Hey. Real life.
I live in a 3 generation home.
This last weekend, both of the youngest generation (one is 2 the other just had her first birthday) got sick. So did their mom. Monday so did their dad. Somewhere in there, grandma got sick, too. Now I'm sick. At least the youngest seems to be over it.
If you need to bot me to keep things moving, please do.
I'm sorry, but I'm not even managing to focus to play spades on my phone right now, and that's amazingly brainless.
GM Down with Thrune!
Hey Til, hope everything ends up alright with your folks and that you all are already feeling better!
I myself was super sick last week and ended up getting my whole house sick, so I was in the same boat (though with significantly less people involved). That being said, I have returned and should be back to posting on every non-holiday day for a foreseeable future!
As for the tengu before the group, please anyone feel free to reply to the one at the lead. She's just got an eye on Lucius because he's our dashingly handsome meat-shield in shining armor.
Enara Etcheberry
Sorry I didn't see this earlier, Til, but I hope your household's run of the plague ends soon if it hasn't already.

The generic post to share before attempting to recovery post:
So, I got the flu. Not really over it, yet, but past the worst of it.
I went to get tested to verify it was flu, and the care providers went down the "better safe than sorry hole" a might to far, in my opinion.
Standard questions, designed to check for other, deeper concerns/problems, right? "Do you have any tightness in your chest?" "I've been coughing for about three days at this point, yes, I have a tightness in my chest!" So, they stopped everything about verifying the flu in order to check for a heart attack. Thing is, my fever had just started to break, and I was not only DRENCHED in sweat, but I was still actively sweating that hard. They couldn't get a good EKG read because the contact stickers wouldn't. Stick, I mean.
They called an ambulance and transferred me to an ER, to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack. The ER team was focused on EXACTLY one thing, for obvious reasons. First thing they did different? They took that super medical tape and taped the sensors down. EKG told them almost immediately that there was no heart attack going on. I was still in that ER for nearly 15 hours . . ..
IV fluids. Roughly 2.4 liters of fluid pushed into my system. Breathing treatment. Seems when I arrived in the ER, my O2 saturation was around 82. They started to admit me in order to watch my O2 saturation levels, but after I sat in their ER for that long without any further dips, they accepted it might not still be required and discharged me instead of continuing to wait for a room. Having an asthmatic wife means we have a nebulizer at home, and that helped sell the release, too. Still spending more time asleep than awake, for now.
Missed a couple of Santa gigs the family had lined up. Went to a photoshoot with a family yesterday. I was there for about 10 minutes, just needing to sit and smile, but I stumbled into the house when I got home, completely exhausted. I'm supposed to go get caught in a neighbor's house tonight. Very worried about going. Just as worried about denying their kids.
Enara Etcheberry
Holy crap. Please take care of yourself!
GM Down with Thrune!
Damn, Til, that sounds really rough. Take as much time as you need, for sure.
I'm personally super busy this week with the holidays and such so I don't know that I'll have the time to put out any substantive posts on the gameplay side of things.
Tilorean Vashnarstill
Without the negatives, the positives of life wouldn't be as sweet, right?
Life continues. That's the important part.
Rough would describe the life of the woman in the bed next to me in the ER. Every hourish a group of ER personnel would go on the other side of the curtain to help her shift in bed, so she had to be big. From what I heard, she was covered in diaper rash, because she can't fit into her bathtub to wash properly, and she's large enough getting up to go to the bathroom is serious work . . .. Too serious for someone in her age and condition, apparently. Retired teacher on a fixed income of less than $1000 a month. Lives alone, with no friends or family providing support anymore. She was in the ER after a failed suicide attempt. Her life is rough. Mine just gets annoying.
Enara Etcheberry
I hope everyone's holidays went relatively smoothly and that our resident Bard is feeling better!
Hemdar
Holidays have gone pretty well for me, managed to avoid getting into arguments with certain relatives, and my home group is finally getting around to trying out starfinder this weekend, which should be fun. :)
Hope you & everyone else in the ER gets better, Til.

