Craig Mercer's Untitled Campaign

Game Master Craig Mercer

1 to 50 of 65 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

We've lost a few players, so it's time to ask if anyone is interested in playing in the game.

A bit of background. I like the Pathfinder world, and i also like the city of Cauldron from Shackled City. But I'm not too happy with the Shackled City plot in full. So I'm taking some of column A and some of column B (and anything else that catches my fancy) and running a game where Cauldron is the 4th largest city in Varisia, where things might escalate into major world shaking events, and where the PC's are in the middle of it.

We still have a fighter, a cleric, and a wizard in the party. So I'm looking for just about any mix of characters (with a few requirements).
Core book classes only (I’m still not too familiar with the new classes is the reason), although you can use any feat from any Pathfinder books (Advanced players Guide, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic).
The players have just made 3rd level, so I’m looking for 3rd level characters. HP are full at first level, and rolled (with a minimum of ½ dice value) for the other levels.
Two traits (but no campaign traits).

You should be able to post at least once a day (I'll understand vacations and emergencies though).

Wow, I seem to remember an adventure in Cauldron a long long time ago. Can't even remember if I was a player or if I was running it. Ahh, nostalgia, lol.

Dotting for interest. Thinking a rogue or maybe a bard. I'll try to put something together soon.

What about the archetypes? They are still core classes, but come from the other books?

I don't mind most archtypes, and will allow most of them.

I'm one of the characters in the game. I'd like to say that the things we need most are tracking and disable device. If your character can do both those things it will up their chances a whole lot.

I will note here that if we do get a "disable device" type, I will make sure that it isn't a worthless skill; on the other hand if we get no one with "disable device", I'll keep the need down.
Not much I can do about tracking though, that would be very helpful (if not truely needed at times).

DM, I wouldn't mind re-purposing Ialda, by renaming her, giving her another level and tweaking her scores and background if you'd be interested. Her current game has went stagnant, and she's one of my favorite characters ever. I'd like to keep the savage feel of her character, if that might work.

She is a barbarian/sorcerer/one day hoping to be dragon disciple.

Thanks for the consideration...

Monk Sensei/Four Winds 1 - Rogue Trapsmith 2, if you need Tracking now.
12, 13, 13, 12, 18, 10

Rogue Talent allows using Perception to track.

Added benefit of all Knowledge skills as class skills, and the skill points to use them.

@ Levels 2/2, gets much better at combat.

LG or LN per your preference.

Possibly Monk of Irori. Essentially an agent of the temple sent on fact finding missions and to do legwork. Maybe a chronicler of sorts.

Grrr... I would have too many games running if I tried to add another...

Good gaming. I will be watching.

Do you allow the alternate racial traits in the ARG (which seem to be up on the d20pfsrd site)? I was thinking human with heart of the slums (which also happens to add to survival in urban and underground settings).

Grand Lodge

Id have to adjust him a little bit, but here is a urban ranger, id have to rewrite the backstory and level him up though

Yes, I will allow alternate racial traits.

Grand Lodge

Woah, alt. race traits are up? sweet

I would like to apply with "Sweet". She is very good at tracking and traps (including magical). She can hold her own in battle as well. Her "luck" domain gives her the ability to buff 6x a day rolling D20s twice for a round which will help with important skill attempts as well as combat. Plus, she is a whole lot of RPing fun ;)

Edit: I just saw the core only classes. I can remake her without the level of inquisitor if you are interested in the rest. I do plan to level straight urban ranger from here. She was put together for another campaign that did not work out. I would also redo my gear purchasing with the max gold you deem appropriate.

Pulling out, you folks enjoy!

Here is my character. I used the 1000+max starting gold mentioned in the original recruitment as starting funds (although I'll still need to make more purchases.

Alternate Racial Traits
• HEART OF THE SLUMS: Humans who eke out a life in a city’s teeming slums must be quick and clever. They gain a +2 racial bonus on Sleight of Hand and Stealth checks, and a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks in urban and underground settings. In addition, they may roll twice when saving against disease, taking the better roll.
• FOCUSED STUDY: All humans are skillful, but some, rather than being generalists, tend to specialize in a handful of skills. At 1st, 8th, and 16th level, such humans gain Skill Focus in a skill of their choice as a bonus feat.
Traits • CAREFULLY HIDDEN (Race: Human): +1 trait bonus to Will saves and a +2 trait bonus to saving throws versus divination effects. (PFCo: TEoG 14)
• POVERTY-STRICKEN (Social): You gain a +1 bonus to Survival checks, and Survival is always a class skill for you. (PFAPG 330)

Here's a short/quick background.

