Arriving at the address known as both the Kotargo Lodge and Phlegos Dulm’s potion shop, the pathfinders find themselves in the street in front of a large building (maps page 1). The front door (red x, east side) to the potion shop is closed, though by looking through the large front window the group can see a light inside and a small shape moving around. Doing a quick scout around the building, they see a closed back door (yellow x, west side) to an unknown part of the building. There are also more windows on the north and east sides of the building, but all the curtains have been drawn.
What do you all do?
| GM TOP |
One vote for talk your way through the front and one statement that locks will not be a problem.
Khugron
|
"One of my trainersss said "Plausible deniability" for thingss like thisss. If we talk way in, they remember usss be here. If they no see uss, then they have no idea what happened. Open lock, your way more quiet than mine." Khugron said.
Helvega Grodur
|
Raising an eyebrow as she looks towards Remi, she considers the situation. "Well, if yous really think you can...but we'll all hafta be sneaky-like. If that sound ok, then you'll have my vote."
Tenibri
|
"That works for me. Remy, if you somehow find the lock beyond your skills, I have a spell that can open the door, too. But I would need a moment to study it." Tenibri keeps looking up and down the street, knowing that the longer they stay out here, the more likely they are also seen and remembered.
Tenibri
|
"Oh, hey. You know, maybe we should do both! One or two could go in the front, pose as customers, and make sure whoever that is..." he points out the moving shape through the curtains, "stays up front."
| GM TOP |
Okay, I'll assume all of you head to the back alley unless anyone decides on their own to take Tenibri's distraction advice.
Remy pulls out a small leather wallet, opening it to reveal a set of very finely crafted lock picks and other small tools. Pulling them out, he crouches down in front of the lock and takes a look at it. Face wrinkled in concentration he moves his picks up to the lock... and then stops. Standing up he shrugs and backs away from the door saying, "ain't locked."
What do you all do?
Tony and Luna
|
"I'm pretty sneaky myself... as long as I'm not riding Luna. She can be decently sneaky if I'm not riding her, but she can also stay outside. I'm fine with whatever decision is made," Tony says with a shrug.
| GM TOP |
Okay, so it seems we have enough votes to go with a course of action. Some PC's are going in the front to distract whomever is there. I need to know exactly who is doing this. Some other PC's are going in the back sneakily. I need to know exactly who is doing that and get a stealth roll from ya. If animal companions are going in the back, I also need a handle animal check to have them sneak. If they have the sneak trick trained it is a DC 10 check, if they do not it is a push action and DC 25 check, though retries are allowed. Thanks!
Helvega Grodur
|
"Hmmm...I can be sneaky when I's not talkin, it's a bit hard to keep quiet but Helvega CAN!" she beams, glancing towards Cuddles. "However, Cuddles aint quite learned it yet. So, we'll head up front with the Tatho."
"You want me to take Luna too?"
Cuddles and I will go up front with Tatho
Khugron
|
Slapping on some paste to help quiet down his armor, Khungron joined the others at the back, just in case they run into problems. trying to be as quiet as he can with his large size.
Stealth: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
Using Armor ointment to reduce the ACP by 1
Tenibri
|
Tenibri takes a wand out, casting a spell to keep his senses at their peak, then stays quiet behind Remy as they begin their entrance through the back door.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Casting heightened awareness; +2 to Perception and +4 to next Initiative check
Tony and Luna
|
Answering Helvega, Tony says, "No, I will keep Luna with me. She is pretty sneaky without my weight on her." Standing side-by-side, Tony and Luna remain quiet and await someone to take the lead through the back door.
Stealth, Tony: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Stealth, Luna: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
| GM TOP |
I'll assume you all just plan to give the front group of 2.5 pathfinders about a minute to get in and provide their distraction. This is what Tatho, Helvega and Cuddles see.
A smell bell jingles as the two plus plant enter the building. The main storefront of the Kotargo Lodge contains shelves stuffed with potions, unguents, and bottles of various questionable substances.
A small shape perks up from behind the desk. Illumination is provided by a few glowing wall sconces, light flickering off all the glassware. Dressed like a shopkeep, a female goblin comes around the corner of the counter and greets you all with a practiced phrase, "good evening gentle-beings, I am Lobda. How may I help you?"
Remy are you heading in the front or staying with the back group? Make a Stealth check if you are staying in the back please.
Tatho
|
Tatho blinks a bit, then offers a smile. "Evenin' Lobda. Boss Dulm sent us back from the party to check on the office, what with the problems lately. Everything alright? Any of the boys in the back?"
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 The die roller hates me, I'll use my reroll.
Bluff Reroll: 1d20 + 9 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 5 = 17 Wow. Well, there ya go.
Helvega Grodur
|
Blinking a few times as she adjusts to the lighting, Helvega rubs her eyes a bit as the goblin approaches. 'Goblins?! I...'
Seeing her companion take it in stride, she smiles. 'I guess its ok...' Making her way over to the shelves, the halfling begins to silently peruse the vials.
| GM TOP |
Family and I were hit with a small cold yesterday. Nothing major, but it put a damper on my posting. Should resume normal pace today.
