GM Rinaldo |
Andor creeps up to the cargo door, and when Kara gives the all-clear sign, he starts to work. He determines that with the door barred from the inside, the only way to open the door from here is to pull out the hinge pins and remove the door entirely. He sees how to do it, but as he starts to try he catches himself making a bit of noise and stops.
You can try again with another Stealth + Disable Device if you like. Once the pins are removed, the door will stay in place until someone pulls on it (or pushes from the other side). In either case, doing so will be quite obvious from both sides of the door.
Andor Katsu |
Stealth : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
disable device : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
GM Rinaldo |
Andor tries again with the pins, but catches himself just before he makes a critical noise.
You've spent about a minute or two, using Kara as a lookout to try to be unnoticed from the street. So far you have not succeeded, but you have also not failed badly enough to elicit a reaction from inside the building.
You can try again, or do something else.
Andor Katsu |
Stealth : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
disable device : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Okay that is not a successful attempt I assume. I do not know if it helps but based on your description it is not only opening locks. So maybe kn engineering helps to make ?
kn engineering + free inspiration : 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 8 + (3) = 21
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
Graxzos grunts. "Agreed. C'mon, now - someone who's good at that sorta thing get talkin'!"
GM Rinaldo |
Sorry I wasn't clear, I was being overly descriptive with my narration. ;-) You are not quite making the Disable Device check, but passing the Stealth check to be unnoticed.
If you want to go in the front door, let me know if you are all going together or if anyone is waiting outside.
Andor Katsu |
Andor sighs. He tries again.
Stealth : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Disable device : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
And again.
Stealth : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Disable device : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
if that does not work then: He agrees that they should all use the front door.
GM Rinaldo |
Before I adjudicate that, was anyone going to go to the door, or try to get Andor to stop trying?
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
*shrug* If Andor wants to try this way, I'm fine with this. If these two don't work, Grax will head over to pull him to the front door.
GM Rinaldo |
As the others quietly discuss going in the front door, Andor continues to work on the loading door. Finally, he manages to remove the hinge-pin and quietly cracks the door open. Peeking in, he sees two agents working in the main area.
The door is now open enough that a medium creature can squeeze through it with Escape Artist; opening it enough to allow entry without squeezing will be clearly visible to the people inside. They do not appear to have noticed you yet.
Andor's token is on the map at the loading doors, everyone else is off the map about 10 feet away from a point I have marked.
Andor Katsu |
Andor signals the others to come over.
I assume we could also just completely open the door, right? If yes see below:
When all are at the door he tries to wait for a moment where the Aspis agents are not looking so he can squeeze through.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
If no: How can we open the door completely and all run in to gain the surprise?
GM Rinaldo |
If one person uses their surprise round action to pull the door open, everyone else could get a surprise round action.
I'll allow time for others to respond and place themselves outside the door. I will need Stealth checks from anyone who wants to be at the door when the surprise round starts; otherwise you will have to stay where you are.
Andor, if you want to go instead and remain unseen, you will need a second escape artist check to squeeze behind the crates that are just to the left of the door. The agents have clear line of sight to the door; you are currently using the door itself for cover, since you haven't opened it far enough for them to notice immediately.
Ushi Goroshi |
Ushi moves out of the street to be close enough to assist Andor if something goes wrong, aware that his approach will not be nearly as quiet.
Updated and ready to go.
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
Graxzos also isn't one of the stealthiest people in the world, so he heads over to the door with his pistol drawn. He makes eyes at Andor, urging the other man to kick the door open so the rest of the group can get the drop on the Aspis agents inside.
I personally say let's bust in and take the surprise round.
Andor Katsu |
Thanks GM, then Andor does not go in. He waits for the others to arrive but should he hear any loud sign from his companions, he will immediately open the door to initiate the surprise round as his surprise action.
Kara Giantbane |
Kara moves up and once she is 20 feet away from the door she will wait there.
She peeks around to see if anyone is paying attention and if not she takes out her crossbow and loads it.
GM Rinaldo |
Graxzos, if you are going up to the door, I need a stealth check. Otherwise you need to start 20 feet back.
If Andor is the only one at the door, he will have to be the one to open it, then everyone else will be able to take a single action (presumably to run in, but that's up to you).
Let me know how you are kicking this party off!
Ushi Goroshi |
Ushi will gladly accept the extra ten feet. :) Ready to kick in the door when everyone else is!
