Yeah, everyone except a couple of the scholars is going to be hit.

Hyenas: 4d20 ⇒ (15, 18, 6, 14) = 53
Scholars: 6d20 ⇒ (4, 2, 19, 14, 8, 3) = 50

Yolanda's pulse of destructive energy washes over the interior of the Kiss, sapping the strength of demonic canines and patrons alike. Morris silently scoops up the unconscious Teveran.

The hyenas continue their bloody rampage.

In their haste, another patron falls to the hyena's jaws.

A member of the Magnimar city guard in full uniform bursts through the door of the Nereid's Kiss, followed by two civilians.

Long black hair flows out the back of his guard's helmet and an oiled beard obscures his jaw.

Sharing a hard look with the other two, he nods his head in the direction of the violet-skinned woman before stepping forward.

Waving his rapier in the air, he shouts to be hear above the chaos, "Non-combatants to me! Make for the door, quickly now!"

Looking upon the carnage, he reaches down with and touches the silver flask tucked into his belt, "Little of your luck would be useful, you drunken bastard."

Shifting forward, he lunges at the nearest hound.

When the dutiful porter kneels over to scoop up Stoll, the hyena lunges and tears something free. Teveran slumps back to the ground as Morris collapses into a pile of loose bones and empty clothing.

RIP Morris. =(

While she was not dressed like a guard, there was a certain sense of order about the half-elf that came in behind the guard, surprised by the sights but not so surprised as to be stunned. Short-cut hair the dirty color of an golden alloy sticks close to her head as her eyes widen and she takes in the tableau enough to react. The leather armor on her person was well-worn without being shoddy, and her eyes had that look of someone who was focused to exclusion of almost everything else.

Reflexively, she had taken a step to the side to clear the doorway without putting herself in the corner, jaw set with a focused expression. The bow was almost as tall as she was, and still the arrows found the string and flew with no hesitation. The only downside was that one of the individuals rushing for the door had no respect for personal space in their haste, so not interfering with her shot was something that they did not heed. Clipping her bow fouled her shot, and it was all she could do to direct it upward safely.

#1772 is sadly unable to walk trough walls and thus cannot flee any further, and would like to evoke the "If unable to flee, it may fight." line from the frightened condition.

You're not quite utterly trapped yet. For now you'll cower. Once the hyena blocking the way is down you'll be free to flee further. Of course the duration will likely have lapsed before that comes up. =)

Sheet | Map | Hp 7/10 | AC 16/14/13 | Fort +4 Ref +3 Will +2 | Per +1, Darkvision, Deathwatch | Init +3

Cause Fear inflicts the Frightened condition - only Panicked actually makes one cover. If one is Frightened and unable to flee by simply running away - one is allowed to act and make a way. Eg, killing hyenas : )

Alternatively, I could have you try to flee past the hyena. I wouldn't consider risking an AoO to be making you 'Unable to Escape'. I figured letting you stay put and not suck up an AoO was the kinder route. =P

Edit: You could also break a window to escape but that'd put you further from the action when the fear wears off. Would you prefer that?

@Feral You know what, the windows hadn't occurred to me! #1772 will take that route. Is hunching down right outside okay? She would be out of sight from the scary witch and she would still be on the map : ) Otherwise I could settle for a Warmachine fallback :D

Also, could either you or Choon put a link to the map in the campaign header (if Tobaris transferred GM-ship to either of you that is ...)

Will vs Channel: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 - 2 = 17

#1772s eyes darter back and fourth across the room. A moment ago her heightened fortification (in the shape of a chair) had seemed perfectly safe. But now the illusion was shattered - she knew the truth! The wicked witch had presented her unholy icon, a mockery of everything sane and just. Unearthly waves of filth had radiated everywhere. They clinged and stung like a forgotten memory of fire, risen from the dark depths of memory - *Phasmara save me ...!* was silently on her lips.

There! Salvation was at hand! Just a thin sheet of glass between her and freedom. Swiftly and decisively she steped up. A quick kick shattered the fragile barrier before her armoured boot. After another sweep to remove the jagged edges #1772 followed trough. Moments later she slammed down on the cobblestone outside - safe, for now. With dread she looked up to the broken window above her, fearing the wicked witch to follow.

