Odd'n Bloodied-Boulder
I was waiting to see if someone had rope as Odd'n left his @ the bridge. I'll assume they have at least a 50ft length
Catching the rope that had been tossed to him, Odd'n quickly unravels it as he ties into the rope a simple knot every few feet to aid the climber and ties the end to the grappling hook. Within a few minutes he sends it sailing throuh the air and up through the hole in the roof.
Grappling hook: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
After a few quick tugs, putting weight on the line that was surely a little heavier than Gimble, Odd'n nods and hands it off to the little man.
"Goodluck! Knock twice, pause, then twice more on the door if you find your way to the otherside for some reason.."
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Taking 10 is possible. The danger from falling isn't great enough to make it not possible.
The howling starts up again before Odd'n lets loose with the grappling hook. It seems the wolves are taking a break in their harassment.
When Gimble gets to the roof he finds the grounds of the monastery dark and what little light there is plays with trees and towers and shrubs to make shadows everywhere.
I'll need a Perception check from Gimble.
Gimble Strapfellow
"Got one trying to be all sneaky like! Rest of em seem to be in the treeline."
If he has an angle, Gimble readies his crossbow and takes a shot once the wolf is within 30'.
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11 to hit for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 piercing damage
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Gimble's shot misses the wolf. The wolf tears back 10 ft. and then decides it wants to make a run and leap on the roof.
wolf's initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
wolf's jump attempt: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Odd'n Bloodied-Boulder
To those of the party still in the room; "Out past the tree line? Hrmm, I wonder if whatever was making those thuds early chased 'em off. Dare we open the door and see what creeps forth? Gimble has eyes above us so if need be he can tell us when too pull back into the room and re-barricade the door.."
Mirrors can attack from behind me with them long stick weapons, others have magic or some ranged weapon they seem unfamiliar with.. I could maybe hold the line at the door; the big man chews over some thoughts in his head should things turn on them quickly. ..not ideal, but if I stay focused on keeping my parts out of any beasties teeth it might buy us enough time tofinish them off safely..
total defence in door, use girth to block access to rest of party, if we open door/barricade and wolves are there
Turning his attention back to his companions, Odd'n calmly awaits their thoughts despite the sounds of commotion above.
Livlena Verkirk
Liv will go along with whatever plan the party decides on. I'm not a big fan of fighting 3 wolves at once: free trip attack plus an AoO when you try to stand up can wipe out a level 1 party.
I'll be without internet access until Monday afternoon, so the DM can bot Livlena as he sees fit.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
The wolf makes another run and leaps for the roof again.
Gimble didn't roll initiative; the wolf got 19. Depending on the dice result and what happens next, it could be important to know whether the Gimble gets one or two actions before the wolf's next action.
Gotta hit 13 to grab the eave of the roof: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
I know we are going fairly quickly and we promised to take things slow. Let's give Gimble another round or two on the roof before we pause and let everyone in the room downstairs weigh in on other options, such as opening the door.
Gimble Strapfellow
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 initiative
"Well, at least one pooch wants a halfling snack! I think I'm coming back down, post haste."
Gimble moves back towards the hole in the roof, reloading his crossbow as he goes across the roof.
Hendrina Verkirk
Hennie had considered going back to sleep after the noise died down, but she thinks sleeping is actually off the table.
Aside from not opening the door, I've nothing to add. If we have wolves making 13' vertical jumps to grab onto a roof and pull themselves up, I don't know what we do except wait for them to come through the roof. I suppose roughly sort of one at a time is better than three at once, but we're pretty much screwed.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Actually, I think I am wrong about the height of the jump. I was confusing the long jump and high jump rules. I'm going to have to take back that action. The DC for the wolf to get close enough to grab the lip would have been 32. The DC for Gimble to grab the lip of the hole inside would have been over 36 even if he had a running start. These are high ceilings.
Redo, please
The wolf makes a leap that looks promising, and for a minute it grins at Gimble as if she's going to make it, but then she falls to the ground again. Clearly she isn't getting up this way. She starts to run back towards the woods.
Gimble Strapfellow
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 to hit, for 1d6 ⇒ 4 piercing damage.
Add +1 to both to hit & damage if within 30'
"Well, that one's running. I'm coming down, I didn't like that thing trying to jump up here with me!"
He stows his crossbow and carefully climbs back down.
Hendrina Verkirk
Since things seem to be settling down, Hennie finds a comfy spot and goes to sleep.
"Finally! I'm exhausted, it's been a ridiculously long day!"
Tarren the Dungeon Master
The wolves howl once more, as if to prove they still can and then the night becomes the comforting cacophony that accompanies a night on the edge of the forest.
The wolves kept you up. You can wake with dawn, finish here, track down the two other ingredients, and maybe make it back to Falcon's Hollow by nightfall. Or, you can get a full night's sleep but risk not finishing this all before dark.
How do you sleep: Wake early and risk exhaustion or sleep in and risk delay?
Odd'n Bloodied-Boulder
This post should cover Odd'ns immediate actions under whichever direction the party decides to take things.
Keeping an eye on the hole above and straining his ears to listen for any noise outside the barricaded door, Odd'n attends to the beginning of his 2 hour watch while his companions go about discussing their choices for the night, the following day, and what to do about the menacing presence of these wolves.
Perception; while on watch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Okay, it doesn't sound like anyone wants to start a fight if the fight isn't coming in.
The little light that shines on things so deeply in the shadow of the mountains begins to shine through the high narrow windows and the hole in the roof.
None of those who took a turn at watch reports any further harassment by the wolves.
The door to the entrance remains barred shut from the inside, as you left it. The smaller door off of this room has also not been tampered with.
Trom Deoch
"We have not yet found the mushrooms," Trom responds, rising from the bench he had claimed. "There are probably a few corners of this place that will have them that we haven't searched yet. I think I shall follow the lead of our expert trap-finder moving forward, seeing as how my haste almost brought ruin on us yesterday."
Odd'n Bloodied-Boulder
Yawning in agreement, Odd'n stands to stretch before rolling up his sleeping gear and fixing it to his pack. "Well, as the thinner mirror suggested we best get on.."
Perception; Odd'n keeps his guard up as the party progresses: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

