"It affects all plants, which in turn makes the animals leave, and well, it's just plain creepy. You'll see it if you're really getting off at Willowside," a merchant explains to Unset. Unset can see that he is changing the prices on his wares to two or three times the normal cost.

Captain Tiratelle tips her hat again to Rova. "Well, pray to him to help us make good time then."

Eventually, you reach Willowside. The Geode’s Center arrives at a long pier extending from a hilly headland. It’s the lone merchant vessel among a dozen small fishing boats crewed by hardworking fishers. A wiry, middle-aged human woman directs the ship into the pier with practiced ease. There’s no evidence of a town in sight, but a small crowd waits on the land, just off the pier, eyeing the ship with undisguised eagerness.

The people in the crowd are dressed in fine but functional clothing, although all of them look thin and some look positively malnourished. One family waits to board: they have several trunks with them and appear to be leaving the town permanently. The merchants on the Geode’s Center are quick to unload their wares, almost all of which are foods marked up to double their normal cost or more. The townspeople eagerly buy up the food, doing so in orderly lines. It’s clear that the town still has plenty of money, but townsfolk’s opportunities to acquire food are much more limited.

The dockmaster introduces herself to you as Arglynn Pranson. "The Geode’s Center is always welcome, particularly in these hard times when food in Willowside is scarce."

An energetic halfling woman runs up to you. "Hi! You must be the circus! Do you need any musicians? I'm Myrrie Mollern, and I'm a great flute player! I get to come with you when you leave if I'm part of the circus, right?"

Unset quietly mentions the mark-ups to the rest of the party. ""Don't much approve of bilkin' people, ole Unset doesn't. Especially, if it keeps 'em from payin' fare to the circus."

Given past reactions from crowds, Unset does his best to be inconspicuous as the ship unloads. Instead, he tries to take in the local area to get a sense of the place and, perhaps, a look at what is going on with the plants and wildlife.

Unset climbs up a small hill to see the scenery and gets a clear view of the Welt. The area’s scrubby plant life is sickly and withered, and even the stones on the ground look brittle and broken. The land is quiet, without even insects or birds to make noise. It’s clear that getting anything to grow in the Welt is a losing battle, which doesn’t bode well for Willowside’s future.

Myrrie continues to plead her case. "Really, I'm a great musician, everyone says so! And I can help you out in town; you need a local guide, right?"

As you make your way along the road, you all soon see the obvious effects of the Welt.

You also see huge tracks crossing the path.

These are the tracks of a dinosaur, probably a triceratops.

The townsfolk seem nervous.

One woman stammers out, "Those...those tracks weren't there when we came this way a couple of hours ago."

The townspeople nod nervously, and you continue along.

As you travel a little further, you hear muffled screams coming from just over a hill. There, you see three large, obviously carnivorous plants and a pair of legs sticking out of one!

The townspeople look at the plant, look at you, look at each other, and back to you.

What do you do?
