1d20 ⇒ 2
The guard looks out the arrow slit oblivious to Rinika tinkering with the lock. She doesn't even seem to notice the Bariaur poorly hiding behind a ballista on the nearby platform. Rinika makes no progress with the lock but she doesn't feel like it's beyond her.
Lock DC is 20, also guidance has a verbal component so casting it here would require the guard to fail a DC 1 perception check.
Rinika
Let's forego that guidance then.
Fearlessly, she keeps quiet and tries again.
disable: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

The lock clicks open allowing access inside the tower. Inside bunk beds for 12 sit in various states of unkemptness along with lockers at the foot of each bed. A set of stairs is carved into the wall heading up and down.
Jek Tal'dor
Realizing that he is perhaps somewhat exposed, Jek attempts to blend-in with the ballista and think ballista-like thoughts.
Stealth: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (14) - 2 = 12
Rinika
With a self-satisfied smile, Rinika turns to Akrynn and whispers, "Think we can take the lookout quietly? Can you make her not make a noise?"
Vaascht
Vaascht watches the scouts as best he can, prepared to charge in at the first sign of trouble.
Rinika
Rinika tries to sneak up the stairs to scout out the next level.
Stealth+cloak of darkness-sickened: 1d20 + 9 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 4 - 2 = 18
DM_Delmoth
Yellow: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Blue: 1d20 ⇒ 11
As Rinika and Arkynn plan their attack on the guard on the upper level another walks up from the down the stairs, a stick of jerky mid bite in her mouth. This is when Arkynn's stomach loudly growls and the two guards turn to stare at him in shock.
Initiative, surprise!
Arkrynn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Jek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Combat Map updated Blue is 10 ft up, for some reason there are no stairs indicated on the map. Gonna say the stairs start next to the door by where Rinika is right now.
Nikrir Leldro
can Nik see blue through an arrow slit? :3
'cause if Nik sees the guard's head spin around, Nik is taking the shot >:3
+4 to hit (not counting penalties for taking such a hard shot, is it a bonus to AC for him?) and 1d10 damage :3
DM_Delmoth
Sure you can see the guard turn her attention away from looking for you. She has total cover which is a +8 to AC and reflex saves.
Nikrir Leldro
+8 ac... At least it's within 120' xD
C'mon Nat 20!
Ammo: 19+1->19
Seeing one of the guards turn, Nik takes his shot.
Heavy Xbow vs blue: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
obligatory but probably unneeded damage: 1d10 ⇒ 5
Nik turns to tell Jek, but the bariaur is apparently already aware.
Jek Tal'dor
Jek nods back at Nik and hurries toward the tower.
Double move
Akrynn
Akrynn reacts tracing a Forbid Action Rune in the direction of Blue.
An urban druid can channel stored spell energy into domain spells that she has not prepared ahead of time. She can “lose” a prepared spell in order to cast any domain spell of the same level or lower.
This ability replaces the ability to spontaneously cast summon nature’s ally spells.
Forbid Action: Attack Will DC 14
The druid then steps 5' toward confront Yellow, taking out his masterwork club.
Good call, Nik; adjusted turn for Surprise Round.
Vaascht
As soon as Jek moves forward, Vaascht follows him.
Rinika
Rinika shoots at yellow.
Crossbow attack-sickened-dazzled: 1d20 + 4 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 2 - 1 = 18

Nikrir Leldro
Nik realizes that it's very hard to shoot into arrows slits, and soon follows Jek.

If Rinika had better strength, she'd have spent this found figuring out how hard it is to shove someone OUT of an arrow slit.

Jek rushes through the door and stops just in front of Rinika and Akrynn.
Actual double move this time
Imogen is dead. The other guards surrendered.
DM_Delmoth
Nik’s bolt harmlessly strikes the side of tower but Rinika’s draws blood as it causes a flesh wound on the guard’s forearm.
Will vs Forbid Action: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Arkynn forbids something but the guard is unaffected by his command. Missed declaring what was forbidden again. I’ll assume that he had is club out already because he couldn’t draw it on the surprise round.
Yellow vs Arkynn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Yellow vs Arkynn, confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Blue vs Jek, confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The guard next to Arkynn draws her longsword and stabs through his gut in a grievous wound. The one in the arrow slit cautiously moves down the stairs while taking out her weapon but fumbles the draw wasting valuable time.
Vaascht
Vaascht charges forward after Jek, though not nearly as fast as the large horseman.
double move
DM_Delmoth
Akrynn reacts tracing a Forbid Action Rune in the direction of Blue.