So, now that we have downtime and things, I can craft stuff, and move around runes! Unfortunately, I won't be able to craft magical items until next level when the Magical Crafting feat becomes available to me, but it's still useful.
As of right now, we have 2 +1 Weapon Potency runestones that I can transfer onto some weapons. I can do a single transfer in 1 day of downtime.
What do you guys think about priorities at the moment in that sense? I'm not too worried about it personally as I have magic as well. They seem best utilized on people actually attacking with weapons most often.
Of course, given 35gp is the purchase cost of a +1 potency rune, everyone could theoretically get one with our current party funds - it would just take a few days.
Runes aside, if there are other thoughts for the use of crafting time, I'm open to ideas!
Enara Etcheberry
I think one thing I'd like to do is work on forging documents for everyone to let us operate at night. Best way to do that is to get a copy or at least let me get a decent look at some real ones. Is that something our tengu team can help out with? Or should I go out and steal one myself?
Lucius Baradayne
So, now that we have downtime and things, I can craft stuff, and move around runes! Unfortunately, I won't be able to craft magical items until next level when the Magical Crafting feat becomes available to me, but it's still useful.
I'd still like to get that striking rune if nobody has any issues with it.
Enara Etcheberry
Do we have a striking rune? I thought we had 2 potency runes. I'd take one either way, if nobody objects. :P
Jilvinirri.
Definitely second the desire for forgery materials, that's going to be a tactic Jilvi relies on heavily.
Jilvi also prefers not to fight with weapons, so she doesn't need any runes either
Emarel Aelavir
We have a +1 striking whip and 2 +1 potency runes! So, I can give Lucius and Enara both a +1 on their weapons. Additionally, I can transfer the runes from the whip to something else if desired, although I thought that perhaps Jilvi would like to hold on to that for now.
Jilvinirri.
I'm happy to keep the whip, but frankly as Jilvi levels up she's going to be relying more and more on her spells, since she'll get both divine and arcane magic from her Sorcerer dedication. Those runes would be put to much better use on Lucius' or Enara's weapons.
Enara Etcheberry
Oh, right! I forgot that you can pull runes off of weapons that already have them and switch them around. I love that.
Emarel Aelavir
Yeah, that makes sense, Jilvi. Good news is that I can do the transfer at any time so whenever you feel like you don't want/need them anymore, I can take care of it.
I agree Enara, it's a really awesome feature! Makes it actually viable to hold onto weapons that have a meaning, or make use of loot no one will otherwise use.
Past these first two +1 upgrades to Lucius and Enara, another +1 potency runestone will cost 35gp, should anyone want it (Til's rapier, Enara's dagger(s), my bow, Hemdar's dagger if you're feeling particularly combatant).
I'll do it in order of post, so Lucius on the current day of downtime, and then Enara's rapier the next. I will have to hold on to the weapon while this happens, just fyi.
GM Down with Thrune!
1 person marked this as a favorite.
I will suggest that in Enara's case she may want invest in buying doubling rings instead of getting multiple magic weapons. Transferring runes only takes one day and costs 10% of the value of runes being transferred, so it's a super useful ability.
Hemdar
Cool! Doubling rings seem pretty good. :)
As a heads up, I've got finals next week so I should probably be studying instead of posting.
Hemdar will spend downtime gathering information, and his Diplomacy modifier is +6.
Enara Etcheberry
Yay!
GM Down with Thrune!
Hey all, I think we're gonna have Tilorean chill at the Wasp's Nest for the time being. His player has been absent from the forums for the past few weeks in some games and about a month in others. I don't think I will go through re-recruitment or anything as of yet, just in case he shows back up.
Thankfully 2e encounters are easy to adjust (thank you Jason ♥) so I will be running encounters according to how many active players are present at the location. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and genuinely no shade at Til, but please let me know if you have an extended leave of absence. I know life can really get in the way of silly forum games but I just want to make sure I'm not excluding someone from a segment when they're only a few days from returning.
GM Down with Thrune!
