Truth be told. I set this up for a friend who wanted to GM a game.
we are now looking for a few players.
we plan on starting with an adventure from the beginner's box (for his benefit) before moving onto some homebrewed adventures.
I think 3 more players should do it. so if your interested, just let us know.

The Emerald Duke |

Tentatively interested (though in the event of overwhelming interest I will defer to those who don't have as many games going at the moment).
Questions for the GM (or you if you prefer):
1) Granted it is his first GM, and thus he would probably not want to see anything OVERLY complex, but what would be the creating guidelines? Or, given you are using the Beginner Box, would we be stuck with using the pregen ones that come with it (Cleric, Fighter, Wizard, Rogue... if memory serves)?
2) Is this going to be here or will it be elsewere (ex: Roll20)?
3) Has the GM played previously (here or IRL) and this is just his first foray into GMing or is this his first adventure? (No problem if it is, just curious.)

Wasteland_Wizard |

@The Emerald Duke
1) I will be acting a bit as his advisor, I have some GMing XP. but I don't think it will be a problem if you make your own character.
2) as for other sites. I think here, but I will not rule out roll20 as a possibility although he may have a few problems getting into a position to use it.
3) as for his former experience. I am unsure how much experience he has playing, but I assume that he has some experience since we have talked about playing. but it remains...
I will also tell you I will be joining as a player, though my own experiance may not be the best compared to some.

Wasteland_Wizard |

I would say
roll up a first level character using the core races and classes for now.
ability scores rolled like normal, but nothing bellow 10 (or a mod of 0), always reroll 1s.
you may have one trait, 3 if you take a drawback.
and, as said, will go through one of the beginner box advenutres first before going into a homebrewed champaigne. so more options might be open then.

The Emerald Duke |

Stats1: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 5) = 16 (rerolling 1)
Stats2: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 2) - 2 = 9 (9, rerolling)
Stats3: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 2) - 2 = 8 (8, rerolling)
Stats4: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 5) = 17 (rerolling 1)
Stats5: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 1) = 6 (rerolling 3 ones)
Stats6: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 1, 3) = 9 (rerolling 2 ones)
1: 1d6 ⇒ 6
2: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 3) - 2 = 9 (9 again, rerolling)
2,again: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 3) = 15 (rerolling the one)
2,1: 1d6 ⇒ 1 (...)
2,1: 1d6 ⇒ 1 (where is that virtual sledgehammer)
2,1: 1d6 ⇒ 5
3: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 1) = 12 (rerolling the two ones)
3,1s: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10
4: 1d6 ⇒ 6
5: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6) = 12
6: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
So... if I did all of that correctly:
16, 16, 14, 17, 13, 14. Let me know if you have any objections to any of the above (put behind the spoiler to save on scrolling space).
As I said, I will defer to a third person that isn't in as many games right now if there is interest... so as such I will hold off on declaring a class just yet. My personal preference would be for the game to be run here, though I can do roll20 if need be.

The.Squirrel.Ninja |

I am interested. I love core action and have never played the beginner box.
Stat 1: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 2) = 8 7 (re rolling)
Stat 2: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 3) = 18 15
Stat 3: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 1) = 10 9 (re rolling)
Stat 4: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 2) = 14 12
Stat 5: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 3) = 18 15
Stat 6: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 1) = 18 17 (re rolling the 1)
Stat 1: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 4) = 14 11
Stat 2: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 2) = 10
Stat 6: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Stat 2 again: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 4) = 12
Stat 2 again, again: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 1) = 12 11
Ok let me know if I did this right. If not, let me know what you would like me to do.
11, 15, 11, 12, 15, 17
Thinking about Human Ranger if selected.

I am glad you saw this, I was actually planning on PMing you a link. Mostly because I know you are looking to play in addition to GMing. As I make my (increasingly likely to be) cleric I will touch base with you... assuming we are both from Sandpoint it is likely we would at least be aware of each other, ;)

That would be cool!
@DM I will get something written up here today. I already have something in the works, just need to adjust the crunch with the stats I rolled.

Here is my submission for Fillip Tarnell, Human Divine Tracker Ranger. He is a follower of Shelyn and works for the temple in Sandpoint.
I had one question, will you be using the Background skills to allow us to help flesh out our characters? I did not use them, but would make a few minor tweaks if you hand planned on using them.

Only your mother is alive. Father passed recently.
1 human female sibling younger, 1 half orc male sibling older
Middle-Class Birth - You were born to the middle class, which includes merchants, artisans, and tradespeople. You likely grew up in a good-sized settlement, and one of your parents is likely associated with a guild or other trade organization. As a free person, you don’t experience the bondage of serfdom or peasantry, but you also lack the privilege of the nobility.
Tradespeople (Mother Baker, Father Carpenter)
Troubled First Love - Your first love was everything you imagined it would be. That is, until you were separated from your beloved. This may have been the result of distance, changing perspectives, death, or differences in class or family. Some have said this made you jaded—you think it has granted you insight on how the world really works.
Knight-Errant - You know that evil stalks the world, and only one who is dedicated to the spread of good can stop these vile forces. To make sure fiends and wrongdoers do not go unpunished, you adopted the code of the paladin in order to travel the land and eradicate the wicked. Your goal is the relentless pursuit to seek out evil and put it down.
The Mentor - You had a mentor who taught you everything worth knowing about life. This could have been the person who taught you the heroic abilities you possess, or simply a kindred spirit who helped form your worldview.
Negligence - You caused someone else to suffer by your own inaction, disregard, or excessive recklessness.
Lover or former lover
Justice
No Guilt - Either guilt is for the weak, or you know you made the right decision. You might not openly brag about your part in the conflict, but you don’t deny it when confronted either.
Several Significant Relationships - You’ve engaged in a number of partnerships, but for some reason or another your relationships always fail.
Background is a rough outline using the background generator

The Emerald Duke |

OK, so working on a dwarven apprentice blacksmith / cleric of Torag. Debating taking the forgemaster archetype or not...
Pros: some cool runic magic that you can cast on yourself or others... plus natural enhancements to crafting.
Cons: only get the Artiface domain and do NOT get channel energy... so significantly reduced healing output. (Don't get me wrong, still have healing... just not the same kind of of "Oh crap, everyone group up and channel" safety net).
Will think about it.

The.Squirrel.Ninja |

Ok, I did some work and I think that I have a more meaty background for Fillip Tarnell Let me know if there is anything that needs to be changed or tweaked. Looking forward to this game, if selected.

The.Squirrel.Ninja |

Yeah the town names and locations are really plug n play. That is why I didn't even name where Fillip was from, or even what really happened after he left.
When are you thinking recruitment would be finished and an expected starting date might be? I am in no rush, just wanted to make sure everything was finalized and good to go.

Wasteland_Wizard |

This should be running within the next week. Hopefully, sooner than later.
I'll just need to get in touch with my DM friend as he has run into a little trouble with a few things.
There may be a pause in between adventures, as we will shift from the beginner's adventure to homebrew.
As mentioned, I will be helping my friend in making everything.
Please cut him some slack, as it will be hir first time.
But, as soon as everyone his done making their characters. I think you 3 are what we got besides myself.
I'm thinking about a pyromantic sorcerer. I'll stick with a core race unless this character dies.