5' step to trap Yellow
Jek attempts to attack one guard with his spear and the other with his horns.
Full Attack w/ Horns as a secondary natural attack
Frost Longspear Attack vs Blue (mw): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 = 24

Horns Piercing (As secondary: 1/2 STR Mod): 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
DM_Delmoth
Rinika makes vomiting motions in the direction of the nearby guard and she focuses her attention that way while Arkynn smashes his club on the woman giving her a nasty concussion. She falls over bleeding from her skull. Jek unceremoniously sends his spear through the other guard's heart killing her instantly.

Vaascht
Mildly dissappointed in the fact that he struck no blows to take the tower and in the non magical nature of the loot they found, the Gith examines everything under the effects of Detect Magic, just in case.
Then he looks to the group, "This seems to be a place we can fortify for a night and rest up. That will let us be ready for the reinforcements they are undoubtedly gathering now. Pushing to clear the hobgoblins out now would give us the advantage of momentum but the disadvantage of expended resources. I am ok with either plan."
Jek Tal'dor
"Let's bring the captured guards here and find that tower key. Were either of these two Willem?"
Jek searches the two dead guards.
Nikrir Leldro
lol, my turn barely even came up in my absence xD
The team's Dustman catches up after the guards have already bitten the dust.
Nik wipes the sweat from his brow as he interjects.
"Finally a place where we can take a break. Did they have water? I'm a bit thirsty after the jaunt through that oven."
DM_Delmoth
If you're doing a full rest can someone give me a watch order? Either here or slide 5 on the map.
Nikrir Leldro
"Maybe take second watch, Akrynn? I want to be up when Skellington comes back."
Nik will order the bloody skeleton to put on the newly acquired heavy steel shield, battleaxe, and chain shirt when he comes back.
Maybe order him to sort/collect some loot too hehehe
Vaascht
Vaascht volunteers for second watch.
DM_Delmoth
During first watch.
1d3 ⇒ 1
Nik Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Arkynn Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Nik sees the hobgoblins lead by a woman in gray robes approach from the "southern" terrace. Their weapons are drawn and are attempting to approach the tower stealthily. Suddenly leaping from the flames is a cat the size of a large bear. It pounces on one of the hobgoblins tearing flesh with claw and charring it at the same time.
If you want to join the battle I can start init.

Before watch begins
Jek picks up the tower key and hands it to Nik.
"I'm a bit short on pockets..."
"Did they have water? I'm a bit thirsty after the jaunt through that oven."
"Several barrels downstairs. They'll be heavy, so let me know if you need anything. We could even set them behind the door to keep it from opening."
He nods at Vaascht.
"Let's team up on the middle watch."
Jek walks toward the door.
"I'm going to go round up those guards so they can eat and sleep here with us. Anyone's welcome to come."
Jek walks to the various platforms and brings them back to the tower.
I'm assuming this will be uneventful.
DM_Delmoth
Nik manages to quench his thirst while Jek herds the captured guards into the tower. Then the 1st watch happens.
Show me planes!
Nik: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Rinika: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Vaascht: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Vaascht and Rinika recall that elementals sometimes take the shape of prime material animals. They tend to be resistant most kinds of damage and immune to fire, while being especially vulnerable to cold. You guessed it DR 5/-, immune to fire and weakness to cold, you also know it has elemental traits.
Nikrir Leldro
@DM_Delmoth: did it happen within the first hour? Or did Skellington have time to come back? :3
Also, are elementals "living creatures"? I might get a -2 on that check (the knowledge (planes) one that I failed either way)
it might matter later, though :3
"I get the feeling that we won't have much trouble with the cat thing, think it needs our help to take out the hobgobs?"
Nik draws his crossbow and then peeks through an arrow slit as he reloads it.
ammo: 19->18+1
move action + full round action (or 2 standard actions)
Vaascht
Having only barely fallen asleep before the commotion started Vaascht groggily looks down at the scene.
"Well, we could flank them and end this now." he says with a big yawn, "or try to rest and do it in a few hours, assuming they don't still try to attack us after they deal with that elemental."
He sighs and slides his scabbarded sword into his belt and awaits the groups decision.
[Ooc]on the one hand we are low on resources, on the other I doubt we'll get rest with this group trying to attack us. The GM kindly have use an elemental distraction/enemy so it might be worth taking advantage of. Or perhaps it will mail them bad enough they'll give up for a bit.[/b]
Looking around, the Gith mutters, "did we find any ballistae here? We could just pelt them with arrows and bolts while they fight the elemental, let them know we know they are out there"
