Nalia Malphason |
You want us to go back into the undercity and see who is stoking the fires of rebellion down there? We are committed to the holy order, so I guess we would need to get Aranthiel's approval to do this but I'm sure he would agree as it seems much of the cities defenses are now distracted by the unrest in the city. Do we have any information as to who or what might be behind the unrest? Would you direct us to any particular person? Perhaps we could speak with Dagroar after the meeting adjourns?
I'm blanking on if we had other commitments we had to do first.
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Poppo hops onto his chair.
I agree with Nalia. But I hear you all speak of hundreds or a few thousand soldiers. And as good as they are it seems like the invading force has at least 4 times as many or more. It seems like what should be doing is recruiting an Amry, and now while there is still near two months to teach them to fight. Perhaps you could start with the people of the Undercity. Offering food and some pay in exchange for service! It could kill two birds with one stone. Give them a way out of poverty and start an Army to match the one of the invader. Poppo offers up.
Benjen Harris |
True madame Nalia Dakrast responds If he allows you to do a service to the city which I would assume he would, report to Dagroar in the slums. He and several of his informants have possible leads as to why the Undericty is in such an uproar.
When Poppo speaks up Dakrast initially doesn't pay much mind to the halfling but as Poppo continues to speak he becomes more and more intrigued at what the halfling is saying. Finally giving an impressed look to the halfling he speaks to Poppo Master Poppo is it? I'm impressed. In truth I hadn't even considered that an option. We may be able to recruit the people that are down on their luck but I doubt those addicted to drugs and those who have other nefarious business dealings. We will look into getting the ball rolling on that as soon as the rioting has been controlled. I suggest you and your group ask Old Arantheal for permission after this meeting is adjourned.
[b]Now for the final matter at hand a sensitive diplomatic mission to the Belt of Kile. Dakrast continues Mysir Del'Varek I called you here today because we believe you to be a perfect fit for this mission. Someone with noble blood and skill of the tongue. Councilwoman Valtalos, if you would please present the mission to Mysir Del'Varek and his companions please.
The pregnant elf stands up looking at Jespar, Ves, and Lambert This mission is of the upmost importance and involves a long trek to the Belt of Kile. Normally the elves would have nothing to do with Kile but I received a letter a month ago saying that many elves who did not agree with my father and Taranor Coarek fled to Kile. Chiefly many of the elves of the moon and the woods. I attempted to contact them to convince them to sail to Enderal to help defend against Coarek and Lothric but I was met with unease. Elves are slow to trust and while they know me as kind and benevolent they know nothing of Enderal and its people. I intend to sail with someone of a prominent noble Enderalan House to Kile to convince the elves of our good intentions. I had thought about bringing Lord Hawkcrest but when I learned your houses history I thought it would give us an advantage in convincing them to sail to Enderal.
Jespar looks at Alya then to Ves then addresses the Councilwoman My lady, my lords he bows The Del'Vareks estate fell many years ago when I was a child. I am no noble like my father before me even though I share his blood. I'm not sure I'm the right fit for this job.
Alya laughs That's were you are wrong Mysir Del'Varek. You are very similar to the elves we will meet with. Scorned nobles who have lost their home, sound familiar?
Madame with all due respect how they lost their homes is different to how I lost mine. They were kicked out of their homes correct? My home was burned to the ground and my family was murdered. Jespar looks seriously at Alya.
Many of the elves faced the same thing as you Mysir Del'Varek whether it was from bandits or kings makes little difference. You can use the fact that you lost your home just like them to get them on side. And after the war if they fight for us they will get their homes back.
Except one thing Lady Valtalos, I never got my home back. None of these lords helped House Del'Varek after. Jespar retorts with some anger in his eyes.
That would be your prize Jespar, the rebuilding of the Del'Varek manor alongside a good sum of gold. Lady Alya responds. Jespar looks at the elf with a look of melancholy on his face mixed with a little spark of hope in his eyes. Jespar doesn't say a word just silently nods to Lady Valtalos who smiles in return. Very good we shall depart tomorrow morning and make our way to the Belt of Kile.
