Janis chuckles. It's not like you didn't have those priorities either. I'm just the one with the winning smile, and hand. Janis drinks.
Furnok of Ferd
Cleo gives Furnok a look, one of the glares her mom has perfected long ago and Cleo is just now trying to develop. Meaning it is easily ignorable.
"I will stay here, please and thank you. I do appreciate the offer though." she doesn't appreciate, nope not one bit.
Ignorable or adorable? ;)
DM TreasureFox
Bill laughs at Janis' comment and drinks to it. "Same, friend. If it weren't for work, I'd do the same. So you're showing this one around town, eh? Are you giving him the lay of the land, talking about varied trades and such?"
Janis instantly recognizes the underlying message that Bill is asking.
"Are you involved in dishonest work, and if so, is this man a client or a fellow?"
The other two men are happily drinking, making small talk with the rest of the group, and flirting with the women.
Wabbit Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
I'd like to wrap this up in a few more posts. Don't want the others to wait too long.
-------------------
Furnok starts his trip down to the Courtesan and the Unicorn.
Basically, if things go south, I'll have Furnok pop in at an opportune moment.
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
We haven't done much of anything yet. So far are first stop was here, I was sure he'd enjoy becoming a client.
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
I'll be giving him the lay of the land soon enough, right now I thought this fine fellow might like to relax before we get down to business.
In case you check in here first please ignore my first post. I wish to identify him as a partner in crime.
DM TreasureFox
"Ah I see." Bill nods sagely. "How nice to have such a good friend. I suppose you grew up in a pretty good family, eh? Mine is very strict, but very well off. Jewelers, you know. They make necklaces, small rings, and anklets. Always looking to hire."
"Do you belong to a crime family? Mine is very strict, but pays really well. We do assassinations, kidnapping, and stalking. We have jobs available."
If it's too difficult to write these out, you can just write in italics what you mean to say. I don't mind at all.
If you want to write something out, here are a few tips. Mentioning a master, or someone who's grey will get the point of your family across. For jewelry, I suspect you're kind of a jack-of-all-trades.
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
My father's a right old task master. And my interest in jewelry is eclectic, I don't care for necklaces though I enjoy small rings, anklets, and even jewelry boxes.
The jewelry boxes indicate thievery.
DM TreasureFox
"Interesting..." Bill replies, he looks Janis and Wabbit up and down, sort of sizing them up. "We've got the day off tomorrow. Would you like to come by the mill and play cards with us, say near sundown? Your friend here is welcome too. I'm thinking there'll be three to six of the boys there, depending on how ambitious people are feeling. Your father wouldn't be too upset about that, would he? Hahaha"
"I don't know what family you're part of, but I'll drop it for now.""
"If you come by the mill near sundown tomorrow, we can talk jobs if you're interested. You can bring your newbie too. Payment is anywhere from 300 to 600 gold pieces, depending on what you're up for. Would your family get pissed if you took a job from us?"
Good idea with the box. Thievery is quite the catch-all.
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
I'm sure my father wouldn't mind. Mind if I bring a few fellow friends along?
They won't interfere, I have a crew I want to bring.
This is quite fun.
DM TreasureFox
"Yeah, we'd be fine with that. Like I said, there'll be between three and six of us. Just head to the Seven's Sawmill on the islet. Now it's been good chatting, but time to get to business. See you tomorrow."
"Sure, bring your crew. Payment is still 300-600gp though."
With that, Bill and the other two men stand up from the table and quickly collect a few of the ladies who they take upstairs. Irlana whistles with an impressed tone.
A few minutes later, Furnok enters the brothel.
This is what I like about Theives' Cant. It's really nice to do this over a forum, rather than in person. I also do Hobo symbols, which I think Wabbit and Furnok would both be knowledgeable of.
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
Many groups clearly need murderhobo symbols. Thankfully we're better than that. Janis waves Furnok over.
Andreste Velletti

Murderhobo cant: I really enjoy the experience of meeting new folk. It brings memories I'll treasure far past the initial meeting.
I like getting XP and treasure. Let's kill some things for levels and loot.

Whispers I think that went well.... But then again maybe it's just a trap to lure us into their lair for a bloody sacrifice.