Background:

Kazallin was born in the streets of Cauldron, literally. His mother died giving birth to him in an alleyway. He was found by a passerby and placed in an orphanage where he spent the formative years of his childhood. He didn't remain there long, however, as he was drawn to the teeming mass of filth found in the slums of Cauldron. There he learned to survive.

Even though Kazallin lived in abject poverty and survived by scrounging and minor theft, he seemed to always keep a light attitude, never letting his circumstances darken his soul. Of course one cannot live on theft without risk of being captured by the authorities and Kazallin was no different. Rather than imprison him, however, he was pressed into service, his unique skills coming in handy for certain situations. Kazallin didn't mind. Life was interesting.

Pieces can be changed as necessary. I don't recall enough about Cauldron to delve too much into it and I wasn't sure how to link with the party other than being "pressed into service" by the city.

Shadow Lodge

I guess my post was eaten or something. I'm another of the players, (this is my character), and I have a few suggestions (in general).

First, I think what we need most is a Rogue or Ranger type, less focused on combat and more on skills. We already have a "face", damage dealers, a Divine caster (with some healing) and an Arcane Caster (mix of damage and crowd control so far), and I would suggest trying to avoid stepping on toes and adding to what we already have and try and find the gaps we are missing. We lack, for instance, ranged combat, a group buffer, tracker, and lock/trapsmith.

I think, so far, we have all really helped each other too, rather than playing as individuals first, something I've really like about this game so far.

Grand Lodge

Well, i do all of that outside of group buffing.

Peering out from behind Soth and Darian. "Soth and Darien make good points, but, uh... y-you know... m-make what you want..."

Shadow Lodge

"Stop doubting thyself. Your magical might just saved many lives."

"As you can see, Terra's got the "party face" thing down pat."

This dwarf zen archer is looking to join. His game is stalled, so I will make another alias, but this is mostly the level 1 build.

Grand Lodge

Hey there Raxus and Spectrum, it's Great Bald Head as a persptective member of your group here.

Hello. I'm new to Pathfinder, but not 3.5. Anyway I'm interested in submitting a character. A Ranger. Was going to make a character of some sort for practice anyway, but I do want to play. I usually can post once a day.

May take me awhile to generate the character, though...

:)

Almost forgot: where do you go to roll the dice? I'm used to using Invisible Castle.

Waterhammer, please follow the link to the original recruitment posting, as all the how to build the character is listed there.
And as for using the dice roller, look in the "how to format you text" button below.

Shadow Lodge

Basiclly you type in [dice]1d?+?[//dice]

but the second [dice] only has 1 "/", not 2.

I was accepted in an AP. I am going to pull out. Thank you for the opportunity to apply and I hope you guys find a good fit for your group!

DM, this is Gerald's barbarian/sorcerer/dragon disciple to be. I made a few changes, namely from green to brass dragon, highlighting the Shoanti background. I can change anything you deem necessary.

Third level hit point roll 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Grand Lodge

2d10 ⇒ (9, 5) = 14

hp rolls

Are you guys still looking for more? i have been searching for a PbP game since i moved, and this sounds pretty fun.

Havent tried playing in the pathfinder world yet, but i hear loads of good stuff about it, so could be exciting to do. If you are still looking then i would write up bg/char tomorrow as this evening is reserved for beers :) as for character i was thinking either Monk or Barbarian. What class / race combinations do you have currently?

Shadow Lodge

We currently have a Wizard, Fighter (Cavalier?), and Cleric. As far as I know (I'm not the DM), they are going to give it another day or two.

The things we are mostly needing are a Rogue (or Urban Ranger type) with some skills, secondary fighter/arcanist/group buffer.

I might suggest at least getting some info up, background, goals, basic write up, even if you cant do a full character until tomorrow.

Sorry. I'm going to withdraw my application. Good luck to the others. Enjoy.

So for hp:

1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Currently we have-

Human Melee Fighter
Human Melee Cleric
Elf Controller Wizard

Also, I hate to be the guy who rains on parades and whatnot, but for you folks offering up monks, barbarians, etc. we are really looking for a couple good support characters, not extra melee power.

Ranged combatants, skill-monkeys, trackers, secondary healers/UMD wand users and buffers will take precedence in selection.

