Rhen says "That be how ye kill dee enemies, Ranok." He searches the remains and finds a fine looking chain mail, a well constructed longsword, and a well crafted cloak. "Any of yes can ID this stuff? Looks well made."

Ranok helps collect the gear in a rush and says "Yeah, We can identify it later. My spells and potions only have a few minutes to them. Let's not waste it. Here, I'll get this you go check the door."


Rhen says "I got dis door." He checks it for traps. No traps, he opens it. Beyond the doors stretches a 25-foot-long hallway. On either
side, iron sconces line the walls set five feet apart. The candles in
the sconces are unlit, though wax droplets beneath them seem to
indicate they were recently extinguished. Centered on the far wall
rests a five-foot-circumference stone plug, slightly recessed into the
masonry. A pair of crossed iron bars mounted onto the western
wall near the plug’s face form a handle. Spiraling runes carved into
the plug read “DEATH” in at least a dozen different languages.

Bumping into Rhen's back, Niu brings his concentration up to the door.

"Death. Seems like a pretty obvious warning, but is it more?"

After completing the examination of the cloak, Niu focuses his Detect Magic on the door to see if the runes are magical.


Niu identifies the items as +1 chain mail, +1 longsword, and cloak of resistance +2. The runes are not magical.

Rhen studies the door and the screw. He determines that the plug screws into place and can be turned using the handle. "I reckon this be opening the door. Nowhere's else to go. Who be openin'?"

DC 20 Strength check to get it in motion. 10 keeps it moving.

When inside, you see the doorway bisects a huge curved passage. Its carved cylindrical walls bear thousands of Hallit runes and sigils.

There is no gravity within the ring, though a slow moving force current pulls all objects around the ring in a counter-clockwise motion.

Moving clockwise is considered difficult terrain, Moving counter clockwise has no penalty or bonus. Loose objects under 30 lbs. slowly slide counter-clockwise at the rate of 5 feet per round.


Ranok feels a sense of impending doom overcome him.

Ranok seems bewildered by the arrangement beyond the door. He feels that going clockwise must lead them into a trap, but does not want to take the time to go counterclockwise.

You decide to move with the flow and come to another door due south.The opening leads into a rotunda formed from tremendous lime-
stone blocks. A ten-foot-tall dais rises from the center of the room,
supporting a concentric mini-ziggurat of layered, rune-covered
gear—even those with no magic can feel the supernatural energy
pulsing from the thing.
On either side of the dais, a half-flight of stairs ascends from
the floor to the largest gear. Colored chalk streaks the walls, floor,
and ceiling with arcane symbols and patterns, and sickly-scented
oils burn from careful placed braziers made from human skulls.
Scattered throughout the room flop the decaying parts of dozens of
battered undead corpses, all bearing bloodless gashes and sundered
limbs. These flop and undulate unnaturally, scattered beneath him
like fish in a net.
Above the strange seal hovers a horrifically decomposed hu-
manoid. The lower half of his body is gone, leaving only guts and
his dangling spine encased in a weird, glass-like receptacle filled
with sickly-colored fluids bolted into his chest. Tubes made from
intestines and other compounds rise from the fluids attaching to
his face, neck, and arms. He preaches loudly, bellowing obscene
liturgies from a strange book to a worshipful audience of rotting
corpses. Dark energies seep from the ziggurat, caressing the sur-
rounding undead.

As the party marches down the hallway, Niu casts Enlarge Person on Ranok.

Once they reach the seal and he sees what is arrayed in front of them, he considers his options.

"No point conversing with these things, is there? We should just attack swiftly and get this over with. I have a couple of spells left, so give me some room, if you can."

Anything I can tell about the abilities of the necromancer?

would my spells from last battle still be active? They each had a duration of four minutes. I have one second level spell left, so I could do another bless. I could also top Ziera and myself off with clw wand.

I healed Ziera after the battle with the warrior mummy. I do have a couple of offensive spells in reserve, the enlarge person I cast on Ranok was one of them.


I assume it took 5-10 minutes to get from the last battle to here. Noting Ziera is full HP now. This guy is not as tough as I thought he was at first glance, but I do have murder in mind :-)

Niu does not have buffs... My scrolls are mostly useless. If allowed, I will activate Flight, Hair, and zap Bless before the battle. That is all.

I do not think Ziera has used her Divine Bond yet. If so, she will use that to add Keen to her UB Longsword

Allowed. The height in the corridor is 10 feet, the height in the room is thirty feet. Drazmorg in his flying life support machine is effortlessly hovering at 25 feet.