Sorry to bombard with posts, but I went ahead and made some updates to the loot sheet so that we have a running total of everyone's individual money on hand. I subtracted the 15gp from the half-plate / chainmail exchange for Lucius and I have Enara at 0 because she already did purchases and threw her remaining gold under her alias.
If anyone else has made purchases already or added their gp to their sheet than feel free to just make a note here of what and how much.
Emarel Aelavir
Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully Til and family are doing better.
On the topic of extended absences, I'm not gone, despite having not posted for a bit - just using the in character seclusion time for a bit of a reprieve to catch up and deal with irl things.
On the note of gear, if no one has any objections, while Til is away I wouldn't mind hanging on to that wand for the extra AC. In the case of Tilorean's return, I shall return it.
Did you already subtract the crafting costs for the rune transfer as well? I guess from either me or Lucius, doesn't really matter.
GM Down with Thrune!
I have not, actually. Are you just adding the +1 potency or are you moving both the +1 and the striking from the whip? Far as I can tell transferring happens kind of all at once.
Emarel Aelavir
Just the +1 potency rune for now, until such time Jilvi decides she doesn't need/want the whip. At least, that was my understanding.
Emarel Aelavir
Okay, well, in that case I guess I'm transferring both runes from the whip to the sword!
Running into a slight issue is the rules wording of the transfer of multiple runes. It makes it really unclear whether or not one can transfer a whole +1 striking from one weapon to a complete non-magical one. So, however you'd like to rule that, GM. And of course, if I need to make another crafting check or take more time for the complications.
GM Down with Thrune!
Your 19 Crafting check is actually just enough for a level 4 item, so we'll just move it along together. It'll be 10 gp for the pair (normally 35 gp and 65 gp), I would assume that would come out of Lucius's funds but that is between you guys :)
Tilorean Vashnarstill
Hey.
First, I owe everyone apologies for vanishing without a word. I've come back to try to apologize for doing so, and to let you know that I have no idea when I'll be able to meaningfully return.
That's as far s anyone needs to read. If you're curious, you are free to keep going, though.
Why did I vanish? My wife had started an evaluation of her knees, scheduled to run for about 2 months. First appointment was on a Monday. Late that same Thursday we were told the evaluation was over and they were going to schedule her for a full knee replacement in her worse leg. We found out that next Monday that surgery was that Thursday, a week after we were told she would be having surgery.
I took some sick leave to help her through the surgery and earliest recovery stages. I've been working half days, taking sick leave for the rest, for the past couple of weeks, trying to keep her from doing too much with the live-in grand kids and doing her exercises, with only partial luck.
She's doing her exercises while I type, and the grand kids are down for their naps. Today is going to be the last day I PLAN to do the half-day thing. Thing is, even having been home so much more than normal, I've been going non-stop. We were two weeks past her surgery before I even got into the office where my computer sits, and we're over three weeks past it now and I've had to steal the time to let people know what's going on.
I don't know how long it will be before I can reasonably expect the leisure time to properly contribute to these games again. I am sorry for vanishing, but I have to focus on my wife's actual needs before I play.
Game specific:
I have been wanting to experience this story, too. But, I need to keep my priorities straight, and I don't see things changing enough for me to give you guys an honest contribution any time soon. I really am sorry.
GM Down with Thrune!
Hey Til, happy to hear from you. I genuinely hope things get better for you and your family and that you're able to get some rest yourself (not even just to post here, just because that sort of stress is exhausting).
For now we'll just go ahead and leave Til at the Wasp's Nest in a passive role, and if you're able to come back later we can catch you up. Thanks so much for the heads up and best of luck with everything!
Emarel Aelavir
Like our GM said, genuinely just hope for the best for you and your family. It takes precedence over games for sure. We'll be here if/whenever you're ready to return to rebelling against the government!
Enara Etcheberry
Still here, just waiting to see what other folks want to do.
Emarel Aelavir
Sorry for being the rate limiting step at the moment - the household has been down with the sickness since last Thursday, and not the good kind. Considering I'm feeling alright enough to actually go in to work today, I will post to get things moving along again.
Enara Etcheberry
No worries, I was just effectively bumping the thread, don't want you to feel like I was scolding you or anything!
