HArec wipes the perspiration from his brow and focuses on the targeting screen once again, when he thinks the shot is aligned he pulls the trigger.

Round 9
Sharmain, not moving is perfectly valid! :)
Zac restores the port shields partially, getting exasperated that they are going down faster than he can recover them. Majko agains successfully hacks into their power core system. (With the reduced DC from the errata, you basically can't fail.) Sharmain, tired of the game of chicken, pulls the ship to a complete stop, calling their bluff. The captain, frustrated at the gunners, finally lose his cool. And perhaps that was enough. With the River Rat right in front of them, neither Omzig nor Harec fail to connect with their weapons, smashing the front hull into near ruins, followed shortly by an explosion at the enemy ship's power core. This occurs just as the River Rat fires, its coilgun rounds also connecting but only managing to weaken the Loreseeker's front shields.

Starfinders, please go ahead.
Sharmain |
"Well done team!' Sharmain calls out. "They look pretty beaten up, perhaps we should call for their surrender?"
Looking at the ships indicators, Sharmain adds "Zac, let me know if you can bring our front shields back or do I need to move us away."
Majko Ja |
I forgot the errata made scientist rolls automatic.
Majko smiles. "It is probably quite hard to breath in there. I doubt they have much energy for idle threats left. Perhaps they will give up. If not..." The formian types furiously. If we can give them one more good hit, we might rattle someone onboard.

Harec seeing Omzig's coil gun discharge is a bit shocked.. Harec squeezes the trigger of his laser cannon again. laser cannon: 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 19dmg: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5

"Omzig, I take back everything I said. We're now best friends, just keep doing that!" He spins his chair around and gives Harec a knowing look. "You too. Finish these guys off would ya, they're about to chip our paint. Dinner's on me if you scuttle the thing on the next shot."
Omzig Iawgom |
Omzig almost glows with pride. No, wait, that's a warning light on the console that's glowing. It's a big one, flashing red. Omzig notices it and helpfully covers it with a wad of klebrigeWurmhautKaugummi (*). He beams with pride at the Captain's praise.

Round 10
Zac continues restoring the shields, while Majko hacks into the River Rat's disabled power core, weakening it further. Sharmain holds ground, swerving about to evade fire.
Meanwhile, the River Rat takes a risky move, flying right over the Loreseeker. Immediately, the gunner fires, taking out the Starfinders' aft shields and chipping away more at the hull. The Loreseekers immediately return fire. First, Harec with the captain's affirmation, take out the River Rat's aft shields as well. This is followed closely by Omzig's coilgun rounds which smashes right through the now vulnerable aft, tearing through the hull and finally crippling the ship! This triggers Majko's plannted hack, causing a minor explosion in the cockpit!

Whew, I love Starfinders but the starship combat can be such a drag... :)
The crippled River Rat drifts deeper into the Diaspora. Just as the Starfinders debate whether to give chase and board the ship, you receive an incoming communication request from the mining colony. Majko accepts and broadcast it across the ship.
"This is Ezra Silverbrew, of the Silverbrew Clan. You were sent by Venture-Captain Arvin? Well, nie flying, Starfinders. That ought to teach those skulking thieves to keep away from what isn't theirs! Now then, as promised, we'll send you the one chunk of the tablet they didn't get their grubby hands on. And after you get that, we get to sweep the station for any other 'surprises' they might have left behind!"
River Rat completed successfully!
Omzig Iawgom |
Woohoo! Omzig was helpful!
He helps further by picking up and throwing away the wrappers from several Skittermander snack pouches which mysteriously appeared during combat.
Sharmain |
"Well, the ship's still mostly intact and so are we. I'm going to count that as a successful first piloting mission. Now we have the tablet piece shall we return to VC Arvin and see what's next?"
Harec |
"Well, the ship's still mostly intact and so are we. I'm going to count that as a successful first piloting mission. Now we have the tablet piece shall we return to VC Arvin and see what's next?"
Harec is basking in the glow of victory when he hears Sharmain...his head snaps up immediately, shouldn't we help Ezra Silverbrew, with her sweep first? Harec says a bit too smugly to the Damaya.
GM kuey |
BAD CHAMELEON
Deciding that you had a few days to spare, the Starfinders join the Silverbrew to clean up the mining colony. Thankfully, there turned out to be no surprises left to clean up. A few days later, however, an urgent transmission comes in from Captain Arvin.
"I believe we have deciphered another piece of the prophecy."