But the sanctuary seemed to hold. No wicked witch, no more waves of decay. Swallowing hard she tried to shake the unnatural horror but to no avail. She slammed her fist into the ground in fury - Why? Why couldn't I my ground ... But she knew the answer to that too. Dark magics. Dark sorcery... If not free from terror, being outside - away from the witch - at least let her focus some parts of her mind. If I only could stand up... Sobbing quietly, she wrapped her hands around her knees and tried to think of some way to help her companions inside.

Full-round action to get outside. Thinking of using Ghost Sound next round (last round of fear), would that be okay? Was thinking churchbells ringing in alarm : )

Edit: Put a link in my own status bar. Atleast I can easily find it now ^^

I sent the email request for ownership transfer to the Paizo webmaster last week. We’ll get the map and a few other items linked to this thread as soon as it goes through. In the meantime I’ll try to link the map in my DM posts on occasion.

No Ghost Sound. You’re allowed to use spells to facilitate your escape. Ghost Sound isn’t necessary for your escape at this time.

In the rushes of fleeing patrons, two of the newcomers struggle to effectively attack the hyena guarding the entrance. The man in the clean coat has more luck, severing the beast’s spine neatly and sending it back to whatever foul place it came from.

The Tears are up. This is Freiya’s last turn of fleeing.

what combat round are we in?

Sheet | Map | Hp 7/10 | AC 16/14/13 | Fort +4 Ref +3 Will +2 | Per +1, Darkvision, Deathwatch | Init +3

CRB, p563:
Fear
Spells, magic items, and certain monsters can affect characters with fear. In most cases, the character makes a Will saving throw to resist this effect, and a failed roll means that the character is shaken, frightened, or panicked.

Shaken: Characters who are shaken take a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.

Frightened: Characters who are frightened are shaken, and in addition they flee from the source of their fear as quickly as they can. They can choose the paths of their flight. Other than that stipulation, once they are out of sight (or hearing) of the source of their fear, they can act as they want. If the duration of their fear continues, however, characters can be forced to flee if the source of their fear presents itself again. Characters unable to flee can fight (though they are still shaken).

Panicked: Characters who are panicked are shaken, and they run away from the source of their fear as quickly as they can, dropping whatever they are holding. Other than running away from the source, their paths are random. They flee from all other dangers that confront them rather than facing those dangers. Once they are out of sight (or hearing) of any source of danger, they can act as they want. Panicked characters cower if they are prevented from fleeing.

Becoming Even More Fearful: Fear effects are cumulative. A shaken character who is made shaken again becomes frightened, and a shaken character who is made frightened becomes panicked instead. A frightened character who is made shaken or frightened becomes panicked instead.

Is Yll yelling louder then the sound of battle and chaos inside : )? If so, I guess I'll just have to wait ...

@#0004 It is round three I believe.

Edit: Unless I am mistaken, #1772 was feared in round 2 (ran to a chair), feared round 3 (jumped outside) and will still be feared round 4 (next round) for a total of 3 rounds in fear. Unless my math is off ...?

Yes, you can still hear her entitled yells over the combat. Please don't quote rules at me. You will lose. =P

Challenge considered:
You can fail any test you want, including a perception test to hear someone yelling you know :P. (I'll sit tight.)

You Asked For it:
No, you'll continue fleeing. I was trying to do you a favor and let you hang out inside the Kiss until the spell lapsed. You tried to make a big deal about not being able to flee so I let you flee.

Per the quote you linked:

Characters who are frightened are shaken, and in addition they flee from the source of their fear as quickly as they can. They can choose the paths of their flight.

You can still hear Lady Yll. You must continue fleeing at top speed.

Noro was at the bottom of the round so I essentially delayed her to the top of the following round so she could act when the other Tears did in order to keep things streamlined. Yes, this is essentially Noro’s second action. Feel free to mock Pelgrev as necessary. =)

True, but if I missed a round, then I may be able to get another stike in and possibly survive.

ninja's by DM I understand now...

