Aurus just zips over to the intersection where he can get a view of the one guarding the book and looses another arrow, making sure that there is no way they can reach him with their glaives without teleporting.
To Hit Red: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 8
Sheesh. I sure hope I don't hit Nemrok by accident!

So that's a fly less than half your speed check?

No, he will go 20' west, 10' up and 10'down. total of 40' with no greater than a 45 degree altitude change.
miteke
Huh? Only horizontal movement is counted? Where the heck is that rule? And, if so, how did you get 25'? How high are the buildings and how high Is Aurus right now. He can probably just go over the roof to the other side in a straight line. But can he do it and avoid an AoO? I put him back where he started but I'm thinking he could go southeast 3 squares and then 40' south (45 degree turn so no roll) and get a full move in without a roll.

to move 10' up (without a fly check) you have to move 10 x 2 = 20' horizontally
to move 10 down (without a fly check) you have to move 10 / 5 = 5' horizontally20 + 5 = 25
If you go South, you will be leaving the shield other range

Is there a way for the cleric to maybe figure out the ritual?
Not really. The only sure way is to lure all devils away:
Aurus could land next to Riceak, switch to the two handed sword and start performing. Then Riceak could bit of luck Aurus. If Cloudia would then cast haste, it would give Aurus 2 attacks all with roll twice, take highest.
GM Auke
The red devil laughs!
"You had no chance with the help of your friends, why do you think fighting us by yourself would be different!"
The burning pentagram nearby increases in brightness.
"It won't be long before all my kin are released!"

Aurus has had a teensie bit of bad luck. He will lay hands on himself and do another swoop on the evil minion guarding the book...
To Hit Red: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 31
Damage: 1d8 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 = 14
Confirm Red: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 8
There is still plenty of time on the fly spell to do in one or two of these things if they insist on standing over the book.
Aurus basically will keep shooting and flying east/west on alternate rounds. Hopefully before they can finish the ritual.
"AHA! Gotcha that time. Never had a chance to practice my archery on LIVE devils! This is rather fun, wouldn't you say?"

Can Nemrok please roll above average for once? (actually average would be better than the lousy rolls since the encounter started...)

Still not daring to cast a spell, knowing it will reveal her, she remains where she is.
GM Auke
Standing perfectly still, Nemrok finds, at last, how to merge the two books!
Nemrok finally figures out how the two books should align.
Which side of the Infernal Incantation 01-50 Front 51-00 Back: 1d100 ⇒ 52 to wich side of the Celestial Song 01-50 Front 51-00 Back: 1d100 ⇒ 12
How to align 01-50 Top-Top 51-00 Top-Bottom: 1d100 ⇒ 100
He also figures this would almost immediately restore the seal and end the threat of a massive devil jailbreak to Absalom. However, he does not know how this would affect the devils that have already escaped.

[ooc]Putting the books together would be two move actions (turn around the infernal incantation, then put the celestial song on top of it.), picking them up and putting them in your backpack would also be two move actions.[ooc]

Nemrok still has a standard action left.
GM Auke
Nemrok uses his last action to put the invisible book on the other to start the ritual.
Nemrok puts down the tome on its sister tome and it immediately becomes visible shining brightly. The burning pentagram vanishes and the devils cry out in anguish as the blue light shines on their bodies.
