I have returned!

Ick-tk-chk-ka scratches one wezer with a single claw, but misses with all of her follow-up attacks. Khar proves to be decidedly more accurate with his strikes--though his bastard sword fails to carve a bug asunder, his short blade rams through the side of a wezer's skull and takes it right off!

Weapon Breakage?: 1d20 ⇒ 1 Uh oh.

There's a SNAPPING noise as the obsidian short sword's blade breaks off at the hilt, still embedded in the wezer's now decapitated skull. Khar's obsidian short sword is broken.

Cale scores a shallow cut across one wezer's back.

Laurelin:
You start squeezing your way down the southeastern tunnel. It goes to the southeast for several feet before turning to the northeast--and converges with another tunnel. There are two passages on either side of you, as well as the main one that branches to the north and south. From where you're standing, the chambers to your immediate north and south are filled with jhakar carcasses and what looks to be a squirming, sand-coloured larva.

The water fetcher wezers you are following turn to the south and intently hurry along.

Frowning slightly, Crow shifted his grip on the long handle and swung the heavy obsidian blade again.

Khar and Crow hack two more wezers down.

Laurelin:
You follow the water-fetchers down through the tunnels, carefully maneuvering your way through the narrow, cramped passageways in your pursuit of water. Your insect pheromones are holding steady, causing any wezers who notice you to not give you a second thought.

As you emerge into a larger chamber, a pair of soldier wezers rush past you, running back the way you came.

One of the water-fetchers abruptly stops and drops its ball of wax in a corner of the chamber, while the other one continues to the south.

The remaining worker wezers try to sting the party into submission!

Grunting as another fell, Crow mostly ignored his attackers. They were too weak to do more than irritate him. Instead he lined up another blow, aiming to thin there ranks by one more.

Khar hisses with the pain of a second sting, but swings again trying to keep them from being surrounded.

Laurelin scoops up the wax ball, cradling it in the crook of her right arm while holding the torch away with her left hand - careful not to accidentally melt the wax by getting the torch too close to it - and decides to push her luck. She heads south, but if she spots anything resembling a queen, she immediately doubles back for the exit.

Cale's enhanced blade sticks right into a wezer's back, but he feels its hilt loosening as he pulls it out. The worker wezer collapses.

Laurelin:
You trek further south, and soon the tunnel opens up into a much larger chamber filled with wax balls. Some of them are dark-coloured, others match the colour of the ball you're carrying now. Several bloated human corpses, half-eaten and almost pulsing with writhing maggots, are against the far wall.

Seated among the wax balls is a large queen wezer, impassively staring at the water fetcher bringing a wax ball to her feet.

The remaining wezers on the surface don't get the hint and continue to try to defend their hive...

The sound of buzzing starts to fill the air again, coming from inside the hive...

The workers sting again!

The thri-kreen manages to catch the incoming stinger in her claws and throw it aside, while Crow manages to dodge the other one's stinger.

Three more brightly-coloured wezers emerge inside the central wax dome, ready for a fight.

Crow grunted at the newest sting. There were a lot of these little things, and they were irritating. Still, the hive could only hold so many, and the desert support a certain size. Eventually, he'd get through them all.

Laurelin scoops up two more balls, one of which is darker, and then turns and heads out the way she came as fast as she can!

Still maintaining pheromones. Since Laurelin doesn't have a bag, she has to carry them all in one arm while she holds the torch in her other hand, and I figure this is about the limit of what she could do. Imagine carrying three one-gallon jugs of water in one arm. She can probably only do it for a short time, hopefully just long enough to get out of the hive.

I'm guessing that the dark ball is honey or royal jelly, I guess we'll find out when we crack it open!

Khar hews another worker down with brutal ease and Ick-tk-chk-ka and Ick-tk-chk-ka finishes off the last worker annoying Crow.

Laurelin:
The queen shifts as you enter the chamber and gather up wax balls to take back to the party. They're quite awkward to pick up, especially with just one arm.

You'll need to make DEX checks every minute you carry these wax globes because of how cramped the tunnels are and how many you're carrying.

Cale swings carefully one more time, trying not to dislodge the blade, but ready to cancel his psionic enhancement the moment it does dislodge

Cale's strike hews another wezer into the dirt.

It doesn't take long before the remaining wezers are hacked to bits and Laurelin rejoins the team, carrying three balls of wax: two of them are brightly coloured, while one is dark-coloured.

The wezers don't seem inclined to fight any longer.

"good job everyone, we have triumphed once more." Cale grins tiredly was he cleans off his weapon. He frowns at it, annoyed at the poor balance and weight of the thing, but knowing that he's unlikely to see proper elf forging for a while

Khar retrieves the broken obsidian from what used to be a bastard sword. "I don't know if this has value any longer." He says simply and sticks the jagged shard into the sand. "We need more water than that."

Khar takes the sword and swings it a few times, testing it out, then sticks it into one of the leather straps. He nods at Ick. "Thank you." Khar then grabs a nice fat wezer corpse himself and follows the Kreen.

A bit frustrated, Laurelin says, "Either we'll have to raid the hive again for more, or keep moving and hope we can find more water somewhere else."

It's still nighttime. Perhaps a couple of hours have passed since you left Nyxra's camp.

Ick considers Laurelin's words, she looks around, counting the number of dead weezers. The hive might not send out all of it's warriors, it would serve them better to fight underground. Ultimately she thought it was too risky, at least without recovering her energy. She considered the supplies at hand. Ick had enough water for two weeks or more but her tribe needed what amounted to luxurious amounts daily, to the point where she wondered where it all went inside their bodies. Finally she considered the distance they had come and how close they were. They couldn't be more than 2 days from the oasis. But what would they do if it was dried up? She considered killing Cale.

Are each of the spheres 1 unit if water? I think Crow only has one day's worth of water not sure about the rest. Did we as players want to go back into the hive? I think we'll be fine maybe until we have to confront the queen. Otherwise I'm fine moving on.


Yes, each sphere is 1 unit of water and the honey is 1 unit of food.

Wow, considering killing the only one who can drink the poisoned water. Perfect plan :P
Cale goes to see how much of the water tainted with elfroot was left.


Cale should still have 2 units of tainted water left, assuming you haven't already consumed one.

Crow remained silent, unsure which option available was best. It sounded like fighting now was the riskier but more certain to find water. Fighting now seemed easiest. It was what Crow knew. But maybe too many of the insects would be a problem for the others.

Ick said finally after a too long pause, "We go back in now. Lauelin you know where the water is, lead us directly there. Cale if you're too tired you can keep watch outside."

Hopefully the tunnels aren't too small for me and Crow.


Crow will have his movement speed halved and he'll need to crawl about, but it's workable.
