As that party rests their arms, Niu pulls the rope up to the top of the ledge and leaves it on the ground, ready for when they come back.

"Don't rest too much, you'll catch a cold in those damp clothes."

Turning he starts heading back toward the next challenge.


You make your way through the warrens, the next two upper levels and eventually exit the monastery. Fresh air for a change. It is 9:00 am.

Ziera greets Festia with a reserved sadness, her shoulders slumped. Heading over to the horses, she starts shedding useless weight, throwing the pavilion tent to the ground.

"Pack up whatever you need, Festia. We need to get to town and back as quickly as we can."

Ziera stops what she is doing, but gives Rhen a questioning look. "I hope you aren't suggesting leaving Festia behind to fend for herself out here in the wilds, Ser Dwarf. But yes, the tent and equipment can stay. We will be back, but we need to move quickly."

Riding hard for the next two days, Niu says little, mostly mumbling to Neb=en-toti, trying to figure out what spells would have given them a better chance.

When they finally return to town, he rides hard right up to the town gate and dismisses the horse at full speed, allowing his feet and new staff to settle slowly to the ground, walking with purpose before he stops to realize he doesn't know where to go.

Turning to one of the guards, he asks. "You have a provisioner about, yes? Arrows, rations, a wand of fireballs perhaps?"


"Stop there! Identify yerself or be struck down."

Niu peers at the guard as if a cat had suddenly started talking to him. Glancing around at his companions, he speaks slowly to the guard.

"Surely you have not forgotten the adventurers who saved your town from the undead hordes but a few days ago? We are a pretty remarkable lot, I think."

Tapping his cracked lips, Niu glances up and down at the guard. "Perhaps a newt would have better memory, but it would likely have trouble holding the crossbow. Not very effective as a guard, then..."

Waving his head to shoo away the distracting thoughts, he adds, "Nevermind, go an summon the sheriff, and if Lady Cirthana is still about we need to speak with her as well. We need to reequip and will then head back to the front."


"Oh, yeah-yeah-yeah. Some good fightin ye all did. Glad to have ye back. I gots to stay hear and look for dead-uns. Youse welcome in Falcon's Holler."

Ranok, happy to have Khonsu by his side again, approaches the town with a slighter lighter step than his exhausted form had below ground. "And then there was this half dead man in a glass jar..." Looking up at the conversation between Niu and the villager, Ranok rings his attention back.

Ranok would like a potion of flying (750gp), a compound strength bow +3 (400gp), and a quiver of arrows.


Rhen returns from low-market with what he thinks will bring down the necro. "I be ready to face 'im now." He holds up a barbed arrow. "I gots twenty but only needs one."


Close enough, Ranok.

"I am not privy to Lady Cirthana's whereabouts. The church would be my first guess. I will walk with you if this so important."

Jeva opens the church door. "Welcome to the temple of Iomedae. What brings you here at this hour? Where is Rhen? Is he okay?"

"Rhen? Who is Rhen?" Niu glances around and quirks an eyebrow at Khonsu.

"What's that? Oh yes, the short one with the accent. Right, he went back to do some more shopping again. Something about padded manacles or some such. You know how dwarves are."

Giggling, Niu goes to sip his coffee before realizing he never got a cup. Staring at his hand in confusion for a moment, he shakes his head and returns his focus to the acolyte. "We were wondering if Lady Cirthana is about. We have urgent news to report."


Jeva excuses herself and soon enough Lady Cirthana approaches the door. "Well, gentlemen, lady. What brings you to my quaint temple?"

Becoming serious once more, Niu quickly sums up the details so far.

"We followed the undead to the ruins of a dwarven monastery. Deep underneath that monastery was a hidden complex that the monastery was set up to hide and defend, though it is quite possible that its existence was hidden so well that everyone forgot.

Battling through hordes of undead, we eventually came upon a seer who had taken on the eternal task of protecting the structure. That seer informed us of the horrible reality of what has transpired.

During the Shining Crusade -- as I am sure you well know, Lady Cirthana -- the armies of good battled The Whispering Tyrant and finally imprisoned him within Gallowspire. The prison keeping him locked away from the world was sealed using three foci that were then scattered, hidden, and subsequently forgotten.

One of those foci was in this structure. A necromancer found the structure, weakened and entrapped the seer, and eventually destroyed the focus. The resulting surge of necromantic energy was responsible for the mass animation of the dead that we dealt with.

We found the necromancer and battled him, but were unable to defeat him as we were ill-prepared for this particular foe. We will head back again, but need to know that someone knows the danger to the world in case we fail.

We did find a clue as to the location of one of the other seals."

Niu hands the scrap of paper to Lady Cirthana.

"We will be glad to accept any help that you might be able to provide. If you perhaps have some way to provide us with swift travel or Death Ward spells?"


Cirthana listens intently to the words of Niu. She looks down at the scrap of paper indicating the location of a second seal. "Oh my....this must never leave these premises. I will devise a way to keep it permanently secured. Thank you for giving us warning of this threat. Should you not return in 5 days, we will send out a search party. Correct Deldrin Baleson? Regarding the latter, I am in no position to help you with those needs."


"Yes ma'am. Wish you folks the best out there."

"Iomedae be with you. You will have my prayers as well." She closes the door behind her as she moves indoors.


Rhen comes huffing and puffing down the street. "I gots me three plus one shots at 'im. Got to rig it so I can fire em all real quick like."


"Are you in need of mounts?"


"I got me own pony now, sheriff. Won't be needin dat white one with all the ribbons no more. Belongin to yer daughter and such."


"That is good news master dwarf."

"I thank you for the offer, Sheriff, but I prefer a magical horse. They don't need to eat and you don't feel bad if they get attacked."


"Very well. You folks be careful out there and your service to our community is greatly appreciated." The sheriff heads back the way he came.


You leave Falcon's Hollow and after a two day journey through the wood, you enter the dwarvin monastery. You continue deep into the many levels and arrive outside of the room with the broken seal.

After leaving Khonsu back up top again, Ranok adjusts the foreign feeling bow and quiver on his side, and checks his potion on his belt.

"I've bought the rage and some new toys. The story will go differently this time."

Ranok will wait until he sees Drazmorg to drink the potion and try his clumsy flying skills.

I checked off a spell slot to account for the Mount for today, as it doesn't seem like we rested again before coming down (which is perfectly acceptable)

Outside of the room, Niu activates Mage Armor, casts Heroism on Ranok, activates his hair and Flight, then finally activates Bless and nods to the others.

"I am primed with several ways to keep him from moving, as is Rhen it appears. I'll do my best to keep him Misfortuned so there is a better chance he will fall victim to those attempts, but we need to hit him hard and fast!"

Ziera is preparing Divine Favor and Compel Hostility today. Before the battle, she will activate her Divine Bond to make her bow magical and cast Divine Favor.

"I am sure he already knows we are here, so let us proceed. On the count of three. One, Two..."

"The plan is, I try to hinder him. You and I will then try to bring him down to the ground.

Ranok is going to attempt flying and attacking him from the air, while Ziera shoots him with arrows. Try to keep away from his spiritual weapons and thunderstorms. If he has to focus on moving them around, it will limit his ability to move."

Ranok can fly at a speed of 40, instead of 60, due to his armor. He will move up 20' and then ascend at a 45 degree angle for another 10, Can only move half when ascending.