Benjen Harris |
Very good! Lord Dakrast says One more matter before we adjourn this meeting is the matter of who will sit in Lady Valtalos' place while she is gone. With Lord Hawkcrest showing little interest in the council I suggest we choose Lord von Eberich
Eberich? Belis Ormaris says with a puzzled look on his face Do you really think that is the wisest decision?
I do. Von Eberich may not have the best track record but who else do we select a lesser noble? Von Eberich has a commanders mind and loyal band of soldiers at his side, that may be useful going forward.
He makes a good point their Belis! Clatton Tavner says Its hard to find soldiers as loyal as those who follow Helgard. I mean they cut their hair just like him. Tavner laughs Not to mention by all accounts Helgard is an excellent teacher when it comes to fighting He looks at Poppo If we follow master halflings idea Helgard could prove invaluable with the training process. What better way to get his loyalty than by giving him a seat on the council?
Belis scratches his chin while the other lords nod their heads I say we leave it to a vote. Dakrast speaks Those in favor of the apointment of Lord Helgard von Ebrich to the council of eight? Clearly won over by the argument made by Tavner everyone but Sontor Zana raises their hand in favor. Its settled then, while Lady Valtalos is away Helgard von Eberich will sit as a member of the council. This ends the meeting of the council.
Everyone begins to funnel out of the room via several exits would you like to speak to anyone before moving on to I'm assuming the Sun Temple?
bobie |
BobE snores loudly and jolts awake. what's that oh dear.
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Poppo hurries over to Jespar. Jespar, it sounds like you've been given a perilous mission. Perhaps you could use a member of the Holy Order to provide you support and the person I have in mind is an elf to boot. Seek out Dunwar at the Temple. Tell him I suggested it. I think he could aid you in this mission and perhaps provide a mentor to Pearson as well.
Benjen Harris |
Pearson and Mac aren't coming, our paths diverge here. Pearson is training under Father Winthrop to become a Paladin of Malphas. And MacGuire, well MacGuire has been trying to get a "real job" to impress a certain person. he looks at Nalia City watch supposedly, Malphas save us! Jespar chuckles.
Hmm it could help to have an elf who is a member of the Holy Order. I'll contact the Signet Master and see if he can send this Dunwar with us. Thanks for the suggestion Poppo. Well I better start packing, I hope to see you all again one day! Jespar nods to you all before departing.
Ves also gives you all a nod and Lambert turns to you all and says Keep my brother out of trouble will you?
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Same. He tells Jespar and he nods to him and Ves. Then Poppo actually tries to joke with Lambert, That's kind of hard to do!? He gives Lambert his goofy grim, Before adding I'll try for sure.
He then looks around and spots for Nalia. Just to make sure she hasn't left yet, once he sees her he then scans the room for the striking yet tough half-elf woman that he didn't catch the name of. Poppo wants to know who everyone at this meeting is, so if he sees her, he dashes over.
Hi I'm Poppo Hedgehopper.
Benjen Harris |
Lambert actually smiles at Poppo's joke Heh you're alright Poppo. He says before also departing with Jespar and Ves.
So you dart over to the half elf woman, very beautiful but you can tell she's tough. As you get closer you notice one of her ear is basically half cut off and she has a long jagged scar going down the left side of her head and further down her neck.
As Poppo approaches her and introduces himself she kind of does a double take then narrows her eyes at the halfling My name is none of your dang business! She stares back at Poppo for a second trying to gage his reaction before smiling and giving a slight chuckle Ah I'm just messing with you, have to find entertainment somehow with this drab job. Shorazzo Mai commander of 6th infantry division, we are essentially the Enderlan special forces. What was your name? Hoppo? Newcomer to the city right? Instantly gets turned into on of those keepers of Malphas or whatever. Hmm, hmm just a little bit suspicious. She ponders as she raises an eyebrow gets a small flask from her belt pouch and drinks from it. Listen Holy Order or not I don't trust people, its my job not to trust people. Only people I trust are my men and even then its so so. she pauses her quick talking So you and your eclectic bunch of friends stay out of trouble alright? Because I don't trust you savvy?
