Male Elf Wizard 20

GM:

Man, Mortimer is out of invisibility for the day. He'll sit a ways back and simply observe them until the morning when he can reprepare spells.

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

As long as you're not moving too much or doing anything risky, you can stay hidden in the roots until you can prepare spells.

Let's assume you've done that. What do you do now?

Male Elf Wizard 20

DM:
Mortimer casts invisibility before heading in, then tries to explore the area. He follows the largest flow of traffic, searching less secure areas first then moving onto less visited areas. He also pays attention to the physical description of various people, studying them in anticipation of disguising himself.

Shadow Lodge

How long does your invisibility last before you have to cast it again? If you do need to recast, where would you want to do it (since you have to speak loudly)? My next post will be fairly long, so it may take me a bit to post it.

Male Elf Wizard 20

DM:
8 minutes, and Mortimer will use his rod of silent metamagic when he needs to cast it again.

Shadow Lodge

OK. How many did you prepare, and how long are you staying? How many silents can you do from the rod? Where do you go when done?

Male Elf Wizard 20

2, 14 minutes, 3, to where I slept.

That kind of thing doesn't happen overnight. If we can't find him again what's out next move? Cyrus asks.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

We were for now able to so probably with a little of luck. Maybe we should hire someone skilled enough so that a least we don't get lost

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

Ok. Here’s what you find (and I’ll map it for you asap. Probably tonight).

There seem to be 12 in all: 5 red shirt mercenaries, 5 Thelkonese brigands, a one eyed, fowl tempered Amerysi captain (you recognize him as Aventus Gaszeretti – a famous Amerysi general from before the reformation. He is presumed dead), and the bandits leader – you haven’t been able to see her, but she is referred to as “she” by her followers.

The cam itself is organized as any elite, mobile strike team in the Amerysi army today. It forms a tight square around a central tent, easy to collapse to a turtle defense and quick to break down. The poles and wood planks surround the tents, and those you just can’t seem to figure out…

Male Elf Wizard 20

GM:

Mortimer narrows his eyes at Aventus. He makes sure to memorize the physical appearance and attitude of each person, then retreats to his sleeping point on the perimeter.

Cyrus doesn't say much as he lays out his things. "I'll take first watch we'll figure out what to do tomorrow."

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

Give me 4 stealth checks representing how quite you are when patrols are coming and going since the entrance is near enough your hiding spot to risk discovery.

Cyrus and the two sisters ejoy a light supper and pass a peaceful night.

Male Elf Wizard 20

Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 101d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 131d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 201d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

As the fourth patrol returns to the camp, Mortimer sneezes unexpectedly.

Instantly, weapons fly from shealths and the four men rush in to surround the wizard.

Init if you want to fight. Otherwise, they seem to intend to capture you.

Male Elf Wizard 20

DM:
A sneeze hahaha.

Mortimer stands slowly, wiping his nose. "No reason for violence, I know when I'm caught."

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

I figured you, the player would like that, and Mortimer would hate it. :)

With a wave of their swords, the men direct you out of your little hiding place and bring you to stand before Aventus who glares at you with hard eyes.

"Anything to say, before you die?"

Male Elf Wizard 20

DM:

Nope! See you guys in hell!

Mortimer stands unafraid, staring hard at Aventus. "Only that you would be losing a powerful ally."

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

An eyebrow raises of its own accord, and Aventus is quick to slide a passive facade back over his countenance.

"Meaning?"

Male Elf Wizard 20

GM:

"If the reputation of your leader is anything to judge the group as a whole by, you hold much enmity for the government of Amerys. I believe we can help each other."

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

"You think you understand her? You think you know something about what we are doing? Very well, how, exactly, can we help each other?"

Male Elf Wizard 20

GM:

"I won't pretend to know your exact goals, but your leader is and deserter like myself. The Amerys government tried to use me as a scapegoat." Mortimer looks like he's holding back seething anger. "I want to see them burn. I don't care how, I don't care what I have to do or who I have to work with to get it done, but I will burn their entire establishment to the ground. The only question is if we help each other or if I do it alone."

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer's bluff. 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21

Aventus' eyes narrow. "We'll see." the old general nods to one of his men and walks away.

A young man, maybe early twenties, steps up to Mortimer. "I will show you to your quarters, and I will be at your disposal for your first days here."

Male Elf Wizard 20

GM:

Mortimer follows them to the chambers, continuing to look around the area and memorize the layout. When he is given a servant he looks openly surprised. "Well this is interesting. What's your name, how have you come to be here?"

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

"I am Pip, and I have been here my whole life. My job is to help you learn the rules."

Pip leads you into a neatly appointed tent: nothing fancy, but all well made. "Will you be needing anything at the moment?"

Male Elf Wizard 20

GM:

"Well met Pip. I am quite a rule man, so I'm sure I'll take to it quickly. Something to drink if you would, beyond that I am content at the moment."

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

Pip exits with a nod, leaving the wizard to himself for the moment.

Intrepid Trio:

Night passes peacfully. What's the plan for today?

