Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin, seeing Karrin go "Fun-Sized" realizes that the warrior is giving him a chance to do something ranged, and probably fiery, to the gold elemental.

And Justin does not intend to disappoint her.

The wizard points his 'Blasting Rod' (Patent Pending) at the creature, and channels his Will. The runes carved into the Magical Focus glow with a reddish heat.

"Fuego Encircluus!!"

Violet flames pour from the Rod, flowing towards the Elemental. The flames encircle the golden creature, creating a violet Wall of Fire around the elemental 20' high.

Elemental Wall Wiz ability, as 'Wall of Fire', Circle, JUST big enough to make sure it is entirely inside it. It takes 2d4+7 fire dmg when it appears, and every round it is inside it after that. (Base wall dmg within 10 feet +Wiz Intense Spells pwr) IF/When it passes THROUGH the wall, it takes 2d6+15 Fire Dmg. All NO save. I can use this power for 12 rounds/day. Either concentrate to maintain, or drop and re-activate it.

"If it passes through the fire, hit it and get away! Stay out of it's dust! I'll re-encircle it!" Justin calls, his brow furrowed with concentration on his magic.

Fire dmg: 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (1, 4) + 7 = 12

The ring of fire encircles the golden creature. Justin notices something strange. The haze of golden motes surrounding the creature melt away where the fire touches them! It seems the flames are hot enough to melt the aerosol gold flakes into golden droplets. Cruikshanks decides to take a stab at ranged attack. He produces a short bow and begins to let fly

Atk 1 shortbow (with Vital Strike): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 292d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7
Atk 2 shortbow: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 201d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Atk 3 shortbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 231d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Haste atk shortbow: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 331d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The arrows ricochet off the melting golden creature harmlessly. He unsheathes his great sword

The martial folks are a bit daunted by the violet wall of flame. They hold back, except for Alessia, who charges into the flames

I am assuming that Alessia wouldn't give two fncks about the fire. If this is the correct assumption, Alessia will take 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (5, 5) + 15 = 25 fire damage when engaging in melee.

Mel shrugs and looks at Justin.

"Seems you have the right idea."

He points and yells, 'BOOM!"

Flame Strike 12d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 1, 4, 4, 6, 5, 4, 2, 3, 6) = 47

Goldie's ref: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

A column of radiant fire arcs down into the circle to envelop the golden creature

"Where did you pick THAT one up?"

Avrahim looks at his crossbow and shrugs

"Likely I will fare no better than our new friend did with my bolts. Plus, I am not as ... fearless ... as Alessia"

Crookshanks moves closer to the conflagration, readying his sword

"My kind are resistant to flames. I will help the warrior maid!"

Crookshanks is obviously new, otherwise he likely would not have used the term 'maid' in conjunction with Alessia

OK. Anyone with anything they want for RD 1 let me know, otherwise we will go to RD 2. Alessia basically has Goldie pinned in place, and the elemental is leery of the flames. Crookshanks will engage, but the other NPCs are basically unable or unwilling to engage with the flames about it, and that DR 10/- makes range kinda worthless

Let me know when round 2 starts. Justin ACTUALLY has plan this time! :) But I didn't actually think it would work before Alessia and Crookshanks jumped in! ;P

I think this might be the first time Alessia has taken damage since the start of the adventure... If true, she's down to 102 hp.

Natural 20 immediately followed by a natural 1. That's new.


Human Wiz 12 (Evocation)

Justin cringes as the Hiver jumps through the flames, the searing magical fires clearly damaging even Crookshanks's fire resistant skin.

"Sorry!" Justin calls out in reflex.

With a breath releasing the tension of his concentration, the wizard drops his magical circle of fire.

Then he takes a breath, aims his 'Blasting Rod', and focuses his will. The violet flames reappear. This time instead of a circle, they form a straight line. And the Golden figure is standing directly in its path.

"Yeah that's right pal. I can do this ALL day!"

Making it a Straight line this time. Damage side facing AWAY from most of group. (SO dmg is facing Crooskshanks, he only takes the 'area' dmg) Since Elemental is standing in its path, full dmg. As long as the others do not cross the line, I do not think they take any fire dmg? (Or, do they take the dmg for physically attacking one IN the wall??)

