Remember that a backstab gives you a +4 bonus on the attack roll. Though even that probably can't save a roll of 3.
Fadilah says, "If it be within your power, could you remove this barrier please?" and indicates the invisible barrier to the tent.
Paritosh Jumbal
Paritosh largely avoids the fireball, and proceeds to swing twice at the now revealed ogre...

And some of you are giving me their 3rd round actions. Those who were involved in the fireball are on fire especially if you are wearing armor or clothing not made from metal.

Paritosh hits the ogre once and Nura misses both of her attacks.
The sheikh strikes Hanzala twice and Zairiah does backstab her but she is still up, but barely.
Frackit casts cure moderate wounds on himself.
Diliram says to Fadilah, "I do not have the power to remove this barrier. It is a wall of force spell and that would require a disintegrate spell. However, mistress, if I may give you a suggestion. You could try and capture the Genie they brought with them in your Astrolabe."
I will finish round 2 later today, I have to go to work.
Fadilah al-Qadib
"Your suggestion is with merit, but I am leery of the temptation to use such devices for their nefarious purposes, even if the ends seem just."
Fadilah is really committed to not using genie prisons.
Brandishing her staff of the sea, she turns to see who's on fire, and judges whether a blast of water from it will help more than it harms.
Being on fire isn't great, but I'm not sure if the water blast from the staff would do even more damage.
Zairiah
Zairiah smiles at seeing Hanzala go down, since it was she who almost burned her to death in the city. She reaches down and takes...
If she has a ring or a necklace or a nice cloak... she isn't taking the time to loot the body thoroughly, but just taking something quick and obvious as a symbol... what she can get in one round while waiting until they can get into the tent.
Definitely not against Fadilah being who she is, and that decision is totally in character, but do we have any other way in to save the Sheik and his son? ... Is Wall of Force a sphere, or can you go over or under or around? ... oh, just looked it up. It can be a sphere, but it says
"The wizard can, if desired, form the wall into a spherical shape with a radius of up to 1 foot per level or an open hemispherical shape with a radius of 1.5 feet per caster level. The wall of force must be continuous and unbroken when formed; if its surface is broken by any object or creature, the spell fails. The caster can end the spell on command.
So I don't think it can go into the ground or through the tent... has to be an edge somewhere. Could we get the genie to dig us a tunnel?
GMEDWIN
Water Blast is basically magic missile but with water. Paritosh lets say you avoided your clothing catching ablaze.

Ibn Taaib raises his shield to cover himself and grasps his chest, channeling healing magics.
Casting Lay on Hands to heal myself 8 hp, up to 11 hp.
Ibn Taaib then circles Hanzala to flank her from behind, so she can't include both him and his allies into her area of effect spells, and has to choose.
Frackit Alloyeye
Frackit rolls in the sand and pata where he can. Once out he sees his beautiful mustache, once a gleaming golden color wotj a proper bushy robostness that drooped down framing his mouth was well bown to covering just his upper lip. His ceremonial tabard was gone and his leathers blackened the gnome priest glowered.

Yodfah taking a lot of damage opens his ring and he disappears.
Paritosh and Nura combined to kill the ogre.
Zairiah stabs Hanzala in the back and she dies.
Your combat is over
Zairiah
Zairiah is angry that so many of the bad guys got away, especially since they took the Sheik's son.
Please correct me if I am wrong... I think the Sheik but not his son are here and alive. Correct?
However, she is glad that Hanzala is dead. At least one of her tormentors has found true justice. She proceeds to loot the corpse.
I'm okay. We should check on the Sheik. I am afraid that his son was taken, and already poisoned... but they might have an antidote if they mean to manipulate him.
GMEDWIN
Besper says, "The wall of force will eventually fade."
Zairiah
The sheikh is still inside the wall of force. His son was taken away
1/4 of the guards of the House of Hanif have been slain, half the ogres and the other half have stolen horses to escape. Two of the bards that entertained you last evening were killed.
Zairiah
Thanks. :) No armor or weapons?
Should we help bury the dead?
Zairiah puts on the sash that Hanzala was wearing, but shows it to Fadilah along with the other items (a pearl, a glass prism, and a vial of perfume) to see if she can tell if they are magical.
She also contacts Sham and asks if he is okay.
Frackit Alloyeye
" My mustache! Its burnt, It took years to get it that length and thickness!!!" Frackit says his mustache lookingnlike a strand of golden rope wirh two burnt ends frayed.
He says appearigf outta the sands. He then looks about." We need ro heal who we can and then figure out what to do next"
Zairiah
Zairiah is worried about Sham... could the barrier be preventing mental communication? That doesn't seem possible. She hopes he is safe, and will go inside the tent as soon as possible.
Sheikh Ibn Taaib al-Ghurabi
Ibn Taaib lowers his hand from his chest, clearly on his last legs. He sighs, as he wipes his scimitar of Hanzala's blood, staining pure white with deep red. His skin blisters from the repeated fire blasts as he whispers repeatedly something under his breath.
"Damned be they," Ibn Taaib says, looking about at the carnage. "We must regroup before we go after the Brotherhood."
@DM: Do we see the brotherhood's stronghold from herE?
GMEDWIN
After another 20 minutes or so, the charred remains of the tent fall onto the sheikh and the pillows, table and such. The sheikh uses his scimitar to cut his way out of the tent and says, "I am quite winded, Jamal unleashed a ray at me that made me weaker, it was more difficult than normal to wield my sword but the decades of training and my perspicacity was able to convince him to leave."
Zairiah
Zairiah reaches out to Sham mentally to make sure he is okay.
She responds to the Sheik
Well done, but you should probably sit down and rest if you still feel weak. Your son was poisoned, but they took him, and they might have an antidote, so there is reason to hope that he is still alive. Did they say anything about what they wanted? Did they take him to try to influence you in some way?
Frackit Alloyeye
"You look fine, still spry and capable."Frackit says to the shiek ans then looks to Paritosh.
" Look I am not accustomed to be the wick of a candle! Still...I shall grow a glorious mustache!!! One that even a dwarf woll envy!" He smiles as he dusts himseld off and readjusts his gear.
Sheikh Ibn Taaib al-Ghurabi
Ibn Taaib looks to Sheikh Khaldun, and says, "Now the truth is revelealed to thee; they attempted to behead Banu Hanif, and kidnapped Yazid."
Ibn Taaib then speaks slower but more deliberately as he says, "The Brotherhood of must be extinguished."
He looks around, and says, "Has anyone seen or been to their stronghold?"
GMEDWIN
1 person marked this as a favorite.
I think this is after he rests, so as to not to be disrespectful
Sheikh Khaldun emerges from his tent a few hours later. He looks a bit better but still weaker than normal and says, "The truth has been revealed to me and it is they wanted to kidnap both me and my son. Had Jamal wanted to kill me, he would have unleashed a fireball or something much more deadly. His goal must have been something more sinister. Probably, he would have thought he could force House Hanif to announce its fealty to the Brotherhood of the True Flame. I love my sons but I think Mu'awiya is thought to be sentimental but I know his heart and that is not the case."
He says, "My son's riders were there when he got captured the first time somewhat nearby."
He then says, "I must think on the best way to respond. I know I need to call all of my banners and will request assistance from Huzuz and the free cities."
