Meraki Hannan |
Had my second shot last Wednesday and it knocked me for a loop. I felt fine for a little while and then I was very suddenly completely exhausted. Too tired to post, clearly, for which I apologize.
Meraki Hannan |
Um, I accidentally added too much to my initiative. The result should be 17 not 20.
Meraki Hannan |
Ha! And here I thought that maybe water walk communal was going to end up a wasted slot when we had no trouble actually getting to the pump house. On top of that, now I have another good reason to keep my DCs up: so I can buff Greenly up in the middle of a fight!
Meraki Hannan |
Thanks!

Amandine Santon |
Yep, nothing like having a full caster around to make it feel like the party is traveling in luxury!
DM Vayelan |
An important update for all my games:
My apologies for putting off this announcement, but my wife and I will be welcoming our first child into the world next week.
This means that my ability to post next week will be very erratic starting on Monday. Once the three of us are home from the hospital, I will do my best to maintain regular posting. I will home for a few weeks on paternity leave, so that should hopefully give me opportunity to post.
Amandine Santon |
Congratulations Vayelan!
Set the pace of the game however you need to. You're probably going to be tireder than you think you will be for a while. :)
Amandine Santon |
For my part ghouls, along with wolves, are the opponents that make me the most nervous during the first couple of levels. The extra attacks along with disease, paralysis, and trip are brutal. It's easy to go from 'this is going okay' to dead in a round.
At the point we're at now though, meh, we've already killed a manticore.
Greenly Baerdóttir |
Hey sorry for my recent inactivity, I've been going thru a rough patch of personal and legal difficulty. Been a tough year.
Meraki Hannan |
And thus does the GM save us from ourselves (or, at least, Dro'gan from himself).
Amandine Santon |
Apologies, monthly changes are busy at work and when paired with a holiday long weekend things get really hairy.
I also wanted to check funding to make sure where we're at.
Vayelan, does our current 6,000 (excluding temple) account for the 3,000 we've earmarked for repairing the bridge or is that amount already deducted?
If the bridge hasn't already been taken out that means we have 6,000 with 3,000 going to the bridge and 3,000 going to the improved pump house.
We still have 5,000 for the temple improvements. We'd need to spend another 1,000 to make the temple multi-denominational.
I'm for spending the 3,000 on the pump house as long as we can still pay for the bridge. I don't really care whether the temple is Abadar only or not. Amandine is no great fan of the faith in general, but locally they've been solid allies. Milani doesn't do the temple thing, so she fine with Abadar getting all the glory.
If the bridge is already accounted for we still have 3,000, but problems to throw money at still keep coming along so I'd like to bank it for the future. (And we may still need to spend on Betony Manor?)
Meraki Hannan |
If I try to use it, I lose all my class features, so knock yourself out lol
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
I wouldn't mind the Ring of Jumping actually. As a juggling performer, that would aid my acrobatics nicely.
If no one claims the spear for themselves (Greenly?) then I might eventually...somehow...take a feat in Spear so we can use it. It's just too nice a weapon to sell or leave unused really for now. If I could only get 'Returning' or 'Called' magical enhancement placed on it and I could easily use it as a repeat thrown weapon.
NOTE: There is a 1000 gps at least in jewelry here to add to the funds if you want too. The Trident is a decent weapon worth a few hundred gps, but we might want to enchant it and give it to someone as a fancy gift too or similar.
Meraki Hannan |
You're proficient with simple weapons, aren't you? What feat would you need?
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Heck...I forgot I was proficient with Simple weapons! I always remember the 'extra list':
"A bard is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, shortsword, shortbow, and whip."
I'm ususally focused on the other weapons somehow. I already spent my 1st level feat on Exotic Weapon prof: Falcata.
So I CAN use the spear if needed. Let's wait for Greenly first.
Amandine Santon |
Before a put up a longer gameplay post I'm going to take this evening to reread as much of the Meratt portion of the gameplay thread as I can. I feel like I've forgotten too many details about what's going on and I need a refresher.
I know we have a lake thing to do, and we have an abandoned village things to do, and there's also Gusairne. I don't remember why though. Anyway, I should have a post up tomorrow.
Amandine Santon |
Well I had a little less time over the weekend than I'd expected, and reading through the campaign has taken MUCH more time than I thought it would. I'm still not finished, but it has helped me quite a bit.
When I've finished I'll write up a list of things that we've (or I've) forgotten about or missed at the time that could be helpful. This is a very sandboxy book and can make it hard to figure out how to move forward.
It's also been very entertaining reading. I miss Alista (Purple Finch), as well as Lady Sittas and Lieutenant Gortius. They were all so awesome!
Anyway, I believe our next project need to be going to Jambis. THere was something I'd missed way back from the Tanager Jubilee that cleared up some things. I'd never really gotten my head around the political structure of Meratt. Obviously Count Lotheed is at the top, but how exactly do the other nobles compare?
Under Count Lotheed Meratt is divided into Baronies. There are at least three of them (named at least), these are Okerra, Voinum, and Telus. each Barony is divided into smaller holdings like Stachys or Moost. Stachys is in the Telus Barony. Baron Telus hasn't been seen in a long time, and his seat is Jambis. Circulating stories are he's diseased, cursed, an insane hermit, etc. Also one of the Telus lords, Vort, has gone missing, with stories saying he's now a bandit leader, or has gone native in the forest.
This explains why we have so much freedom to act as we choose, our Baron is missing. We should find him.
Also it looks like we are doing all the improvements to Stachys we can make except for one, the market. It costs 2,000, which we don't have. However, at one point Onora mentioned we should talk to Baroness Voinum about funding restorations to get the vineyards and winemaking back up and running since she was a big fan of the local wine.
