| DM Carbide |
Mitsrandir thinks she may hear faint rustling from the armor.
Mitsrandir
|
"be careful, I swear I heard something creak inside that armor, while it was preparing just in case it was necessary
Tusk Two-Blade
|
With a smirk, Tusk responds with "See. We should crack it open."
Tusk gives his two headed axe an experimental swing as he leans up against the wall in the hallway.
"I'm ready whenever you all are done."
Nitre
|
Nitre bends her ear towards the armor, and sees if she can hear what Mitsrandir is talking about.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
The Red Reverend
|
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Oops, used the wrong modifier. Probably wouldn't have worked anyway.
"..."
| DM Carbide |
Red and Nitre don't hear anything from the armor.
Jianyu Tu
|
Jianyu leaps forward, excited by the idea of talking armour (that's how he interpreted it anyway)
He stands on tiptoes trying to find a way to look inside the armour
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
| DM Carbide |
It's too dark inside the armor to see anything, and the monk also does not hear anything.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Wonder if it's a swarm trap. I hate swarms. Maybe I'd be better off not breaking into it. Or...
Tusk fishes out a flask of alchemists fire from his backpack.
"I got an idea! Hey, let me have a try."
| DM Carbide |
What's everyone else doing?
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Barring interruption, Tusk is going to dump an alchemist flask right down the throat of that suit of armor and watch it burn.
The Red Reverend
|
Gripping his scythe tightly, the Reverend prepares for whatever might happen.
| DM Carbide |
Tusk, you're currently placed about twenty feet away from the armor. Were you planning on throwing the alchemist's fire at it?
Tusk Two-Blade
|
No, he walks up to it and shoves it inside. Icon moved. Though after he shoves it in he backs off again.
| DM Carbide |
As soon as Tusk touches the armor, a cloud of buzzing insects boils out of every gap in it and covers the area around it. Nitre and the half-orc are nibbled by the creatures' sharp mandibles for 2 HP, plus DC 14 Fort save or distracted/nauseated.
Round 1 (ongoing; rearranged):
Initiative order
Swarm
Tusk
Mitsrandir
Red
Jianyu
Nitre
Everyone can act!
Mitsrandir Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Nitre Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Red Reverend Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Tusk Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Other Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Swarm damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Swarm: AC ? T ? FF ? HP taken:
Tusk Two-Blade
|
So before he was able to shove it in they all attacked? Grrr... At least he is appropriately armed.
fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
"Dang swarms. I knew it!"
Tusk steps out of the swarm (where the x/armor is) and prepares to toss his flask at the swarm as soon as Nitre is in the clear.
to hit alch fire: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Crap. Somehow I usually miss with alchemist fire.
"Crap"
Undeterred he pulls out another one.
The Red Reverend
|
"Get back, everyone!" the Reverend shouts as the insects appear. "I can deal with this! Come here, little buggies."
Readied action: When at least one swarm and no allies are within 30 feet, channel negative energy: 1d6 ⇒ 5 (DC 15 half).
Won't be the first time Red handled a swarm this way.
Jianyu Tu
|
Jianyu draws an alchemist's fire and readies it for the moment he has a clear shot.
Move to draw alchemists fire, standard to ready action to thrown when he can get a shot that won't get his allies in the splash.
| DM Carbide |
Jianyu, from your current position you don't have line of sight on the swarm. Tusk, which square were you targeting on it?
| DM Carbide |
Round 1 (ongoing; rearranged):
Initiative order
Swarm-acted
Tusk-acted
Mitsrandir
Red-holding
Jianyu-holding
Nitre-
Tusk wildly overshoots the swarm, hitting the top of the wall.
Jianyu, strike that last--you did say you were trying to look into the armor, so I put you next to it. I think everyone is at a minimum waiting for Nitre to get out of the way.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
I give Nitre permission to anyone to throw a splash weapon at the swarm if they might hit me for a point of damage.
| DM Carbide |
It remains to be seen whether or not Nitre will be able to attack this round.
| DM Carbide |
So just to be clear, Jianyu and Tusk are ignoring Red?
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Well, if you allow me to I will certainly assume Red spoke before Tusk went and have him skedaddle out of there after launching the flask. Moving icon now...