Shadow Lodge

I agree, though it also seems like the majority of applicants have withdrawn, too. I am going to assume that the majority of the adventure from here on is mostly city/urban based, so you may want to take that in mind. I could be wrong, though.

I am a ranged combatant, and at level 3 a darned good one. I use wisdom versus dexterity to modify my to hit with bows.

My stealth and perception are just icing on the cake. Bimbur can fire into melee with no penalty and has a decent enough AC to survive on the front lines.

I have currently accepted Taravel and Felix Mairail as characters.
So we have added a Barbarian/Sorcerer, and a Ranger.
There is room for one more player.

So far Bimbur, Waterhammer, and Anomander are still up for consideration.

Awesome, thank you for the consideration, DM. Can't wait to start up.

Grand Lodge

Thanks for the chance GM, cant wait to start

So taking into account what the players seem to be wanting, which after what i understood is:

Secondary healer
support buffer / debuffer
skill monkey
tracker (already taken by felix)
ranged combatant

With this in mind i will be making a paladin (human) with the sacred shield archtype. That will be granting the party extra healing and different cure effects from the mercy's, brilliant support (soaks damage, reduces damage to allies, buffing allies, taunts and debuffs enemy's. It wont be a skill monkey or a ranged combatant, but he cant do that much damage in melee either, he is just going to annoy the hell out of any opponents.

with full stuff he reduces damage by half on all allies, gives them his shield bonus to AC, a further +2 AC, taking hits from allies via bodyguard feat, intimidating opponents and so on. (all in all he should be adding atleast 5+ Ac to all people close to him, while making them only take half damage, and possibly even taking the hits for them).

Shortly i will be uploading a short fluff story introducing him, i just need to go for a run first then i get cracking on it (numbers should also be up later today).

Hope you guys can like someone to make all the punishment on your chars go away.

Shadow Lodge

Honestly, we haven't had much punishment. I think a secondary healer is probably last on the list of what we need, so if you have another character you want to play, post that, too. Not saying this one is bad or wrong, I just don't want you to get bored.

hmm nah i think im going to write up the story for this one, getting bored is all about the RP aspect and i think he could be pretty darn fun.

Honestly while i do like rogues, i think that i have had enough of them for the moment, and dont really fancy the bard even if he is awsome crunch wise. Truth be told i just feel like doing paladin, monk or barbarian, and considering you dont need more melee damage, i thought going for a buff/debuff char could be awsome.

Is there any reason for you guys not recieving much punishment? it also sounds a little like you guys are expecting the plot to end relatively soon, or did i misunderstand something?

Shadow Lodge

No, we have really just begun, we just haven't even made it to the city, (our first goal) yet. Terra, our Wizard has some nice crowd control spells and Darian our Fighter is just mowing people down, (and has a mount and a dog companion that help).

Oiginally we had also a swashbucler type and yet another zen archer monk. They kind of fell away, though. So far, it has been combats with a lot of enemies, but not really like a boss monster. currently we also have a few NPC's as wel, including a Bard that is buffing. That all may very well change, though. We will see. Like I said, still on our first mission.

I just don't want people to be competing for the same role, especially if we already have someone established in the role, because that causes hurt feelings and makes the game less fun for everyone. Everyone should be important and feel like they shine at something important. Not step on each other's toes and resent their character, or do that to someone else.

Shadow Lodge

I should also point out, the info we have on Cauldron is that it is a pirate and scoundrel town, so you may not enjoy a paladin so much if that is where we are going to be spending a lot of time.

I would definately say that it doesnt sound like you have a melee debuffer/tank/healer in the group, and sacred shield paladins are much different that 2h wielding fighters. That being said i think playing a paladin in that kind of a city is most definately fun, the question is probably just how much the GM will try to force the goody goody type paladin down on the code of conduct, personally i interpret the alignment system with a little bit of flexibility.

Shadow Lodge

Well, I am a LG Cleric of nobility, chivalry, and honor, and a history with he Mendev Crusaders, so I will have similar problems. I believe our Wiz is NG and Ftr is LG as well.

I noticed that you are currently working with an NPC bard, but how about a PC bard as a permanent member of the party? I've got an idea for a Varisian bard that can fill the roles of secondary healer, buffer, skill monkey, and ranged combatant. I can have a character together later this evening.

So here is the paladin

i was assuming max hp at first and second level, as per the rules in the old thread btw.

And ofc the paladin is LG not CG, just forgot to change it from the template i used.
