Kennari realizes that there are two earth elementals bound to this stone! Breaking the gem would release them. They were probably intended to be reinforcements for the xulgaths.

There is more to realize with a higher check, if someone else would like to try.

A corridor runs straight through the base of the tower. The mudbrick lining the corridor is cracked and crumbled from the roots and vines that grow through it. The plant life here is so thick that it dangles from the walls and the ten-foot ceiling, obscuring vision down the passage.

You see a stone figure, set to guard the passageway. It moves to attack!

Prism and Unset rush up and Prism gets in one sneaky stab.

You pause to treat your injuries, and continue down the corridor.

The center of the tower is occupied by a massive domed chamber, 60 feet high and with four large alcoves. Each alcove houses a defaced statue of Aroden. Corridors lead out of this room in each of the north alcoves and one between the two south alcoves. In addition, a 10-foot diameter shaft pierces the apex of the dome. Dozens of silvery mirrors float in the air in a series of concentric rings, slowly rotating in opposite directions. A pedestal in the center of the room supports a large, multifaceted crystal. A beam of bright light extends through the shaft in the dome above and strikes the crystal, where it is refracted into hundreds of rays that bounce across the room, creating a kaleidoscope of colors on every surface.

The chamber is not empty. The strangest xulgath you've ever seen stands ready for you. His four enormous arms dwarf his tiny head, making him appear almost headless. Can that guy even see over his jacked shoulders?

Critical Success The target dodges the spike and is unaffected.
Success The target is struck by the spike and takes half damage.
Failure The target is impaled through a leg or another non-vital body part. The creature takes full damage and, if it's standing on solid ground, becomes immobilized. It can attempt to Escape (the DC is your spell DC). While it remains impaled, it takes damage from any weakness to cold iron it has at the end of each of its turns.
Critical Failure As failure, but the creature is impaled through a vital organ or its center of mass, taking double damage, and it is off-guard as long as it's impaled.