What was once a library is now a shattered mess with one corner being completely collapsed and dominated by a wide pool of stagnant water.
Thick fungus grows on most of the books that still remain on the shelves lining the walls. There is another doorway on the east wall, leading back to the hallway. The door lies rotting on the ground.
Gimble Strapfellow
Opening the door with knife in hand, Gimble shakes his head and scrunches up his nose at the smell.
"Good news, no traps or tentacle monsters. Bad news, very stinky and mildew. There's some books, Trom, but I dont know how legible they are. "
Gimble cautiously moves into the room, weapon at the ready.
Hendrina Verkirk
Hennie gives the gross mold a good look before going into the room.
What's up with the mold?
K Nature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Nothing apparently.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Most of the books are covered with the fungus. There is one book high on the shelves that seems untouched, but the shelves leading to it are fungus covered. Whatever this fungus is, it seems to really like books. In spots where it's grown and then moved on, you can see it has ruined leather, rotted pages, and left discolouration on the parts it didn't destroy.
Trom Deoch
"Tis a strange thing to be seeing," Trom says as he walks through the room. Pulling out a dagger, he scrapes some of the fungus up.
"I can't help wonder what could be keeping the likes of this lichen from that top shelf," he comments. "Perhaps one of you tall folks can take a look."
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Knowledge of why fungus isn't on the top shelf?

Trom can barely see up there because of the height, but he does notice that the fungal growth stops about 6 inches from the book in a rather perfect circle. Their is dust in the area, but the fungus just stops. His knowledge of nature suggests this isn't very natural.

His companions all busied with and awed by the miraculius survival of the lone tome, Odd'n takes up watch by the doorframe that once held the long rotted door that now lays in ruin in the ground.
Occassionally peaking his head out the room to ensure no wolves have decided too test their luck and the parties vigilance, Odd'n maintains his guard.

That's a pretty clever solution.
It's possible to hook and pull and prod gently enough to cause the book to fall off the shelf. It's a beautiful tome with a cover made made from leather and brass, with deeply embossed letters in dwarven.

The book looks like it could be worth something.
To Appraise the book, you'd need to open it and examine it further. Appraise check anyone?

The door that Odd'n is standing guard in leads out to the hall that connects back up to the room you slept in last night, the hall you came in through yesterday, that leads out to the courtyard.
Last night Odd'n saw or helped the party drag the landsquids out into the hall so that they wouldn't be sharing a room with them.
The landsquids no longer appear to be there.