Nalia Malphason |
That must be the last person not named on the slides. Tough is an understatement!
Nalia mingles for a bit, seeing if anyone wants to chat with her and get any more details about our adventures and who we've run into, but she figures she's scared most off with her poor presentation. She makes her way over to BobE and Turngut and watches Poppo interact with the tough half-elf. When everyones free we'll maybe want to head back to the inn and put our heads together over a pint as we make a plan.
Benjen Harris |
Yes, she is now named on the slides
As your about to leave Mayor Featherwill approaches you and is very happy to see you. Well, well, well you all have done well for yourselves haven't you! It is good to see you all! He shakes each of your hands I was surprised to see you all here today! Council meetings, nothing more exhilarating. Master BobE!
He turns to BobE I received your letter upon arriving in the city. I am pleased to hear that Belis was a good host for you all. Of all the people in Vyn, Belis is certainly one of the best. He then goes more serious Unfortunately we haven't had any reports about the Butcher. Malphas willing he met his end somewhere in the wilderness. As for Croft, renovations are coming along just fine but at the moment with the ever worsening Red Madness reports I have had to divert some resources elsewhere.[/ooc]
The Mayor continues next addressing Poppo [b]And young Master Hedgehopper looking spry as always! You really impressed Master Dakrast and that is no small feat I do say. Maybe one day you'll sit on that council, I reckon you could do a lot of good for Enderal.
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Poppo responds to the half-elf before moving on...
Well Met, Shorazzo Mai. I was surprised as the next guy to be invited to join the Holy Order, but I guess Malphas knows best. And I agree with you trusting people is hard; most folks here in Enderal are far too trusting. In Nehrim nobody trusts anybody really. That's how I grew up anyway and that's why I left. That and threat of death at the hands of Taranor Coarek. I guess I try to do more good than bad. Anyway nice to meet you. The halfling nods to commando and heads over to Mayor Featherwill.
When he says Poppo is looking spry, Poppo gives a little leap in the air with his goofy grin.
Great to see you too Mayor. Thanks, I'm not sure I'm cut out for council work. But I will try to do good. If you ever need our aid in the Sun Coast again, send for us, I really love the weather you have there and the oranges of course! Poppo gives the Mayor a hearty handshake and is ready to move on.
-----
Assuming the group begins to head on, Poppo says I say, maybe we start with Ib's boss; he wanted to talk to us anyway and he might know something of why the riots are happening in the Undercity. He looks over to BobE for possible agreement.
bobie |
BobE, obviously out of his element, answers somewhat stiffly but appropriately and grabs at Poppo's opportunity to leave the formality. Without saying much he heads to the tavern and orders a couple stiff drinks. You over hear mumbling under his breath over and over again, too many people. too many and they kept talking. so uncomfortable.
Benjen Harris |
I should say it's only about two in the afternoon and that you have plenty of time left in the day if you want to do something other than go to the bar.
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Hey GM the player resource isn't up to date; I keep going in there to check a name or too and they aren't there...nudge, nudge
Let's go find Ib and make an introduction with his boss. Poppo exclaims as BobE drains his luncheon ale.
Off to the Undercity!
Benjen Harris |
Alright you guys head toward the Undercity, the buildings get more and more shoddy the closer you get. The massive gate that leads to the Undercity is beyond a palisade wall with two fifteen foot towers. On the wall are several scruffy looking guardsmen with daggers painted on their breastplates. You also see Dagroar the leader of the Silent Blades who alongside his fellow guardsmen are armed knocked but not pulled bows. On the other side of the palisade wall you hear a large crowd shouting.
