Flip and Big Sky take a fraction of a second to duck behind the ballista, cutting down on the burning flames that reach out to touch them. Yelling to see if his allies need assistance, the Siege Engineer replies in the affirmative as he clasps his scorched flesh. Darting over, Flip draws a wand and mitigates a good portion of the injury.

Dana Reflex DC 15: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3

Taking the full brunt of the damage, Dana’s healing spirit kicks in to start mitigating it immediately. She turns back to the siege machine and continues her given task.

Torsten takes a violent hack at the Brimorak he has been fighting, powering through possible incompetence with pure force of will and burying his axe into the chest of the demon, who collapses to the ground, dead. 1d4 ⇒ 4 Fire Damage Taken. Burning Demonic blood dripping from the blade, he turns to the other beast and touches himself on the chest, his wounds healing.

Gordy moves down to engage the traitors, slamming his water hammer into the evil human. Ribs crack under the force of the blow, but the enemy does not fall.

Taniian casts a quick spell, holding the charge in his blade. He darts over and slashes at the other demon, Cold Iron Rapier barely missing by a hair as the demon proves to be elusive.

Guy continues working to keep the siege engine process moving along, the odor of burned fur filling the air.

The last false crusader steps back and attempts to trip Gordy by hooking his foot with his guissarme.

GM Screen:
Trip vs. CMD: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

The dripping water channeling dwarf slams onto his back, taken down to the ground.

Taniian Fort Save vs. Stink Aura DC 17: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Easily resisting the stench from the beast, Taniian watches the other demon step to the side and then flinches as a gout of vomited burning blood sprays towards him and Torsten.

Taniian and Torsten take 5d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 2, 4) = 19 fire damage, Reflex DC 17 for half.

Okay full disclosure and warning time, the timely inspiration would allow the hit to connect, however if it does hit and two rolls go poorly, Taniian will be dead, and I don’t mean unconscious, I mean dead. I will thus leave it up to Taniian to decide if he wishes to take that risk.

Dana's mental powers trigger further healing as she continues plugging away on the siege engine, it is close being able to be fired. Guy keeps up with his end of the work.

Failing to cast, Gordy stands up, provoking an attack from the traitor.

As the demons vile emesis sprays across him causing significant burns, Taniian curses loudly in Elvish. He realises his strength is fading but others are depending on him, he must persevere. Of course, that doesn't mean he needs to be completely foolhardy. He cautiously takes a step toward those who may be able to use his wand to heal him if the opportunity arises.

Uttering an uncharacteristic prayer to Yueiral, Taniian once more takes a swing at the blue-tinged demon, hoping to this time connect and deliver the magical cold damage along with some damage of a more mundane nature. His wounds, however, hamper his style and he finds he just cannot connect.

Taniian Round 12 was -2, -10 from fireball, -9 from fire breath = -21 by my math.

Flip zips right on over and activates a wand, healing Torsten a bit to keep him in the fight. The sturdy dwarf takes a careful slash at the demon but misses. Dodging the worst of the flames, his elf companion takes a stab at the demon, also missing. The demon chuckles and licks his lips in anticipation.

Across the battlefield, the traitorous demon worshiper hops back and attempts to repeat his tripping trick.

GM Screen:
MWK Guisarme trip vs. CMD: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

But his supreme confidence in the tactic seems to be a bit out of place as his blade sticks into the ground, failing to flip the dwarf.

The siege engineers finishing their aiming and yell for their pathfinder workers to "PULL THE LEVER! WE'VE GOT THE SHOT LINED UP!" (2 full round actions will do it)

The Brimorak cares little about the puny human worshiper's conundrum as he slashes his longsword at his opponents, stepping forward and targeting the one enemy that has actually hurt him (Flip).

Net vs the Brimorak's Touch AC+Bless: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 1 = 17

"Let's give this demon something else to do other than hit us!" Flip drops a net on the Brimorak to keep it occupied, and to give Torsten a chance. "Irez favors those who make their own luck. This is a hard battle. Let us make one more attack with that siege engine, and then make a strategic retreat!"

Then Flip guides Big Sky with his knees to take a five foot step back.

"I'll man the ballista next against the demon if you think that we can stand up long enough to get another shot!"

Realistically speaking, we are damn near to a TPK, but we might still pull this through. The problem that I see is that it's out of our hands. We need to contribute to the successes here, but I have no idea if the other tables are pulling their weight. We need healing, and we need backup. Is there any sense in all this whether we are close? Can we hear cheering from other crusaders, or sounds of a turning battle?

