BOTTING Rose-5 and Deger
Rose-5 and Deger prepare to leap, as soon as some of the pillars clear!
Deger Athletics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Rose-5 Athletics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Before leaping, Rose-5 offers jumping tips to Tyus. "Don't look down, that will throw you right back in the lava. Look OUT and ahead! And use the cable as a guideline."
Rose-5 Athletics Aid Another Tyus: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
GM Hmm |
Smek makes it to the fast treadmill, which allows Smek to move at double the speed! As Smek is on the conveyer belt, he notices a pressure plate trap.
Once the pillars start to clear, Deger and Rose-5 make the first leap easily!
You can try to trigger it, skip over it, or disable it.
There is nothing significant between the two conveyor belts, so characters can move between them if they desire. The fast one moves at 2x speed; the slow one moves at 1.5x speed.
Deger Skyhammer |
Full of confidence after making the first, longest, jump, Deger tries again.
Athletics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
He barely makes it and isn't quite as confident for the next one.
Athletics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
But he makes it.
Zo! |
"Dwarf hopping! I love it! Look at 'em go on those stubby legs. Does anyone have popcorn? Oh wait. I'm undead! But I think this occasion deserves popcorn anyways!"
Zez'ka |
Zez'ka continues to leap across the pillars and onto the fast conveyor belt.
Athletics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
When she reaches the pressure plate trap she attempts to hop over it.
Athletics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Smek Skytower |
Smek takes advantage of the extra speed the track gives him scampering along as quick as he can, while maintaining some caution. Calling out the trapped square as he leaps over it.
Athletics/Jump trap running start: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 +1 for Traps
GM Hmm |
The automated tracks end at a transparent tunnel that opens into a large, domed room with a floor of polished wood planks, providing an easy sprint to the checkered finish line. Smek notices concealed lasers in the hallway that will fire upon whoever enters here, filling the area with a web of searing rays.
Since you noticed them, Smek, do you want to disable them, or just try to roll me an acrobatics to dance through them at full speed?
EVERYONE is up!
Rose-5 |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
When the trap went off, the electricity damage didn't seem to phase Rose-5 that much. It did, however, cause her braids of metallic hair to hover in the air for a moment. "This is far from the first time I've accidentally shocked myself. It is one of the dangers of teaching yourself how to create electrical systems. She quickly grounds herself and let the buildup leave her body before offering help to Tyus and leaping across pillars as described in the botting.
Once Tyus makes it across too, she says to her, "There we go. The finish line is just up ahead. Watch your step on the conveyor belt, and keep your eyes sharp for last-minute surprises. For example it seems that people are hopping over a spot on this conveyor belt, so there is probably a trap there."
Rose-5 leaps over the pressure plate.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Meanwhile, Falcon hovers in the air a little bit behind Tyus, keeping an eye on his new friend.
Deger Skyhammer |
Deger moves onto the moving platform nearest him then switches over to the faster one. "Vork smarter, not harder. Another of my Aiti's favorite sayings."
I think I did the conveyer right. On the faster one a move action is 40 feet instead of 20 yes?
GM Hmm |
Yep, 40 feet instead of 20!
Smek Skytower |
Engineering/Disarm: 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 4 = 19 +4 toolkit
"Hold up, there's lasers rigged to light up the hallway. Not so much flashy, as searing pain." He takes a quick moment to pull out his tools and sets to disabling the trap.
I have a re-roll if needed.
GM Hmm |
Smek disables the laser trap, once again clearing the path for the rest of his party to run through!
Smek Skytower |
"Hall is safe, let's make for the finish line... How's the competition Zo!?"
Smek hustles across the hall and dome, keeping an eye out for any last minute surprises.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 +1 for traps in 10'
Zez'ka |
Zez'ka continues to zip along the rapid conveyor belt, then makes a mad dash for the finish line, ending up just a few steps short.
"Exciting!"
GM Hmm |
I'm just going to move us all forward...
With all the obstacles out of the way, the whole party makes it to finish line!
A dozen hovering camera drones buzz past, capturing the action from as many angles as possible. “Our first contestant crosses the finish line!” Lethea's technologically magnified voice booms through the air as Smek dashes across the line. A sardonic chuckle filters through the speakers as Quell adds, “The living never cease to amaze me. Do you think the other team has what it takes, Lethea?” Not missing a beat, Lethea responds, “Stay tuned to Pact World Warriors to find out! We'll be right back after these messages from our sponsors.”
Poshkettle Tea |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Gentle Sentients, after a hard day on the obstacle course, you should take time for you. Enjoy a soothing cup of Poshkettle Tea! Or perhaps you would like to try our newest offering, Poshkettle Coffee, available in a variety of flavors, including Eoxian Black! Poshkettle Tea always hits the spot!
GM Hmm |
Shortly after Smek goes across, you hear about Mia and Tillik crossing, followed seconds later by Shonvyzam along with the rest of the Starfinder Seven. Then a buzzer sounds and Quell announces the end of the first challenge: “Aaaaand time! You tried your best, Rivals, and I can taste that delicious disappointment you're feeling, but don't worry! That was only round one.”
Lethea breathily announces, "We'll get Rafelo and Verity extracted from the muck soon! The score stands at 70 for the Starfinder Seven and 45 for the Rivals!"
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
When the challenge ends, production staff escorts you back to their break room for a 30-minute rest before the second event.
Opening up for a little RP, and then I move you into the next challenge tomorrow.
Zo! |
As you pass by Zo!, he's shaking his head and mutters to himself as you go by. "Poshkettle Tea... Seriously? That's a sponsor of our show now? I should have never made that pink-haired pixie a star..."
Smek Skytower |
Smek whispers to Zo!, "Yeah, tea? You may need to have some conversations with your advertising team... This is beer and snacks slot!"
Smek perks up hearing the team bet the Rivals, "Ooo… So sorry, at least you came in second..." Smek gives a slick smile, "In a two team race." Grinning broadly, he offers a paw again "Still not to late to have more fun and less aggression. Good luck in the next event?", he moves to Verity and helps her clean muck off, "No reason we can't help between challenges."
Any chance to 'make friends' with the Rivals? Smek's going to keep offering.
Frank Gulp |
Frank hustles across the line. When making the end he pulls out his c-gar and waves to the camera. "Who knew retirement would be s'fun!
Zez'ka |
As they're hustled off after the race Zez'ka waves to the cameras. "Greetings soon to be friends!"
After a few more moments she exclaims, "Oh, this is very exciting! I love a good race! So... what's going on? Curious!"
Rose-5 |
In response to Zo!'s whisper, Rose-5 speaks at her normal volume, "I quite like Poshkettle tea. I haven't tried their Eoxian black though. I typically go for their herbal varieties. I first bought their rosehip tea because it said Rose in big letters on the box so it caught my attention. That is not a rational reason to make a purchase, however, I enjoyed the tea so it was worth my credits in retrospect. I am not saying that I endorse irrational purchasing in general. Can we get some free Poshkettle for being on this show?"
Spinning Falcon performs the little jingle from another Poshkettle commercial in a series of robotic tones.
She says to Zez'ha, "I too am curious. Whatever else happens next, I expect it will be dangerous. Zo! and his team are creative with their challenges. It is good training for our future missions."
Zez'ka |
"Oh, my! How exciting!" Zez'ka offers her hand to Rose-5, and comes in suuuuuper close, stroking Rose-5 with her antennae. After a few moments she lets out a trill and steps back. "Wonderful to meet you Rose-5! I am thrilled to become your near and dear friend and ally! I sincerely hope you do not get eviscerated on our dangerous and surprising venture!" With a clack of her mandibles she exclaims, "Hopeful!"
Rose-5 |
Rose-5 says to Zez'ka, "Yes, I would like to be friends with you. You are very straightforward. I appreciate that. Most people hide away their feelings, expect me to guess, and then get angry when I do not guess correctly."
To Deger, Rose-5 says, "Ah, that's right. We did not ask it there would be a prize for victory before starting this contest. That was an oversight. However, if this is in keeping with my knowledge of standard Starfinder Society protocols, if this game does not pay us, then the Starfinder Society will compensate us instead."
GM Hmm |
Rafelo thanks Smek, but then says, "I have only thirty minutes to take a shower, and redo my hair!" He rushes off.
Moxie and the others walk right past Smek. "You got the lead on us here, but we'll rule in the next competition!"
Verity sighs. “They’re not as bad as they seem. They just are so serious about winning. But you’ll win them over soon, I’m sure!” She hugs you all, and goes to clean up herself.
Zo! |