Player resource is updated, and a map of the Undercity gate is on slides
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Dagroar what's happening? A riot? Poppo calls up hoping to be heard over the crowd. Moving closer to the Silent Blade leader.
Benjen Harris |
Dagroar doesn't take his eyes of the crowd What else would it be! We are having a bit of an Arazeal standoff! Haven't managed to talk them down at all.
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Poppo joins Dagroar in the tower. Shouting his loudest.
People of the Undercity, how would you like money and food?!
He waits to see if anyone even heard him or how they respond before continuing.
Nalia Malphason |
Poppo, if they can't hear us we could spread word in the streets as well of your plan. You know, like I heard someone say the city is hiring and we can get what we need for protecting out land, or something like that. That would be slower and of course might not be safe as we'd have to be sharing more or less in person. That crowd doesn't look so fun. Above all else we need to make sure Dagroar's men don't engage.
Benjen Harris |
The crowd of thirty angry peasants sort of pauses their shouting when Poppo yells. A prominent leader of the crowd with a great big bushy beard steps forward Aye! We all bloody do!
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Poppo raises his hands Good people, good people, Listen to the words of Nalia, she will tell you of an opportunity.
Poppo turns over the talking to Nalia, her words always seem to make much more sense than his own.
GM asked for a diplomacy in txt; Better that be rolled by the Charisma character! I'll role to aid.
DiplomacyAid + Adaptable Luck: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 2 = 11 Just barely...see that why the halfling doesn't make the main check
Nalia Malphason |
Nalia steps up to address the crowds, pausing so they can gather and be quiet.
People of Ark, my name is Nalia. My friends and I aren't from here but circumstances of life have brought us to this place and position. Just like you, you didn't have much choice of where you were born or wether you had a silver spoon in your mouth. I've seen it, growing up as an orphan in the temple of Malphas, I'd have gone hungry but for the generosity of the order. Now I have the chance to work for the order of Malphas in righting wrongs. You may not follow him, and need not, but we've been given the opportunity to try any give you a chance to help save your home. An invading army is on its way to our shores. One that greatly outnumbers us. You live day to day, scrabbling for what you can take, not knowing what the next will bring. I'd like to give you a chance to work in saving your city, to be trained as soldiers, to earn the respect of soldiers and to earn the pay of soldiers! You will be able to take pride in your work, look your wife in they eye for what you do for a living, and provide for your children. What any man would ask for, and have the right to. Take this chance to take your destiny into your own hands and save this city, so your families will have some protection. What do you say? Will you join us?
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
This dice roller hates me!
Benjen Harris |
Bad luck!
Honeyed words! a voice from the crowd shouts out Fight for Ark?! What has Ark ever done for us?! Several voices from the crowd agree Why not let this army come in! Maybe they will do a better job then this Holy Order! the man from the crowd spits on the ground.
You have one more opportunity to convince the crowd.
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Bad Luck Matt
Poppo looks at the crowd in surprise as Nalia's words fail to stir them.
He puts a hand on her arm, Um, maybe we should let BobE have a try, he looks more like a commoner than you.
Hey BobE why don't you have a go. He asks the old man.
Then wonders to himself, Where's Turngut got to he seems to have disappeared.

BobE was pulled from the tavern with a still drink in each hand. On seeing the gathered mob he murmurs not more people and ducked behind the nearest cover. As Nalia speaks he shrinks into his drink. Then the mob replies. A tremble overtakes him for a second. Then with a sigh he downs his drink and smashes his cup to the ground. He walks forward cast improved diplomacy on himself and walks forward leaning heavily on his staff to hide his drunken stagger. He speaks with a slight slur from the alcohol that is subtle enough only his friends notice. And pointing his finger at the person answering for the mob he begins.
