"No, I am no good with locks. But, I did bring a crowbar though...who wants it?" He says dropping his bag and pulling out said crowbar.
| GM PaleDim |
Okay, sounds like a strategy is forming. Let me know which way you're going and I'll let you know how much damage you do to the door or lock.
Desynthia Medzen
|
Desinthia aims at the lock, and cast a quick spell. A small orb of acid forms in her hand, and she shoots at the lock. After a few errant strikes, the white haired sorceress aiming got better, but it's a slow process
Not sure if you want me to roll something, to hit a small unmoving target (vs Touch AC). Dmg is 1d3 per blob
| GM PaleDim |
At 1d3 per go, that method is never going to overcome hardness of the object.
Erica 'Bobbie' Zufan
|
Desynthia starts splashing the lock with acid, seemingly to no effect. A minute later, Erica finally breaks the silence:
"We're going to be here all day. Let's just try the crowbar."
Desynthia Medzen
|
Hey, that was worth a try...Erica.
Desynthia skulks after Bobbie's remark.
You're pretty sure she used Erica's name on purpose.

| GM PaleDim |
what about the wood? could it affect the wood? I know it sounds noobish...but can't hurt to ask?
both the door proper and an object such as the lock and handle kit are going to have a hardness, and it's rarely below 5. Energy damage bypasses DR, but not hardness. SO, if somebody has high level spells that do more energy damage, you could make it work. However, you may not wish to to use up precious spell slots on a locked door :)
I'll go ahead and let you in on: there is a hazard behind the door but it's going to be no worse for breaking through the door. So, let the bashing begin. :) I'll move us forward this evening (with the equivalent of take-whatever against the door), but feel free to RP and roll some attacks against it in the meantime.
| GM PaleDim |
A strength check and door beating montage later...
Finally the door gives to the numerous, loud beatings and the team breaks through.
Two stone altars, one black and one white, sit at either end of this large chamber, which takes up two wings of the tower on this level. The crumbling remains of wooden benches sag in front of each altar beneath rotting ceiling tapestries. Carved symbols and writings snake along the walls. The burnt corpses of two troglodytes lie on the floor in the center of the room.
Two human skeletons, flames enveloping their heads, instantly move forward, obviously having gathered at the door for all the noise.

There will be an heated confrontation, for sure!
We've just found the bone of contention!
Don't forget your manners, Paffies: when you encounter a skeleton for the first time, say simply "Nice to meat you!"
Going into missions all over the world can be a risky business. But it doesn't have to be dull, or without fun.
If you like that kind of wisecracking fun, of course.

Theron dropse the rowbar and with one fluid motion(for his size, anyways), he draws his morningstar in both meaty hands and swings it at the closest skeltonred.

lol, np at all. Erica, are you willing to retcon a different move and let him occupy that square to use his good roll? Alternative: try some acrobatics checks to move through threatened squares and get in behind anyway.
| GM PaleDim |
Cool, pardon me while I move the tokens around to account for this...
Theron steps through the door 5' step and smashes the first red skeleton that was on the other side of the wall. Its bones make a satisfying clattering as they drop to the ground, inert and harmless.
Erica dashes by Theron, and the remaining skeleton takes a swipe at her as she goes!
claw attack vs. Erica: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (10) - 3 = 7
It's slow to react and misses her horribly. So, your miss on the acrobatics score didn't matter. Let's hope that it further chews through your bad luck :)
Silas is up. I'll give him until tomorrow morning to post and then if he hasn't I'll bot to move us along.

Silas draws and reloads his crossbow two move actions.
The remain skeleton glares at Theron, who just destroyed his battle companion, swiping both of its claws at him. two claws, full action

Claw 2 vs Theron, S damage: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Theron dodges the first claw, and right as he resets the second slams into his armor but clatters away uselessly.
The whole party is up to finish round 1 and begin round 2. FINISH HIM!
| GM PaleDim |
The last skeleton clatters to the ground. The temporary annoyance ended.
Out of combat initiative.
What next Pathfinders?

Ulis identifies this room as a temple dedicated to Nethys, the god of magic, in both of his aspects: protection and destruction. The writings on the walls are quotes from Nethys’s holy book.
Ulis sees a third pile of bones, and gathers that two troglodytes fell afoul of the skeletons that you've just beaten after destroying only one of what started as a trio. Given that their bodies are badly burnt, they didn't fair so well against them as you did. Based on you finding the door locked, it seems that the recently inhabiting troglodyte tribe might have given up on this floor and sealed it.
Ulis' perception roll was fairly low, does anybody else want to try before you return to the stairwell to ascend again?

Yowza. Let's really hope the RNG is saving up for next combat...
The party heads back to the stairs and heads up one flight. This time, they find the door onto the floor proper unlocked...
Crude bunks line the walls of this room, which is filled with the nauseating stench of troglodytes. You immediately see the source of this is three troglodytes, having just gotten up from rest on crude sleeping mats on the floor!
You are sickened for 10 rounds.

Hmm, looks like I got my fort saves than I needed. Recall it was just: Theron, Ulis, and Silias. It doesn't look like this would have saved any of the missed hits though.
The troglodytes notice the sickness in some members of the group, grinning at the party and jeering, however ineffectively, in another language.
They immediately begin slashing and thrashing at the adventurers in front of them, in a savage frenzy! Their barking and shrieking is almost unbearable!
As they are doing this the left-most trog takes a careful step around Bobbie's side.

red bite vs. Bobbie, P damage: 1d20 ⇒ 81d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
The right trog focuses on Theron, barely getting one claw under the seams of his armor, but only for a minor scratch 1 damage. Its other claw and bite miss wildly. The middle one starts slashing at him as well, and physically connects but finds nothing but sheer armor surface. Frustrated it turns to bite at Bobbie, but it's clumsy in the pivot and misses her wide. The final trog on the left focuses on Erica, but having been primed by the middle one she's dancing around efficiently and it cannot land a claw on her.
By this time Theron and Bobbie have been showered with the angry spittle of the frothing young troglodytes. Verily, their emotional fervor outstrips their effectiveness... If only they could live another day to improve.
Theron gets the feeling if they get lucky and land claws on him or Bobbie, they could swing the tide in short order...

This would be knowledge (local), if anybody has it. Honestly though, I don't think you're going to reveal any weaknesses that will help beyond just bashing at them until you land hits :)
Silas begins a chant while his beefier teammates try to return swipes at the troglodytes. What they lack for in strength, they make up in agility, as they bob about dodging slashes from Bobbie and Theron. They get a little cocky and arch their backs to let the blades thrust through their space without harming them. They get a bit serious again when Desynthia's crossbow bolt flies through their area, less willing to show off as they competently avoid it.
The two to the right shift around a bit before they continue their slashing at the front-line Pathfinders.
