Thanks for the clarification, Iniga, I will post my thoughts (probably through Margherita) on this. Since you aren't asking for much, I think the investment will be minimal.
I just want to make sure I understand though - Hearth is where you want to send the priest and have Marg stay right? I saw Forge in there a few times, but Forge doesn't have as much going on (that you know about)
Forge is the army town where the Firenze family lived nearby
And I'm sure Iniga has been to Forge as well (maybe trained as a skald as well?)
But I'm assuming (and correct me if I'm wrong) that we're all talking about Hearth (the orad unrest, the inquisitors, etc)
So let me know that your plans are centered around Hearth and I will update accordingly (your question too Wamblee)
But no rush, as I will be only sporadically available the next few days. Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

alrighty, with the priest and the mercs accounted for, I think the last order of business is to figure out where you are going next (that conversation had started, but not finished)
1) Are you staying the rest of the Meet? Continuing the competitions? Any other goals you have before the Meet is over?
2) And then where are you going next? Hearth is where the priest + mercs are going, so remaining choices might include: north to the Fey ; southeast to the breathless valley and Light ; or heck, going south back to Branch would be a good place to study the Hand more deeply.
Feel free to discuss here or RP it. Once that is done, I will update to a new day (it's late evening right now in-game), probably tomorrow or Monday.
Wamblee Firenze |
My suggestion:
1. Finish the Meet, do competition
2. Breathless Valley
3. Fey
4. Hearth

I'm still around, I just haven't had anything to add recently. I agree with Wamblee's plan.
Iniga v'Breda |
I wouldn't mind popping back into Branch for a quick research trip on the Hand if it was on the way but otherwise I agree with Wamblee's list

UMD Check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Oops I'll just quickly roll my Hand UMD check here as I forgot to add it to my post.

I'm fine with a research detour. :)

Iniga, your first attempt with the Hand is a success! You point and concentrate on the middle of the clearing, and a half-sphere of flame and heat explodes into existence for a moment, then disappears. The yellow grass has been charred black in a perfect circle.
Success #1. you can cast fireball 1/day at minimum caster level: 5d6 damage, DC 13. With practice, you will be able to get it more powerful, like what Maht was doing.
Hubristic Efreeti |
Also, Wamblee, I forgot about your question from the previous page, but I don't think we need to come up with a pretext for the mercs anymore (since Iniga and Marg now understand each other)
Short answer is none of you have ever been to Hearth (except Iniga) ad Iniga has been away for several weeks, so you are unsure what specific threats there would be (we could generalize to bandits etc, which almost always exist, but that's about it)
Wamblee Firenze |
I approve of Iniga's research.
That's fine regarding Hearth. Marg is on board it seems!

samen, for a creation duel, from the campaign page:
Creation - roughly corresponds to Transmutation. The most "creative" of the duels, this calls for a medium to be sculpted, shaped, etc by magic. Opposed (appropriate) skill checks--along with magical spells--are used to determine the winner. Setting = choosing the medium to be shaped/crafted.
So:
1) you get to choose the material or object that you are shaping or crafting. This has to involve your magic somehow. You can each sculpt a different thing, or you can competitively shape the same thing until time is called.
2) If this is too open-ended and/or not fun, feel free to let me know because this is completely a work in progress.
Hubristic Efreeti |
Wamblee: for the race, I need a few things rolled/posted in Gameplay:
1) two constitution rolls vs fatigue
2) post how fast your base speed is
3) are you using any ki, other abilities, etc to help with your movement
4) as a mini skill challenge, roll 3 different skills that could relate to the race (acrobatics is certainly 1 you could do, avoiding branches etc)
Wamblee Firenze |
I'll post tomorrow.

I may not be available to post at all tomorrow.

Fair. I was occupied yesterday.
Hubristic Efreeti |
Heading into the weekend, I'd like to fast forward time to the end of the Meet. So Saturday I'll update a new day, Sunday a new day, etc, so by Monday I think we'll be at the end of the Meet. During each of these days, summarize a few things you are doing that day. We'll do quick rolls for hunting and marathons etc if necessary.
So let me know:
1) What is occupying your time (games, marathons, duels, personal stuff, etc)
2) any goals you have before the end of the meet
3) and to confirm we are headed to Branch after this
Iniga v'Breda |
I dont have much to occupy my time. I'll probably want to catch up with the priest again and see if he has anything more to say but that shouldn't take up too much time. I can also catch up with Margherita but I don't have anything new to add / update her on.
I cannot really participate in any marathons or magical duels since Iniga doesn't have any spells or special abilities that would allow her to do well (compared with Samen and Wamblee). She is good at strength challenges / games and would probably try and humble any oread who dismisses her at first glance as 'weak' but I wouldn't call that a 'personal goal' really.
I believe that we are heading to Branch after this. I don't think we will stay long, but Iniga wants to do a bit of quick research before we head onto the Breathless Valley.
Wamblee Firenze |
Are there any other athletic competitions that Wamblee hasn't participated in yet on today?
Samen Vloe Firenze |
Samen would finish the course of magic dueling and try to stay as far away from the elemental god-thing as possible.
Wamblee Firenze |
He'll give it a go!
Hubristic Efreeti |
Alright Wamblee, here are the rolls I need for the events:
spear throwing (1 throwing attack roll)
hunting (1 survival check)
(fort save DC 8 from running and activities vs fatigue)
archery (1 ranged attack roll)
dancing (1 dexterity check)
climbing (1 climb or acrobatics check)
(fort save DC 10 vs fatigue)
lifting (1 strength check)
(DC 12 fort save vs fatigue)
and finally ending with orean wrestling (3 CMB, and post your current CMD)