what has ark done for you. You foul breathed coward. As you stand behind its wall. Protected by its army. You go to the watch asking for food, not hiding in terror from them. Tell me how much have the invaders offered you to weaken your nation. I come from across the sea. I know what awaits you. I saw hordes of rat swarms kill off entire villages. Our local cleric became enraged with the red and killed everyone in the temple. I watched my granddaughter succumb to the red and kill her father. I had no choice but to smash her brains in with my shovel to defend the rest of my family. While I was disposing their bodies a rat swarm descended on my house. They killed and ate my wife and daughter. I did not even know she was with child until I saw the remains dragged from her worm and gnawed ti death by the rats. You want to see what awaits you cowards? bone raises his staff and in the space of 20 seconds giant zombies: 3d4 ⇒ (3, 2, 1) = 6 rises from around the crowd. look at what if not the red, the invaders, brings to you. I have a notion to show you a mercy and let them end you now. But I will not show you that mercy. For the day will come when you cowards will live in fear of your lives. You will hunger so much you will despise your envy when your neighbors child disappears and their hunger is slacken for a few days. You will wish to the gods I had released the zombies and ended you when the invaders rape your wives and daughters. When they disembowel you and make you through your intestines in the fire to heat up the hammers they will use to castrate your sons before you. Look and remember. And you bobE says pointing at the ringleader. you cowardly traitor, send word to your employer you have turned your neighbors to their destruction. You succeeded in destroying their hope of survival. Cowards you all. You deserve your fate if you refuse to take control of your destiny. In ELNIL'S name, redeem your cowardly lives or embrace your destruction. with a flick of his hands the zombies crawl back into the ground and BobE turns and walks away, leaning even more heavily on his staff.

OK...Wow. I had no idea BobE was haunted by that past. That is some seriously dark and traumatic stuff!! No wonder he was lured by Carsis initially. I think Turngut is going to make a solemn vow to smash any rats that come anywhere near his old friend. Strong speeches from both of you guys! Amazingly bummer rolls for both though.
When Nalia completes her speech, Turngut's head snaps around when the man in the crowd jeers out at her. A low, quiet rumble rolls out from his chest and he begins to gather himself to leap at the man, but is stopped as BobE comes to the front and begins his tirade at the crowd. Standing shocked and slack-jawed (probably like most of the crowd!), Turngut stares at the old man and hardly notices the massive zombies crawling out of the ground due to the forcefulness of the man's words and tone of voice.
Once BobE, as I imagine, stares down the crowd as the zombies crawl back into the ground and then shuffles away, the words of his rant still laying tangibly on the quiet crowd, Turngut springs back into action - literally. He leaps from where he stands with his friends and bounds up to the bushy-bearded blow-hard: RRRrraaaAAARRRGGHHHhhhh!!! he screams into the man's face, flecks of spittle covering and wetting his beard and hair.
Yelling full force with his face inches from the chicken-hearted crowd-chieftain, but clearly addressing the entire crowd: YOU coward! YOU get destroyed! Woman wisest of all people and you say no!?? Do what she say or TURNGUT destroy you before Wrinklebutt change mind and crush you anyway!! Big Bad Bossman come and he make you hurt so bad that you come to Turngut and ASK Turngut to tear your arm out... With that, Turngut quickly and effortlessly puts Bushy-beard into an excruciating shoulder lock and glares at the crowd. Turngut tired of people no listen to Woman. You... LISTEN... NOW! And with each of those final 3 words, Turngut pushes the man's arm further behind his back until with the last word, there is a sickening pop as the man's shoulder clearly snaps out of joint.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Nalia Malphason |
Love it! Two impassioned speeches that maybe fall on deaf ears, but one wonderful intimidation just might do it. The shoulder dislocating is the cherry on top! All this because Poppo got us into this. The crowd will either fall in line or chew us up and spit us out. We'll see.....
