He then points his Wand of Magic Missile at the purple one and fires off a Missile at it.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
GM Valen |
Sorry for the delay folks. Between my schedule and Paizo's web issues, I was unable to post, but that hopefully those will not be issues again.
Xusius knows that the darkmantles are able to grab and constrict their prey. As a defense, the creatures can create a supernatural area of utter darkness, which they are just as apt to use offensively to catch prey unawares. Can cast darkness once per day.
BOTTING Seeobonickk - Hope all is well and that you are able to make speedy recovery.
The gnome believes he dropped his weapons while passing through the last cavern and heads back to get them.
Move action.
Xusius looks for one of the darkmantles that have gone into hiding.
Xusius, Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Catching a good glimpse at the nearest one (purple), he sinks a magical bolt into the creature and giving his allies help in spotting the hiding creature.
Sarzuket, Perception w/aid from Xusius: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
The other approaching darkmantle (red) breaks out of its hiding place and rushes hungrily at the nearest newcomer--Kuti.
However, the cat and the gnome cleric are ready for it. The cat rips into the creature's soft membrane, while the gnome zaps it and its companion with electricity.
Sarzuket, Perception w/aid from Xusius: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20
Though wounded, the darkmantle (red) attempts to grab its prey.
Melee (slam) v. Kuti: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
It is unsuccessful and now vulnerable.
Aldran is up!
To speed things up, I am also posting the darkmantle (purple's) action, which will only take effect if it is able to do so after Aldran's turn. All PCs may now post.
Seeing its fellow in distress, the other darkmantle files toward Kuti, attempting to grab the big cat.
Purple moves one square closer to Kuti and thus is now adjacent
Melee (slam) v. Kuti: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
It fails.

BOTTING Aldran - No post in 24+ hours
Aldran considers how to handle this new threat.
Delay.
A darkmantle (purple) swoops toward the big cat, but is unsuccessful.
As the cleric and a gnome move toward the fray, the other gnome misses a darkmantle with cold magic, though just barely. The druid, too, fails to strike the darkmantle.
But while the humanoids falter the feline finishes, its claws and teeth making short work of one of the darkmantles (red).
The elf places a force bolt into the remaining darkmantle (purple).
Rounds 1-3: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 2) = 13
As the fight rages, Round Mountain continues moving erratically around you. The remaining darkmantle (purple) suddenly plunges the area around it into magical darkness, masking its movement.
The illumination level in the area drops to total darkness. All creatures gain total concealment (50% miss chance) in darkness. Creatures with darkvision can see in the area without penalty. Nonmagical sources of light, such as torches and lanterns, do not increase the light level in an area of darkness/

GM Valen |
The dwarf, though slower to attack than his allies, is more decisive with his blows. With a single swing of his mighty ax, the Pathfinder clefts the last darkmantle (purple) in two.
Despite it's grizzly end, the darkness creates by the darkmantle still remains. Round Mountain continues to shift.

BOTTING - Xusius and Flaith - No post in 24+ hours
Xusius and Flaith stand their ground.

The cavern around you within Round Mountain begins to shake as the entire mountain rotates now with such force that it threatens to throw you all to the ground!

Though most of the party are able to maintain their footing during the violent quake, Xusius, Aldran, and Flaith are tossed loose! Now across the bridge, the dwarf collapses upon the ichor of his recent kill.
The elven wizard and human paladin, however, still close to the edge of the chasm find themselves falling.
Xusius, Reflex (DC 11): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Flaith, Reflex (DC 11): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Quick to react, the two Pathfinders avoid plummeting into the chasm below.
With the darkmantles defeated, the party readily proceeds to the Pagoda of the Rat. This seven-story structure is the ratfolk's stronghold and seat of power at the center of Round Mountain. Here you are introduced to Krella, a druid and the leader of the ratfolk, who wears an expression of gratitude upon seeing the Pathfinders arrive and provides the Pathfinder repair team with detailed directions to the Astral rift nearby.
As you prepare to depart, Krella speaks in a whisper, “While we wait for the repair team, I must caution you. We ratfolk have many eyes and ears in the tapestry. Your old enemies, the Aspis Consortium, have poisoned many of the tapestry’s people against you, but I sense that something far more sinister lurks just out of reach. Someone— or something—is at work in the tapestry, and has taken great effort to remain hidden. I fear that this is just the beginning of our trouble.”

GM Valen |
Where to next, Pathfinders?
GM Valen |
You arrive through a tapestry portal in what appears to be a cavern beneath the fortress of Slave Mountain. Incoherent murmurs and groans echo through this large, dark cave. Tall stalagmites emerge from the cave floor surrounded by shallow pools of water. Ahead, a dim purplish light emanating from a multifaceted black gemstone the size of a human skull illuminates several humanoid forms heaped around the stone.
These natural stone caves are dark, except for dim light in a 20-foot radius around the gemstone. The ceilings are 20 feet high.

The gaunt-looking duergar (yellow) gives out a deep, guttural cry, resembling more of a groan than an alarm. Slowly, it lumbers toward the party.
Another of the duergar (red) does not express concern with the newly-arrived party, but instead, brandishing a scourge, he focuses upon the slumped captives lying around the gemstone. He kicks one hard enough to roll it closer to the glowing, black jewel.

During surprise round
Aldran lumbers froward watching the movements of the Duegar to see if they are undead as well.
Aldran, Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Aldran identifies only the gaunt duergar as undead. It is a zombie and based upon its condition, he surmises that someone or something has partially restored the soul of one of the duergar's former leaders. Such a creature has slow reflexes, but is resistant to most forms of damage. However, it could be brought down with a good blade stroke.
Zombie has DR 5/slashing and staggered quality, meaning that it can take a move or standard action only each round although it can also charge.
Spurred on by the druid's magic, the large cat tears into the gaunt duergar.

@ Flaith - No enemy is within 5 feet (perhaps you were looking at the wrong map?) Instead, unless you state otherwise, as the nearest opponent can be reached with a charge, I will treat your action as a charge and take the first attack.
The cleric rushes forward and puts an end to the unholy existence of the duergar zombie.
The duergar with the scourge (red), realizing that the party cannot be ignored and won't be dispatched quickly, draws a crossbow and fires it at the oncoming cleric.