Nitre
|
Fortitude DC 14: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Nitre vomits where she stands, then gingerly moves away from the armor.
Nauseated!
move: 20'
| DM Carbide |
Sure, Jianyu and Tusk can retcon. Tusk can move back further before throwing his alchemist's fire.
Jianyu Tu
|
When the creepy man says move Jianyu doesn't need to be told twice even if I do
He gets back out of the way and pulls out an alchemist fire of his own.
| DM Carbide |
Even after everyone retreats as best they can, the entire party is still within thirty feet of the peculiar priest.
Red, do you want to channel anyway?
The Red Reverend
|
Red is willing, but I also need permission from everyone in the area of effect to damage their characters, right? Only Tusk has said he is okay with getting hit.
The Red Reverend
|
If this is going to be a problem, Red can delay until next round instead. Or just push Mitsrandir out of the way.
| DM Carbide |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Shoving Mitsrandir out of the way seems the more reasonable option, unless you want to find yourself the closest target to the hungry swarm. I hope for the sake of your future party members that you're planning to pick up Selective Channeling soon....
The Red Reverend
|
It was less of a problem when this character was for a local group where every character was a cleric.
"Mitrandsir, I said GO!" the Reverend shouts as he pushes his ally out of the way and prepares to unleash his god's fury on the insects.
Not sure how this affects the action economy, but I presume everyone else can delay until after Red's second turn if that is required.
| DM Carbide |
And I can tell I've been way too distracted lately--just realized that Mits hasn't taken an action this round. Easy bot!
The Reverend's reverential shove breaks the elf out of her reverie, and she retreats rapidly. Double move.
Profane power burns into the swarm, and a swath of the hungry insects fall and move no more.
Everyone but Red and Mits, 5 HP negative energy damage, with a DC 15 Will save for half damage.
Round 2 (ongoing; rearranged):
Initiative order
Swarm-acted
Tusk
Mitsrandir
Red
Jianyu
Nitre
The remaining insects overrun the nearby cleric. Red, take 3 HP, plus a DC 14 Fort save or distracted/nauseated. Nitre recovers from her nausea now that she's out of the insect cloud.
Everyone can act!
Swarm damage to Red: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Swarm: AC 16 T 16 FF 14 HP taken: 7
Tusk Two-Blade
|
will ST: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
"Yea, burn them!"
After giving the Red Rev and chance to vacate the area, once more Tusk leans back and hurls a flask at the swarm and then steps back.
to hit ranged touch, range penalty: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 - 2 = 23
crit: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 5 - 2 = 17
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
crit damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Well the damage sucks, but at least they are on fire! I assume I have permission to splash the Red Rev, though he might not be in the area if he moves. The targeted square is the swarm's upper left.
Jianyu Tu
|
Will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
"Ow! I moved! Wasn't it far enough?"
Jianyu waits for The Reverant to clear the area then follows Tusk's example with an alchemist's fire of his own.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
The Red Reverend
|
You all said I could channel at you. It is only fair that I take splash or miss damage from your fire.
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Whew. Same as last turn - if the swarm is still moving and everyone is clear and/or has acted, channel for 1d6 ⇒ 6 damage.
Nitre
|
Will DC 15: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Nitre retrieves her wand and heals herself, all while keeping an eye on the combat and hoping the other Pathfinders have this in hand, because she clearly doesn't!
Move: retrieve wand of cure light wounds
Standard: cast cure light wounds
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
| DM Carbide |
DC 15 Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Between the alchemist's fire and the dark power from the Reverend, the swarm is dispersed.
Out of combat!
Where to now?
The Red Reverend
|
Red searches the now-hopefully-safe armor before moving further down the hall.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
...and may not even find the armor with that check.
Tusk Two-Blade
|
Tusk also searches the wall behind the armor, wondering if the trap protects some door.
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Or course his competitive nature gets in the say and he keeps bumping and interfering with Red as he tries to find something before Red does.
Nitre
|
Nitre calmly waits for the boys to finish their investigation, then walks back over and makes sure that their bravado didn't miss anything.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
| DM Carbide |
There is nothing concealed behind the armor. Nitre notices that there is no skeleton inside of it; it's not clear how it's held in position.
