I hate breaking the discussion with unrelated questions, but as I'm new at this: how do I make a character page like Kenna Breac's, and how do I do the "crunch" thing? I'm sure the answers will make me feel dumb, but hell I gotta ask cuz I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks beforehand.
lol nvm about the character page, figured it out literrally three seconds after asking, still don't know about the crunch thing

Here's the sheet you can copy and paste onto your profile page. I have typed in the info you have posted in the relevant spaces. If anything I've typed is incorrect, just type over.
The other sections (with the ?, xxxx or blank) you will need to fill in.
I generally keep the template saved on my comp and fill in the relevant stats for each character I create.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by the "crunch" thing. You can PM me if you'd like, and I can try and talk/walk you through it.
The SRD can help/guide you. Found Here

Shopkeep- expert, commoner, bard, wizard, alchemist, rogue, magus.
150g for armor , 100g for weapons, 600g for gear.
Bonuses- appraise becomes class skill, or if already class skill gain skill focus, one free skill point for appraise, diplomacy becomes class skill. If already class skill skill focus diplomacy.
Xin- hmmm. Let's see what comes of it.

So we have 14 applicants.... I am debating whether or not I have the time to run an additional table.
Also, If I form two tabled I will want the following info
-posting frequency
- how you like to play (open world vs following the main arc)
- good guys? Bad guys? Somewhere in between?
- higher powered game? Lower powered? (Or, more magic or less magic) original was low, until high levels 12+
- and. Something coming aross my brain just now... Slight PvP. Not really PC vs PC but effect vs effect. Only holds true if I form two tables and if in approve of everyone's view and they approve of the idea. (Bad group does X, good group has chance to undo it) never tried anything like it so have no idea how it would play out.

1)
Something along the lines of 1/18 hours is probably ideal. Posts build off energy, and the best way to build energy is to have activity! And a post is only as busy as its slowest member.
tl;dr: Lots good, more better.
2) For the PbP setting, I think a main arc is needed. Party discussion is difficult and can get easily sidetracked, so without some kind of railroad tracks, it can get difficult to shrug off a "what do we do now?" feeling if it ever sets in. I'd vote for a typical Big Goal with intermediate Small Goals to map the way.
3) It's hard to be a bad guy when your origin story starts in a small town filled with otherwise normal folks. YMMV, but I'm feelin' the good side right now.
4) Recently I've been involved in low-magic games, and I must say I prefer them. The 'physical' classes get more opportunity to shine, which comes as no surprise to any who've seen this thing. Without the ubiquitous crutch of Fireball and the like, the air opens up for more RP, or at least more concrete approaches to problems.
5) That is...very interesting. I'm intrigued. Might even give a social pressure to post more and better. It wouldn't even depend on a good v. evil, just one side vs. another. (i.e. In the Seven Years War, both the French and the English thought of themselves as "good".)
Xin of the Final Hour
1) I'm usually able to post a few times a day, barring the unforseen. Of course the more active everone else is the quicker I can respond.
2) I usually follow the story, but if we have some free roaming I'm happy to explore if you give us a world to do it in.
3) I'm with Atlas on this, this premise lends itself better to good than to evil.
4) Low magic let's the physical characters shine and make the mages feel unique, but high magic makes for exciting encounters and the satisfaction of taking down powerful enemies with mundane methods.
5) Sort of a table vs table thing, interesting. I'd be willing to try, but it sounds like it would work better with either a truly dedicated evil party or two parties with conflicting goals.
On the note of goals, while I like that we are making heroes for an adventure we know nothing about, it does make me wonder what will be the spark that pushes them to become heroes.
Kenna Breac
1. My time zone is the opposite to most on the board. However in saying that, I can post at least once a day and more, if there is nice rp happening. Weekends are harder for me as that is family time (and generally travelling), but if I am going to be away from the board for a lengthy amount of time, I always let people on the board know.
2. Main arc for me. A side quest or two won't break the game.
3. Agreed with the two gents before me -- the premise lends itself more to good than evil. I don't mind a crisis of conscience or something ... plays more realistic for the good guy.
4. Low magic to start sounds good and building up at later levels. It also suits the environment -- a small town -- I wouldn't figure there would be too many high-powered magic users in town. But tough as nails fighters, farmers and alike, banding together against adversity -- yep.
5. I don't mind the idea of two parties with conflicting goals (if you do go with two tables). So I too would be willing to give it a try. Not big on typical good party vs evil party thing.
And as Xin mentioned, I'd like to see what spark sets this lot on the hero path.

I know there is already a submission for the town drunk position, but that just sounds like to much fun to pass on. I was thinking of advancing to the Drunken Master Monk PLEASE class, but there are no NICE classes listed so would I just make him a commoner or just choose any NICE class to work with?

I'm in Pacific time, and can post 1ce a day most days (sometimes more)
My preferences are as follows:
-Prefer open world but admittedly, too many options can be just as stifling. I'm leaning towards a beginning arc that transitions into open world.
-Prefer "mostly" good guys, unrepentant scalawags aren't my thing...mostly. I find that antiheroes can be really fun though.
-Mid power usually works best, the same with magic.
-Not a big fan of PvP, because inevitably, someone gets killed by someone else, and not just for doing something stupid...though Kenna's logic above could be interesting.

