The door is shoved open without much trouble, pushing small rocks, cooking implements, and shanks of meat away. This long room has several stone slabs jutting from the west wall at multiple heights, each larger than a wagon. Furs and bedrolls upon these slabs mark them as bunks for giants. The south end of the room contains a large wooden table and a few stools.
On the highest of the bunks lies another frost giant. He is surprisingly thin for his kind, hair, beard, and eyes white with blue highlights. This one is actually asleep, rising and falling in time with heavy snores.

| P.T. Fumbus |
"You think he's a 'good giant'?" Fumbus asks, Harry.
The goblin walks quietly up to the slumped form of the giant, lying on the bunk. "I don't know..." the goblin ponders aloud. "He looks like he could still be alive to me."

The bat known as Miladistra lands and reverts to her elven self. "Uh, so someone died outside and he didn't even notice?"
She tries to identify the kind of giant and their general disposition.

Zordox casts Detect Magic and examines the room and the giant.
"I do not like zis. Zomething is not right here."
GM Crunch
|
The giant's behavior at the moment doesn't seem out of the ordinary - he's just sleeping. Not waking up to this moderate noise, admittedly.
Zordox detects a faint aura of magic everywhere he pans his sight. Not the sort that accompanies a weak spell, but more akin to some incredibly powerful ritual with a constant effect. He isn't able to tell exactly how it works or what it does, however.
| Zordox de la Flamme |
"Eet zeems zere ees a very powerful ritual taking place zomewhere in zis complex. Let us leave zis giant for now. I do not zink we will be able to disturb it in zee first place. We should find what zis ritual ees about. I have a feeling eet might be why zat dead giant was zere for so long."
| Arkandru Pavlencas |
Arkandru snaps out of his reverie and nods at Zordox's suggestion. He casts Heroism on himself, and draws his greatsword.
"I agree," the big man says. "I vonder if the reason he is so thin is that he has been sleeping for an unnaturally long time."
He notices Trofimir sniffing around the frozen, aged meat. "Come along, Trofimir. It vill be there vhen ve are done."
Heroism: +1 conditional bonus to attack rolls, Perception checks, saving throws, and skill checks for 10 minutes.
| P.T. Fumbus |
Fumbus eyes the vial of alchemist's fire his hands, then looks at the others as they walk away.
"So, no toasty, warm bed for the giant?" he asks rhetorically, his shoulders slumping in disappointment, as he follows the others.
GM Crunch

The team decides not to murder the sleeping giant (for now) and moves on. The way out opens to the backside of the southern double door, and a new hallway. This hall contains overlapping carvings of wolves, lions, and dragons in restful repose. It seems like a long passage, but you can hear several...somethings moving about further down!
| Harry Great Hudini |
Harry will cast Wall of fire hearing those sounds as protection, giving them a narrow opening if something is around the corner. He shortens it 5 feet, instead of taking it to the wall in case someone wants to hide on the other side of the fire.
That spell won't last long, can someone please move up to the end of that corner. Remember, you can't see through the fire, so you literally will have to move to that last square to see anything.
GM Crunch
|
I'll just reveal the hallway now to make things easier. Stuff could be figured out by hearing and anyone who sees can relay to other team members.
Harry fills the hall with fire, warming it up and eliciting reactions. Sudden shouts in Jotun carry over, mixed surprise and barked commands. The growling of wolves can be heard shortly after. The voices then blare out in Common. "Who dares defile Thremyr's palace?!"

Nature: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36 Oh, what kind of wolves are these?
"I hope you're not the type to kill first and ask questions later. Maybe we could talk it out? One of your giants is taking a long nap. And another is taking a much longer nap..."
Miladistra prepares to cast Stinking Cloud (Page 259, Fort Save DC 25) if the enemy makes a hostile action. Honestly she'd rather try Diplomacy but no one has been in the talkative mood today!
GM Crunch

No need to cancel the action, let's just keep it on the backburner for now. Wouldn't want to waste those rolls. Didn't think anyone would save against the murderous urges, either. I'll try to make this informative and interesting.
One of the giants looks ready to fling an axe at Miladistra for her temerity. The other, however, nudges her partner and mutters something in Jotun. "Naps? What did you do to them? Or perhaps they're asleep," she says in Common. "If that's the case, they can be roused. Just give 'em a good shake. Considering your haste to attack in our realm, the least you could do is wake them up."

"And Winter Wolves, what about you? Did you see anything?" She addresses the wolves directly. "Come on, I know you can talk to us. I'd rather not get buried in your frosty clouds."
Assuming she can get everyone to calm down for 1 minute, she will attempt to parley with the giant who spoke to her.

The giants don't look inclined to reply to Miladistra's question. The wolves, huffing slowly in preparation for a fight, aren't speaking at all despite the ability. One shakes its head a little.
Arkrandu doesn't recall much beyond what was talked over before setting out: Thremyr often slumbers, but when awake, a small few giants kowtow before him while most scramble out of his way. He isn't known to be merciful to anything, even his worshipers.
"You should," one giant rumbles, the opposite of Arkrandu's calm, "Because you burst in here unannounced and unwelcome. Might even have killed the giant you mentioned. It would help your case to show us a courtesy. Or you could just go the way it seems you wanted to all along, what with that fire. Well, want to fight, get this over with?"
| 2E - Miladistra |
Miladistra grunts. "I finally meet someone to talk to, and it turns out you want blood. No one say I didn't try."
Miladistra casts Stinking Cloud (Page 259, Fort Save DC 25) and prepares for needless bloodshed.
