"looking for water is unnecessary, when one has a spell caster." replies Janrose, "But otherwise a good plan. shelter should be set up around here, as many of us need some practice before being able to setup camp quickly. I have done that many times whilst hunting goblins and their foul dogs in the forest around my home temple, so I have some practical knowledge of what we should be doing for the night, otherwise, I defer to the elf scout. Also, if there are no objections I shall take first watch for the night."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
I attempt to smooth out any discomfort with the plan...
Male Human Paladin 1
is any of the food already cooked, or ediblely cured?
are we wet? or did we dry off in the sun?
"Does any one else have such experiences?"Janrose asks (about setting up camp quickly)
"I can hunt, or tend to our medical needs, whichever you prefer," says Jask helpfully, "Though why do we not walk along the beach for a while," he adds, "surely walking along the beach would be faster than walking through jungle, even if the distance is greater."
The food in the pantry was mostly preserved. What you really need is some sort of orcish chef...
M Gnome Animist 1
haha
I agree. Walking along the beach would be preferable to the jungle tred. Even so, good thinking, Caasi. I had forgotten the lighthouse. A lighthouse is just what we need.
M Gnome Animist 1
Also when we start going along the beach i want my thrush to fly overhead to work as a scout. (10 to twenty feet in the air.)
Walking the beach would be roughly five to seven miles to reach the bay, but I agree; particularly with a sizable group it would be faster and safer to walk the beach.
Male Human Paladin 1
No!! We need Night-rat!! Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-*squeak*-*Squeak*
Male Human Paladin 1
I also confer on the beach idea
M Gnome Animist 1
Then off we go!!! I as before have my amazing Thrush spirit animal encircle us being an airborne scout and just looking awesome. I hope I am playing up my character's attitude toward his bird
M Gnome Animist 1
Caasi, Night Rat is a Character in another game just in case your wandering...a goblin batman.

Going along the beach is a good idea.
It is about noon when the ten companions begin their trek east along the beach. Jask helps by carrying some of the supplies, but none of the others step forward and volunteer. Aemyrs in particular is less than helpful, drunkenly stumbling along, bemoaning her now empty flask.
Because of the weight of the supplies, the crate of books in particular, movement is slow...
As you depart the cove in which you first found yourself, the cliff wall of the island begins to climb in height so that the beach becomes a wide strip of sand at the bottom of forty foot wall of stone climbing up to the edge of the jungle.
I look up along the edge and scan for anything possibly threatening or worth note. perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Male Human Paladin 1
"I don't think walking along the beach is going to aid us any further, Walking on top and along the side of the cliff, so that we aren't truly in the woods, will work though, and save us a hefty climb at the end of our journey..."
"I'm not liking the idea of having a shoulder to the jungle and another to a 40 foot drop off... especially with alcohol Aemyrs stumbling along. The map I recall showed the beach going all the way around so we can walk the beach. You are right though, we would have to climb to get access to the jungle from here on out. we do have the grapples though, so that helps."
Male Human Paladin 1
"The lighthouse will likely be on the top of the cliff, though you are correct, Aemyrs will likely be bad to have at the top of the cliff... at least for now."
"I would hate to get stuck between the tide and a rocky place," says Ishirou, looking at the beach and the high water marks "the full low tide was about an hour before noon... We could get to a place where the beach is entirely under water come high tide..."
"I don't know that we need worry," says Jask, "If our guides here say it is safe, we might trust them... though I do not know a lot about tides..."
There is no doubt that the original cove was a little higher than the beach is now, with a more gradual slope up to the island. On the other hand, the jungle did look fairly dense and a lot easier for dangers to hide in.
Survival or Knowledge (nature) will help you determine the extent of the actual danger...
You have, incidentally, only traveled about half a mile ...
I have less than no experience with tides. Before joining the Jenivere I was much more inland. I'll back up on this. I'll go with what you guys decide.
Female Half elf Rogue 1
alright
suvival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Female Half elf Rogue 1
ouch . . that was a terrible roll.
Female Elf Arcanist 1
Knowledge Nature will determine the extent of the danger?
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Female Elf Arcanist 1
I don't know much about this either...
survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Not so hot myself Klania

And the Elf-Scout Wins!!!
"I don't know why guys you think I drunk," says Aerys, breaking indignantly into the conversation, "But nobody likes a drunka an, an, and I don't get drunk. But I think I could use a nap or a nap. But the sun's too bright." She drops her empty flask onto the beach. She has apparently consumed a full flask of very potent liquor of some sort or another...
M Gnome Animist 1
"Great." I don't know about the wild, so whatever you decide" I want to however prepare the cargo to drop it down softly with rope.
I pick up Aerys' abandoned flask and put it with my gear in case she wants it when she is sober; and hey, if she doesn't then I get a new flask.
"Looking at the beach, the tide will come in at least seven feet with no weather. Jask, if you agree, I would say we have a couple hours before it is a problem but the cliff might not be scalable by then. Perhaps also, better for a drunk woman to walk on a cliff than for her to climb one or attempt swimming against the tide if there are no safe spots along the beach to hunker down. I would risk it myself, but the whole group with all the gear.. probably not wise."
Male Human Paladin 1
"No probably not..."
How long has it taken us to walk half a mile?
About 20 minutes. You have a speed, laden as you are, of 1 1/2 - 2 miles per hour, and the beach is not firm ground.
"Hey look at that," says Sasha, and she points at a flying creature, possible a very large bird, flying above the cliff about a half a mile further down the beach. There are two of them in fact, and their shape is not quite bird-like, the body is odd, and the head is overly large. They are circling the area, like birds of prey...
"Blood," says Sasha reverently, enraptured by the sight.
Female Elf Arcanist 1
What are they? Can I make a Knowledge Nature check? If so:
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Female Half elf Rogue 1
i thought we were taking the cliff? well an i try to peer closer at the creatures?
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

I to want to peer closer at these creatures after having my thrush land on me.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Male Human Paladin 1
I'll ready my bow... "what are they?" I ask.
Whatever else they are, they are still half a mile away at least, and not currently flying in your direction.
M Gnome Animist 1
I suggest we progress slowly and keep an eye on them.
So, down the beach further, or back the way you came?
Male Human Paladin 1
You don't know what they are with a twenty? That's pretty bad...
M Gnome Animist 1
I suggest caution and i made perception not know nature...
Female Half elf Rogue 1
i think that if we want to get on the cliff we need to go back. and then as we approach further just keep an eye out on the birds. i think we should go back but that might just be me. :)
Female Elf Arcanist 1
Janrose they are dimorphodons or fangbirds. They are reptilian in nature and highly territorial especially if they have young. We should be warry of them.
Male Human Paladin 1
Interesting... I'll keep my bow ready.
I'll keep an eye on them if they come down towards us at all, I may just let loose an arrow or two
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
"we need better eyes if we are going forward or back"
I want to climb the cliff. I can use the grapple I have with me to pull up my gear so I can climb unhindered.
climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
I can't tell if that is enough.. lol