One world, two sides apart
Freedom locked ‘neath neon lights
Bad chameleon
"From this, I believe that the 'one world, two sides apart' tells us to inspect the Pact World of Verces. The second portion of this dreamspun tale, plus the information gathered from the previous clues, points us to the verthani club owner, Karelite Bogdin. We dug deeper and found that Lerecti was framed by this very verthani for finding out he has been engaging in android trafficking, and likely who he stole the tablet from as revenge. We also traced some communication between Bogdin and the Laoite pirates you have just encountered. It seems he has been gathering the pieces and likely has one as well. He owns a nightclub called Kozmos in the city-state of Vanos. I believe we'll find the tablet hidden among his famed art collection in the personal safe in his office. Attached to this message are tickets to this nightclub. Take note that this is a very upscale venue so act accordingly."
Based on the result of a Culture check to recall knowledge or a Diplomacy check to gather information, you might know more about Verces. You learn all of the information whose DC is equal to or less than the result of your check.
they do exist.
The journey to Verces takes a few days, giving the Starfinders some time to figure out their cover stories to blend in with the wealthy clientele...
(Need a disguise check from everyone. Bonuses for how good your cover story is.)
Majko Ja |
Majko nods in satisfaction at the results. She greets the two gunners with a bow. "You've done well in battle. We worked together as a single hive. "
---
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Majko listens intently. "A nightclub? Slave trafficking? So many foreign concepts. " She focuses. "I look forward to learning about this criminal's misdeeds and fetching the tablet. " The formian heads to the door. Why would you enslave androids? Formian men are obviously better workers. The formian does her best to dress like the others, but does not do well.
Disguise: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Omzig Iawgom |
Culture: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Omzig spent a summer on Verces for a few years once, and knows all about the planet. Read the spoilers!
He decides to disguise himself as the servant/pet of someone else in the crew.
Disguise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Ummm...servant/pets wear sweaters, right? Or is it hats?
Omzig attempts to wear his hat as a sweater. He has better luck wearing his sweater as a hat. He practices making cute noises and faces in the mirror, mostly succeeding in making himself laugh.
Harec |
Harec thinks about the next mission with reservation, I'm not much of a detective or secrete agent. I'm just good with machines. maybe yeah! I'll ask Captain Circumstances if it fits our cover! A little latter in the evening as Harec knocks on Captain Special Circumstances state room door. When the halfling opens the door he discovers Harec dressed in blue coveralls with a tool belt banded around his waist. What do you think Captain? I was an electrician on a remote outpost on Castrovel for years...I'm thinking it's best not too stray too far from the truth when trying to remain circumspect. Don't you agree? Perhaps, we can forge a work order with the ship's computer, possibly strengthening our chances to go un-noticed? (FYI Harec isn't trained in computers yet..so someone else will have to make the forged documents)
Harec's cover check: 1d20 ⇒ 10 (if allowed to use profession electrician instead of disguise, Harec will receive a +6 bonus to the roll. If it must be exclusively a disguise check there is only a +1 bonus.)
GM kuey |
Harec, while disguising as an electrician could more easily fool the bouncers for you, then you would need to find an alternative route into the club. The electrician would likely not be buying tickets to get in. :)
Special Circumstances |
"That ain't gonna get you in on a ticket, chum. We're going into a high class club, we need to look like movers and shakers. Not grease monkeys." Special Circumstances checks himself in the mirror and adjusts his red tie to be more snug against his neck before fixing the lapels of his shirt. "You wouldn't be able to get in with the rest of us like that, you'd need a back door."
"I represent the generally upstanding business efforts of Abadar Corporation when I'm not working for the Starfinders. Might be best for the rest of you to play at being my entourage. Every good middle management guy wants yes men around him to make him look important."
Disguise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 Add another +10 if he can use his Profession (Corporate Agent) instead of straight disguise.
Sharmain |
Sharmain has been looking thoughtful throughout the group's conversations. At Special C's suggestion, she perks up a bit and speaks up, "I could go shopping for some appropriate clothes. Do you want Professional, Party, or something else? Should I be your assistant or do you have a different role in mind for me? It sounds like maybe this is a venue where there might be a bit of drug culture present. I could use my Profession Herbalist knowledge to put together some convincing but harmless props to use to try and tie into that crowd and maybe find some information that way."
Disguise: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Profession Herbalist: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Sharmain |
This is only because my previous post refuses to remain without another post from me present. Grrr.
