Johann Kaltgeboren

Johann looks quite cross and folds his arms over his chest. "When everyone is wrong, then I need to take matters into my own hands. Look at him! Clearly he was weak. There is nothing he could have done to us. And now we are richer in gold, but we could have been holding a weapon mighty enough to slay the AntiChrist. And that is ALL that really matters. You were wrong. All of you were wrong. But what is done is done."
| Alphonse Veritas, Oathkeeper |
"What gives you such certitude, that you lack even basic trust in your companions' decisions?"
"'Clearly he was weak', perhaps, though debatable, but why are you so certain your Wish would turn out well? I am no scholar, but I can think of a number of ways such a Wish would cost us dearly in the here and now, for no guarantee it would be worth it later."
Alphonse shakes his head.
"You wished for a blade for me, a blade of 'matchless power'. Such a weapon could certainly be a boon...if I could wield it." he hefts his scythe.
"I have trained with an assortment of weaponry, but it is this that was given to me by an Archangel, and what I have chosen to master. Were it even a blade I could wield, I would be at least that much disadvantaged."
"But what if it were not? What if it were a weapon no mortal could wield without dying, such was its 'matchless power', or even too heavy to lift for any of us to attempt to use? Or even simply of a shape and heft it would take a lifetime to master its use, which we do not have available? Or perhaps the blade was forged, and remains in an inhospitable resting place, since you did not specify we must be able to retrieve it safely. Something forged in a mountain hotter than Vesuvius, and embedded in its searing hot rock? All of these things and more, much more I could never dream of are within the creature's power once you have given it that authority."
He sighs and shakes his head again.
"But all of that is somewhat beside the main point. Regardless of all the ways your careless Wish could have gone awry, the fact remains that it was a decision you made despite everyone else' desires. By what authority do you claim such ownership of all our lives, that you would so callously disregard us and spend our lives as you please?"
"We are not your servants or soldiers Kaltgeboren, and certainly not your slaves. We do not live and die by your command."
| Mwikali |
"Wishes are a binding contract with reality, pulling the fabrics together weaving into being the very thoughts manifested into living form.It has it limits and you are bound to the limits. Such a wish with a creature would have the same limits but as the creature is casting it I doubt it would not be in your favor" She says looking to the others as she begins to look over the items taking time to identify them.
| Ihrin Ardlean Dracul |
Ihrin curses herself in Romani, while she looks to Johann and then Alphonse. "Deed is done, we killed it, now we split the spoils and move on" She says her blade still out.
Johann Kaltgeboren
|
"You do not live and die by command, but neither do I by yours. You didn't want the wish, but I did, so I made the wish. I do not bow down to your whims. In my eyes, that is fair; though clearly I should have wished for something for myself. What is done is done. Let us move on."
| Alphonse Veritas, Oathkeeper |
Alphonse looks deeply disturbed, and doesn't bother to hide it.
"No matter what you would have Wished for, it would have affected all of us. I do not believe this is 'done'. You made a potentially harmful deal that could have ended with the doom of everyone here, and show no remorse, or even understanding of what you've done."
"Quite frankly I don't believe I can trust you to not make the same choice again if confronted by ANOTHER creature from the pits of Hell that offers you riches at the expense of our mission and safety. We will no doubt be tempted many such times again before this is through; it is one of the Adversary's most common, and effective tactics."
"If all you live by is your own whims, with no regard for anyone else but your own selfish desires, how can you be trusted?"
OOC talk real quick, when did Johann swap from LG to CN/NE?
Johann Kaltgeboren
|
He's been chaotic good for a long time. I would say doing what he wants to do in the face of people who disagree with him is CG. Also you aren't going to convince him. We each had our say, time to keep going. I don't do prolonged arguments because they just make people mad.
Johann chooses to ignore the paladin. "ONWARD, THEN! THIS SMALL HEAP WAS JUST A TASTE OF SOLOMON'S MINE, I WOULD IMAGINE."
| Michael Johnson 66 |
The heroes loot the treasure, distributing items that will obviously bolster their chances of survival and sharing the load of the valuable burden equitably and according to carrying capacity. Having done this, the Champions descend further down the spiral stair that plumbs the depths of the mine shaft...

At the junction, Johann pauses and listens. After that, he turns back to bear form and smells!

Ogon Fox shifts into his fox shape to sniff as well, aiding Johann.

| Ihrin Ardlean Dracul |
Ihrin awaits next to the two anthropomorphic teammates as she sheaths her blade and waits for them to figure out what way she was to scout ahead.
| Michael Johnson 66 |
Bear and Fox sniff each tunnel at the fork...
The right-hand tunnel has a beastly, feral odor... It is disturbingly familiar to Ogon Fox, but not to Johann...
The left-hand tunnel has a dry, reptilian musk in the air...
The skulls and bones of numerous creatures, some humanoid, litter the floors down both tunnels...
Johann Kaltgeboren- Dire Bear!
|
Now in form, Johann is unwilling to turn back and report on his findings. He gives a bear shrug of the shoulders, as if to say, "whatever."
He looks at Fox to see if he has any strong opinions.
yeah sorry, I don't want to lose two hours of form by turning back and then turning again. I am fine with MJ picking a direction for us if Fox doesn't post soon.
| The Ogon Fox |
Turning back to his kitsune shape, Fox announces, "Either way, we face a bestial predator of some kind. But that way," he points at the right-hand tunnel, "is a scent I recognize. It is a bandersnatch, like that which we fought in the desert."
He looks sheepishly at Alphonse before his next words: "I won't fake my death, this time."
"Let's deal with the bandersnatch, first."
| Alphonse Veritas, Oathkeeper |
Alphonse nods at Fox's suggestion.
"We will be going to every room eventually, I'd imagine. Better to deal with the danger we know."
| Ihrin Ardlean Dracul |
Ihrin walks up keeping her hand to the side of the cavern as she continues up the cavern mentioned.

Before any of the Champions can react, the desert bandersnatch bounds toward Lady Ihrin, directing its maddening gaze at Mwikali as it does so...

Indeed, it does. Jabbing the bandersnatch's launches deals 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 piercing damage to Fox from its quill defense extraordinary ability!
As Fox jabs the beast in its prickly hindquarters, his fist is pierced by the monster's quills!

So how big is this thing, Is it larger then me, can I squeeze into its mouth and attack it from inside its mouth, as its softer on the inside?
It can swallow you whole as one of its special attacks, so... Yeah, I'd say you could definitely try to get inside on purpose, though I don't think I've ever had a player try that tactic before! LOL... I'm going to say that it gets an attack of opportunity, and you need to beat it's CMD with a CMB check to succeed...