Andor Katsu |
As said above: If anybody fails their stealth check and Andor hears that he immediately opens the door. otherwise he waits to have all allies in front of the door. So you others need to make a stealth check and tell the GM what your potential surprise round action is. :-)
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
Whoops, I'm sorry, I missed that request. Adjusting position! Lark, I think if I fail the Stealth check (likely) the foes will probably not be surprised--or at least less likely to be so.
GM Rinaldo |
OK, so everyone else is hanging back to avoid making noise. That means Andor is pulling the door open, and everyone else may take a single surprise round action. After that, I'll roll initiative!
Ushi Goroshi |
As Andor pulls open the door, Ushi tromps up behind him to provide support, peering around the corner of the entrance to see what lies within.
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
Graxzos comes barreling in from the other side of the dock, raising his pistol as he goes and spinning to face into the room as he arrives at the open door!

The two Aspis agents turn in shock as their locked loading door flies open.
Kara is first! The agents are flat-footed as they gape at the sudden arrivals.
Kara Giantbane |
Kara moves inside and shoots at the aspis in the red clothes
Heavy Crossbow attack Point Blank Range (30'): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 1 = 27
Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
GM Rinaldo |
Kara runs in and fires her crossbow, landing a solid shot in one agent's shoulder. He shouts, "Intruders!" His partner turns and draws a sword, but appears to be waiting for something.
From around the wall of crates, you hear the sound of a door opening.
Graxzos and Andor are up! Green is no longer flat-footed, but has not advanced.
Andor Katsu |
I am an idi**t - I forgot to buff!
Andor draws his extract of 'reduce person' and drinks it.
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
Sorry for the delay!!
“I’ll intrude on yeh, alright,” Graxzos snarls, charging into the room. He plants his feet and fires at the agent Kara shot, then rams another cartridge into his pistol.
Shhot red (Up Close and Deadly): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 vs touch for 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (1) = 2 damage (half the d6 on a miss).
Great use of my grit point...
Move: 20’ into the room
Standard: Fire at red!
Free: Rapid Reload + paper cartridge
GM Rinaldo |
As Andor drinks a potion to get small, Graxzos moves in and shoots. Unfortunately his bullet just grazes the man's shoulder.
The two men nod at each other and move in tandem, getting to either side of Graxzos so that he has to divide his attention. Green comes off delay to move then ready an attack with his sword; Red steps up, triggering Green's attack, then full attacks with sword and spiked gauntlet.
Green vs Graxzos (flanking): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 damage (sneak attack): 1d8 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (1) = 10
Red Sword vs Graxzos (flanking): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 damage (sneak attack): 1d8 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 3 + (3) = 11
Red Gauntlet vs Graxzos (flanking): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 damage (sneak attack): 1d4 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + (3) = 9
Green connects for 10 damage, Red has a bad day.
Ushi is up!
Ushi Goroshi |
Bull Rush: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Provokes AoO, looks like damage won't matter to success. XP
Bulling in just too late, Ushi attempts to crash shield first into one of Graxos' assailants, but fails to move the man.
Kara Giantbane |
Kara quickly reloads and steps closer to where she heard a door opening. She then shoots at the red aspis agent
Heavy Crossbow attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
GM Rinaldo |
Kara takes a shot, but the agent sees it coming and dodges out of the way.
Yellow Agent Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Seriously, who builds a rogue and doesn't put ranks in Stealth???
Kara Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Yellow dart vs Kara: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Another agent creeps along the row of boxes, hoping to surprise Kara, but she's watching and sees him coming. His thrown dart still hits, but she avoids getting caught in a vital location. 5 damage to Kara, sneak attack damage avoided!
Graxzos and Andor are up!
Andor Katsu |
Andor is feeling the surge of battle and is very comfortable in his small size.
He feels like a litte Halfling and prays to Chaldira to protect his allies!
He steps forward (move action) and attacks the green dressed opponent with his Rapier.
Rapier attack roll, reduce person, flank : 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 2 + 2 = 13
Damage roll, reduce person : 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6
In case Andor is attacked he uses 'Opportune Parry' and parries by expending an AoO to parry and spends a panache point (so if the attack roll of the opponent is lower than Andor's parry then the opponent does not hit and Andor could potentially reposte).