Harec |
Harec shrugs and says, Ok Captain Circumstances..I'll just play one of your body guards. (Harec's adjusted disguise check is '11')
Zac Atrois |
Zac shows up wearing a badly fitting suit and looking a bit ridiculous.
Disguise: 1d20 ⇒ 8
"How do I look? Will this work?" Zac asks a bit apprehensively. "It's the hat isn't it?"
GM kuey |
Sharmain, what I've found is that if I refresh a few times, my post will appear. But I've gotten myself the habit of ctrl-A, ctrl-C before I hit submit. Just in case things get lost. :)
You'll find out the result of your disguises later... :)
After putting on whatever guises the Starfinders would muster together from the ship, the team gather for a final inspection. Some of the suits (or sweaters) are rather ill-fitting, but this is the best the team could muster at short notice for soon, your starship touches down.
The city-state of Vanos lies in a perpetual twilight, and the appeal of the city lies mostly in the traditionally nocturnal activities found there. The club is a short distance from the port, down a busy boulevard. Neon lights flash above various storefronts, advertising everything from virtual reality shows to high-end pet shops selling imported animals of dubious legality. All around, people of various species, dressed in expensive clothing, laugh as they make their way beneath the pulsing lights. Many are accompanied by androids dressed in similar black uniforms, all with red collars around their necks.
When you arrive at Kozmos, a line stretches around the block, filled with eager concert-goers awaiting admittance. However, Arvin had provided the platinum-tier tickets, allowing you to bypass the line completely. The large vesk bouncers do eye some of you as you pass by, especially the bizarre outfit on the skittermander. They take little note of your weapons though - as with most locations in Vanos, weapons are permissible within the club.
You enter the main dance floor of Kozmos from the south. The dance floor extends almost eighty feet from east to west. Two raised bars, tended by clearly augmented verthani, nest within raised platforms in the northwest and southwest corners, while two large vesk guard a door in the middle of the western wall. Two androids with red collars tend a central bar, which serves as the main drinking station. Throngs of verthani and a handful of other species fill the dance floor, and the 10-foot ceilings barely rise two feet above most of their heads. A large stage covers the eastern section of the room, flanked by ramps leading up from the north and south sides. The southern ramp leads to a door, guarded by an intimidating vesk who stands under a sign marked “Dressing Room.” A double door marked “Fire Exit” lies in the middle of the northern wall.
Ok, this part is a bit tricky to run on PBP as it is rather open-ended investigation. Starfinders, go!
Map updated. Please move your token accordingly based on your actions. For example, if you wish to talk to one of the verthani, move your token there.
Omzig Iawgom |
Omzig plays the part of a playfully troublesome monkey for Special Circumstances, making faces, sitting on his shoulder, telling bad jokes, fetching drinks, etc.
In the ruse of fetching drinks for his master, he attempts to make friends with one of the android bartenders.
Sooo...have you been a servant long? I have been all my life. But it's not as bad as others have it, right? At least we're indoors, not digging ditches or fighting monsters on some barren planetoid, right right?
He takes a sip of his "master's" drink conspiratorially.
My master has a nice art collection that I get to look at sometimes. I like art. Does yours have any good art?
Diplomacy, Envoy Expertise: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 7 + (4) = 19
Harec |
Harec excuses himself from the main group by saying, I'm going to get a drink and see what I can find out. Harec then proceeds to southwest raised bar and observes the Verthani carefully as he approaches, trying to determine what kind of augmentation the bartender has installed. perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 I'll have a Castrovel Sunrise! He announces over the din. After handing the augmented Verthani his cred stick to pay for the drink he says, I'm new Vanos heard about your place at the hotel. So what's a guy gotta do to find a little trouble round here? Harec laughs clearly indicating to the bartender he's joking. diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Special Circumstances |
Special Circumstances will force one of the taller party members to lean in towards him and then whisper something utterly inconsequential to them while trying to make it appear like a more legitimate comment, chuckling softly afterwards. He gives Omzig a slightly hard look, like a boss not entirely pleased with his employee, then wanders over towards the vesk standing before the dressing room door.
As he arrives he leans up against the wall and gives the guardlizard a pleasant, jaunty, and very stereotypical halfling grin. "Heya, pal. You look like you're a bit in the know. I didn't see a program for what tonight's stage show is. Could you give a fellow clue?"
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Majko Ja |
Majko follows Special Circumstances to the stage. "Hello, I am new to this planet. Are there any stars playing tonight?" She preens her exoskeleton and stares at the vesk intently. Her thorax sways in time to the thumping background track. "What a great night! Is there a VIP area back there?"
