DM-Camris' IRONFANG INVASION Chapter 1: Trail of the Hunted

Game Master Camris

Part 3: CRADLED IN STONE
The refugees need a place to call home, however temporarily, and it needs to be somewhere secure.
A set of caves in the area offers multiple opportunities, including concealment, food, and water, in addition to some wealth.
Aubrin vaguely remembers a troglodyte tribe called the Children of Stone that often harassed—and feasted upon—Chernasardo Rangers in the area during her time. Aubrin recalls the creatures—and their secure home—and asks the party to investigate the location as a possible long-term home.

Hi guys! You were correct! I had not seen that I had been selected. I am honored to be among you. I will do my best to write at your level.

Let’s have fun!

Darry was at the battle where the ironfang legion pretty much decimated the unit he was a messenger in. Only the quick paws of his companion kept them from being part of the butcher's tally. :)

Any idea when this campaign will be moving forward?

Also, GM, I still need to stat up my animal companion! This last week was really busy with my conference but I should be able to tackle it this weekend.

OK EVERYONE!

I'm going to be using Roll20 maps.

If you go there and make some comments in the chat box about who you are, I should be able to hook your character icon to your chat name and you will be able to move your icons around yourself.

Arlen: I understand about busy. Get to it when you can, we can improv stats until then.

So I know this is coming out of left field, but could we use Google Slides for maps instead? I imagine you may have put a lot of work into them already, so maybe it is a no go. However, roll20 is simply unusable from mobile devices (especially phones) which is where I post from about 98% of the time. If you can't make the switch, I can try to use my tablet. But I won't be able to update the map when I don't have it with me or can't pull it out.

---

In other news I am (foolishly?) Optimistic about being able to build my AC tonight.

I’ll wind up at the taproot

OK, Sor, Faerith and Yaron have been placed in the Taproot Inn map. See if you can move them around.

Arlen: Sorry man, but Roll20 maps are too useful to give up that way.
I have seen ads for aps for Roll20 for Android or Ipad tablets, so there is hope for you yet.

Roll20 for Android:

Roll20 for ipad:

Unfortunately, they are low rated for reliability and polish at the moment.

I'll see what I can get with "Request Desktop Site"

The mobile app does not do anything related to maps.

With the app I can get to the characater sheets and the chat. On the browser I can get to the discussion boards. But I can't find a way to get to the maps. When I try to go straight there I get the message I quoted above. When I "Request Desktop Site" and try to go to the map it just says it is loading. Forever.

I will try Chrome instead of Firefox.

With Chrome the map does eventually load. Panning and zooming is difficult and randomly stops working (then starts again). I can't tell whether or not it will let me move tokens; when these UIs aren't designed for mobile, they don't usually support touch events at all.

I guess I can ask other players to move my token if/when I can't move it.

Roll20 has a lot of cool features, but it seems to me that pretty much all of them are handled by the Paizo boards in PBP games. What features do you like about it for PbP?

OK, five are in place. Only Big John, Ghosteye and Elandra left to do.

Here is Arlen's animal companion. I went with Megaloceros, as a kind of mega-elk.

Side note, it's really weird to me that Moose(s?) are medium until level 7. Have the game devs never seen an adult moose??

During, Faerieth, and Darry.

I did suggest that everyone put together a bot me spoiler for their profile.

Soon we will find out if my too-late idea to fight defensively would have payed off or been necessary.

Once we can rest somewhere I can take care of a lot of healing with Treat Deadly Wounds. I've got a pretty high heal mod and add extra hp when I do. But at an hour per use I doubt we have time right now.

So I'm just guessing but I'm thinking the way AP's are usually written, there's a meta-reason for Aubrin being to injured to channel and giving her a potion won't fix it.

She's probably level 5 or 6 based on the description and with a group this size access to a cleric that can heal 2 or 3 d6 plus other cleric/ranger spells would be unbalancing.

I get the feeling we have to protect her and everyone else but magical resource -wise we're on our own.

That's why I gave the concoction to Arlen.

Yes, that's right. She said as much in game as well.

Okay, so if we use the CLW on her it won’t matter for us crunchwise. Because John was going to argue to use the scroll on her.

OK, I should mention that an elk or even a great elk (Megalocerous) has no stealth bonus whatsoever; even as an animal companion.
You may train such skill at higher levels though.

It has a +3 dexterity modifier, stealth as a trained skill, and I put 1 rank into stealth. That's 1 rank + 3 class skill + 3 Dex for a total of +7. Even untrained it would have a +3 from dexterity.

Arlen has a rank in geography. I did not think of Lore (Fangwood Forest) but it would make sense for an aspiring Chernasardo Warden. I will probably take a rank next level.

Taking their time and being careful moving with concealment, the whole party meets outside the Riverwood Shrine.

So it this all while Faerieth is patching up Aubrin? I'm assuming it'll take time to remove the bolt and bandage her wounds.

Or did I patch her up while everyone was planning, then join the others heading to the shrine?

Just wanting clarification before I post.
