Prank War Map

Welcome to my table for the special. I hope you all will have a good time as we go through this adventure whether this is your first time in this special or your fourth.

Just thought I would dot into this now. Didn't realize until moments ago that there was a forum set-up already. I've never done this special before, and really enjoyed the last one I took part in.

That said, this is a brand new character, fresh off the assembly line. Hopefully everything goes well. :)

I'm guessing that we don't officially get underway until the 11th?

Hi guys, late sign up here. I've only played Pathfinder society a couple times before at all actually. Decided to give Outpost a go.

Prank War Map

I'm happy to have you all at my table. This is scheduled to start on March 11th and we will jump straight into the adventure once the opening is read off by the Overseer GM for the special.

It doesn't necessarily matter if you have played in any other parts of this special, but I would curious to know what, if any, parts you have run or played in this series of Solstice Scar specials. I'll be posting a summary of the events of this special to get everyone on the same page on the current events and actions within this series.

I'll be covering a bit on how this special will run differently from other scenarios you have played in. If at any point you have any questions feel free to shoot them at me. My general goals will be to try to keep a constant pace for the posts and to allow for everyone to have a fun time.

Liberty's Edge

|LN| Tengu Samurai (Sword Saint) 1 HP 9/10; 1 Non-lethal | AC 17; TAC 12; FFAC 15 | Fort +2; Ref +2; Will +2 | Init: +2 | Perc: +3 (+5 vs. surprise and to detect invisible or incorporeal creatures), SM: +6; low-light vision | Speed 20 ft | Challenge: 0/1; Resolve: 1/1 | Active conditions: None. |

The only thing I'm curious about is how the general announcements to all tables (from GM Overseer, it seems) will be handled. Is there a link that all players will have access to for this purpose, or will he/she post into each table's gameplay thread?

Prank War Map

The latter is correct. When there is announcement is made to everyone in the event, the overseer will post that to each tables's gameplay thread. All the information you will need from the adventure will be posted either in our gameplay thread or in this discussion thread.

There might be links to other information and cross table information and I'll link those here in this thread as I get them.

I haven't done any parts of Soltice Scar. I have played the Starfinder special. I assume the difference in how specials work are the same here?

Prank War Map

Those differences are very similar to that of the Starfinder special. I'll repeat them out below.

As you complete encounters, I will be reporting your successes to the head of this event. Your actions will be counted alongside those of every other table in the event and can result in various events such that your actions can help influence the encounters at all of the tables.

There will be Aid Tokens that will be passed from table to table. These represent their characters offering assistance to your table as well as a way for you to help other tables as well. I'll detail the rules for how those work in the next week.

In comparison to a normal PbP scenario I will be trying to keep a faster pace because the special does operate within a strict timeframe. This shouldn't necessarily put you any undue pressure. As long as you are able to pose once per day, that is fine and any more than that is great. I will be more aggressive about botting characters though. Normally I would give most of a full day before I take an action for a PC, but since the timeframe is a lot stricter for the special I use this a lot more frequently to make certain everyone has something to do each day.

For that last part, one thing I would ask from everyone is to put a default action/simple tactics line along with the dice roll commands in the profile for your character. This makes a lot of combats that could easily take a week to be cut down to a few days just because many times the posting times of different players aren't lining up perfectly. Let me know if you want more clarification on this, I don't want to come away with the poor impression on this bit as I am being a bit wary of making any of you think I'm looking to skip turns or get through any battles without your participation.

Looking forward to this getting off the ground. :)

Ooo... looks like we got a full table.

Prank War Map

Yes, i was glad to see that. I always have enjoyed these with a full table going in.

I've updated the short description at the top of the campaign to have a link to these Maps and Handouts. It is also in my profile so you will see it under my name for every post. You should be able to move around the icons on the first page. If you place them in a marching order, that is what I will use for starting placements at the start of any battle.

The second page of the Maps and Handouts is a description of an Aid Token that I referred to before. We don't have one yet, but if all goes well one should be at our table within the first few days of the special.

Aid Token Info

When we get an Aid Token the party can use it right away (max 1/encounter). You can either attempt to use one of the benefits of the Aid Token or you can attempt a check to boost the Aid token (to make it better for later parties who get it). Either way, the token goes straight to another table for them to use.

Along a lot of those items there are boosted effects, you can only use those boosted effects if the token has already been boosted. For example, you can only get the 3d6 Burst of Healing (rather than the normal 1d6) if the Aid Token is noted to have "Boosted: Burst of Healing".

