Kadrian is fixed. I went with Ease of Faith, due to the swashbuckler's acceptance of Akuleh in a town with a history with shaonti. Both background skills are fully marked.

Just want to point out that you don't necessarily have to spend the two background skill points from each level on the same two skills. Maybe that's entirely what you wanted to do, but if you want to become a jack of all trades at crafting (as one example), you could put the two points into different craft skills at every level if you wanted.

Considering the busy season, I’m happy to wait until New Year before we think about pushing on and/or recruiting.

If Kat is still out of contact then I have figured out a way to put her PC out of action which will allow for reintroduction if possible and/or tie in to a plot point later and make her disappearance/demise meaningful.

I’m thinking of recruiting an extra player to keep your party up. Thoughts?

I think we should definitely recruit another PC if Kat will be on the sideline. Going up to 5 from there if she returns should be fine, but playing down at 3 PCs will likely ruin our action economy.

Agreed! I'm down for bringing in some new blood, especially if we can twist somebody's arm into being either a ranged combatant or party buff specialist. Between Kadrian, Rak, and (presuming Kat's return) Algon, we're pretty well of in melee, and Kat brings some arcane magic to the table. Akuleh tends to ride the line between those two.

I can't find a non-cheesy way to bring a new PC in so have a different plan.

rorek55 will play Shalelu (spoiler, she's meant to just guide you through the woods and then split) and she will accompany you to Thistletop.

After you get back to Sandpoint we will work out where rorek55's character choice goes from there.

Will get her stats filled out and image chosen once I get free for the night.

Also. If the group actually wants a ranged combatant, I have a bolt ace I wrote up for RotRL awhile back but things happened and didn't get any further than repeling the gobo's first attack.

Thanks for the help updated the loot table, GM! I hopped in there too to check on things and did some work with you to get it up to date.

If no one objects, I'd like to sell the following items:

Composite shortbow
Masterwork flute
Silver Earrings
tiny +1 cold iron returning dagger
rare book of lore on Lamashtu
bottle of wine
Masterwork handaxe

There's also the +1 longsword, which I'm not sure is useful to any of our builds, but if someone wants it, it's definitely valuable. I definitely think we should hold on to the silver dagger for the possibility of overcoming something's DR.

Apparently those pouches of silver and gold dust belong to the glassworks and should be returned there. Anybody have objections to that? I guess those would go to Ameiko since that was her father's factory and he's dead now, right?

Looking at that loot value and thinking about going to the magic-mart makes me feel a bit queasy: just not meeting my sense of verisimilitude.

Two alternatives suggest themselves.
One is automatic bonus progression from Pathfinder Unchained. It basically takes cloaks of resistance, rings of protection and +x bonuses to armour and weapons out of the game. It still allows for all other magic items, including armour and weapons with special effects.
The other is for me to tweak magic items to make what you find more interesting and appropriate to your characters than that in the AP and leave out the magic-mart in favour of more in-game serendipity.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, you can meet everyone at the North Gate in the morning.

That said, if Shalelu wants to do anything in Sandpoint beforehand then I am happy to do some solo RP in the gameplay thread.

I like the ABP system as well. It allows us to determine what weapons/armor we will prioritize ourselves, and doesn’t force a bunch of changes to the AP so the loot drops are always tailored to us. I think that keeps it a bit more immersive.

I'm good with ABP. I wanted to try it out in a home game a few years back, but my players resisted. It seems like good sense, and I'd love to see it in action.

ABP is fine with me, though it does effect saving up for specfic items snd the like, (like someone saving up for a +4 belt or something) but wouldn't be a big deal to me, I prefer ABP most of the time though you would still be required to tweak magic item drops of armor/weaponry, even if its a simple "remove the +x bonus from it" instead of a "replace +x bonus."

I may have missed this in the ABP rules page linked, but does the bonus to hit from the masterwork quality still exist in this system, or does that go away as well?

I forgot that Rak had that Ring of Protection; I never incorporated it into his stats in fact. So, reviewing the Loot table, Rak is really out of wack for WBL, either in ABP or out. I propose we throw his ring of ferocious action back into the pool for someone else or to sell. That should even him out for 3rd level in a non-ABP format.

It looks like we might all need some equipment adjustment if we go the ABP route?

Okay, so I've been down the ABP rabbit hole a bit but I think I have my head around it.

For magic weapon and armour costs I will use the blog-post calculations but I will not charge money when you gain more power (this might make weapons brought early on theoretically give more bang for the buck, but then you won't have many bucks...

I'm also going to rule that the secondary weapon bonus can be applied to as many weapons as you like.

Finally, I will instigate the rule that you can only apply ABP weapon bonuses to masterwork weapons.

Now, someone decide what you're selling, how much you owe the shop and what you're buying and we'll get on with this adventure!

Ususally, I'd be spending some of this money on a cloak of resistance +1, but that's no longer necessary. So what magic or otherwise useful items should we buy instead?

"The truth is, Akuleh, when you ask me about my family my mind just clouds up." The dwarf looks up at the tall warrior, sheepishly, his eyes constantly flicking to the sheen of sweat that glistens on the Shoanti's well-defined muscles. "When I'm talking to you... I just can't seem to think of anything but you...."

His voice trails away as his eyes drop to his own feet, hoping for some kind of confirmation, but equally fearing a rebuke.

Akuleh stops walking a pace or two after the dwarf as he realizes what Rak has just said. For a moment, with his back facing Rak, Akuleh's lip quivers and his eyes glisten with the start of tears. But he closes his eyes and breathes a quiet sigh.

Turning to face Rak, Akuleh lays a hand on the dwarf's strong, firm shoulder. He feels the heat of his rough dwarven skin and wonders at all the scars and the tales behind them that must be beneath his jerkin. "I'm sorry, Rak. I didn't mean to-- I just want--," Akuleh trails off and looks down at his own feet for a moment before moving his hand to the dwarf's forearm and giving it a squeeze. "I'm glad we're facing these threats together." The he releases the dwarf's arm, turns, and walks on toward the inn.

Meta-gaming, we all know that Kat/Izbela is out of the game but that I want to be able to bring her back if she reappears on the boards.

Also, Izbela is one person and the whole town is threatened by the goblins' plans.

I really want you to be true to your characters and have some cool RP fun with this. At some point Kadrian may have to give up on looking for Izbela, which presents some great RP possibilities.

You should know from the start, as players, that this situation must end, at some point, with the group heading for Thistletop without Izbela.

Kadrian, two things about damage:
1. Yours is the only swashbuckler I have seen who does not take the unofficial feat tax and have Fencing Grace (or a similar option, slashing grace) for dex-to-damage with your rapier. At level 4 (assuming you put the bonus skill point in dex) you would get +3 to damage for every attack.
2. Precise Strike: you still have panache points, so all of your attacks add your level to damage. That’s +3 to every attack (+6 if you spend a point, and you have plenty of panache).

So, you didn’t do four points of damage, you did ten! And almost any other swashbuckler would have done between 16 and 20.