Noro is wounded, but not out yet. she tries to manuever herself strategiccally considering the enemies around her. but her situation looks dire, new faces seem helpful but thier true intentions are still unclear.

finally out of frustration she steps away from the burning mass. and comes down hard on the hyena's head.

she gets angry (rage round 1) 5' step away from the fire elemental I cannot open the map right now so if she gets flank where she is at then she will attack first then move otherwise she will move first.

I realize now why your response was so snappy, but ... it is hard enough to get jest across the internet - tenfold harder if people don't read entire sentences! : )

PS - I like to point out errors in rules and such if I can, since the Lawful aspect of me wants things done propper. However, I realize this might tick off some. Would you (Feral) prefer if I stayed silent ?

PS2 - Especially if said ruling might adversely affect my companions ...

Oh, and Will save.

No Can Haz:
I don’t mind folks pointing out stuff I missed/forgot (like the AoO that killed Morris or Zayid’s positioning). I don’t like it when I feel like folks are trying to eke out an advantage by being obtuse. That might not have been the case here, but that’s the perception I got. When I take an easy stance with mechanics it’s always to the advantage of the players, so let me! My intention early on was to let Freiya just sit out for three rounds and avoid running overly far or sucking up AoOs. Now she’s going to flee for her third round meaning she won’t be back in the action until turn five.

Is Noro provoking from the elemental? Which hyena is she attacking?

Sheet | Map | Hp 7/10 | AC 16/14/13 | Fort +4 Ref +3 Will +2 | Per +1, Darkvision, Deathwatch | Init +3

Now, if it is okay, I'd like to make my case - but this time including what & why I'm trying to achieve.

Spoiler:

1) standing perfectly still, while perhaps mechanically superior does seem odd from both a rp perspective and from the rules.

2) therefore, since #1772 was not fleeing, I looked into other ways to help my party while still obeying the spirit (and letter) of the Cause Fear. Thus the barrage of questions and suggestions.

3) since Freia still retains the power to choose where she will run, she would always go for the window before a crowd of strangers - preferably she would make her way out there.

4) having to run further away is a sore spot, since that would further stop her from helping out. Especially since hiding here seems to follow the spirit of the spell. If there is a blood price to be paid, let Freia/me pay it, and not the others. Have her cut herself on the glass making her way out or landing, or something similar.

Sorry for dragging this up all the time.

@Order of actions: Pelgrev is down, probably not going to do anything but try to stabilize

If you'd like we can retcon and stick with my first suggestion. Freia sits still inside and waits out the fear.

Ariana's sleep goes off and she drops it near Yolanda and the hound. It will end up targeting 4 HD worth of creatures, starting with the smallest. It can potentially affect: blue hyena, yolanda, scholar, fire elemental. If getting a choice in HD affects (assuming both the Hyena and elemental both have 2 HD, she prefers if it affects the hyena). DC 16

"Stupefy!" The elf finishes her chant and drops her spell amidst the scrambling enemies.

Addressing the guard and the other strangers, Ari smiles. "I don't know who you are, but thank you for the assistance! We are from the Order, a law enforcement agency in the city. We appreciate the help. Try to keep the citizens safe, if you will. And you!" Ari calls to the fleeing scholars.

"Form a damned bucket brigade! This inn may catch on fire and when we are finished in here, I want to see a bloody group out there with buckets!"

While talking, Ari will moves behind Noro and cast Grease on the hounds and elemental near Pelgrev. "Impedemente!" A thick coating of black, bubbling liquid spills across two hyenas (pink, green), an unconscious barbarian (Pelgrev), and a fire elemental. "Use that spear, Zayid! That should hopefully tie them up a little bit!"

Spoiler:

I swear, last Harry Potter reference...maybe. Note: I'm a little confused, I am casting this under the assumption that Pelgrev is currently unconscious? I request the chance to change actions if this is not the case. Grease DC 16.

Ariana, you cannot cast grease this turn as you started a full round spell last turn after moving. Am I correct in assuming you'd rather finish your sleep over casting grease?

Yes, you're free to use your prescience roll before your roll for something. In this case, using it for an acrobatics check is exactly how it works.
