Would it be possible for some one to a rapport with small rodents, or even just rodents? Or does the animal type have to be a monster group from the bestiary [such as all dinosaurs, all bears, all eagles. no all birds]?
Also does anyone know a way for the bard to get small animals as a pet? Not as a full combat option like a druids companion?

Personally, I think "rodents" would be an acceptable type of animal. To get less table variation, you may be better off specifying, for example, "rats" as there are probably people who consider rats and bats to be different types of animals, despite both being rodents.

You can buy them. Goods and Services, look under Animals.
There's also the Bag of Tricks though you only get the animal for 10 minutes at a time, and there are other restrictions.
Bats aren't rodents they're part of the Chiroptera order. But I had missed all those animals in AA, thanks.