Fire Dmg; for Goldielocks: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (4, 2) + 15 = 21

The lance of fire toasts the tiefling a bit more, but he's still game. The elemental looks like a wax figure sitting in the sun. Thick runnels of molten gold slough off it

OK, you guys are DPS machines

Alessia feels the life force of the creature flowing into her. She feels like her skin is glowing, her muscles swelling with raw elemental power. She gets snatches of visions from the creature’s life. Swimming in pools of molten metal. Striding through rock as if it was nothing but fog. Kneeling in glowing chains before a crystalline giant with blue glowing eyes and a literal cloud of ioun stones orbiting his head

The creature screeches, and it loses coherent form. Its arms and legs liquify and it settles into a puddle of molten gold. The heat fades and the puddle begins to solidify

nice job. Who has the handy haversack?

Heh, to be fair, I think if we had entered into physical range of that thing with it's 'cloud' intact? We'd have had a very different encounter! ;) Sometimes, Fire IS the right tool for the job! ;D

Justin drops his concentration and the wall of fire fades away.

"SORRY Alessia! Crookshanks! I didn't intend for you two to ENTER the fire to get to it!"

How do I write THAT 'loot' on the loot list? ;) Wonder if Renkar is interested in unmarked, uncoined gold chunks for any reason?

Along with the other items Justin has been taking from main and side quest threads. (IE= Beholder Essence container, vials of remains of the slime/pudding monsters, Both for Alchemical reasons.) ;)

Alessia recalls a name from the flood of memories she gathers from the dying elemental: Crystalle. She is certain this is an elemental ruler of some sort. Perhaps this creature was an outlaw?

The motley group stands at the edge of the giant cavern Gormoth-Moktor. Various fissures and openings pick the sides. It looks as if the gold elemental was scooping out a small vein of gold before the party chanced upon it.

For looking for the exit: Survival rolls, perception rolls, or I’ll even take a K(geography) if anyone has it

I’m going to assume you head towards the green fissure

The party, after scraping up the gold corpse of the elemental, heads off towards the green seam. It is a short journey, and they soon face it.

The fissure looks like it is a large seam of copper. It has that green oxidized look copper gets with age, much as the nearby predominant iron is a rusty red. The fissure is five meters tall, and three wide. It seems to lead upwards in an organic twisting fashion

Greetings. This unit received your request and spent 6 hours, 31 minutes and 22 seconds researching the particulars within the library. The following is a summation of the unit’s discoveries.

The Citadel of Ruin is a large fortress located within a rust cave on Avalas known as Gormoth-Moktor. The Citadel of Ruin is an ancient stronghold that frequently changes owners. The last reported owner was a Petitioner goblin warlord known as Gunthum Gorespitter. This information is at least 500 cycles old, so is not reliable. Gormoth-Moktor is a depository of many ruined items, what is known as a ‘junkyard’. The junkyard surrounds the Citadel of Ruin, and poses a difficult terrain to traverse. There are several paths to the surface of the cube, and one known as the Verdigris Seam is known to have a portal to Sigil somewhere along its passage. The portal reportedly is a star-shaped depression in the wall, and requires a drop of oil to activate. It only goes in one direction - from Avalas to Sigil, ending up somewhere in the Great Foundry District.

The fee for this research is 367 GP, 4 SP, and 2 CP. As this unit has had prior beneficial dealings with you, the fee will be interest free for a period of one cycle. Afterwards a late fee of 10% will compound per cycle unpaid.

The group heads into the seam. The air has a musty, metallic smell, and there seem to be small rivulets emerging from several points in the walls. There are several branches to the tunnel ahead.

Justin mutters to himself as he follows the rest into the seam.
Several of Karrin's past actions and statements suddenly come to mind, and click into place like puzzle pieces. If he's right,...

Memnon's hissing snicker reverberates strangely off the walls.

"Well somebody needs to take the glory and the blame and it sure as heck isn't going to me. This job is like herding cats, no offense Merle and Seph, and it requires someone smarter than everyone here, wise enough to give sage advise, and charismatic enough to give those pep talks to motivate everyone into action, and I'm terrible at pep talks, and dumb as as a brick, so that means it's got to be you Justin. Also someone's got to do all the writing and record keeping and that sounds like the sort of thing wizards love to do we're practically doing you a favor by letting you do all the things you love. I mean you really aught to be thanking us, but we won't hear of it, we're humble that way."

As Karrin finishes expounding, Alessia stops and stares at her blankly for several beats, then quickly turns and continues forward down the tunnel.

The seam seem to have several forks. It also seems to trend upward on the left hand side, and downward from the right.

OK. Time to play ‘ which road do we travel. Three forks, left or right. Let me know which combo you want to try