GM kuey |
When Omzig approach the two androids, they appear listless, looking up at him expecting a drink order. When instead he starts to chat with them, they apprehensive. One of them look particularly worked up when Omzig shares his experience.
"Servant? I wouldn't know," his voice dripping with sarcasm, as one hand reaches towards his red collar. "This ensures that ensures compliance. A push of a button and it renders us inert. So servanthood? I know nothing about it. I'll trade my slavery indoors for fighting glazebrus in abyss!" The other android elbows him. "Hush!" He turns to look at Omzig apologetically. "I'm sorry. It's just been a busy night. We really know nothing much about what our master collects in his office."
---
Harec pushes his way to the southern bar, and while waiting his turn, studies the various augmentations on the verthani. However, there are just such a hodge-podge that he recognises only a few - a datapad here, a hallucinator there, various sensory enhancements. Nothing particularly outstanding. He soon catches the attention of the bartender, who quickly prepares his bright orange cocktail. "Looking for trouble, eh? he gives Harec a grin. There's a lull in the crowd so he stays and chat for a while. "Well, stealing from the boss for one! He has been furious for weeks! Rumours are that some android slave stole something from his office and fled to Aballon. I'm sure he won't be alive for much longer. Heh heh. Oh, excuse me." A stunning beautiful slim damaya lashunta drifts over to order her drink, capturing the bartender's attention.
---
The vesk turns to stare at Special Circumstance and Majko, before letting out a snort. "Everyone who is anyone knows the Kozmos has been hosting Lady Marigana this week. That's why your tickets are twice the usual price. You didn't ask when you got them? Hmmph." He mutters something under his breath. "Show won't start for another couple of hours or so. So scoot."
Majko Ja |
Majko nods, very seriously. "Of course! Lady Marigana. I suppose I just didn't recognize the name, we don't hear it much on Castrovel." The formian continues to sway to the tunes, now a little nervously. The battlefield is so much simpler. Find your opponent, defeat your opponent. She wanders around the front of the stage, looking at the crowd.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
GM kuey |
Majko wanders through the crowd, but most of the patrons of the club are too engrossed with their drinks, their dancing, other patrons, or combinations of the above to really take note of her. Otherwise, none of them stand out in particular.
She soon stumbles across a couple of lashuntas making out very animatedly near the fire door, soon evolving to heaving groping. One of them eventually break out if and in her drunken state, pulls her partner towards the fire exit, clearly looking to find somewhere private for more one-on-one action. One of the vesk bouncers seem to have keeping his eyes on the two as they draw nearer and quickly pushes his way through the crowd to stop them. "Step away from the door, ma'am. It will trigger the alarm." The leading lashunta shrugs her shoulder and wander off, and the vesk return to his post.
To keep things moving a bit (as we are running a bit behind time), you have two doors that are guarded (behind one which is very likely empty now), and another that is alarmed. How are you going to get to the back offices?
Zac Atrois |
Zac wanders around trying to join conversations and learn about anything useful. But he is distracted by the crowd and always asks the wrong questions, or the right questions badly.
Diplomacy: Gather information: 1d20 ⇒ 5
"Hi, have you heard about, um... well... um... Anything interesting... um, ah. ... How's it going?"
Majko Ja |
Are there any computers nearby where I might be able to hack that fire alarm?
GM kuey |
The alarm is fixed on the door itself and not connected to the network. Can't be disabled remotely.
Omzig Iawgom |
Omzig begins carrying his drink back toward Special Circumstances, weaving and bobbing frenetically. He looks to SC for an indication of who to dump it on "accidentally".
Majko Ja |
Majko looks to the others with concern. "Are any of you both technically minded and sneaky? I have the first, but the second..." She looks down at her rather large abdomen and shrugs both shoulders.
Harec |
Harec keeps his hand near his static arc pistol feeling some tension in the air. He pushes his way to the other elevated bar and ask, Do you know I can get a meeting with the boss? diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Harec has lost his patience and doesn't come off as very diplomatic.
Special Circumstances |
"Lady Marigana, is it? Why I haven't seen her since we got drinks together on Castrovel. Delightful company." Special Circumstances looks off into the distance, recalling a wistful memory. One would assume it had to do with a delightful night on the town, it was really just about what he had for breakfast. He shakes his head and grins up at the vesk. "Could you do a fellow hardworker a favor and let me and my valet here get back there to see her? Just for a few minutes so I can see about grabbing a meal with her after the performance."