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
Janis smiles. You could say that. I had a very successful evening with two beautiful ladies, and we got invited to play cards tomorrow evening. Janis drinks his wine.
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
Girlfriends sure, though I wouldn't mind keeping Lilia with me. Perhaps she'd enjoy being a kept woman.
DM TreasureFox
I could have Lilia accompany you, but mind you it wouldn't be free. She would charge by the day, and it would cost extra if you want to bring her into a dangerous place. Apart from that, you could get that +2 Will on a regular basis, and she would count as a level 1 rogue. She'd level up over time, depending on what she's doing. I would also make her a secondary character, rather than a tertiary. While I don't use Leadership in my games, this is one of the alternatives. Same idea works with mercenaries.
Hobo symbols refer to little drawings around a settlement, made by working class and destitute people. These drawings indicate all sorts of things, such as warnings about abusive guards, free meals if you talk about a certain religion, and safe places to sleep. All it takes is a perception check to find Hobo symbols. Right now, I think Wabbit and Furnok are 'fluent' in such things.
Murderhobo symbols, I could make use of that. Indicates things that need to be killed, like dire rats and such. I'll think on it.
Janis and Wabbit pay their tabs, and then the three of them make their way back up to the Kaijitsu house. The night doesn't pass uneventfully. For one thing, those who are used to the countryside find sleeping in the city to be particularly annoying. Not only are there no sounds of crickets or frogs, or even the howl of a lonely wolf, but instead they hear wagon wheels, hooves on cobblestone, and rowdy drunkards.
Cleo is the first to hear Brelin yell in the night. When she goes to investigate, the door is held closed. Brelin says "Don't come in! They're watching, and the more they learn about you, the more likely they can start watching you too!"
Janis' tab comes out to 4gp and 9sp. Wabbit's tab comes out to 1gp.
Cleo Gingerberry
"Brelin!" Cleo's concern is evident in her voice. "They can learn whatever they want about me. I don't care. Let me in so I can help... please" Cleo presses her hand against the door as she talks through it
DM TreasureFox
Brelin slowly relents from pressing against the door, allowing Cleo to enter. Brelin's room is quite small, and currently quite messy with cards and crystals strewn about. A candle sits on a bedside table with the Light cantrip cast upon it. Above the candle is a single window that has been shuttered closed. Brelin's right eye has an arcane symbol on it, which Cleo understands is how Brelin detects magic. Tears have been streaming down her face.
Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira
Wabbit stands with Cleo at the door, engaging his evil-dar concerned Brelin may have contacted outside sources for information and subsequently lost control over the encounter... That or she was just doing weird witchy stuff.
Regardless Wabbit is there to help
He Whispers to Cleo... I think it's best if you talk with her alone. I'll be here by the door
Wabbit likes Brelin, but doesn't really understand what makes her tick and Cleo is just much better in situations like this
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
Just so everybody's aware, Janis is not in the house. He actually lives in this city after all and has a home.
Cleo Gingerberry
Cleo nods to Wabbit. The little halfling will coax her friend to the bed to sit down, and put her hands on her (she'd hug her but she knows how much Brelin doesn't like that so she keeps the contact limited). "It was that floating eye... the one the guard found above your head... you can't unsee it, can't stop thinking there are more..." Cleo's eyes hold the other woman's, full of as much sympathy and understanding that she can pour into them.
DM TreasureFox
Brelin sort of half-leans into the hug. She says
"I can't go with you. If I do, they'll see us. They're watching us right now."
--------------------------
Sunday, the 31st of Lamashan, 4711AR
Cloudy skies and chilly winds sweep through Magnimar. Today is Sunday, which most people take off work for worship. Temples are open for mass, and missionaries walk the streets to spread their faith.
I believe you guys are having breakfast together with Andreste?
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
Janis saunters down the streets in his usual finery, only now he carries a backpack with him since he knows not what the night will bring with it. He signals from the Kaijitsu's front gate that he's here.
Cleo Gingerberry
"Brelin, you have faced undead hordes, giants, and even Wabbit's jokes... you have earned the right to sit this one out." Cleo settles back against the headboard and lets the other one use her lap for a pillow.
In the morning, she'll tell the others "Brelin will be staying in today. Now who wants waffles." she'll cook up a storm for everyone.