Opportune Parry, reduce person, flank: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 2 + 2 = 14
In case Andor successfully parries he uses 'Reposte' as an immediate action to attack the opponent that attacked him.
Rapier reposte attack roll, reduce person, flank: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 + 2 = 17
Damage reposte roll , reduce person: 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
HP: 28 (on mobile, can’t edit my profile)
Graxzos grunts as he takes the hit from the sword. Stepping easily out of the flank, he trains his gun on the same agent he already shot. “Yer s’posed t’fall down when I shoot yeh,” he snarls.
BANG!: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 vs touch for 1d8 ⇒ 8
He reloads again and draws his shield!
Current AC is 19, or 20 if they both move adjacent again.
Free: 5’ step
Standard: shoot red!
Free: Rapid Reload with cartridge
Free: QuickDraw shield out
GM Rinaldo |
Li'l Andor steps up and stabs at one of the agents, but hasn't quite gotten the feel of his smaller stature and misses.
Graxzos steps back and takes another shot. He hits the same agent as before, leaving a large wound in the man's leg.
Green disarm vs Graxzos: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
The agent by Andor steps away and tries to relieve Graxzos of his pistol.
Graxzos: Can your pistol-whip be used as an AoO? If so, the agent did provoke with that disarm attempt. If you take an AoO and hit, that will lower his attack roll and determine whether you are disarmed or not.
Red attack Graxzos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
The agent with the bullet holes steps up and tries to give Graxzos a hole of his own, but the dwarf's shield deflects the strike.
Graxzos may have an AoO to take. Ushi and Kara are up!
Ushi Goroshi |
Ushi is still owed an AoO from his unimproved bull rush as well!
Seeing the Aspis lined up nicely, Ushi weaves a spell, snapping his fingers at the two. The snap echoes, growing louder until it bursts over both, avoiding Graxos with a neat placement of the blast.
Sound Burst Sonic Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5 DC16 Fort vs the stun for Green and Red. If Green is stunned, Ushi will move to flank, drawing dagger as he goes.
GM Rinaldo |
Thanks for the reminder!
AoO vs Ushi: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 Nope.
-------------
Red Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Green Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Ushi's spells causes both agents to wince; the one with the bullet wounds actually crumples to the ground. Red is unconscious, Green is stunned! Ushi moves around the stunned agent.
Kara!
Kara Giantbane |
Heavy Crossbow attack Point Blank Range (30') vs Touch: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Kara reloads her crossbow, takes aim and shoots at the last agent!
Expending grit to hit touch. He has cover against me
GM Rinaldo |
Kara fires at the agent coming from the side, but her shot is deflected by the row of crates.
Yellow vs Kara: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Confirm crit?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Crit damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (5, 8) + 6 = 19
The agent comes up to her, drawing his sword. He swings high, and gives her a nasty gash along her arm! Ouch!
Graxzos and Andor are up!
Andor Katsu |
Andor walks forward (move action) and attacks the yellow dressed opponent with his Rapier.
Rapier attack roll, reduce person : 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20
Damage roll, reduce person : 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6

In case Andor is attacked he uses 'Opportune Parry' and parries by expending an AoO to parry and spends a panache point (so if the attack roll of the opponent is lower than Andor's parry then the opponent does not hit and Andor could potentially reposte)
Opportune Parry: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
In case Andor successfully parries he uses 'Reposte' as an immediate action to attack the opponent that attacked him.
Rapier reposte attack roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Damage reposte roll : 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
Short version is I AM disarmed...barely. *shakes fist*
Graxzos lets out a snarl of rage as his pistol clatters to the ground. ”By Gorum’s brass balls! No one touches me li’l friend!” His ax appears in his hand likes magic, and he bellows as he takes a swing at the offending snake!
Attack Green (flanking): 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 10 for 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
In his fury, his ax just bites into the floor of the warehouse!
Free: Quick-draw ax
Standard: Attack!
GM Rinaldo |
Andor scores a hit on the agent menacing Kara, while Graxzos is too flustered at losing his pistol to hit his target, despite the fact that the agent is standing nearly still after Ushi's hit.
Red stabilize: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Green spends his round stunned, and Red is unconscious. Ushi and Kara are up!
Ushi Goroshi |
Dagger on Green: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage on Green: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Ushi takes advantage of Graxos' impressive distraction to slash at the remaining Aspis. "Despite what you may believe of Pathfinders, I have no desire to kill you."