Zo! gestures to the stack of Poshkettle Tea packets in the break room. “You want samples of Poshkettle Tea? Oh, please! Take it all away!”
Then the entertainer straightens his bow tie. “Who’s ready for combat cooking?”
GM Hmm |
Thirty minutes later, a suited ghoul hustles you out of your rest area and back to the elevators at the end of the hallway, a skeletal camera crew following in their wake.
The lift opens to reveal a pristine jungle. Ferns carpet the ground beneath towering trees. Birds and insects flit through shafts of artificial sunlight. Only the transparent green dome overhead breaks the illusion of leaving Eox behind for a lush, living world. Stone walls artfully constructed to look like ancient ruins frame an odd scene: twin kitchens complete with stainless steel countertops and electric cooking ranges stand amid the wilderness. To the west, a cerulean pool laps gently in the artificial breeze.
“Welcome to the Combat Cooking Extravaganza!” Quell calls from his perch atop a floating metal disc. The disc zooms toward the kitchens as he speaks. “First, our contestants order their live ingredients. This isn't as simple as ordering takeout at home, folks,” Quell smirks as canned laughter plays through the speakers.
“I'm afraid not,” Lethea calls from an identical disc nearby. “These chefs are working with fresh, wild-caught ingredients. Contestants, I'm sending a recipe to your comm units. Collect your ingredients, then head to the kitchen to craft us a dish worthy of a Pact World Warrior!”
“But be warned,” Quell says. “This kitchen might be packing more heat than you can handle.”
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
The set consists of a 50-foot-high domed chamber that acts as a greenhouse for the imported flora and fauna brought in specifically for filming this episode of Pact World Warriors. This challenge has two phases: combat and cooking. Teams “order” their ingredients during the combat phase by defeating and butchering each of the tagged creatures. After they defeat each of the creatures, they then proceed to the cooking phase, where they butcher the slain creatures and at a nearby field kitchen where they must prepare a meal incorporating their ingredients.
★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★
Beep!
As you check your comm units, you see the words: ‘Red’, ‘Green’ and ‘Blue.’ As you look out into this jungle you notice animals wandering around with colored tags.
What ‘ingredients’ do you order first?
GM Hmm |
Just as Deger points out the Verimu, the Verimu notices the group, and makes an angry and challenging "SQURAWWK!"

