Once a large bifurcated guardroom with arrow slits to the west and south, these chambers are now largely devoid of furnishings. A broad stair descends to the west, looking out onto the citadel’s entry, and arrow slits and a door open onto the entry where it turns to the east. Dual stairs climb to the floor above from the center of the room.
On the stairs a fiery looking giant is dozing and two rather large dogs who are only bone and skin and also on fire guard the two doors. One of them gnarling right in front of Ohrmizd.

The dead fire giant has a half-plate, a greatsword and a key on him. What it is for is not obvious here. As the door to the south is not locked and there are no other doors in this room.
Looking out of the arrow slits on the sides of the southern door you can see a large gate and a very wide flight of stairs leading upwards. But there is a hydra chained to the stairs. It has nine heads.

@Foxy With that bit of business out of the way, I am afraid I am getting lost in the descriptions. I have marked what I think is your " very wide flight of stairs leading upwards". Is the 9 headed hydra in the pink box or the green box? Where do the smaller stairs (circles blue, yellow and red) lead to? (Up, down, do they end in doors?)
Upon spotting the chained Hydra, Omari remarks "It'd not be sporting to shoot it down while it's chained, but that's meat on the table if we want...
Can someone make a knowledge check? Are Hydras intelligent? Do we know what language to talk to them? Also, how long is the chain?

There is no way around the hydra. The huge beast alone can almost block the whole stairs without moving. And the length of the chain makes sure no one passes the stair or the gate without permission. The hydra probably is able to hide from arrow slit shooting.

"I don't see any real percentage in it, honestly. Yes, clearly the Hydra's guarding the grand entry-way, but we've got 2 perfectly good sets of stairs that go up in here, as well as one that goes down and I've never been in love with hey-diddle-diddle, straight up the middle as strategy. My suggestion would be to clear our backtrail (the one room we missed, circle in dashed pink on the map) then try one of these stairs. I am somewhat curious about who's chaining up hydras as guards though; the Azer's thought this place long-abandoned by Javhul and fair game for looting. So who has moved in? "

Up the stairs (without the hydra) it goes. This huge chamber is relatively empty, save for a few enormous bunks pushed against the walls in the eastern portion of the room. Several banks of murder holes decorate the floor to the west and south. Two fire giants stand guard in here and they attack immediately.