Spell Templates by GM Tiger | Citadel Core | Core To Scale the Dragon |

Other than the one reported success of the higher level pathfinders in killing the enemy balor, there is nothing else that your characters would know regarding how the battle is going. Out of character knowledge would let you know that you are closing in on your 3rd success, which puts you ahead of the current average table.

However, while the scenario does allows you to retreat, it enacts a very stiff penalty for doing so. The siege engineers would be killed and siege engines would take damage. Beyond that very specifically written option, I would have to ask the overseer if there was a way to retreat with fewer negative penalties.

Spell Templates by GM Tiger | Citadel Core | Core To Scale the Dragon |

Flip flops a net over the demon and while it likely won't slow him much, it'll at least soak a slash of its nasty sword. He flits back out of immediate harm's way.

Dana pulls with all her might to release the siege engine's load out towards the demonic horde, but just can't quite get the leverage. However, her injuries do at least continue to heal.

Botting Taniian as best as I think he would act this round.

Taniian takes a very defensive action, warily watching for any incoming attacks. (Total Defense, Current AC is 25 as I believe he has 3 ranks in Acrobatics)

Taking a predictable step back, the false crusader aims again at the stocky dwarf's legs, attempting to upend him again.

GM Screen:
MWK Guisarme Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Gordy ends up on his back yet again, the tactic working now two out of three tries.

One of the siege engineers moves over to Dana, filling in for her pathfinder ally that was unable to make it over. With their combined strength, the huge bolt is fired deep into enemy territory to wreak havoc on the demonic horde.

SUCCESS REPORTED!!!

The Brimorak curses in abyssal (NSFW obviously) and then releases a flurry of attacks, the first one incinerating most of the net with the follow-up slash aimed at Torsten and a single hoof directed towards Taniian.

GM Screen:
Longsword: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 for Slashing: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (4) = 8

Longsword Iterative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 for Slashing: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (5) = 14

Hoof: 1d20 ⇒ 11 for Bludgeoning: 1d3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (4) = 8

Or at least that is what the demon wished occurred, as instead his first slash somehow or other completely misses the net and it takes his second slash to free him from the annoyance. His hoof proves quite ineffective after that.

Good news also comes from below the edge as the ladders are pulled down and you hear someone yelling up in common, "we took em out! No more enemies coming. You alright up there?"

Since he's liable to get hit with whatever he does, Gordy forms his blast into an ice hard brick and tosses it at the goon.

Kinetic Blast, simple: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 1 = 15

Gordy is going to stand up if that blast takes the false crusader out.

Ugh...I'm guessing that is probably going to miss. If it was only 2 lower...

Missed the tactical posts in discussion. If Dana does manage to daze or otherwise disable the false crusader for this round, Gordy would prefer just getting up and moving to engage the Brimorak. Otherwise, he'd just take the AoO while trying to finish the false crusader off.

Flip, even if the siege engineers are allowed to stop being siege engineers and help the group out, it is still a full round action to reload and they aren't able to act until the end of the round... so I'm going to adjust your action a tiny bit.

Flip zips over to the individually sized ballista, makes his case for assistance and then... gets really bored waiting for the engineers to make up their minds. Taking aim, he looses a very deadly arrow that pierces deep into the demon's chest. It reels back in pain.

Cold Iron Arrows Crit: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4) + 6 = 17

Turning to the frog, the Brimorak ignores the greater threat as Torston snicker snacks it into three very distinguishable pieces. The head pops off and falls over the edge, the torso portion slumps to the ground and the legs seem to stand for a few good seconds before collapsing to the ground as well. The dwarf almost seems to grin as the fire blood sprays him, knowing that the beast won't be doing anything like that ever again. 1d4 ⇒ 3 Fire Damage taken by Torsten.

Taniian, seeing that the demon is no longer a threat, turns to the sounds of battle behind him. Rage in his eyes at the traitor daring to attack them, he rushes over and buries his rapier deep into the human's neck. The false crusader seems to be attempting to speak, gurgles up blood, and then collapses in a heap.

Guy may adjust his CLW target or take a different action.

Taniian still needs the healing so I will leave it. However since the enemy is gone I will keep the wand out. A lot of us need healing.

Guy blinks in surprise. “Well, that was a surprising shift in battle...” He looks around for a moment, then smiles brightly.

Right, time to heal and reload Flip’s favorite weapons before more enemies descend on us!

Those unable to heal work on reloading ballista!

With no more enemies, are we out of initiative (but still in rounds)? I'll spend rounds healing up as fast as possible then providing healing to anyone still unhealed. Which may include the siege engineers.