"Combat. Cooking." Smek looks dubious as the rules are provided. "Is the other team hunting in the same... Kitchen? As us?"
"A bit of fowl it is." As the Verimu comes into view Smek dashes into the under brush, using the natural cover to help hide his shots. He draws his arc pistol as he moves.

Zez'ka |
Zez'ka beams at Rose-5. "Oh, Friend-Rose-5, you have made me very happy! Elated! JOYFUL!" She wraps Rose up in a big hug, stroking her with her antennae again. Then she pulls back and claps her hands. "Hugs can change the world, you know. I once stopped a robot invasion with the power of hugs, kindness, and affection. Also, companions with many guns." She nods wisely. "Proud!"
----
So overwhelmed is she at these delightful choices, Zez'ka takes AGES to make up her mind. She positively vibrates with excitement! Eventually she nods her head at Deger. "Starfinders stick together! Red bird it is, Friend-Deger!"
Zez'ka dashes forward, twitching and jerking around erratically -- looking a lot like a character in a glitching holovid game. Suddenly she flails around, thrusting her body one way and her arms the other, as she fires her tactical pistol at the bird from a very unconventional angle! "SURPRISE!"

Unfortuantely, the bird, (being awkward and uncoordinated itself), does not look surprised in the least...
GM Hmm |
"Combat. Cooking." Smek looks dubious as the rules are provided. "Is the other team hunting in the same... Kitchen? As us?"
Smek's question is answered as a medium-sized dinosaur with a black tag bolts in front of your group, with both Moxie and Tillik crashing after it. "YOU STUPID DINO!" Moxie shouts, scowling at all of you, before stumbling forward again.
As they run past, both Smek and Zez'ka take a shot at the Verimu. Smek's shot strikes true, while Zez'ka's goes wild.

Both Smek and Zez'ka make their shots, and the bird goes down.
Frank, your attack and Survival rolls are the same. Would you like to use that previous roll to butcher the bird? With your survival skill, you quickly realize that every round that goes by without butchering can cause you to lose some quality to the meat.
(In this scenario, anyway.)

I didn't see any mention of difficult terrain so this action assumes there is none. If that's not true I will try again.
Seeing the other non-bug menu item about to bolt Deger curses his short legs once again. He then rushes towards the animal wildly, demonstrating the reason his people aren't known as great woodsmen usually. He makes sure to hold his pike tightly during his mad dash.
Full action to run. I think that's 75 feet of movement.
Rose-5 |
In response to Zez'ka, "Hugs can change the world, huh? Well, they are pleasantly warm, at least." Rose-5 hugs Zez'ka back.
When the contest starts, Rose-5 says, "Cooking contest? Good, all that lava jumping made me hungry. Hopefully we'll get to taste our creations. And hopefully one of you knows how to cook." She chuckles to herself. "I can hunt, and fix the ovens if something goes wrong."
Rose-5 and Falcon take their shots at the green-tagged herd animal to stop it from running away. But first, let's see if she knows what it is.

Falcon spins a bit from the kickback of the massively failed shot, making a disappointed sound.
Tyus |
Tyus whirls around, taking everything in. What an excellent set—feels like a real jungle!
She's clearly disappointed at the relative lack of fearsomeness of these creatures, and seems utterly perplexed by all the talk of hugs. Regardless, she begins manipulating her hands, still holding her comm unit in one, and flings several magic missiles at long range toward the green-tagged beastie.
magic missile (full action): 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 4, 2) + 3 = 12
GM Hmm |
Degus runs as fast as his short dwarvish legs can carry him to the green tagged beastie. Rose-5 identifies it as an Uzorg, a herd animal that loves to bolt into water and then hide there, but both her shot and Tyus's magic missile brings it down before it could dart away!
Meanwhile, you all hear sounds of shooting as Verity and Rafelo attempt to shoot at some giant bug thing. You also hear a ripping sound as the coccoon rips and blue-tagged aberation spills out. It looks a little like a dog or a lion -- only with blue tentacles ridged around its head in lieu of a mane. It sniffs the air, and snarls as it starts leaping towards you. It ends its movement leaping into the cover of the tree above Rose-5 with a soft rustle of leaves.
