I'm still here, just currently stuck with a plan for this. I'm still interested no matter what route we take, just explaining that my absence is currently thinking of a way forward than any lack of interest
Sa'Kage
I'm still here. I don't mind what we do although I'd need help trying to move this forward. We need more of a plot hook I suppose.
Eris Triguna
Posting this in all my games.
I'm currently extremely sick which is hurting my posting. I'll probably be out of commission for the next 5 days or so, so please feel free to bot me in the meantime until I get back to full strength.
Sa'Kage
Sorry to hear that, get well soon!
Sa'Kage
Yeah! Lets get this back on track.
DM Stalwart
Okay! Good news, I think I know how to get things back on track.
Bad news, Gafar has PM'd me and has informed me he has to drop out. Many thanks to him for joining and bringing a very interesting addition to the Red Mantis family.
I'm going to resolve Gafar's departure as him taking care of the last two targets on the list (the ones that seem to be the least interesting -- or at least the ones no one seems to have a good idea on how to approach).
That way, I can get the "reverse AP" thing into full swing.
Kind of bad news, but not really: I'm going to have to do this on the weekend, since I have to dig up my notes and re-read certain portions of the AP to refresh myself. Expect a big post to kick this game back into gear in the next couple of days or so.
We should be able to manage with four people, but if you have thoughts about adding another fifth, let me know.
Sa'Kage
Out of combat healing would be useful, but the easiest solution is to give Yanmei a bunch of CLW wands.
Re the fight at the academy - we presumably need the swordmaster alive. I wonder if Kage should try and KO him with non-lethal damage. You can do that by taking a -4 to hit, I hope he doesn't have a high AC. Or there's always the grapple route, I'll have to double check the rules but I don't think he can use a rapier while grappled since its not a light weapon.
Sa'Kage
Can I just check, we need him alive right?
Sa'Kage
You have a devious mind Eris, I like it. I'll give the others a chance to reply first though.
Sa'Kage
We'll have to see if Orsini is lying (or being economical with the truth), but let's assume for a moment he's telling the truth and doesn't know the Chancellor's whereabouts. What do we do with him? He's supposed to be the best lead we have but he can't tell us what we need to know...
Eris Triguna
Hmm interesting.
So apparently Queen Ileosa killed her husband (aka king, head of state) with the help of Red Mantis as well as killing Venster Arabasti. At this point, is she still protected under the "no monarch assassinations" rule? Unlikely to matter now, at this point in time, but its interesting to know how she managed to get RMA assistance towards killing a monarch in the first place, and why she might probably be protected.
DM Stalwart
Guess what time it is...
Level up time!!!
As soon as Eris reveals what she gleaned from Orisini's mind, you are free to level up. Post what additions you are making (spell selections, skill selections, class abilities, etc.) here in the discussion thread.
Hit points are 1/2 the hit die plus one, plus Con bonuses of course.
Eris Triguna
I got a +1 to Spellcraft, Bluff and Disguise, as well as Hold Person as a new spell, as well as Ghost Sound. I also got 5 more HP. Whooo, this was a fun level up for me.
Sa'Kage
I'm away from my computer so I'll have to make the adjustments by hand. Anyway at lvl 6 Kage gets a slayer talent. He'll use combat trick to pick up cornugon smash.
His gains an iterative attack, sneak attack increases to 2d6 and all saves go up by 1.
Sa'Kage
I guess we'll get some new gear when it makes sense for the story too?
DM Stalwart
I'm doing some travel this upcoming weekend (this being a holiday weekend in the States), so I'm going to be almost completely offline through Monday. I'll be able to do a little bit of posting from my phone, but I won't be able to get into the next segment until next week. Hopefully this can give Yanmei some time to catch up with us. She hasn't posted in a few weeks.
Feel free to rp through your revelations.
DM Stalwart
I'm still around, but at a work conference so I can't post much until later this week.
The area around the docks and the Emperor's territory is routinely patrolled by gangs of thugs loyal to the Emperor. You can easily make contact with them if you're interested, or you can try to circumvent them if you choose.
Sa'Kage
Welcome back! I'm sure Eris could do with a hand.
Sa'Kage
I do hope Yanmei is coming back, I want to see how this scene pans out!
DM Stalwart
It's been a while since Yanmei's posted. Hopefully she'll be back, but this might be a decent spot for her to drop off if she's really gone.
And it might also be feasible to begin looking for a couple new players to fill the roster. But I'd rather wait until the holidays are past before jumping over to the recruitment boards.
Any thoughts?
Sa'Kage
Ideally Yan Mei comes back, but if not I think you are wise to hold off recruiting till January. I know it's a bit slow at times but this has been one of my favorite games and IMO it's worth waiting to get a reliable poster.
DM Stalwart
No need for a rescue mission for Yanmei here. If she rejoins the game, we can say she slipped away from Pilts after however long it takes, or if she doesn't show up, we can say she went back to Vespid or stuck with Pilts for a while -- to see how his little empire unfolds.
I've made contact with a couple other players who are interested and they're mulling over character options. Obviously, one thought would be a true front-liner type of character.
Eris, one of the players had a thought about being a spellcaster with a focus on mind control -- I'm a little worried that you might feel that concept is getting close to your concept, so I wanted to ask you first how you might feel with a character like that.
Eris Triguna
Oops, thought I had responded to this already, my bad.
If we are terming mind control as Hold Person / Dominate Person / Hold Monster / Dominate Monster, then Eris is already going down that route. As a Kitsune, its still very much her thing, and something I'd probably look to use more often when I add the above spells to my character (I already have Hold Person!).
I don't mind if someone wants to use a bit of mind control magic - but if someone was intending to make it a focus, specialist in it, or so on, its really going to be clashing pretty heavily towards what Eris already is / does - since it is a school of magic that Eris is very accomplished in - and I don't really want to take too much away from her strengths at the moment.
DM Stalwart
I think the plan for this character would be all about the charm and dominate spells, but less on the disguise and infiltration. Lot of overlap there. So, unless Eris would like a rival for a little inter-party friction (or a buddy/protégé to confide in), I'll let the player know that his concept steps a little too much on your toes.
Sa'Kage
Can I suggest Illusion instead? I think that would fit in with the kind of stuff we do nicely.
Alenaya
Howdy, all!
This is one of the folks Stalwart tapped to join in, going with a poisoner build. This is the alias for the character, still a work in progress. Never played an Alchemist before, so I'm open to suggestions.
Style I intend to play: brew up my own poisons, and then either myself or another infiltrate and use them to assassinate the target. With a base +23 to Craft (Alchemy) (likely higher once I buy gear), I should be able to make some fairly nasty poisons.
But, like I said, I'm open to suggestions.
Sa'Kage
Howdy! I think we decided last year we were using unchained poisons, there's some really nasty stuff there.
Lilith Stark
Howdy!
I'm the second player Stal recruited.
Lilith here is more or less finished. She is a combat druid who stalks softly and carries a big stick. Literally. Her big gimmick is using her swift action Enlarge Person (and Shillelagh if she can manage) to become a sudden juggernaut after stalking her prey/target for hours disguised as a small or tiny animal. When finished, she then flies away as a local bird.
Lilith Stark
@Stal: Should I be posting in spoilers? If so, when should I stop?
Sa'Kage
Yeah I think that should happen right about now, unless there's a surprise ;)