Benjen Harris |
BobE begins his speech which for a brief moment fall on deaf ears of the riled up crowd. But the crowd soon goes quiet as BobE begins to speak of the Red Madness taking the life of his granddaughter. The ground shutters and great holes open within the cobblestone ground. The fleshy thud of a massive zombiefied hand clatters near one of the peasants who backs away clutching his club and torch. The large group face toward the first zombie crawling from the ground but then more come two, three, four, five, six crawl from the ground. And the group begin to back up with wide eyes some even dropping their weapons in a panic. After that BobE has the crowds full attention and they listen in silent fear as BobE continues his speech ending with the words "In ELNIL'S name, redeem your cowardly lives or embrace your destruction." The crowd look back at the old figure as the zombies crawl their ways back to the Dark Tapestry. After a brief beat the crowd begins to run back toward the Undercity.
However before they can do that hurling himself over the palaside wall is Turngut who easily is able to catch the ringleader of the rioters. Twisting him into a shoulder lock and shouting in his face. You all see absolute terror on the bearded mans face and soon following you see his tan trousers begin to have a slightly darker streak. You howls in pain as Turngut releases him and staggers back into the Undercity clutching his shoulder.
Again their is silence for a brief moment with the Silent Blades at the gate looking very impressed including Dagroar. Well that will certainly do the trick! He gives a nod to BobE and Turngut You lot heading in there? Let em through Podrick! He says to the young man by the gate. You may have dispersed that crowd but they're are dozens more down there, be careful! I have feeling we will need you all in this war!
You begin your way down into the Undercity, any stragglers from the group at the gate you see quickly dart off upon seeing you. The Undercity is a winding weaving tangle of poorly built buildings with the occasional stable one. No one has bothered drawing a map because the Undercity would have changed a week after it was drawn. You want to head to the headquarters of the Guild of Beggars, known as the Putrid Grove. While the leader of the Guild, Francis Bedlam gave you relative directions there, because of how complex this place I need one of you to roll a survival check with the rest aiding. Someone can also give me a knowledge local to make the DC slightly easier.
Nalia Malphason |
Nalia looks around, trying to get her bearings.
survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
She looks reasonably sure of herself when she directs everyone down a winding and narrow alley.
Nalia Malphason |
ps. I can't remember, are we all healed up and rested? All this diplomacy and storytelling has made me forget when the last battle was.
pps. I don't have knowledge local.
Poppo Hedgehopper |
Aren't we a hoot!
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Survival Aid: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
As Poppo turns the floor over to BobE, he's shocked at the old man's story and when he brings the dead above for a split second he wonders if BobE will let them tear through the assembled crowd. He's relived then they claw there way back into the ground. And then Turngut appears out of nowhere leaping over the palisade and accosting the ringleader. At least they had dispersed the mob.
It's then he realizes his high and mighty idea of recruiting any army will not be easy at all.
He's silent at first, but then he recalls a few details to aid them in finding the Putrid Grove.
I think we need to look for a big junk pile, I seem to recall.
But as for finding it himself he's so turned around he starts to lead them in a big circle before Nalia reminds him they had already been down that street and coming the other direction; to which Poppo just stares at the buildings, looking left then right, and shrugs his shoulders.
Um...Nalia you better lead the way.
As she does Poppo begins to move into the shadows, trailing a bit behind the others.
Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
Turngut |
Turngut continues to stew with anger, breathing heavily as the party troops through the Undercity. Anyone caught looking at them, gets a growl from the angry orc. He is in no condition to help find tracks or know what direction is best.
Survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Benjen Harris |
Luckily thanks to Poppo's knowledge local Nalia is easily able to follow some notable landmarks namely a large heap of garbage and find the Putrid Grove. A castle of shanty town houses fused together with the main gate having to peep holes one at regular height and the other at halfling height.
Nalia Malphason |
Wonder who will talk with us? Should we ask for Master Bedlam directly or was there someone else we should be looking for?
With that she'll look around a bit; anyone going in and out? Any sounds of life beyond the walls? Any hustle and bustle in the area approaching the Hovel castle?
