I think I should be shooting at a -1, not +0 (normally +1, -1 fatigued, -1 junk racer modifier). Is that right? Better to get Orianna to shoot next time :/
"Okay, now that we've lured RatRod into a false sense of security, it's time to beat him."
Orianna Marbleheart
|
Orianna offers each of her companions a blessing, then follows her cousin to the luxury box. She tries some of the strange confections he's purchased, including golden looking popped corn.
She makes an odd face, then eats some more popcorn. Clearly she's surprised she likes it.
Don't worry! I've got faith in you Asterion!
Keyrock Marbleheart
|
Keyrock sits back in his plush seat and tosses a handful of popped kernels towards his mouth. When a few fail to hit their mark, he digs the kernels out of his well-groomed beard.
He noshes on a few more kernels, then looks his cousin straight in the eye. "Okay, I'll let you in on the secret." he says after swallowing.
Leaning in towards Orianna, he says in a quiet whisper, "The truth is, Cousin, no one is well-adjusted. I'm screwed up. Your screwed up. Everyone you meet....", the dwarf gestures toward the assembled crowd. "They're all screwed up. The key is fooling everyone into thinking that you actually have all your ore together, when nobody does, if you know what I mean."
He leans back into his cushy chair again and downs another handful of snacks. Then, resuming his usual, boisterous tone, he adds, "The whole galaxy is screwed up. But then, all that fallibility is what makes my profession so lucrative!" *
* Contrary to popular belief (and Keyrock's words), for most attorneys I have spoken with regularly, the profession is 'so lucrative'.

Orianna leans forward to hear her cousins secret, then leans back and thinks on it...
...While eating the delicious popped corn.

Only two guns, right, so both shots have been taken? Or is there a thing for a third gunner to do?
| GM_Starson |
Three guns actually, so the third gunner can take a shot with the second energy weapon.
| GM_Starson |
For moving along purposes.
Third gun: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Ratrod fairs no better as one of the guns shoots his hull! He growls out and tries to push on....
Piloting: 1d20 + 8 - 6 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 8 - 6 - 4 = 3
Ratrod's system blows something however, and sputters at the start of the track, not going anywhere!
Orsis, being left alone however, dashes ahead!
Piloting: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Bad luck sends a barrel from Laboni's craft careening his way, and he has to hit the breaks not to hit the barrels!

Orsis is more than happy to gang up on Laboni!
Kinetic: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Another -4 stacking to -8 Piloting!
Quig. "Crash Override"

Quig brings down an AR menu and changes some settings.
"That should fix it!"
Kenetic Shot at Orsis vs. KAC: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

I realized after posting that I'd forgotten the the piloting bonus from Laboni's racer. Unless I'm mistaken we should have actually moved at full speed. I editted the post to take the bonus into account.
Radokama 220629-702

Radokama growls as both attacks slam into Laboni's racer. Concentrating furiously to maintain control of the craft, he actually rocks back and forth as he steers, as though the remote control in his hands were the steering mechanism of the racer itself.
Piloting: 1d20 + 6 + 3 - 8 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 3 - 8 = 18
Somehow, he manages to keep the racer going in a straight line even as it is knocked back and forth by projectiles.

As his view through the control bounces around, Asterion tries to line up another shot.
Fire Energy Weapon at RatRod: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Flenn
|
There's no way we can make an engineering roll to remotely recalibrate the system to bypass the damage or anything, in order to get rid of the negative modifier, right?
Flenn finally gets his tactical display calibrated with the racer's weapon system and fires the weapon.
Energy weapon at Ratrod: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 2 = 2 There's a -2 modifier to attack, right? ... not that it matters
Flenn shakes his head. "Still draggin' to the left a bit."
| GM_Starson |
Sorry, not one listed at least that I see, all the engineering checks are made to build the thing. Course, at this rate you guys will be just fine!
Ratrod Piloting: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 8 - 4 = 15
Orsis Piloting: 1d20 + 6 - 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 - 6 = 6

Shot 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Shot 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
One hits (-4 to piloting) But the other goes long!

Radokama curses in vesk as another shot hits Laboni's racer.
Piloting: 1d20 + 6 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 3 - 4 = 11
Before he is able to get the craft back under control it skids into a barricade, losing quite a bit of momentum in the process.

Flenn, I’m at minus 2 due to fatigue and the racer. I think you are only at minus one for the racer.

But he still can't get up to full speed!

Honestly? You guys are so far ahead there is no point in continuing this. In favor of making sure that Flenn has his character available for the upcoming games, I'll just handwave the final 2 or 3 turns of this (Races are just one of those things that don't work super well in PBP unless I roll most everything.)
Laboni wins the race with aplomb with the Starfinders help! As she stands at the podium with her trophy, she speaks into the mic.
I couldn't have done this without my crew... and having to rely on them so much taught me something. Ratrod, I was arrogant to call you out. So even if I won today, I couldn't have done it without help. So because of that, I wanna apologize. You really are one of the best racers out there, and I hope our next race is even more amazing!
The crowd cheers and ratrod, flushed red, reluctantly is pushed forward and shakes hands and hugs Laboni before waving to the crowd, and calling back into the mic....
You got it Laboni! You got some beginner's luck today, but I'll be back next race, and we'll see if your luck holds! Apology accepted!
The crowd cheers again, whooping and yelling at the new friendly race rivalry that's sure to bring much entertainment for years to come.
Soon, the team receives a message from guidance, thanking them for their hard work, and for receiving stellar reports from all four faction leaders with the Starfinder society!
STARFINDERS WIN! VICTORY!
Congratulations guys! You all did amazing and I had a blast with this team! I hope you enjoyed the game! You earned 2 fame and 2 reputation with whatever faction you decide to slot your current faction boon with. I'll have your chronicles up as soon as I can! Please let me know (in the discussion thread) what faction you want to slot your boon for.

Orianna finds herself smiling at the end of the race.
"This was... enjoyable." she tells Keyrock. "And this corn is delicious."
Radokama 220629-702

Radokama waits for Laboni to return to the pit and hands the remote back to her. "Apologies for bumpy ride."
After the message from Guidance and the faction leaders, he grins and looks around. "Well done, everybody. Am off to find something to drink."
Huzzah!
Asterion Neleus
|
"Nicely done, Radokama. Bumpy or not, you left Ratrod in the dust."
Asterion heads down to the stands where Orianna and Keyrock are hanging out. "Marblehearts! Quite a show, eh? Though I think I'll stick to hitting people with sticks over firing at them from moving vehicles."
Addressing Orinanna, "If you are still interested, I would be glad to tell you more about my people. We could even visit with a few, since we are down here already."
Turning to Keyrock, "It was good working with you, and perhaps I will take one of those cards after all." "Just in case", he adds grinning.

Orianna, still smiling for a change, nods. "I would like that very much, Asterion." She gives her cousin a hug farewell, then follows Asterion off to learn all about nuar.
