The dark clouds hung over the village of Ardfell like they did since the adventurers came. There was never any rain, only a sense of fear. The fields were fallow and the mines infested with giant spiders and worse. The sounds from beyond the walls were unnatural and nowadays people hid once the faint rays of sun set. The shadows were long in the village square as all the townspeople looked to the seer.
"Much like a pebble disturbs a still pond, so too have these adventurers disturbed our lives. These self-proclaimed 'saviors' have thrust us into a dangerous predicament and we are left to deal with it ourselves. I require four of you to go forth and save our village."
So spoke the seer of Ardfell. The townspeople looked amongst themselves, trepidation in their eyes. What would happen next and who would bear this burden?

I'm looking for 4 individuals for this game. Characters start as 1st level NPCs (adept, aristocrat, commoner, expert or warrior). 15 pt. buy. 260 starting gold.
Core races only. Ardfell is a village of 93 men, women and children. It's not very diverse race-wise.
I'll close recruitment tomorrow evening or when I have four people.

I am interested and I'll give it some thought. NPC to hero is one of my favourite game starts so this sounds right up my street.
As for which NPC, not sure yet, but probably the expert since I generally play spellcasters in the other pbp games. An elderly blacksmith with a secret love of arcane magic - if you will allow us to use the age changes to stats too? Then he will be the father who can hand over the forge to his his young son.
Let me know.
He could become the wizard if all goes according to plan.
Cheers
EDIT: Here is one possible character and his stats, not too optimised really.

I have an idea for sort of a conflicted cleric character I would like to play. Are you using Golarion for your setting? (If not, then which gods are you using?) I would like to follow a god like Pharasma. The character would be lawful neutral (with good tendencies) and would often find himself conflicted about the balance of life and death. He also finds himself more attuned with negative energy instead of positive energy -- which concerns him since negative energy typically is associated with evil beings.
I believe adept would be the best fit for him.

@Kor: I'm using my usual homebrew world of Vesaria. I'll be using the Pathfinder Pantheon, minor gods from Gods and Magic included. The only notable differences (at this time) is that Urgathoa's following is more of a cult with spreading undeath being their primary concern, Aroden's impact was much less than in Golarion (he's more akin to St. Cuthbert from 3.5), Arazni was just a mortal and remained that way, and there is no Razmir. And Nethys dwells in the world somewhere.
@kolpo: It's usually prefer that you put your character in your profile, so I can easily look up something if I need to. But, if you have a way of getting it to me that's easier for you, I won't have a problem with that.
I should probably mention that I'd like to keep a fairly quick pace. My other homebrew PbP suffers from moments of non-posting.

I'm not looking for a whole lot of backstory since the characters are just NPC classes. They really shouldn't have any motivation to be heroes unless something forces them to be (like what's going on in the village). So, just a little something to let me know what makes the character tick.
I think I first misunderstood what kind of story I should write, This is my new story:
Bonk was born in Ardfell in a farm, when he was little slipped a rat in their house. Just before that rat would bit him took he a big stick and hit the rat on the head, making a "bonk" sound. Since then calls everyone in the village him Bonk.
Bonk loves to help his parents on the farm, because Bonk is strong
was he asked to help keep order in the village. Bonk works part time as town militia. But until recently was Bonk only called to drive a rat away or to help a kitten get out of the tree. But now seems everything to be changing.
Bonk constantly works, he hates having nothing to do. This makes him liked in the farm and the town militia but also causes Bonk to have no private life.
Bonk is a personal friend of the blacksmith, the blacksmith who made a weapon ideal for a person with Bonk his strenght, the bastard sword.
I also made an allias with a more detailed profile for this campaign.

Kallin knows little of life beyond the Temple of Pharasma. As early as he can remember, he has always lived at the temple. He knows nothing of his parents, and none of the priest have any information on them.
Kallin has done his best to be a good acolyte in training. He has learnt a lot of the teachings of the priests about Pharasma. Kallin has had difficulty understanding the balance between life and death. Furthermore, Kallin's practice with the divine arts has revealed that he seem very attuned with negative planar magic / necromatic magic. Kallin generally prefers to avoid using magic of this type, but when he gets angry or upset, then he usually calls upon this "dark gift".
Part of Kallin's training has been to travel for a few months and find those in need and help them in the name of Pharasma. Kallin has recently journied to the small village of Ardfell, where he has not found a great calling for one with his talents.