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
GM kuey |
The bartender looks skeptically at Harec, but simply says, "Hey, I'm just a worker here. You want a drink? If not, move along please!"
---
The vesk studies Special Circumstances briefly, then frowns as if deep in thought. "Hmmph, well, you look her type. Small enough for her taste. And she does enjoy her pre-show entertainment. Fine, you can wait in the dressing room. But no wanderin' around! I'll be checking every few minutes. And if it turns out that you are lying to me, I'll just tell her you snuck in and shoot you, you hear?"
He opens the door and quickly ushers Special Circumstance and Omzig into the room before other patrons notice and also ask to meet her. The two Starfinders find the large dressing room empty, awaiting the singer and her entourage. A small door to the south appears to lead to a small storage room, while a sliding door to the north likely leads to the rest of the back offices of the club. Beside the door, the two of them find a computer panel.
Majko Ja |
Majko, not willing to go for the fire door just yet, checks in over coms. "Special, Omzig, where did you go? Do you need back up?" There is a tone of worry in her voice, she's protective of her squad.
Omzig Iawgom |
Hang on, busy...
Omzig begins poking at the computer panel.
Computers DC10: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Ooooh, a map!
He takes a screenshot and sends it to the team. Map updated, read the spoiler
Let's go, Cap'n. Maybe we can disable the fire alarm on the double doors.
He moves to exit the room to the hallway to the North, unless SC objects.
Sharmain |
Sharmain heads discreetly toward the double doors opposite her. As she does she plans ahead, looking for likely candidates. Her hope is, that when her team is ready to open the door and move through, someone will be moving away from the bar in the direction of the vesks standing guard and that she will be able to use Telekinetic Projectile to move an unattended drink from the bar and splash it on another patron such that it would likely be attributed to the mark. She hopes this will provide enough distraction to keep eyes away from the door while they make their way through. Hoping to use a Mysticism check to pull this off.
Quietly communicating with her team Sharmain requests, "If you give me a moment's warning before opening the door, I will try to arrange a distraction. I'm headed that way now."
GM kuey |
"I'll be checking every few minutes."
Omzig, might want to take note of this.
Sharmain, sounds more like you would want to use psychokinetic hand instead? Don't think you want to be causing actual damage? :) Anyway, mysticism sounds like a stretch, but I'll take this as an auto-aid to stealth check. If you jump in with some social checks to stir things up, that could create enough of a distraction to not need a stealth check.
Omzig makes his way out of the dressing room, making a beeline for Bogdin's office, grateful that the corridors are deserted at this time as all the staff are out working on the dance floor. He finds the doors of Bogdin's office electronically locked. (Engineering or strength check.) He also takes a quick look at the fire exit doors, and find that the alarm can be disarmed from this side as well. (Engineering check.)
(Unfortunately, looks like Omzig is not technologically skilled...)
Meanwhile, Sharmain gets into position, ready to work her psychic magic to stir things up...
Harec |
FYI scratch the part Where I stated Harec hand his hand besides his static arc pistol (wrong character Harec doesn't have a side arm other than a survival knife) Instead Harec does the following:
Harec sees Sharmain skulking closer to the double doors. Not sure exactly what the plan is or what she intends to do...Harec never-the-less discretely un-slings his rifle while picking up his drink (rifle in one hand down low not brandishing it..drink in the other.) Harec then walks to the rail overlooking the dance floor nodding his head in Rhythm with the pulsing music...ready to drop his drink and shoulder his rifle at the first signs of trouble.
Omzig Iawgom |
Omzig scurries back to the dressing room before he's missed.
Omzig is neither technologically minded nor strong. Any ideas, SC?
Sharmain |
Yep, Psychokinetic Hand is what I meant. That's what I get for trying to play games during short work breaks. Just like now. :-)
Not sure when I can post again today so to keep things moving...
When the time is right, Sharmain watches carefully for the appropriate setup. Almost anyone will do as the fall guy but she is looking for someone a little on edge or irascible to spill the drink on thus more likely to make a fuss and cause a distraction.

Special Circumstances |
Special Circumstances shrugs somewhat helplessly at Omzig, he had hoped they'd be able to sneak one of the engineers back here. He taps his comm on so he can speak to the others. "We could try breaking something in here, claiming it was that way when we came in. Offer to get Haric Majko in here to fix it? Omzig found the room, but neither of us can get in without causing problems."
