Why not try plugging 'Worthless' into a translator and cycling through languages until you find one that you like?

Nearing completion on the Mul Metaforge. Haven't picked a name yet, but I'm considering something descriptive and not at all name-like would fit best. Something like making up a Dwarven word for "Unwanted", since I decided to go with the baked-in flavor of "He was raised as a gladiator". Tossed into the ring weaponless and armorless as an opening act, and manifested his own to protect himself.

According to this the dwarven male suffix is var/villi which means outcast or exile. Maybe that's something you can work with. :)

Interesting. Maybe "Arvill" (Blood Outcast) or Glanvar (Forgotten Outcast). They actually sound all right.

I'll try some other options though.

Hey GM,

Please consider Basha for inclusion in your game.

Appearance:
Basha is short and stocky for a halfling and has a protruding belly along with thick forearms. It’s difficult to tell his age as his face is wrinkled form over exposure to the elements but his eyes still sparkle like a child’s. He proudly shows off tribal tattoos along with old wounds.
His hair is a wild mane with braids, feathers, and animal fetishes that it’s a wonder he can still walk silently. He’s usually dressed in leathers and carries little more than his weapons and some basic survival tools.

Background:
The man has little concepts of civilization so all he can tell is that he went for his walkabout some seasons ago. Originally from the Forest Ridge, Basha has been traveling the Ivory Triangle for the past few years.
Called to a site of carnage, he picked up the last survivor of a crodlu herd; a young specimen he now calls Sheerat and the two have been ‘traveling’ together ever since.
He latched on to a caravan of House Daylethanu and started trailing them. The handlers knew better than to chase the wily halfling away and Basha started sharing their campfire at nights and sharing his hunt by day. He continued on with them until they arrived at Tyr where he was offered a job as a scout. Not understanding the concept of working for of money, the halfling hanged around the House until another caravan left. The Lady of the House allowed him to come and go as he wishes and Basha has taken a liking to her and the House members.
Still learning the common tongue and the civilized ways, he has made himself a valuable member of the House. Just don’t tell him that he works for them.

Personality:
Basha has difficulty understanding civilized customs or points of view, but curiosity helps him overcome his xenophobia. Little concerned with material wealth, the halfling is more concerned with how his actions will affect other halflings.
Halflings of different tribes still share a tradition of song, art and poetry, which serves as a basis of communication. Creatures that do not know these cultural expressions are often at a loss to understand the halfling’s expressions, analogies and allusions to well–known halfling stories. Basha can easily become frustrated with such “uncultured” creatures.
He doesn’t understand slavery or the concept of a sentient owning another sentient.
Basha is extremely conscious of his environment. He is sickened by the ruined landscape of the Tyr region.
Like all halflings, Basha is quite talented in arts and can at times be seen singing and dancing to the moon or other nature spirits. He’s also skilled with natural paints and dyes.
While Basha is omnivorous, he vastly prefers meat (on the raw, bloody side) and he is often seen sharing a meal with his cordlu companion.

The following scene describes Basha attitude to his companion and most uncivilized creatures.

Basha and Sheerat, his crodlu companion were walking into the local market when a noble entourage stopped them.
A silk veil parted from the carriage and a young woman asked, “How much for the crodlu? Can you ride him?”
Not quite understanding the first question, Basha replied in thick accent, “Sheerat does not like to be ridden much.”
The woman would not be deterred, “Well, does he do tricks?”
“Tricks?”
“Yes, you know, fetch stuff for you…”
“Oh no, I get my own stuff.”
The noble was becoming agitated, “Well, he doesn’t do tricks, you can’t ride him, then what’s he good for?”
The halfling was also becoming impatient, “He doesn’t ask stupid questions.”

NOTE: That’s all I got for him now but I’m sure he’ll take on a more defined personality as I start playing him.

I've put together his stats in here along with a portrait.

Should I be selected to play, I'll of course make a proper alias for him. I stated his animal companion (crodlu) as a velociraptor until you came up with something.

Let me know if you have any questions at this time.

Game on!

Some great concept art for potential characters, or to just get a better sense of the look of Athas and the Dark Sun campaign setting can be found here.

Thanks.

Have you seen Gladiator? I know it's Roman but there's a scene at the first gladiator arena (not the in the Rome but somewhere in Africa if I remember correctly) that just screamed 'Dark Sun' to me.

I remember thinking that if a mul and thri-kreen were featured in the first fight, it would not surprise me one bit.

Yeah most of Brom's art is awesome. This is what Grom looks like. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X0-L8Jm82jk/UiYtGH2tWrI/AAAAAAAABwg/4zfYOhJqzqM/s 1600/2.gif

Brom is my favorite fantasy artist. It's his works that breathed life into the setting and originally drew me to Dark Sun. His use of color was something I had never seen before as a child and it blew me away.

Just a heads up, my guy is basically done but I can't post him until late tomorrow or the next day. I'm moving and things are a bit delayed from where I expected.

Not that's any of my business but where is your guy?

I like to start looking at potential party composition, even though I haven't been picked yet! :)

Anyway, I enjoy reading about character fluff, especially those that are from Athas.

Good luck everyone!

I haven't made an alias yet. Got some time to post. At a hotel.

I like "Glanvar" though. Actually, Granvar. Sounds better.

Character sheet.

Need gear and a couple of Customizations is all.

Story-wise it's pretty simple. His human mother was raped by a dwarf raider of some kind, and he was abandoned as a child after his mother broke down from all the scorn heaped on her for keeping the "thing". Trapped and raised as a gladiator, killed his first man as a child (in a fight to the death where he was sent in unarmed against an armed gladiator), which is when he first manifested his Metaforging abilities.

Eventually he won (or took) his freedom, and where he goes from there kinda depends on the starting point of the campaign.

Short and sweet, but enough room for interesting drama (perhaps people sent to take him back to the arena, frex), and fits the character's abilities and the Mul's baked in fluff nicely.

I left out exact details like which city since I'm still not very familiar with the setting in detail so I'm not sure what's the best fit.

Hmm...

Considering the campaign is headed for Urik, I think that it'd be a REALLY bad idea to have Granvar come from there. Templars possibly being on the lookout for him, and all that (well, if he's an escaped slave instead of a freed one. Otherwise, never mind).

I'm not entirely convinced having him come from Gulg (forested city-state) would make a lot of sense, but then again, it could work...

If I may, I'd suggest Draj as a place for your character to be from. I mean, have you SEEN their warrior culture? Modelled after the Aztecs. Human sacrifice to Tectuktitlay and everything.

Yes, I am a total Dark Sun nerd. How'd you know? ;)

Ooh. I've always thought Aztec culture was cool. That sounds awesome.

If the escaped slave bit is troublesome, freed works for me. I'd need a good reason that explains why I'm still only level 2 though. Hm.

When I get the chance I'll look at Draj closer.

Nerdy infatuation with Dark Sun is welcome and encouraged!

So... any word from the GM?

Just hoping this isn't his usual posting frequency. Come on GM, Athas and almost certain death awaits!

GM, if you're still up for this (I hope so, Darksun is awesome), could you please give us an idea of how frequently you can post? All the 1/day games take an age.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

1/day games are quite common for PbP. Of course 3/day is a bit more interesting, but difficult to keep up for many people often.
Not speaking of even faster games. Having a job/family/something else to do prevents that for many people. Except if you´re a student^^

Was the recruitment for this campaign already decided?

As far as I know the GM hasn't posted since Wednesday, but most of us seem to be willing to wait it out. I'm sure he'll pop back up soon.

Not to take people away from this potential game but I opened up an 'interest thread' here.

So, ehh, wut hoppen?