I do enjoy a good antihero/antiheroine myself. :)

- Agreed - not into player killing player. And the conflicting goals idea was brought up by Xin and I thought it was interesting. So no credit to me. ;)

also, kenna, thank you very very much. Has made things quite a bit easier on my end.
I will form two tables, I will be spliiting the parties on each accroding to the following-
party make up (classes)
speed of posting (try to keep fast posters together, slow posters together)
then marginally (tie breakers) would be other things, such as power level, magic level, main arc vs open world type deal. If everyone can get me the information I asked eariler before monday I could potentially have the tables listed out and ready a day or two after that.

@ Gilthanis: These are the roles. The bolded ones have submissions for them already, but you may apply for a "taken" role (per rorek55's instruction) as the GM is contemplating running two tables.
* Guard captain (just taken by Gilthanis)
* Militiaman
* Woodsmen
* Lumberman
* Physician/herbalist
* Town drunk x 2
* Travelling merc
* Local priest/priestess
* Blacksmith
* Farmer
* Beggar
* Mayor
* Town eccentric
* Wanderer
* Tavern bouncer
* Waitress
* Courier
* Shopkeep (opened up again)

4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 1) = 10=9

4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6, 5) = 19=15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 6, 4) = 15=14

"Bob", was a simple man, but one who was strict. His father always told him, "never quit, never give in. Go until you drop". This was the case with anything: chores, running errands for father, and later when he became the
Guard captain.
Bob, took his work ethic and demanded the same of his squad. Not perfection, but the drive to go "all the way", and no job was too small.
What class/gear is available for the guard captain?

I'm very sorry I am posting from my phone and the auto correct changed what I was trying to say.
PLEASE=PCNICE=NPC
So the second sentence was supposed to say: I was thinking of advancing to the Drunken Master Monk PC class, but there are no NPC classes listed so would I just make him a commoner or just choose any NPC class to work with?

Hrmm maybe a Commoner Lumberman.
What does the Lumberman get, or is it some weird combination of Woodsman and a Laborer/Farmer?
EDIT: Stat rolls
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 5) = 18 -> 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 3) = 19 -> 16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 1) = 10 -> 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 2) = 14 -> 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 5) = 12 -> 11
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 4) = 13 -> 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 1) = 9 -> 8
Hrmm 21 PB... That I can recreate...

-post speed. I aim to post twice per day but at least once certainly
-Open world vs following the main arc, hmmm. I think I fall somewhere in between. Certainly I like the spontanaity of an open world but only as far as those acctions connect to the greater story.
-Good guys? Bad guys? Good guys, but I have nothing against moral gray areas and hard decisions.
- higher powered game? Lower powered? I would prefer a low magic game
- Slight PvP. Interesting idea to have two parties with potentially conflicting goals I would be up for experimenting with it.
Morgwyr
I can post daily, typically once or twice. I'm about to be starting a new job, then also starting school in January, but i try to maintain frequency. If too busy to post on a day, I will drop u (rorek) a pm.
I think starting with the main arc, then transitioning into an moderate open world will be fun.
I like the notion of forgoeing "good and evil". Perhaps the two groups are just being manipulated or guided by other npcs with different motives or goals? Something more than just black and white.
Low magic appeals to meh more personally.

4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 6) = 1311 1 point

Wis-16 5 points +2 race

Now for the interview:
Posting speed:I can post at least once per day if not more on weekdays and at least once over the weekend. And just to let you know now, my wife is due to give birth to our 5th child in late January so my posting will get a little less frequent for a time after that, but I will still post as much as possible.
Open world vs main ark:I've been in a strictly open world pbp and it really didn't work very well. With no linear pull to guide us posting quickly dropped to a stand still. So my vote is for a main ark, even if it is a very loose one, having a goal will encourage the players to advance the story.
Good guys, bad guys, or something in between:I kind of agree with Niston. We're all good at heart but we may have our darker tendencies. Take the town drunk, when he's sober he may be the nicest most polite person in town, but get a few drinks in him and he may not make the best decisions. Or the mayor role; he's a nice guy, kissing babies and shaking hands, which is what gets him elected, but you can't tell me he isn't a little under handed and that's how he keeps the position.
High or low powered:I'm actually not sure what you really mean by this since every other game I've played just does spell casting by the book so if your stat tree says you get 5 1st level spells then you get 5 1st level spells. Or I'm just misinterpreting what is meant by high or low powered.
"PvP":If we are to try this I like the concept of two conflicting "contacts", both sides think they are the good guys doing the right thing when in actuality one group is the "villains" and the other is the "heroes", but the only one to truly know which is which is the GM (rorek). The problem with this idea though is it is going to take a major commitment from rorek to make both sides think they are the good guys while one is being deceived without even the players themselves knowing who truly is the good guys or the bad guys.
