Kolm Godhand |
She's paralyzed for 14 rounds. I figured that the active threat might be the one I want to attack. As of now, she can't do anything. If someone else wants to coup de grace her, they can, but Kolm sees the Minotaur as the only current threat. She can be dealt with after the Minotaur is dealt with. If combat lasts 14 rounds, something has gone wrong, and we're likely in trouble.

Coup de Grace: As a full-round action, you can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace (pronounced “coo day grahs”) to a helpless opponent. You can also use a bow or crossbow, provided you are adjacent to the target.
You automatically hit and score a critical hit. If the defender survives the damage, he must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) or die. A rogue also gets her extra sneak attack damage against a helpless opponent when delivering a coup de grace.
Delivering a coup de grace provokes attacks of opportunity from threatening opponents.
You can't deliver a coup de grace against a creature that is immune to critical hits. You can deliver a coup de grace against a creature with total concealment, but doing this requires two consecutive full-round actions (one to “find” the creature once you've determined what square it's in, and one to deliver the coup de grace).
Not just melee attacks.

It does say "bow or crossbow." so by RAW it's a no go. However RAI I fail to see how an energy blast to the throat is less effective than a crossbow to the throat. *shrug* such is life.
I would say its dependant on the crit, just like the save is. If your blast acted like a weapon I would say its allowable. Thats just what I think.

Rays crit on a 20. It's DM call. I'll be happy with whatever he wants to do.

Ok, nevermind. Asked James Jacobs and he feels you can CDG with any spell that requires an attack roll. So Mer, you gonna do thus to the Succubus, correct?
YUP! If she survives the damage she has to make a DC 35 fort save or die anyway. ;-)

Merdian's blast of pure arcane might hits the succubus full in the chest. She is utterly overwhelmed by the brutal power he unleashed at her and explodes in a burst of purplish black light.
Her half-fiendish companion, upon seeing her explode, flies into a blind rage and rushes to attack Mer. However, he leaves himself totally open and unguarded.
Everybody other Meredian gets an AoO.

In panic mer says a quick magic word (Emergency Force Sphere; Hardness 20;120HP)
School: evocation (force)
Level: sorcerer/wizard 4
Casting Time: 1 immediate action
Components: V
Range: 5 ft.
Effect: 5-ft.-radius hemisphere of force centered on you
Duration: 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
As wall of force, except you create a hemispherical dome of force with hardness 20 and a number of hit points equal to 10 per caster level. The bottom edge of the dome forms a relatively watertight space if you are standing on a reasonably flat surface. The dome shape means that falling debris (such as rocks from a collapsing ceiling) tend to tumble to the side and pile up around the base of the dome. If you make a DC 20 Craft (stonemasonry), Knowledge (engineering), or Profession (architect or engineer) check, the debris is stable enough that it retains its dome-like configuration when the spell ends, otherwise it collapses.
Normally this spell is used to buy time for dealing with avalanches, floods, and rockslides, though it is also handy in dealing with ambushes.
Pinky |
Pinky thinks, Awww...crap! as he sees the minotaur barrel down on his friend. His tail strikes out reflexively as he goes charging by.
AoO Tail 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
Damage 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 plus Sudden Strike damage (if applicable) 6d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 6, 2, 3) = 17
Fort save DC 18 or fall asleep. (I know it seems pointless, but he can always roll a 1...)

Each of your attacks land and draws much blood from the enraged minotaur. He stops mid stride, looking confused as to whether he should destroy the one who killed the succubus or come back after the rest of you.

1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
Adin notices what he has good reason to believe is the staff coming around. With the she demon gone whatever hold she had was lifted. He doubted they would take to the bull headed fool. Not that he was going to let any of his theory on.
Voice of Awesomeness |
Karsa lashes out with his mindblade, seeking to destroy this foul fiend once and for all1d20 + 27 ⇒ (10) + 27 = 37 AoO dealing 4d6 + 21 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 2) + 21 = 35
The combined onslaught from all of you, coupled with the death of his companion, forces the minotaur to flee, but not before one last attack on Adin1d20 + 32 ⇒ (3) + 32 = 35
The blow lands solidly, yet strangely deals no damage. "While you may have bested me this day, I forever mark you as an enemy of not only mighty Treerazer, but of all demonkind!! From this day forward, till your soul is rent away from your pathetic mortal body, all of the Abyss shall know thee and seek to harry and destory you!"

The half-fiend and the succubus gone, the ambient noise of the inn begins to really pick up again. One of the main guards, a man dressed in armor styled after the mantis comes over to check on everybody.
"I am deeply sorry that this attack occured on your persons. Normally, we are well equipped to handle most threats, but against this assualt we were utterly powerless."

Avlar's eyes snap open as he sense someone near. He than says "What happened?"
Did not need a one. Just needed someone to get near him.
"That seems to be the question of the day."
"We'll fill you in momentarily. We don't want to alarm the villagers."

Heh...it does sound like this game has died...Pinky will take a ride on Meridian's shoulder as the dynamic duo fly off into the sunset...
BTW...I hope I am wrong about this. MG, is this game dead?
Ditto, but I can read the writing on the wall. So to speak.
Also, Pinky, I have a pseudodragon familiar in another game. Kind of a "signature item" kind of situation. It's interesting.

I actually tried to respond to Meredian's post before, but it was eaten by the site going down in order to announce Pathfinder Online, lol
Anyways, I am baffled by the fact that the two arcanists have done nothing to try and figure out what happened to the staff of the inn. Clearly something magical took place and I had thought that the words of the guardsman would have been enough to get you two searching, investigating and making some rolls, but maybe not?? I really don't know what more I could have done, beyond straight up force feeding you what I wanted
PS, this is not directed at just you Mer, Adin is just as much to blame. I am not sure why NEITHER of you have attempted to solve this little magical mystery and now it would appear he's disappeared, or maybe he's lurking and hoping something happens, at which point he'll see this post.