Male Elf Wizard 20

GM:

Mortimer examines the room, but beyond that does little besides wait.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Intrepid Trio:
try to get to the nearest town to hire someone who can track decently :)

Shadow Lodge

OK. I am going to pause here and get recruitment going. I am looking for frontliner/tanky with decent tracking skills. If you want something different or additional, please tell me in discussion.

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

Pip returns with your drink, a pale red wine: mild and sweet. He looks at you expectantly.

Cyrus, Erianna, and Esther being to break camp when suddenly, big bear of a man enters the clearing, a wild, suspicious gleam in his eye.

That's you Dirk :)

Victor:

"Your men are already assembled in the yard. They have a horse for you. I expect you to return with the traitor, Mortimer Talinth, or to report every fortnight." Garrison Commander Jennings raises her eybrows. "Understood?"

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer inhales the aroma, taking it in while at the same time checking for poison.

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

"Yes sir. Are there any details on this individual that I should know sire? Does he need to come back alive? Do we need to exercise special caution in apprehending him? "

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer detects no poison.

The Garrison Commander stiffens. "I would think a soldier who values his life woulr always take special care. In this case though, yes, you should: He is a wizard. And alive would be best. Anything else?"

"Does he need to come back alive? taking him from ambush with a volley of arrows could be nice and safe. I don't suppose I can ask what all he did to prompt arrest. "

Male Human Mad Dog Barbarian 8

Dirk sniffs the area audibly." I think I smell bandits." he says with a snarl. "What do you think, my Lady?"

sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

An enormous, pure white wolf, slightly larger than a horse enters the clearing. It begins to growl, hackles raised, a light foam dripping from its mouth onto the mossy forest floor.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Super 3 + Dirk:
You smell bandits ? then might i suggest that you have your nose checked and whipped clean. We most definitely are not bandits. Just swords for hire she says Plus its three against your two so don't think you can pull anything funny you will lose.

Male Human Mad Dog Barbarian 8

3+2=oh my:
"swords for hire? Whos coin lines your purses then? And im not here to fight, I know my odds. But dont you do anything cute either, you can be sure I, or my sweet Lady here will have at least one of your throats before I fall. Dirk gives a wild grin.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Super 3 + Dirk:
so you think she just smiles at you Currently a reward money for bandits that have plagued this region or to apprehend a fleeing person she says with no weapon in hands but a club and shield at her side

Shadow Lodge

Garrison Commander Jennings slams an armored fist on the table. "Alive! And no you may not! Dismissed!" She shouts clearing seething. "And try to learn some discipline or, so help me, I'll teach you."

Male Human Mad Dog Barbarian 8

super 3:
you hunt bandits too, eh? Maybe we can help each other. But why does this person flee you? How far can your swords be sold? Be you assassins or just simple mercenaries?

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Super 3 + Dirk:
Well what proof do we have that you are not a part of their group and will lead us into an ambush ? And our swords once contracted are contracted. There is little profit from turning on's coat as you're reputation will bring little clients.

Ok, guess I get to work in mushroom mode like normal. Love the country, but the gods know the crap gets old in the service.

and he will head out to his waiting team.

"OK soldiers, we've got our mission. We're after Mortimer Talinth. He's a wizard, so don't take any chances you don't have to. We're supposed to bring him back alive, but that doesn't mean I'm going to get any of you killed to save his life. None of you are new to this, so I'm not going to inspect all your kit like some martinet. Let's just get a move on. " and he will mount up and start riding in the appropriate direction (this assumes he was briefed as to where to look).

Male Human Mad Dog Barbarian 8

super 3:
Proof? Dirk laughs Who needs proof? Out here In the wilderness, all you can really trust is that boiling feeling in your gut. But I have some proof.

Dirk states his name (first name only) and rank, as well as what he is doing here. He also provides any paperwork or ranks that he would have to prove it. not sure if he has any

so girly, whats your gut tellin you?

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Super 3 + dirk:
that you are an advance scout for an army's detachment are you not?

Male Human Mad Dog Barbarian 8

super 3:
Dirk chuckles and shakes his head. he then moves to lady and pats the side of her head. calm down girl, they seem to be alright. Lady stops growling and lays down, going from menacing to sweet in half a second. so what do you know about the bandits? so far theyve been incredibly hard to pin down. ive been trying to track them for months. any leads?

dont suppose you know what one of em smells like do ya? Dirk laughs loudly, patting Lady on the side roughly.

Shadow Lodge

Trying to get you all together with too much deus ex machina...

Male Human Mad Dog Barbarian 8

who, me? Should I change my post? Dirks kinda trusting like that though, and they dont look like bandits to him, plus they were too easy for him to find. All the evidence he sees points to them not lying.

Shadow Lodge

No :) I have to get rid of Erianna, introduce Victor, and get Mortimer back with you. All the while trying to kill you all with bandits. muahahaha.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

See Drik what did i tell you 2 round... (He is DM DPS after all)

Super 3:
What we know is that they are will informed, do not have a regular pattern of attack and random "hunting spot". But i have something that intrigued me and might prove to be in connection. How good of a tracker are you?

DM: Plan is to take back to tracking the Red shirts...