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Benjen Harris |
You don't see anyone going in an out. You do hear some movement within the castle but very little outside.
bobie |
BobE need for a stiff drink increases. He has to be redirected multiple times and often wanders away and seeks a stiff brew. This raised more than a few eyebrows when he entered a lingerie shop and asked I as need a strong bra beatrip and the group manage to keep him somewhat appeased as long as he has a drink in hand. He is also a tearful drunk.
listen you all. (Hiccup) now you all have have to promise me . When this is over you all are going to get married and settle down with lots of kids and keep them safe. Dont fail them like I did mind. You here me? Poppo? Turnybutt? Nalia? You all promise me big families now you hear. BobE's state of mind has drifted into the oblivion of intoxication and will take a 1 on the survival check.
Nalia Malphason |
How did he get those drinks? What did I miss? Turngut, can you keep track of BobE while Poppo and I try and talk our way in here?
With that, Nalia steps up to the door and knocks, hoping someone will talk to her and not shoot her full of arrows. She really doesn't know what to expect.
She mumbles under her breath to Poppo, No one got us a drink diid they? Did you get one? And you didn't get one for me?!?!?
Benjen Harris |
As soon as you knock on the door the small sliding peephole opens up and you see a pair of eyes looking at you Oi, what do you want?
Poppo Hedgehopper |
I don't know how he got those drinks either. He tells Nalia.
Then to the door; We are hear to see Master Bedlam; but if he isn't around we'll see Ib the Bruiser. Where old friends of Ib and Bedlam asked to see us, Poppo tells guard at the door.
bobie |
IB, COME BUY ME A DRINK BobE screams and then belches loudly
Benjen Harris |
The peep hole shuts and you briefly hear a hushed conversation on the other side of the followed by brief silence then the door opens. You are ushered in quickly by a rather plump guard The King of Beggars is just up those stairs and to the left he gestures to a nearby set of stairs.
The inside of the Putrid Grove is actually rather pleasant compared to the rest of the Undercity. Bio-luminescent fungi grows neatly in a small garden tended to by a pretty standard looking thug. You see one of the buildings in the grove is a makeshift medical facility were a cleric heals several beggars who look to be sick or injured.
You head up the stairs and go to the left, entering a room which looks like a pretty neat standard office. Sitting in the chair behind the desk is a face you recognize. Bald head with a shaved old face, he looks like hes probably been through a war based on all the scars on his hand and head. He wears a green cloak with yellow and green checkered shirt. Francis Bedlam otherwise known as the King of Beggars.
Beside him are two other figures. One a hobgoblin who you know as Ib the Bruiser, he smiles a toothy grin as you enter. And the other is a man with brown hair and a large nose. He wears pretty standard thug like clothes only he has a yellow and green checkered scarf that can easily be pulled up to hide his face.
As you enter the The King of Beggars also smiles Good! You're finally here. I assume you have come for my gift and also to help with the situation down here which is getting worse as we speak. First your gift a bit of information. I know some information about one of your former enemies. He pauses A certain Butcher from the Suncoast. He is somewhere here in the Undercity but I don't know exactly where. What I do know is that he is somehow involved with the riots down here. Tinboy? He questions the big nosed thug at his side Show them the sketches Tinboy nods and retrieves two masterful drawings on crude stained paper.
The sketches that Tinboy shows you depict two men both human with similar faces. However one has dark hair with a curly mustache and a top hat, almost certainly the Butcher you fought in the Suncoast. The other man has long hair with a clean shaven face. Our resident sketch artist Tinboy here drew these while sneaking about one of the rallies down here. The two ringleaders are the man you know as the Butcher, whom I recognize from my times back in the war. And the leader of a small gang called the Hounds, named Ogald.
Both are rotten pricks if you ask me Tinboy says.
Yeah that feller with the white hair always is surrounded by an entourage of viscous dogs Ib buts in.
While Ogald is usually easily tracked down something tells me you have a score to settle with Mr. William "The Butcher" Brown. The King of Beggars interjects It wont be as easy as going to the rallies as recently Mr. Brown has gone into hiding and we can't find him.

