do I have?" Nitre asks, quite innocently. She then begins digging through the skeleton and zombie's pockets, and searching the rest of the room as quickly as she can while Tusk gets healed.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
| DM Carbide |
There is nothing in the room except the party and the bodies. It's clear from the tracks in the dust that others besides the party have been through here, though. Nitre finds no traps on the door.
| DM Carbide |
The door opens to reveal a narrow hallway going north, with a branch to the east before it turns west. The hall is empty.
| DM Carbide |
The hall goes only a few feet before turning north again.
| DM Carbide |
Nitre notices a door in the east wall, and the dwarf realizes that its far side must be in the area where the party encountered the archer skeletons.
| DM Carbide |
Peering around the corner, Tusk sees a branch to the right before the narrow hall opens up into a room. As it happens, his half-orcish darkvision isn't needed--the room is lit.
| DM Carbide |
Before I describe the next bit, I'll pause for everyone else to catch up.
Nitre
|
"Us dwarves are famed for never getting tired. Tusk, how do you do it?!?" Nitre banters as she continues to shadow the half-orc.
The Red Reverend
|
The Reverend takes a spot next to Tusk, saving his breath for the next battle.
Jianyu Tu
|
Jianyu looks up from trying to walking the footprints of whoever else was in here to realise everyone has moved on so hurries after them.
| DM Carbide |
Assuming Mitsrandir follows:
The branch to the right leads to a spiral staircase leading up. With nothing else of pressing interest, the party advances to the room.
Even before reaching the entrance, the acrid stench of peculiar reagents fills the air. The walls of the chamber are marred by strange stains and scorch marks. Several tables are scattered about the room, covered in a bewildering plethora of glassware: alembics, retorts, tubes, and smoking beakers holding brightly colored liquids. One of the tables has a simmering cauldron on it. Strewn about the room are pages of written notes in a crabbed hand. A large alcove in the northwest corner contains a bookshelf groaning under the weight of heavy, dusty tomes and scrolls.
Three large glass vats stand against the eastern wall, filled with bubbling green fluid. Floating within the vats are three grotesque objects: putrescent corpses, tubes and wires embedded in their rotting flesh, their skin mottled with decay and chemical stains.
A human man with graying hair and a truly mad aspect is watching the doorway as you approach. In a flat voice, he says, "You were not invited here. Mister Marrow, please see them out." In response a zombie (at least it looks like one) shambles towards you.

The man calls out, "Number Three, now!" At the cry, the middle body twitches in its vat, then bursts out with a rush of noisome fluids and shattered glass. It staggers forward a short step and stands ready. Then the man snatches a vial from his belt and hurls it at Red. The priest doesn't quite duck in time, and the vial hits him, bursting and spilling frigid liquid over him and Tusk! Red takes 7 HP cold damage, and has to make a DC 14 Fort save or be staggered for this round. Tusk, take 4 HP cold damage, with a DC 14 Reflex save for half damage.
