The Kegbraises his shield and moves in to strike.

Moved Ben's token for line of sight and Keg's for melee range.
Mikos leads the attack, running in and chopping at the alchemist over one of the pews. Jaris cries out in shock and pain, then again as Ben strikes him in the shoulder with an arrow.
Rodi and the Keg rush the nearest Splinter, stabbing him with their blades.
"They're here! What happened to the damned sentry!?" Jaris shouts, still shocked by your sudden appearance. He steps back from Mikos and pulls a flask from his belt before hurling it at Mikos.
Alch Fire: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23; Fire Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9 and 2 persistent fire damage!
"Get ahold of yourself, Jaris!" the priestess yells. She draws a fine rapier and chants a spell. She melds with the nearby shadows and disappears from sight.
The two Splinters draw steel and attack the Keg and Rodi, respectively.
Splinter shortsword vs the Keg: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25; Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

is the 2 burn this round or following rounds? I'm supposed to roll a flat check...
1d20 ⇒ 1
Mikos grits his teeth against the burning for the moment and focuses on killing the alchemist.

@Mikos: Burning on your turn this round and next.
Mikos steps up and beheads Jaris with a quick slash of the falchion.
Ben shoots arrows in the melee, hitting the male Splinter in the shoulder. Rodi flits around the pews and comes up at the man from behind, dropping him with a precise stab.
With one Splinter standing, the Keg spins on her and pinks her arm with his blade.
"%#$*& this!" the Splinter woman curses, finding herself alone in the chapel. She turns and runs, circling the altar and barreling out the western doorway. {Mikos will get an AoO here}
The priestess reappears a moment later, right behind Mikos. She snarls as she stabs him in the back. Again. And again!
Rapier: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25; Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 5) + 5 = 13

Mikos Karnikov |
er, ouch. that is a straight up assassination. Never take your eyes off the Norgorberite.
Mikos cackles at how easily the alchemist fell and slashes at a retreating Sphincter.
AoO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
damage: 1d10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
His blow veers off target and he suddenly twists painfully, vomiting blood as an assassin perforates several necessary organs from behind. Mikos dies.
Bruno "The Keg" Ironspine |
I assume she is using a striking weapon ... does that striking damage double as well?
DM NomadSage |
@Mikos: Not dead (there's no negative hp in PF2), but knocked out and dying 2.
@Keg: I assumed so, but I will check. Won't change the outcome here, though.
@Rodi: looks like you could get to your attack in 25 feet, which is your move rate. You don't need a double move. You have an action spare.
Benjamin Copperbottom |
Ben switches his unlit cigar to the other side of his mouth and takes careful aim at the assassination prone spinchter.

Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Several of his shafts find there way into Mikos, helping the poor man along to his death. I kid!
Or do I?
Bruno "The Keg" Ironspine |
The Keg strides over (1 action) and hits Mikos with Battle Medicine (1 action)]
Medicine Check DC20: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

He then attempts disarm the other priest, "Yer stinkin' god aint worth using mine's blade!"
Athletics vs Reflex DC (can use rapier with disarm quality): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26; Critical success is a disarm, regular success weakens her grip on the blade)
Mikos Karnikov |
The nearly dead again warrior gasps and blinks as Keg lays some healing on him. "Thought I was dead for sur- Burning!" he rolls back and forth to put out the flames and ends behind the priestess to clumsily stab from prone.

pfft. someone's telling me something.
DM NomadSage |
Yeah, that's rough...
Ben fires a few arrows at the priestess but struggles to find his mark in the shadowy temple. Rodi races through the pews and jabs her in the leg.
The Keg moves over and lays a healing hand on Mikos, staving off death for the moment. He hits her rapier with his own, throwing off her grip for a moment.
Mikos awakens and slaps at the flames and makes a feeble attack.
She spins on Rodi and attacks with rapid strikes before stepping back.