This sounds like an Olivia special mission. She'd bonded fairly well with the Baroness.
Meraki Hannan |
If healing them doesn't work then Meraki will eventually give up, but I believe remove disease has been said to work even on congenital or genetic diseases, so maybe it can undo the developmental disabilities inflicted by ghoul fever.
Even if it doesn't, all it really costs Meraki is time and a lot of walking.
Meraki Hannan |
I'm completely unable to find any authoritative statements on it, so it may just be wishful thinking on my part. Certainly the rules don't explicitly state it so it's entirely up to what Vayelan considers to be a disease for the purposes of the spell.
DM Vayelan |
Amandine's assessment of the nobility structure in Meratt is correct.
Also, I am very impressed by your thoroughness. Kudos!
Repairing the pump house and draining away the marshlands will reclaim the land that once hosted Stachys' vineyards, so you've already made headway on that goal. This enthusiasm may incentivize Baroness Voinum to invest in Stachys, especially if it leads to a trade relationship between her lands and yours.
Lastly, I'm inclined to say that Remove Disease would work to remove the effect that the psuedo-Ghoul Fever has had on stunting the livestock's growth. Its potency as a third level spell also encourages me in this decision.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
This explains why we have so much freedom to act as we choose, our Baron is missing. We should find him.
Now THIS sounds like a job Dro'gan can sink his teeth into! Send me ahead again to scout the Baron's whereabouts! I'm sure I can save us some time again if I blend in properly.
Amandine Santon |
@Dro'gan: Jambis is deserted (apparently), so blending in would either be incredibly easy or incredibly hard depending on how you look at it. :D
So in regular language... Amandine is wondering if some of the forest people could be brought in to work on the market, the final upgrade, or if Stachys + the workers from Okerra and so forth are still a labor surplus.
Amandine Santon |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
Here are the remaining things I found from the re-reading that will or might be valuable in the future.
Missions:
*Find work for the vagrants in the Beggarwood
*Investigate the ghost town of Jambis and its seemingly vanished lord, Baron Telus
*Visit the shantytown of New Towne to assess the residents' needs
*Look into the Night Swan's purported connections to Lauchlein Lake
*Sotto, a village in Baroness Voinum's lands, has been having trouble paying its taxes to the Count. Look into their plight?
*Giant catfish in Lake Pensaris? Catching it could endear us to the locals.
I'd forgotten about a couple of these, New Towne and Sotto. I'd also blurred the 2 missions at the Lakes into a single one and only vaguely remembered there was some Night Swan somethings about it.
A few things to remember:
*Greenly cracked Martella's secret code and can use it. Good in case we need to send any secret messages.
*Gusairne wear an Abadaran Holy Symbol so presumably is one.
*Interestingly he's also at odds with Archbanker Paril over his tax collection methods.
*We may be able to get more money for development from Baroness Voinum.
*We actually did invite Lady Marthane, our top suspect to be the Night Swan to come stay at Betony Manor at the end of the Tanager Jubilee. Not followed up on.
*Amandine arranged with Count Lotheed to talk further so he could advice her on running an estate in Meratt. Not followed up on, but Amandine has now put this into motion.
*Lotheed likes "intellectual" gifts. Amandine has something on order now.
*We have a few doses of that memory erasing poison.
I want to hire Alista (Purple Finch)! She was awesome!
We should see if Lady Sittas and Lieutenant Gortius are still in the county and reconnect with them. They're a nutty pair. We need to keep them as friends since they seem to be hijinks friendly.
Also, who has the Envoy Ring at this point? Looks like Greenly had it first, then it went to Chana. But now Chana is gone and Greenly is back so we should check to make sure we don't lose track of it.
Lady Olivia Vernisant |
Hey guys, I'm sorry for my absence. I'm having a hard time right now, and I'm feeling overwhelmed by everything. I hope to catch up and post today, but I can't guarantee it.
Amandine Santon |
No worries Olivia, we have you covered here. There will probably be a couple rounds of discussion about what to do next and so forth, so nothing critical missed real soon.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
As long as you come back, take your time!
Do what needs doing. Real life is always more important!
=)
Amandine Santon |
No worries at all, I hope the move is a smooth one!
I'll try to get a gameplay post up today concerning one more little piece of business.
I've been in a work training for the past week, which is very time consuming, and next week will be the same. On top of that we're having the totally insane heat wave up here in the Northwest for the next few days. All time record highs up to 115 are possible! That might put a crimp in my mood.
Dro'gan 'Manyfaces' |
Did we ever decide upon the disposition of the magical Holy Spear? If not and nobody else wants it, the Dro,gan will take it. I don’t have a magic weapon yet and it makes sense not to sell such a useful item.
Amandine Santon |
I don't think anyone laid claim to it so take it if it's free. I I agree we should hang on to it.
Meraki Hannan |
I will be traveling for a conference on Wednesday, the 11th, and will not be home until the afternoon of Sunday the 15th.
Meraki Hannan |
Hey everyone. This last week I had multiple exposures to covid and, while my rapid test came back negative, I am definitely sick with something and have very little energy. I am waiting on a PCR test to let me know for sure what I do or don't have.
Meraki Hannan |
Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth. I do indeed have covid, but am slowly getting back to feeling like a human being again. I'll try and get back up to speed again soon.
Lady Olivia Vernisant |
I wish you well on your recovery, Meraki. One of my best friends came down with Covid, and a difficult part of her recovery was to take things slowly instead of just jumping back into her work.
Meraki Hannan |
Yeah, I tried that and it didn't work out so well. I am actually feeling better now, so I'm working on catching up on the two weeks of posts that piled up in all my games.
