Ok, so I sent a PM to Deia in hopes that we didn't lose her. If she isn't back or doesn't at least respond by Monday, I'll mark her as inactive for the time being, and then I'll leave her at Defender's Heart when we get there. Which should be pretty well immediately after this fight resolves. If she doesn't return within 2 weeks, I'll pose the question of whether you want to try to find someone new or press on with 5 again. But for now we're just going to assume that she's unable to post for some reason or another, not that she abandoned the game, and hope that it's nothing major or life-changing that's causing it.

In the meantime, I want to let you guys know that I'll be out of town for Father's Day and unable to post at all starting Friday and ending on Sunday night, and I may not be able to post on Thursday after around noonish EST either, depending on how some things turn out.

Sorry, I know I said I'd be back Monday and then I didn't post. Technically I was back, but I wasn't able to post at work last night. During my 4-day weekend one of my coworkers decided to go and screw things up for everyone by borking the shared computer and getting caught watching Netflix at the same time. So they've replaced that computer with one that's been locked down to where I can't install Firefox, which means I can't update the maps because we're still on crap-ass IE7 and it doesn't work with Google Drive, and I can't even access Paizo's website since they've thrown up a generic domain name blocker which classifies Paizo as a games site and blocks it.

So my posting is going to be somewhat diminished until they give us back a computer that I can put Firefox on and they let their guard down on the domain blocking. But, knowing how much of a lazy idiot our "IT guy" is, it'll be 6 months to a year before anything happens. I put IT guy in quotes because he knows almost nothing at all about what he's doing, and I could probably do 90% of his job in less time and with greater proficiency.

Also, it appears that Deia has completely disappeared. Out of curiosity, I checked her other games, including the one she's running, and there haven't been any posts from her in about the same time period. I'm thinking that something must have happened that's preventing her from posting, but I've also had people just up and vanish before too. For now, I'm marking her as inactive. If she comes back before the first book finishes, then it'll be easy to reincorporate her, but if she comes back later I'll just have to say sorry for booting you.

Hmm. Who should that Ranseur go to? I would definitely put it to good use, but I already have Radiance and I don't want to be greedy. Rex could probably use it when he isn't firing his gun, but he might want to stick to a one handed weapon so he could still threaten squares on rounds he fires. Ausk could use it too, but I can't remember if Inquisitors can use Ranseurs.

Anyone have any thoughts on who should get it?

Ausk isn't proficient, but don't waste any loot on him. I spoke with Unruly and he okayed me switching to a healer when we reach the Defender's Heart. With Deia dropping and Tina wanting a break, a healer type is gonna be neccesary. I was thinking an aasimar oracle of life.

Ausk, we haven't really seen you in action much. All we know so far is that you hit things with a two-handed sword and pronounce religious judgement.

Mechanically, that could be a cleric. You could just switch mechanics and the rest of us would roll with it. Swap your Greatsword for a Falchion (basically a two handed scimitar, which is Iomedae's weapon, and a racial for half orcs) and you'll only be losing an average of 1 damage per swing.

Basically you could keep the core of your character exactly the same, but be a perfectly competent healer.

I mention it because I like Ausk and would hate to see him go.

Ausk is using a Longsword, which is Iomedae's weapon. I could switch him to a cleric pretty easy.

On a slightly tangential topic, what are the stats on Radiance? I never caught that.

I love clerics. They are one of the most consistant and versatile classes in the game and come with tons of built in flavor and style. I've found that making a good healer cleric pretty much only requires Quickened Channel and Selective Channel. The investment is about as low as it gets, and then you can sink other feats and abilities into doing other interesting things too.

Adding Mythic makes it even easier to do interesting things and also be a great healer. :)

Stats for Radiance are - +1 Cold Iron Longsword.

As for Ausk switching over, I'm leaving that up to him. But I will say that the really nasty hit that Kel took during his rescue was caused by a Channel Smite, which is a really kickass way to get that "infidel killer" feel added to your infidel-slaying. It may be a sort-of waste of a channel heal, but it's fun rolling a handful of extra dice like that.

I know my posting has been less than stellar of late, and I apologize for that. I recently hooked up with some friends again after a few years, got involved in the Society for Creative Anachronism, and have been spending a lot of time prepping for a huge event that's coming up next month. All the while keeping up with chores at home, working overtime, etc. My time has been being kinda stretched thin lately.

Right now I'm just doing heavy fighting, and I've only been doing it for about a month now. Just got authorized for fighting with sword and shield at events, because it's the most basic form of fighting and the easiest to learn at the start, but eventually I plan on learning two-handed sword and polearm. I'm going to go for a general Landsknecht style of fighting, just without the flamboyant clothes.

I'm also probably going to take up brewing again sometime next year, if I can get the cash together to replace the equipment that my dad and I sold off or lost over the last decade since he quit brewing. I've been invited to help brew a couple batches of mead next weekend, but they don't know what day they're going to do it yet and I don't have a normal weekend off from work.

Eventually, I'd like to learn some basic armorsmithing, because who doesn't want to make their own armor, but that's a massive time and money investment that I don't know when I'll be able to make. Our current armorer is amazing with some of the stuff he's done, so apprenticing to him would be pretty great.

Does this type of approach work in a PbP? This is the second or third time I've handled the party approaching a situation by having skill checks and almost being in rounds to measure the way it unfolds, but if it isn't working I can stop doing it. I know on a table it can work pretty well to underscore tension, but it goes by quickly and easily there. Here it just makes me feel like I'm forcing others to wait while one or two people do everything.

Looks like I misread Tina's post. I thought she was thinking that the game was going on hiatus or something instead of it being her going on one.

Well then, it looks like we're down to a 4-person group, at least for the time being. Good thing we've got all the roles filled, and filled well I might add.
