Tusk Two-Blade
|
Tusk shrugs. "Glue? Magic (duct) tape? Let's take it apart and see!"
Tusk spends a little time wrestling with the armor in an attempt to yank the head from it.
| DM Carbide |
It comes apart readily. There's no sign of what held it in place.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
"Hmm. Not impressed."
Tusk walks away from the dismantled armor and starts heading off down the hall and towards the south.
| DM Carbide |
The corridor leads south quite a ways, with a branch to the east down a flight of stairs that matches the configuration on the other side of the level.
The Red Reverend
|
"This probably also leads to the room with the statues. Maybe it will be less... unappealing to you folks to go this way instead?" the Reverend says, peering down the corridor.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Nitre
|
Nitre pauses by the Red Reverend, glancing down the corridor to the east as Tusk continues south. "Oh, are we doing this again?" she asks the air as the half-orc increases his lead.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
| DM Carbide |
The branch to the east does mirror the hall on the other side, descending to a landing and then from there to a set of matching double doors. Unlike the branch on the east side of the level, though, the landing is empty of body parts, and there is no opening in the ceiling.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Tusk takes advantage of the distraction of the others to move further south on his own.
| DM Carbide |
The hall continues south, with no sign of any doors.
Tusk is now out of sight of the rest of the party.
Jianyu Tu
|
"The monks said someone who's plans fail, fails at planning... I think. Wait where did Tusk go? TUSK! WHERE ARE YOU?"
| DM Carbide |
The Red Reverend
|
"We need to get a leash for that guy"
Red moves towards Tusk as fast as his heavily-armored legs can carry him.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
LOL. A leash is a good idea if you can make him wear it.
"Over here! Found some backpacks and a hole."
But nothing to fight. Oh well.
With nothing to engage with Tusk peeks around the corner where the corridor goes west and then waits where he is for someone with nimble fingers to check out the backpacks.
Jianyu Tu
|
Jianyu follows along and after a quick check for spiders or worse he sticks his head into the tunnel to see what he can see, holding the torch out in front of him.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
”Ah! A spider! Wait no, just a funny shaped rock.”
| DM Carbide |
The backpacks are mostly empty but for some food wrappers and sacks.
Jianyu can't see the end of the tunnel--it seems to go for some distance, though.
Nitre
|
Nitre glances down the tunnel after Jianyu, but doesn't hold hope for anything too interesting.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 darkvision
"Let's keep this hole in our back pocket, but keep exploring the more, ahh, professionally constructed parts of this place first." Nitre approaches the hallway to the east and takes a good look.
| DM Carbide |
Nitre doesn't see much more down the tunnel. To the dwarf's practiced eye, though, it looks recently dug.
| DM Carbide |
The hallway goes east for a little less than forty feet before ending in a set of double doors. There's also a door on the south wall and a branch to the north.
The Red Reverend
|
Red follows Tusk, readying for whatever jumps out at us next.
| DM Carbide |
The hall goes ninety feet north before ending, with three sets of matching doors evenly spaced on the east and west walls.
| DM Carbide |
The door does not move when Tusk pushes at it, nor does it budge when he pulls it.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Tusk frowns at the recalcitrant door. The elongated fangs makes it look quite threatening, though the door doesn't care. So Tusk moves to the first door on the left in the north corridor and opens that one instead.
| DM Carbide |
Tusk has fangs on his forehead?
The door creaks open to reveal a room whose decor is entirely out of character with the rest of the rooms the party has found so far. Brightly-painted carvings along the walls vividly depict mighty dragons in flight over shining cities, while below winged angels kneel and serve human masters. Peacock-feather motifs dominate throughout the chamber, and a faint, pleasant perfume drifts through the air. Several humans lie supine atop biers draped in rich cloth--if they are dead, the bodies are perfectly preserved and have the appearance of relaxed (if unmoving) sleepers, showing no signs of corruption or decay.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
A wrinkled nose joins his creased forehead and fanged mouth. i.e. nope. Just a combo effect, as if you didn't know.
"Stinks in there."
Tusk pauses to see if the humans are real or statues or, perhaps, illusions complete with human stink. Why human women liked to cover themselves with the stench of flowers always intrigued and annoyed Tusk. What kind of men were they trying to attract, anyway?
The Red Reverend
|
Red enters the room and looks around.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
| DM Carbide |
Red detects nothing beyond what has already been described.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Tusk stands guard as Red searches, ready to pounce on anything that even looks like it might offer a fight. When the search turns up nothing he grumbles and moves on to the next door moving in a clockwise direction.
Nitre
|
The map hasn't been revealed for this room yet.
Nitre joins red in a thorough search of the place, careful to not disturb the bodies.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
| DM Carbide |
I uncovered the room--thanks for the reminder.
Nitre likewise finds nothing out of the ordinary.
The Red Reverend
|
Just following along as Tusk systematically opens every door in this hallway. One check per room.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
| DM Carbide |
And is Tusk going to oblige by opening the doors?
Jianyu Tu
|
Jianyu walks along with the group looking for patterns in the cracks and shadows.
Nitre
|
Nitre lends her moderately keen eye to the examination of the rooms as Tusk opens the doors.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Tusk steps up and opens the next door. He is surprised to have an odd creature lunge forward and bite at him, but his armor saves him from taking any damage. The creature has a body like a human or elf woman. Its face is inhuman, with vertical jaws, and its hands are clawed.

Tusk loosens the door, readies his weapons, and gives the door a shove with his foot. As hoped, he is met with a fresh adversary and a chance to even the score. With grim determination, Tusk lashes out with his weapons, though he is a bit off balance due to the 'fancy' footwork.

Nitre hits, but the difficulty of attacking around the edge of the door frame keeps her from getting a good extension.
Mitsrandir can act!
Nitre recognizes the creature as a sinspawn, an aberration created through magic and the soul of a being possessing an abundance of one of the seven sins.
| DM Carbide |
Since Mitsrandir acted first in the round, the inspire courage affects both Tusk's and Nitre's attacks.[/ooc]
Tusk's first attack hits but does not drop the sinspawn. Then Nitre steps up and cuts its head off.
Out of combat!
| DM Carbide |
Shockingly graphic depictions of sexual activities with all manner of creatures in multiple configurations decorate the walls of this chamber. Five humanoid skeletons lie in state on biers--though the bodies appear human, the skulls are monstrously inhuman (and bear a strong resemblance to the sinspawn the party just slew). A pile of bloody bones and feathers mixed with scraps of leather are all that is left of a recently killed creature.
The sinspawn wears some valuable-looking jewelry, and the search turns up two small vials in a cabinet along with embalming tools.

Those are definitely vials.