How do you plan to move us from NPC to PC. Is this going to be like Treasure Hunt/Under Illefarn or do you have your own ideas?
Also Tresmeer needs to choose three languages. Advice please on what the likely ones are around Ardfell. By the way, Tresmeer may go witch (instead of wizard) if the game plays out that way.
Do we have a future rogue in this group? If not then consider that Tresmeer's skills may include Disable Device before we start. Its a stretch but not beyond the bounds of possibility.
Cheers

I want to try and make the transition as organic as possible, so you'll probably get to level 3 before you arrive in a town that can provide training if you go into a class that conceptually requires training (cleric, fighter, wizard, paladin, etc.). 'Natural' classes like oracle, witch, barbarian and such I'll let you take when you hit level 3. I actually had to go on Google and look up Treasure Hunt and Under Illefarn, so I think I can safely say I have my own ideas. But I do like Treasure Hunt's premise that your class is dictated by how you deal with encounters.
For languages, I suggest halfling, dwarf and possibly elven. They're the most common inhabitants of this area. Here's a map of the continent you will be on. The village of Ardfell is in the country of West Alarion.

Don't worry pops I'm handling it.
Working on future roguish skill monkey/face, commoner for the time being. I really do hope that Tresmeer does not have too many problems with his son using Slight of hand.

"Pops! pops! come here and say that - you young whippersnapper."
I am sure he can learn to look the other way, especially for an adopted son.
GM thanks for the languages, that is updated now. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out. I have played in both those scenarios and the mechanics can work - they do however need loads of effort. Probably too much for a pbp.
Cheers

Xaivan soon learned to take advantage of his small stature and began to steal odd trinkets and, when hungry, food. However, his father frowned upon stealing, even though his was aware that they were barely able to provide for themselves. He was never harsh on Xavian for he understood that his heart was in the right place and also saw some of himself in his eyes. He feared for Xavian due to his small size, though his vastly underestimates his dexterity and resolve. His mother, never one that had any ambitions beyond that of a wife and mother, really could never understand the fascination with adventuring and life outside of their home.
Xaivan, though helpful at home, always spends as much time as he can in the streets of the city. The hustle and activity of all that occurs fascinates him and he soon learned the habits of the people within his neighborhood. While he was well known due to the family store and his brother's exploits, he was able to use his charm and his size to his advantage wheever he got caught with mischief. Some thought he was just harmlessly acting out after his big brother left the city, others felt sorry for his small size or the plight of the family store, which was not doing very well against the competing stores in the city.
Scorpious Prime
|
Nijehr (Nie’-Yere) House of Scorpious
A super defender clad in red scorpion armor arrives, as expected, to protect the village once again. If old is what they want, ancient is what they assume to have gotten. In reality, the ruse would fail if but one word was spoken, but it is well known that an injury to the throat has left the naginata blade master unable to release his battle cry, to rally the young ones, to victory, to glory. Her deep bow practiced a million times to both mimic and honor her father, should be enough. The legacy of the Scorpion will not die this day, even if her father, unknowingly, already has.
Removing her father’s helm, the tears in her eyes do not fall, born to kill, a slayer with the face of a child, stands ready to bring pride to the onlookers, no matter who the foe, no matter what the mission, the decedents of Scorpious have vowed to protect, and protect she shall. “If the caves call for heroes great Ardfell I will lead. I am not commissioned, nor knighted, nor properly named champion, but I am brave, and forever will I be willing to sacrifice my life for these people who I love. And I will follow if I am not worthy”

Scorpius (Warrior)
Noya (Aristocrat)
Bonk (Warrior)
Pethorn (Commoner)
Henry (Warrior)
Kalin (Adept)