Cleo Gingerberry
"Brelin is a more capable spellcaster than any of the rest of us. If there is something we'd be able to see, she would have." she considered asking the wizardess they are waiting on for breakfast to check on her, but she is certain that a stranger checking her out would fret poor Brelin beyond safety levels.
She sighed, heavily, frowning and asking "When are the others getting here?"
Is Janis shouting from the front gate, Janis, or knocking on the door?
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
I figure it would be a bell on a rope. Not sure though whatever way works.
Cleo Gingerberry
"Visitors..." Cleo will pop her flour speckled head out the door "Mr. Scarnetti! Please come in, we are making breakfast and waiting on one more before dealing with whatever is thrown at us this day."
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
Excellent excellent. Has Wabbit informed you of our plans this evening? Janice says as he's let in.
Cleo Gingerberry
"Yes" Cleo says as she leads him into the busy dining room "I'm rubbish at lying so I'll stay quiet and hide my holy symbol."
Andreste Velletti
Andreste arrives shortly thereafter, Skrate perched on her shoulder, a long-blade pole-arm strapped along with a backpack on her back. She bears a couple of small ceramic pots. Smiling, she greets you "Good morning. I hope you don't mind, but I picked up a bit of cream and honey on the way."
Cleo Gingerberry
"Ooooo cream Yes" cleo loves you, platonically of course.
The little halfling brings the mage into the bustle and introduces her and Skrate to everyone, even bacon. There is an abundance of waffles.
"Okay, what exactly is the plan?" she'll ask once introducations are over.
DM TreasureFox
"Morning." Says a Tien woman from the kitchen. She leans back to get a look at the newcomer. This woman is likely between her mid twenties and mid thirties, with long black hair except for the front bangs, which are parted to the side and are stark white. "Hello, you must be Andreste, yeah? I'm Ameiko, nice to meet you."
Amaya hasn't come down yet. Now that no one's been on her case, she's thoroughly enjoying sleeping in.
Andreste Velletti
"Pleased to meet you, Ameiko. Indeed I am, and this," she indicated the squirrel sitting next to her plate with cheeks puffed beyond capacity with waffle "is Skrate, my steadfast companion, scratcher of imps and vanquisher of waffles."
Skrate chitters something unintelligible even to those who can usually understand the squirrel. Best they can make out is "Plebe da mitchew.". But the familiar manages a proper bow between chews.
Andreste Velletti
"Did you find what you were looking for among the Silks, then, gentlemen?" Andreste asks while sampling the waffles with an expression of vast approval. "Do we have any other leads that require further inquisition?"
Janis "The Gentleman" Scarnetti
Janis quirks his eyebrow at her. I'm sorry, but, I'm not willing to discuss business with someone I don't know unless they come with an introduction as these fine folk did.
Cleo Gingerberry
Cleo looks at Janis and shrugs "She's helping." as if it is as simple as that. And if it isn't "My gut tells me she can be trusted." she gives an honest smile to both of the newcomers.
Andreste Velletti
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"A reasonable caution remarkably late in the proceedings. If you mean a formal written introduction, I'm afraid I am currently unable to provide such." Andreste takes a bite of waffle, fully savoring, chewing, and swallowing before continuing. "Given that I was pointed in your direction by Investigator Falx Jullus and Priestess Zimantiu, I suppose I could request one of them furnish an introduction." or perhaps if I am to be suspected of something in any case, I could simply forge such an instrument, if I had the skill of, say, a Scarnetti.
She offers him a warm smile, "As Miss Cleo indicated, I am here to help. I'm afraid I do not come with your pedigree."
Skrate
The little guy's head and tail both perk into an upright position at Ameiko's words. He chews enough so that his squeeks are legible to the linguistically capable.
Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira
In between bites of DELICIOUS waffles Wabbit does a cursory evil-dar scan of Andreste, he trusts Cleos judgement of character...but just in case.
His mind goes back to food why don't we have bacon anymore?!!!
and then stares daggers at Bacon who seems to be the cause of one of the main breakfast food groups having gone missing from it's usual heavy rotation in the morning meals
His first round of Waffles down...as Wabbit gets up to place a second round of Waffles on his plate he remembers Ironbrair
if we don't have anything planned for the morning we could stake out Justice Ironbrair for a bit and goes back to stuffing his face