Don't mind this, I'm just making a list because I'll definitely forget things otherwise.
Things to Research
People:
-Inquisitor Locatelli (who you already knew about)
-Inquisitor Ky La (a fanatical undine inquisitor of Volcano)
-Mr. Abacus (a sylph on the Hearth Council, essentially Treasurer of Hearth)
Organisations:
Efreeti Tango, the organisation, the rituals, and its goals
Religion:
-Learn more about Divination Visions experienced by Iniga - what they are and where they come from.
-Story of Volcano and the Ifrits
-The Hand (learning more command words and what they do (eg Irae Domini Vulcunus omni malo virentia).
-Other religious artifacts (the Temple will either want them or use them and hey, Iniga wouldn't mind being a little Indiana Jonesey :) )
Magic:
-Gem Magic
Other stuff to investigate:
Who the heck are those revolutionary oreads active in Hearth(?) that triggered the Hand leaving the city in the first place.
Realistically, I probably won't get answers to everything on this list, but I might be able to cross a few things off :)
Hubristic Efreeti |
1) You actually met Inquisitor Ky La once. Or rather, you saw him but never interacted with him. Though he wore the robes of an inquisitor, his thick-spectacle gaze reminded you more of a scientist than an el of Volcano. While you were still enrolled at the Duello Poeti, he came one day.
He singled out a nervous sylph student, the el having just started the class that day. The inquisitor had a loud, jovial voice, and asked strange, personal questions to the boy, then thanked everyone for their time and suddenly left.
You heard his name (like 'key' and 'la) whispered among a few of the students, those who came from rich families in the Temple;s favor.
So: you know what he looks like (spectacles, older/middle aged, undine), where he is (the Temple), and his relative status (very powerful High Inquisitor, one of eight in the city of Hearth)
2) You don't recall anything else about Abacus other than the broad strokes that are common knowledge (he acts as Treasurer for the council, he is a sylph)
3) If you are spending the rest of the asking around about oreads in Hearth, we can call that taking 10, which would be good enough to get this from a drunken sylph alchemist who recently fled the city :
--A new Quiet Elder has been planted in Hearth, in a poor district called the Steam Slums. Since the appearance of the Elder, the Steam has vanished, and oread migrants and outcasts from all over the city have been moving and settling in to the new neighborhood simply called the Stems.
(Wamblee or someone else familiar with oread culture could tell you at least the basics: a Quiet Elder is roughly a demigod to oreads, fiercely guarded. Other, older Quiet Elders are scattered throughout Forest in the northern part of the land)

Hmm so just trying to get the chain of events right
Two sylphs, an oread, and an undine are mercenaries within Hearth. They get lucky fighting and defeating darkspawn that had somehow infiltrated the Temple. They become famous as a result and begin fomenting rebellious thoughts against the Inquisition.
Then a Quiet Elder is planted into a district called the Steam Slums within Hearth. Since the Elder appeared, the Steam has vanished and oreads are migrating from all over the city and settling down into the new district called Stems.
This is causing further conflict (I assume) because ifrits feel that the oreads are 'taking' ifrit land within a major city in Hearth and feel that there is a threat of that influence spreading further.
So the priest is sent with the Hand to bring the oread tribes to heel, allowing ifrits to regain firm control over the city and deal with the issue of Stems and the rebellious mercenaries.
Do I have this roughly correct?

Apologies for delay. This week has been tricky for me getting to update pbp.

A heads up. I'll be at a con for most of today and playing D&D for most of tomorrow.
Wamblee Firenze |
Pretty tired now. I've a short post up.
What does Wamblee know of the boons system? What could be asked for, by whom, etc?
Hubristic Efreeti |
It's more of a "read the chieftains" kind of thing, not really bound by exact rules. Odakotah the merchant told you a few tales, such as a champion asking for the life of his murderous brother to be spared ; or a desperate villager asking for expensive medicine for his people ; calling upon the warriors of various tribes to rise up and defeat a common foe (like a local demon, etc)