The goblin seems a bit saddened that she doesn't get to help anyone, then she sees Helvega browsing the vials. She waves at Tatho dismissively, "okay, head on back. I got a customer."
Eyes glowing with glee, she hops on over to Helvega, "how can I help you miss? I see you are looking at our finest drinky things! We do great work here, even adding a bit of flavor so they don't go down so bad! Can I interest you in a sample?" She pulls out a small tasting cup from her pouch and wipes out the dirt before offering it to Helvega with a big toothy grin.
I'm holding back the action in the ally to see what the two up front do next.
| GM TOP |
Okay, that works enough to move us along.
Armor creaking slightly less, but still quite loud to everyone's ears in the ally, Khugron swings the back door open and prepares to step inside quietly. Inside the first thing he sees is a human male in the middle of the well lit warehouse looking right at him, eyeing him suspiciosly.
The room itself is a large warehouse. In addition to the human male in the middle there are three more in similar garb throughout the room. Two of them have mops and buckets, cleaning out cages with locking doors that line the northern wall which appear to be similar to prison cells.
The man standing in the middle speaks, "what the heck... I didn't know we were getting more uh... whatever you are." He waves Khugron inside, "well, chop chop then, all y'all get inside. Are you braced for it?"
From the 2 up front you have a DC 16 Perception to hear that someone is talking in the back area. DC 21 to hear exactly what is being said.
Khugron
|
"Me keep themss in line. How many you expect?" Khugron said, giving the human a growl as he indicated the cages.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Helvega Grodur
|
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
"Uh..what?" she replies, glancing towards Tatho with a pleading look. "Oh...uh...yeah. I'd happily snag a taste. You said you got the icky bit handled? I always hate that aftertaste."
"You seem quite friendly."
I don't know if you need a roll here - she is being sincere
Tenibri
|
Tenibri looks surprised to see activity in the back; it's clear that he was expecting an empty warehouse. Maybe sending the others up front wasn't the best idea...
As soon as he is through the door, he steps into the shadows and... disappears!
Standard: use dissolution's child (duration: 4 rounds) to blend into the shadows as invisibility; since his Stealth check was 25, I'm hoping there's a good chance he wasn't noticed specifically yet and that this will go unseen
Once per day, you may change your appearance to look as if you were little more than a 4-foot-tall area of shadow. Your physical form still exists and you are not incorporeal—only your appearance changes. This works like invisibility, except it only lasts 1 round per level (maximum 5 rounds). This is a supernatural ability.
| GM TOP |
The middle thug, who seems to be in charge, draws out a vial of clear liquid and steps back, "you know what to do, boys. Knock em out, toss em in a cage and let the boss figure it out when he returns."
The three others drop their mops and cleaning supplies, draw saps and step forwards towards Khugron.
Surprise Round Done.
Tenibri: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 4 = 21
Helvega/Cuddles: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Thugs
Khugron
Helvega & Cuddles
Boss
Tony & Luna
Tatho
Remy
Bold May Act, which is currently Tenibri. Tenibri, you heard everything that was said and saw the last actions by the thugs & boss. I'll have perception check DC's for Tatho/Helvega to hear what is going on when it is their turn.
| GM TOP |
Ugh, I hate when I don't check to see if anyone has posted before I put up my big thing. Tenebri snuck his post in while I was writing it. I'll allow his actions to have taking place while everyone was talking so he may still take his round 1 action. I also moved him inside the room. Please please move your own character pieces or ask someone to help you do so. Thank you.
Tenibri
|
Sorry about the movement!
Tenibri moves a little deeper into the room, staying as quiet as possible, and calls on his innate conjuring power to open a sparkling portal of shimmering, sparking light behind one of thier foes. An enormous shining ant appears behind Tenibri's victim!
Move: 10' at half speed (Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11)
Standard: cast summon monster II as a standard action using conjurer's focus (2 arcane pool, 4 minutes duration)
| Summoned Monster: Tenibri |
The ant immediately chomps down on the boss, attempting to grip it tight in both mandibles as it delivers a painful sting.
Full round: full attack
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage, P: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Grab, if hits: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Sting: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage, P: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Poison: Fort DC 14; 1/round for 4 rounds; 1d2 Str; 1 save
| GM TOP |
Just to simplify things, I'm going to assume the sting went first so we don't have to deal with the vague issue of if the grapple succeeds does that prevent further attacks? Also, the ant has 22 HP with your feat, correct?
Sneaking into the room further, the shadow speaks a word and with a poof, a very large (for an bug) ant appears behind the boss dude, stinging him and grabbing him with chompy mandibles! The stinger drips with poison as it is pulled back out, though the boss doesn't seem bothered by it.
One of the thugs darts forward and draws a scimitar in his offhand, slashing at the ant, "I got ya back boss. This critter is dead!"