Bruno "The Keg" Ironspine |
Well that's dumb ... what's the purpose of a penalty to attack rolls if they never attack? Was that what they really intended? Is the only possible success a critical success?
The Keg drops his shield and attempts a series of Disarms (allowing me an open hand to take it on the chance of a critical success)
Disarm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Mikos Karnikov |
Double D'OH! I missed that, too. And I'm still on fire? Is there a duration for this?
Mikos continues rolling around as he burns!
Help me, Smokey Bear: 1d20 ⇒ 2
of course.
The extensive third degree burns have destroyed most of Mikos pain receptors so he just gets up and stabs the equally persistent assassin.
I'm the firestarter: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
dburning sensation: 2d10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1) + 2 + 1 = 9
DM NomadSage |
Ben continues to fire arrows without success. Rodi closes and attacks, slipping under the priestess's defenses and clipping her leg.
The Keg focuses on her weapon, knocking it to one side then reversing with a twist. The fine rapier flies from her grasp and she spits a rude curse.
Mikos gets back on his feet and hits her in the shoulder with a powerful chop.
The priestess recites a quick prayer call to Norgerber and waves her hand at Rodi, making his wounds rend open further. She steps back again, bumping into the altar.

He then stabs her with it. (Using regular rapier attack roll data)

Ben focuses aim and clips the woman across the shoulder. Rodi circles to flank her, but cannot land a hit.
The Keg takes up the priestess's rapier and stabs her with it. She starts to chant another prayer to her dark god, but Mikos cuts her off -- literally -- with a final chop of the falchion.
End of Combat! You each gain +175 xp, and I updated the spreadsheet.
The two Splinters are equipped like the ones you've encountered previously: padded armor, shortsword, dagger and crossbow, along with a vial of poison and minor healing potion. Between the two, you collect 30 silver pieces.
On Jaris, the alchemist, wears a chain shirt. He carries 5 alchemical grenades of different types, a tanglefoot bag, formula book and 25 gold.
The priestess carried the magical rapier, and wore a magic chain shirt. She carries 2 potions and a symbol of Norgerber, but no other valuables.
Mikos Karnikov |
Mikos puts a hand on Keg's shoulder to limp over and collapse in a pew. He grimaces as his barely healed organs are jarred by the impact of his landing on the hard bench. "That was another close one. Your God is alright, Keg, but most are nothing but trouble. I hear the Rahadoomies down south have outlawed religion altogether. An interesting thought."
"Do you think we've dealt with all the Sphincters now? One ran off, but she didn't seem interested in giving us any trouble." He catches his breath as the others rummage through the loot. "Any keys?"
Bruno "The Keg" Ironspine |
"Yah, friend. Ya need to stop leading with your soft parts ... although the Drunken One is surely laughing at your boldness," the Keg chuckles as he applies medicine to Mikos' wounds focusing specifically hard this time.
10 mins:
Medicine check DC20: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29; So close!
Heals: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (6, 7) + 10 = 23
Loot sheet updated ... have 3 keys, I think we know what they're all for, but we didn't identify them up there. No new ones. Assumed the tanglefoot bag was lesser ... DM ruling?
The Keg tosses the magic rapier to Rodi, "Stick em' with the sharp side! By the way Mikos, iffun you're done with that warhammer o' mine, I wouldn't mind taking it for a spin again. I'll give it back to ya if we fin' more skellies."
Mikos Karnikov |
"What about the armor?" Mikos looks revived thanks to Keg's prayers and stands to pull the chain shirt off the assassin. "That would be an upgrade from leathers," he points out to Ben and Rodi. "Looks to be about the same protection as my laminate scale, but slightly lighter."
Rodimissimo |
Rodi smiles. "I could probably use better armor, this set keeps getting holes in it! Maybe Keg and I can flip for the armor and the rapier? Heads gets rapier, tails gets armor? Other person gets the leftover item?" Rodi pulls a coin from their pocket and starts spinning it over their hand. "I'll even use the non-weighted coin!"