In reply to Nalia - Okay. With that, he grabs BobE firmly, but not unkindly by the collar, both keeping the old man contained, but also mostly upright. After that, he follows Nalia and Poppo, pushing BobE along in front of him.
Upon reaching the King of Beggar's room, Turngut half-listens as the man (to Turngut) drones on. He is mainly interested in trying to catch Ib's attention, by smiling very broadly. At the mention of the Butcher, however, the orc's hand instinctively goes to his belt to snatch up the magical Butcher's Blade. Oh. Turngut forget. No have Butcher Blade. Woman? Did Turngut give to Woman?
Nalia Malphason |
Nalia turns back to Turngut's comment, No, I don't have it. Think we might have sold it but I'm not sure.
Thanks for the information. Don't know if we might keep these drawings, or maybe get a quick copy if that would be possible. We know the butcher but this new guy, Ogald, we don't. Does he really have dogs that follow him, or is that how you're referring to his companions? Do you think Ogald could be turned to aid us or is he beyond redemption? I'm assuming the butcher hasn't turned over a new leaf based on his present company and actions. I feel he'll need to pay for his previous crimes and stand trial.
Pausing in her comments, Nalia goes on to say, What we don't want to do is cause problems ourselves. We don't want to be seen as attacking the locals. Are these two fiends considered locals by the peoples of the undercity? Or do locals know they are from out of town, just here to stir up trouble? How would you advise us to tread as lightly as possible?

Both, Ogalds gang members are known as dogs or mongrels, and Ogald also has a large number of dogs that follow him around. Tinboy, make them a copy of your drawings. You watch as Tinboy very quickly and skillfully draws two identical portraits and hands them to you. Francis laughs as you ask if Ogald could be swayed I think you would have more luck swaying William than Ogald. William, Mr Vildeg told me about what he was doing in the Suncoast, real shame. I knew William during the War on the Lightborn, he was good honest man back then. Took a blow to the head during the battle of the Saphire Ford, messed him up pretty bad and he was given an honorable discharge. I assume that's when he started causing mayhem in the Suncoast, terrible shame.
So ill say this, Ogald he's a trouble maker if you find him its probably better to just gut the fool. Francis says, Ib looks at all of you and rubs his index finger across his neck.If you somehow find William, well kill him if you have to but i would rather see him live he is after all an old friend.
Francis continues Thing about the Undericty young miss, anyone who finds their way down here can probably be considered a local. But killing a few troublemakers probably won't draw the ire of the whole Undercity. Tread lightly still, the mobs down here you could easily tear you all limb from limb. Now like I said Ogald will probably be pretty easy to find preaching in one of the many town squares you could try one of them.
Finding William on the other hand, well probably only one man knows where he is. A man that knows the ins and outs of the city like no other, Trusty Patches.
Ib speaks up Only thing is Ole Patch has gone into hiding ever since those mute assassins have been killing off people in the city. No one knows where he's hiding, except...
Greirat! Tinboy chimes in.
Yes, Greirat is a freelance thief and a dang good one. He's the only person that Patches trusts. If you find Greirat he can tell you where to find Trusty Patches who can tell you where to find the Butcher. Be warned though Greirat is skittish, he will probably bolt as soon as he sees you. So you have two leads you can follow. Up to you which one you'd rather pursue. Francis finishes looking at you all.
Poppo Hedgehopper |
I don't think we sold The Butcher's Blade; it's still on the loot sheet.
Poppo produces the Butcher's Blade, Here it is Turngut. He hands the blade to Turngut.
When he hears about Trusty; We know Trusty Patches! We've talked to him before.
But I say we track down Greirat and find the Butc...William first; cause if we go to Ogald first; this may make William harder to find. Poppo ponders.

The young man with the large nose speaks up Greirat is usually down in the lower burg. But like Francis said he's skittish and likely to bolt as soon as he sees you.
Did you have any more questions? The King of Beggars asks.