The curved blade connects and penetrates the thick exoskeleton, but doesn't seem to do much more than that. A second thug draws and slams down a potion, instantly growing to a much larger size! (Enlarge Person potion drank) He steps forward, points at Khugron and yells to the third thug, "drag that bugger over here and I'll take him out!" The other thug dashes up to Khugron and attempts to drag him through the doorway. (This attempt does not provoke)
I can't find your CMD score anywhere Khugron, but I'm guessing it's about 20 with your level and stats. Please calculate it and put it somewhere readable, preferably in your header. Thanks!
But while he grabs the strapping Nagaji firmly, he is unable to move the sturdier fellow at all.
Round 1
Tenibri (Invisible 3/4) & Ant (grappled, -4)
Thugs
Khugron
Helvega & Cuddles

Tatho
Remy
Bold May Act. Helvega & Tatho, the Perception DC turned out to be 1 to hear the sounds of battle, so I'm hoping you can't fail that so go ahead and assume you hear the sounds of a fight from the back room.
Khugron
|
Stepping back a bit as he started to foam at the mouth, Khugron focused for a moment to grab his weapon before he smashed the foe into a fine mist as his head was obliterated. "Time for you slaversss to die!!!" he hissed, looking at the others.
5' step back. Martial flexibility to gain Quick Draw for 1 minute. Rage + Power attack
Bec de Corbin Rage + Power attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 311d10 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20
Crit?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 182d10 + 34 ⇒ (7, 9) + 34 = 50
Well, if 18 hits it, then I guess it is very dead. Great way to start off the battle...for us. 10 temp HP due to Rage
Helvega Grodur
|
Cocking her head to the side, Helvega gasps "Oh no! Someone's in trouble in back!"
Without hesitation, she runs for the door, Cuddles lumbering along behind her.
Double Move
| GM TOP |
Khugron steps back, and with a bare flicker of action, his massive polearm appears in his hand. The heavy pointed hammer threateningly close to the enemy. He yells a challenge and brings it in a massive over the head swing, building momentum for a mighty strike. The thug just looks on in wonder, frozen in place as the hammer swings towards him. With a sickening explosion of bone and viscera, the pointed part of the hammer completely demolishes the head and upper body of the thug and what remains crumples to the ground. (Visualization found at 1:55, warning violent content.)
Helvega darts towards the door, concerned that she might miss out on an incredible kill. She was right to be concerned.
The boss's mouth drops for a second, and then steel returns to his eyes as he draws a short sword and stabs at the ant draped over his body. However, the strike just barely misses. Maybe the vicious slaughter he just witnessed put his nerves on edge.

Tony and Luna
|
Tony, hearing the commotion within the building, quickly mounts Luna. They race into the building. Seeing the larger than normal thug in front of them, Tony guides Luna into striking distance and thrusts his lance towards the bad guy.
Tony: free to swift mount Luna, move to pull out lance, attack englarged bad guy
Ride to Swift Mount, DC20: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Riding Attack w/ Lance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 for Piercing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Luna: double move
Tatho
|
"Stay here Lobda, we'll handle this!" Tatho urges quickly, moving to follow Helvega. Shield and scimitar out, he moves up to throw the door open.
Move action, drawing weapon and quickdraw shield as he goes. Assuming the door is closed, he will use a move action to open it.
Tenibri
|
Yes, the ant has 22 hp; its stats are correct in its profile; the link in the ant's statline is just so you can reference the original stats.
If they can bring bigger to the party... we can too!
Tenibri begins the casting of a spell to enlarge one of his allies.
Khugron, I'm thinking of you; any objection to getting bigger? It will take effect at the start of Tenibri's next turn (i.e. you'll have time to get inside the building)
| Summoned Monster: Tenibri |
The ant continues to grapple, crushing the boss in its mandibles.
Standard: maintain grapple
Grapple, grab, grappled: 1d20 + 5 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 4 + 5 = 22
Damage, bite, B/P/S: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
| GM TOP |
Who is the big man on the slide? THe x is a downed opponent?
An enemy thug that drank an enlarge person potion.
Yes, any enemy that is down I try to mark with a red x.
| GM TOP |
Tony quickly hops into action, both figuratively and literally as with a flash, he is now mounted on Luna. The wolf dashes past the still warm dead body of the thug and her rider draws a lance, leveling it at the largest enemy in the room. His strike is true, but doesn't seem to have enough *umph* to pierce through the target's armor.
Tenibri begins chanting a spell while remaining quite difficult to hit in his shadowy form. Tatho dashes after Helvega after issuing a command to the goblin shopkeep. He whips open the door to see the chaotic scene inside the warehouse as the Giant Ant keeps its grip and continues chewing its target.
The goblin looks at Tenibri and listens to the sounds of violent combat from the next room. She says, "I ain't getting paid to get hacked up! I'm outta here!" With that, she moves to the front door of the shop and pulls it open.
Round 1 & 2

I forgot to include Smite Evil in the ant's attacks. Each hit should have done 2 pt more damage if the boss is evil. I will include it moving forward; retcon as you see fit.
Khugron
|
Khugron, I'm thinking of you; any objection to getting bigger? It will take effect at the start of Tenibri's next turn (i.e. you'll have time to get inside the building)
Works for me. I can do it myself but it would take the actions.