Attempting (pass or fail) to boost the token means it gets passed as well. What you need to boost any given ability is listed on the handout. You don't need to wait for your turn to boost it and it doesn't take an action either. Mechanically, it as though you did it before the current encounter.

One thing I will ask is for these Aid Tokens not to sit idle (for days) at this table. Since these get passed to other tables as they get used, a single token can be used multiple tables by many tables. While it is tempting to get these resources and hold onto them for critical moments, these are intended to be used and passed forward. If you are in a social encounter and don't have a good use for it when it arrives, I recommend you attempt to boost it and pass it on rather than hold it for the next combat encounter.

Prank War Map

Also go ahead and post an description of your character and introduce yourselves in the Gameplay thread as we wait for the start of the event.

One quick thing. Seeing as this is starting in the north, would buying Winter clothing be suggested?

Prank War Map

Some of the areas you will be traveling will be below freezing and most characters would be more comfortable with the heavier protection.

With that said with the way you will be traveling through the convoy you will probably won't need cold weather gear.

Were there still open slots? Or...?

Check the Flaxseed thread for the Sign Up link. This game is currently marked as full, but I'm still waiting for one more player to contact me and the other two to post here.

Just for reference, what time does everything officially get underway tomorrow?

Prank War Map

I'm not sure of the exact time, but if I had to guess the post announcing the start would likely be around 8 to 10 AM PST.

Prank War Map

Well, there is the answer, I was off by a bit, but I'll get this game started.

There are still a couple of people who haven't posted in the thread and I'll be hunting that bit down, but I'll post the bits of the opening encounter as we head into this adventure.

I'm currently looking for a sixth player now as I don't think the one that signed up originally will be able to make it.

Prank War Map

Alright. You can go ahead and post in the main thread going forward. We will work out the details of stats along the way.

AID TOKEN #1

Timely Inspiration (Aurus Goldson)

Prank War Map

The first aid token has hit our table. I've mentioned them before in this thread (Link). I will encourage you to use it or boost it as you see fit so that it can be passed to another table quickly. I'll also put a link to the aid token cheat sheet as one of the campaign links (in addition to the copy of the handout on the slides).

Does the Inspire Courage Effect work on everyone? Or just the person that declares the use?

What type of action is it to use an Aid Token?

Prank War Map

A free action to use an aid token. It requires no action to boost it (since it is assumed you did it before the fight).

I'm thinking we use it right away, since it came in a timely manner for this fight. I just don't know if we all get the benefit, or just one person.

I'm pretty sure we all get it. We should use it and pass it on.

Prank War Map

Correct, for most of the bonuses you all get the full benefit from the aid token (burst of healing and timely inspiration). There are some that affect one person more than others. Allied offensive aids the damage on one persons attack, but also gives a flanking bonus for anyone else in the party that attacks.

Provide knowledge and provide spellcasting will only affect one person.

Sounds good. Does anyone have anything against it's immediate use?

Just so you know Ken'ichi a 5 ft step is a free action. You probably don't have anything else to do with your move action but I thought I'd toss that out there.

Technically, it doesn't fall under any classification. It's labeled at 'No Action' or Miscellaneous. But you're right, Free Action probably makes more sense in a posting format. :)

Prank War Map

There won't be many good places to go down during this, but all things considered the combat is breaking down. If there was a good time to get KOed, this would be it. Hopefully you are up and going soon.

Besides that, how is everyone feeling about this adventure so far? We are about at the half way point for this event and I wanted to know if people were happy with the pacing I've been running, if it has been too fast, too slow, confusing, abrupt transitions or anything like that?

Are you all having fun going past this midway point?

Liberty's Edge

|LN| Tengu Samurai (Sword Saint) 1 HP 9/10; 1 Non-lethal | AC 17; TAC 12; FFAC 15 | Fort +2; Ref +2; Will +2 | Init: +2 | Perc: +3 (+5 vs. surprise and to detect invisible or incorporeal creatures), SM: +6; low-light vision | Speed 20 ft | Challenge: 0/1; Resolve: 1/1 | Active conditions: None. |

Generally, I think it's been going well. I like that you bot as need and keep things moving.

I'll admit that it's been frustrating getting so many garbage rolls, (despite the good ones) but that's all part of the game (not like I do much better with real dice :p). It definitely doesn't help that he is a brand new PFS character. Not even a MW sword to his name.

I digress, though. Regardless of how things are going personally, I'm enjoying the game. :)
